BACKGROUND: Skeletal muscle development and fat deposition have important effects on meat quality. The study of regulating skeletal muscle development and fat deposition is of great significance in improving the quality of carcass and meat. In the present study, whole transcriptome sequencing (including RNA-Seq and miRNA-Seq) was performed on the longissimus dorsi muscle (LDM) of Jinfen White pigs at 1, 90, and 180 days of age. RESULTS: The results showed that a total of 245 differentially expressed miRNAs were screened in any two comparisons, which may be involved in the regulation of myogenesis. Among them, compared with 1-day-old group, miR-22-5p was significantly up-regulated in 90-day-old group and 180-day-old group. Functional studies demonstrated that miR-22-5p inhibited the proliferation and differentiation of porcine skeletal muscle satellite cells (PSCs). Pearson correlation coefficient analysis showed that long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) LOC106505926 and CXXC5 gene had strong negative correlations with miR-22-5p. The LOC106505926 and CXXC5 were proven to promote the proliferation and differentiation of PSCs, as opposed to miR-22-5p. In terms of mechanism, LOC106505926 functions as a molecular sponge of miR-22-5p to modulate the expression of CXXC5, thereby inhibits the differentiation of PSCs. In addition, LOC106505926 regulates the differentiation of porcine preadipocytes through direct binding with FASN. CONCLUSIONS: Collectively, our results highlight the multifaceted regulatory role of LOC106505926 in controlling skeletal muscle and adipose tissue development in pigs and provide new targets for improving the quality of livestock products by regulating skeletal muscle development and fat deposition.

The development of skeletal muscle in pigs might determine the quality of pork. In recent years, long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) have been found to play an important role in skeletal muscle growth and development. In this study, we investigated the whole transcriptome of the longissimus dorsi muscle (LDM) of Jinfen White pigs at three developmental stages (1, 90, and 180 days) and performed a comprehensive analysis of lncRNAs, mRNAs, and micro-RNAs (miRNAs), aiming to find the key regulators and interaction networks in Jinfen White pigs. A total of 2638 differentially expressed mRNAs (DE mRNAs) and 982 differentially expressed lncRNAs (DE lncRNAs) were identified. Compared with JFW_1d, there were 497 up-regulated and 698 down-regulated DE mRNAs and 212 up-regulated and 286 down-regulated DE lncRNAs in JFW_90d, respectively. In JFW_180d, there were 613 up-regulated and 895 down-regulated DE mRNAs and 184 up-regulated and 131 down-regulated DE lncRNAs compared with JFW_1d. There were 615 up-regulated and 477 down-regulated DE mRNAs and 254 up-regulated and 355 down-regulated DE lncRNAs in JFW_180d compared with JFW_90d. Compared with mRNA, lncRNA has fewer exons, fewer ORFs, and a shorter length. We performed GO and KEGG pathway functional enrichment analysis for DE mRNAs and the potential target genes of DE lncRNAs. As a result, several pathways are involved in muscle growth and development, such as the PI3K-Akt, MAPK, hedgehog, and hippo signaling pathways. These are among the pathways through which mRNA and lncRNAs function. As part of this study, bioinformatic screening was used to identify miRNAs and DE lncRNAs that could act as ceRNAs. Finally, we constructed an lncRNA-miRNA-mRNA regulation network containing 26 mRNAs, 7 miRNAs, and 17 lncRNAs; qRT-PCR was used to verify the key genes in these networks. Among these, XLOC_022984/miR-127/ENAH and XLOC_016847/miR-486/NRF1 may function as key ceRNA networks. In this study, we obtained transcriptomic profiles from the LDM of Jinfen White pigs at three developmental stages and screened out lncRNA-miRNA-mRNA regulatory networks that may provide crucial information for the further exploration of the molecular mechanisms during skeletal muscle development.

BACKGROUND: The outcome of extramedullary infiltration (EMI) in pediatric acute myeloid leukemia (AML) is controversial, and little is known about the implications of stem cell transplantation (SCT) and gemtuzumab ozogamicin (GO) treatment on patients with EMI. METHODS: We retrieved the clinical data of 713 pediatric patients with AML from the Therapeutically Applicable Research to Generate Effective Treatments (TARGET) dataset, and analyzed the clinical and prognostic characteristics of patients with EMI at diagnosis and relapse. RESULTS: A total of 123 patients were identified to have EMI at diagnosis and 64 presented with EMI at relapse. The presence of EMI was associated with age ≤2 years, M5 morphology, abnormal karyotype, and KMT2A rearrangements. Hyperleukocytosis and complex karyotype were more prevalent in patients with EMI at relapse. Additionally, patients with EMI at diagnosis had a reduced incidence of FLT3 ITD-/NPM1+, whereas those with EMI at relapse displayed a lower frequency of FLT3 ITD+. Patients with EMI at diagnosis exhibited a lower complete remission (CR) rate at the end of Induction Course 1 and higher relapse incidence. Importantly, EMI at diagnosis independently predicted both shorter event-free survival (EFS) and overall survival (OS). Regarding relapse patients, the occurrence of EMI at relapse showed no impact on OS. However, relapse patients with myeloid sarcoma (MS)/no central nervous system (CNS) exhibited poorer OS compared to those with CNS/no MS. Furthermore, regarding patients with EMI at diagnosis, SCT failed to improve the survival, whereas GO treatment potentially enhanced OS. CONCLUSION: EMI at diagnosis is an independent adverse prognostic risk factor for pediatric AML, and GO treatment potentially improves survival for patients with EMI at diagnosis.

Tobacco bacterial wilt is a highly destructive soilborne disease caused by the Ralstonia solanacearum species complex, exhibiting a significant risk to global flue-cured tobacco cultivation and resulting in substantial economic loss. In this study, 77 isolates were collected from three prominent flue-cured tobacco cultivation areas in Fujian, China (Nanping, Sanming, and Longyan), in 2021 and 2022. The isolated strains were classified through phylotype-specific multiplex polymerase chain reaction (Pmx-PCR) and physiological tests. The analysis showed that all the strains were associated with phylotype I, race 1, and biovar III. Subsequent phylogenetic analysis using partial egl gene sequences classified the 77 isolates into 5 distinct sequevars: 13, 15, 16, 17, and 34. Notably, a remarkable predominance of sequevar 15 was observed in Fujian Province, while sequevar 16 was first reported on tobacco in China, which was identified in other plants, expanding the understanding of its host range and distribution in the country. In addition, a Streptomyces strain extracted from the rhizosphere soil of tobacco was found to inhibit the growth of multiple sequevars of tobacco R. solanacearum, indicating its broad-spectrum antagonistic properties. Furthermore, pot experiments showed that the strain St35 effectively controlled tobacco bacterial wilt. The isolate St35 was conclusively identified as Streptomyces gancidicus according to the morphological and genetic features. In summary, the present study demonstrated the genetic diversity and distribution of tobacco R. solanacearum strains in the Fujian province of China, as well as the identification of a candidate biological control agent for the management of tobacco bacterial wilt.

Periodontitis is a chronic inflammatory destructive disease occurring in periodontal supporting tissues. Atherosclerosis(AS) is one of the most common cardiovascular diseases. Periodontitis can promote the development and progression of AS. Macrophage polarization is closely related to the development and progression of the above two diseases, respectively. The purpose of this animal study was to evaluate the effect of periodontitis on aortic lesions in atherosclerotic mice and the role of macrophage polarization in this process. 45 ApoE-/-male mice were randomly divided into three groups: control (NC), atherosclerosis (AS), and atherosclerosis with periodontitis (AS + PD). Micro CT, serological testing and pathological testing(hematoxylin-eosin staining, oil red O staining and Masson staining) were used for Evaluate the modeling situation. Immunohistochemistry(IHC) and immunofluorescence(IF) were performed to evaluate macrophage content and macrophage polarization in plaques. Cytokines associated with macrophage polarization were analyzed using quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction(qRT-PCR) and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay(Elisa). The expression of macrophages in plaques was sequentially elevated in the NC, AS, and AS + PD groups(P < 0.001). The expression of M1 and M1-related cytokines showed the same trend(P < 0.05). The expression of M2 and M2-related cytokines showed the opposite trend(P < 0.05). The rate of M1/M2 showed that AS + PD > AS > NC. Our preliminary data support that experimental periodontitis can increase the content of macrophage in aortic plaques to exacerbate AS. Meanwhile, experimental periodontitis can increase M1 macrophages, and decrease M2 macrophages, increasing M1/M2 in the plaque.

PURPOSE: To verify the effect and mechanism of baicalein in the treatment of periodontitis through network pharmacology, molecular docking and in vitro experiments. METHODS: Firstly, multiple databases were used to predict targets of baicalein and periodontitis. And the screened key target genes of baicalein for treating periodontitis were subjected to GO and KEGG analysis; then these targets were analyzed by molecular docking techniques. In vitro experiments including CCK-8, RT-qPCR, ELISA and Immunofluorescence were conducted to validate the efficacy of baicalein in treating periodontitis. RESULTS: Seventeen key targets were screened from the databases, GO and KEGG analysis of these targets revealed that baicalein may exert therapeutic effects through regulating TNF, PI3K-Akt, HIF-1 and other signaling pathways. Molecular docking analysis showed that baicalein has good binding potential to several targets. In vitro cellular assays showed that baicalein inhibited the expression of TNF-α, MMP-9, IL-6 and MCP1 in P.g-LPS-induced macrophages at both the mRNA and protein level. And the immunofluorescence intensity of iNOS, a marker of M1 type macrophages, which mainly secretes inflammatory factors, was significantly reduced. CONCLUSION: Baicalein has the characteristics and advantages of "multicomponent, multitarget, and multipathway" in the treatment of periodontitis. In vitro cellular assays further confirmed the inhibitory effect of baicalein on the secretion of inflammatory factors of macrophages in periodontitis models, providing a theoretical basis for further study of the material basis and molecular mechanism of baicalein in the treatment of periodontal diseases.

BACKGROUND: As a diverse and abundant class of endogenous RNAs, circular RNAs (circRNAs) participate in various biological processes including cell proliferation and apoptosis. Nevertheless, few researchers have investigated the role of circRNAs in muscle development in cultivated pigs. RESULTS: In this study, we used RNA-seq to construct circRNA expression profiles in skeletal muscle of Jinfen White pigs at the age of 1, 90, and 180 days. Among the 16,990 identified circRNAs, 584 circRNAs were differentially expressed. Moreover, the enrichment analysis of DE circRNA host genes showed that they were mainly involved in muscle contraction, muscle organ development and muscle system processes, as well as AMPK and cAMP-related signal pathways. We also constructed a circRNA-miRNA-mRNA co-expression network to find key circRNAs which many involved in the regulation of porcine skeletal muscle development through the competitive endogenous RNA (ceRNA) mechanism. It is noteworthy that circ_0018595/miR-1343/PGM1 axis may play a regulatory role in the development of porcine skeletal muscle. CONCLUSIONS: This study identified the circRNAs and present the circRNA expression profile in the development of pigs, revealed that DE circRNA host genes participate in different cell fates and enriched the porcine ceRNA network. Thus, this work will become a valuable resource for further in-depth study of the regulatory mechanism of circRNA in the development of porcine skeletal muscle.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: Periodontitis is immune inflammatory disease, atherosclerosis (AS) and chronic kidney disease (CKD) are two common systemic diseases. Periodontitis promotes AS and CKD, and CKD interacts with AS. The objective of this animal study was to evaluate the changes of kidney when periodontitis and atherosclerosis exist separately and the degenerative effects of periodontitis on the kidney in atherosclerotic mice. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A total of 40 male Apoe-/- mice were randomly divided into four groups: control (NC), periodontitis (PD), AS and AS with PD (AS + PD). AS was induced by high-fat diet feeding, and PD was induced by injection of Porphyromonas gingivalis-Lipopolysaccharide (P.g-LPS) (endotoxin suspension) into the buccal side of mouse maxillary molars. The right maxilla of mice was scanned with micro-CT to evaluate alveolar bone loss; aortic tissue was stained with HE and Oil-Red O to evaluate arterial plaque formation; serum was collected to detect the changes of blood lipids and serum renal function parameters (blood urea nitrogen [BUN], serum creatinine [Scr]); renal histopathological changes were evaluated by HE staining (glomerular and tubular damage scores), PAS staining (glomerular Mesangial matrix index) and Masson staining (percentage of renal fibrosis area); qRT-PCR and ELISA were used to evaluate the expression of renal inflammatory cytokines (tumor necrosis factor-α, Interleukin-1ß, neutrophil surface marker Ly6G). RESULTS: The amount of alveolar bone loss: PD group was significantly higher than NC group (p < .05); AS + PD group was higher than PD group, the difference was not statistically significant. Atherosclerotic plaque formation and serum lipid changes: AS group were significantly worse than NC group (p < .05), and AS + PD group were worse than AS group. The results of the corresponding qualitative and quantitative analyses of kidney tissue in experimental animals gradually deteriorated in the NC group, PD group, AS group and AS + PD group and worsened sequentially. Renal function parameters: the content of BUN in AS group was higher than that in PD group, the difference was not statistically significant; Scr in AS group was significantly higher than that in PD group (p < .05); the contents of BUN and Scr in AS + PD group were higher than those in AS group, the difference was not statistically significant. Glomerular and tubular damage scores: AS group were higher than PD group, the difference was not statistically significant; AS + PD group were significantly higher than AS group (p < .001). The ratio of glomerular mesangial matrix to glomerular area and the percentage of renal fibrosis area: AS group were significantly higher than PD group (p < .001), and AS + PD group were significantly higher than AS group (p < .001). Expression of inflammatory cytokines: AS group was higher than PD group, the difference was not statistically significant; AS + PD group was significantly higher than AS group (p < .05). CONCLUSION: Both PD and AS can aggravate the inflammatory stress of kidney tissue and cause the damage of kidney tissue, and the inflammatory increase and damage effect of AS is stronger; PD can promote kidney damage of atherosclerotic mice by aggravating the renal inflammation in atherosclerotic mice; renal function parameters were not completely synchronized with the changes of renal inflammation and histopathology in each group of mice; PD can promote AS, periodontal inflammation in mice with AS is more severe, and the special changes of blood lipids in mice with AS are closely related to the above results.

Macrophages play an important role in the pathogenesis of systemic lupus erythematosus-associated diffuse alveolar hemorrhage (DAH). The immunomodulation of macrophage responses might be a potential approach for the prevention and treatment of DAH. Erythropoietin (EPO) could regulate macrophage bioactivities by binding to the EPO receptor expressing on macrophages. This study assessed the effects of EPO on DAH protection using an immune-mediated DAH murine model with macrophages as the major contributor. A DAH murine model was established in female C57BL/6 mice by an i.p. injection of pristane. We found that EPO administration alleviates DAH by reducing pulmonary macrophages recruitment and promoting phenotype switch toward M2 macrophages in vivo. EPO drove macrophages to the anti-inflammatory phenotype in the primary murine bone marrow-derived macrophages and macrophages cell line RAW 264.7 with LPS, IFN-γ, and IL-4 in vitro. Moreover, EPO treatment increases the expression of EPOR and decreases the expression of miR-494-3p, resulting in increased phosphorylation of JAK2 and STAT3. In conclusion, EPO can be a potential therapeutic agent in DAH by reducing cell apoptosis and regulating macrophage polarization through the EPOR/JAK2/STAT3 axis. Further studies are also needed to validate the direct target of miR-494-3p in regulating JAK2/STAT3 signaling transduction.

Aim: Blastic plasmacytoid dendritic cell neoplasm is a rarely occurring hematologic malignancy with a dismal prognosis. Methods: We conducted a meta-analysis for a total of 1312 patients from 24 retrospective studies. Results: The complete remission (CR) rate of acute lymphoblastic leukemia-like induction chemotherapy was 82%, and the overall survival (OS) was 15.75 months; the CR rate of acute myeloid leukemia-like chemotherapy was 51%, and the OS was 7.18 months; and the CR rate of cyclophosphamide, doxorubicin, vincristine and prednisone-like chemotherapy was 50%, and the OS was 12.06 months. Conclusion: Acute lymphoblastic leukemia-like induction chemotherapy has the best CR rate and OS.

Fundamental understanding of ion migration inside perovskites is of vital importance for commercial advancements of photovoltaics. However, the mechanism for external ions incorporation and its effect on ion migration remains elusive. Herein, taking K+ and Cs+ co-incorporated mixed halide perovskites as a model, the impact of external ions on ion migration behavior has been interpreted via multiple dimensional characterization aspects. The space-effect on phase segregation inhibition has been revealed by the photoluminescence evolution and in situ dynamic cathodoluminescence behaviors. The plane-effect on current suppression along grain boundary has been evidenced via visualized surface current mapping, local current hysteresis, and time-resolved current decay. And the point-effect on activation energy incremental for individual ions has been also probed by cryogenic electronic quantification. All these results sufficiently demonstrate the passivated ion migration results in the eventually improved phase stability of perovskite, of which the origin lies in various ion migration energy barriers.

Pigs are susceptible to cold stress due to the absence of brown fat caused by the partial deletion of uncoupling protein 1 during their evolution. Some local pig breeds in China exhibit potential cold adaptability, but research has primarily focused on fat and intestinal tissues. Skeletal muscle plays a key role in adaptive thermogenesis in mammals, yet the molecular mechanism of cold adaptation in porcine skeletal muscle remains poorly understood. This study investigated the cold adaptability of two pig breeds, Mashen pigs (MS) and Large White pigs (LW), in a four-day cold (4 °C) or normal temperature (25 °C) environment. We recorded phenotypic changes and collected blood and longissimus dorsi muscle for transcriptome sequencing. Finally, the PRSS8 gene was randomly selected for functional exploration in porcine skeletal muscle satellite cells. A decrease in body temperature and body weight in both LW and MS pigs under cold stress, accompanied by increased shivering frequency and respiratory frequency, were observed. However, the MS pigs demonstrated stable physiological homeostasis, indicating a certain level of cold adaptability. The LW pigs primarily responded to cold stress by regulating their heat production and glycolipid energy metabolism. The MS pigs exhibited a distinct response to cold stress, involving the regulation of heat production, energy metabolism pathways, and robust mitochondrial activity, as well as a stronger immune response. Furthermore, the functional exploration of PRSS8 in porcine skeletal muscle satellite cells revealed that it affected cellular energy metabolism and thermogenesis by regulating ERK phosphorylation. These findings shed light on the diverse transcriptional responses of skeletal muscle in LW and MS pigs under cold stress, offering valuable insights into the molecular mechanisms underlying cold adaptation in pigs.

RESUMO

Peronophythora litchii is an oomycete pathogen that exclusively infects litchi, with infection stages affecting a broad range of tissues. In this study, we obtained a near chromosome-level genome assembly of P. litchii ZL2018 from China using Oxford Nanopore Technologies long-read sequencing and Illumina short-read sequencing. The genome assembly was 64.15 Mb in size and consisted of 81 contigs with an N50 of 1.43 Mb and a maximum length of 4.74 Mb. Excluding 34.67% of repeat sequences, 14,857 protein-coding genes were identified, among which 14,447 genes were annotated. We also predicted 306 candidate RxLR effectors in the assembly. Phytophthora colocasiae is a destructive oomycete pathogen of taro (Colocasia esculenta), which causes taro leaf blight. To date, only one highly fragmented Illumina short-read-based genome assembly is available for this species. To address this problem, we sequenced strain Lyd2019 from China using Oxford Nanopore Technologies long-read sequencing and Illumina short-read sequencing. We generated a 92.51-Mb genome assembly consisting of 105 contigs with an N50 of 1.70 Mb and a maximum length of 4.17 Mb. In the genome assembly, we identified 52.78% repeats and 18,322 protein-coding genes, of which 12,782 genes were annotated. We also identified 191 candidate RXLR effectors and 1 candidate crinkling and necrosis effector. The updated near-chromosome genome assembly and annotation resources will provide a better understanding of the infection mechanisms of P. colocasiae.

With the rapid development of modern information technology, the health care industry is entering a critical stage of intelligence. Faced with the growing health care big data, information security issues are becoming more and more prominent in the management of smart health care, especially the problem of patient privacy leakage is the most serious. Therefore, strengthening the information management of intelligent health care in the era of big data is an important part of the long-term sustainable development of hospitals. This paper first identified the key indicators affecting the privacy disclosure of big data in health management, and then established the risk access control model based on the fuzzy theory, which was used for the management of big data in intelligent medical treatment, and solves the problem of inaccurate experimental results due to the lack of real data when dealing with actual problems. Finally, the model is compared with the results calculated by the fuzzy tool set in Matlab. The results verify that the model is effective in assessing the current safety risks and predicting the range of different risk factors, and the prediction accuracy can reach more than 90%.

The matching of charge transport layer and photoactive layer is critical in solar energy conversion devices, especially for planar perovskite solar cells based on the SnO2 electron-transfer layer (ETL) owing to its unmatched photogenerated electron and hole extraction rates. Graphdiyne (GDY) with multi-roles has been incorporated to maximize the matching between SnO2 and perovskite regarding electron extraction rate optimization and interface engineering towards both perovskite crystallization process and subsequent photovoltaic service duration. The GDY doped SnO2 layer has fourfold improved electron mobility due to freshly formed C-O σ bond and more facilitated band alignment. The enhanced hydrophobicity inhibits heterogeneous perovskite nucleation, contributing to a high-quality film with diminished grain boundaries and lower defect density. Also, the interfacial passivation of Pb-I anti-site defects has been demonstrated via GDY introduction.

BACKGROUND: A number of Pyricularia species are known to infect different grass species. In the case of Pyricularia oryzae (syn. Magnaporthe oryzae), distinct populations are known to be adapted to a wide variety of grass hosts, including rice, wheat and many other grasses. The genome sizes of Pyricularia species are typical for filamentous ascomycete fungi [~ 40 Mbp for P. oryzae, and ~ 45 Mbp for P. grisea]. Genome plasticity, mediated in part by deletions promoted by recombination between repetitive elements [Genome Res 26:1091-1100, 2016, Nat Rev Microbiol 10:417-430,2012] and transposable elements [Annu Rev Phytopathol 55:483-503,2017] contributes to host adaptation. Therefore, comparisons of genome structure of individual species will provide insight into the evolution of host specificity. However, except for the P. oryzae subgroup, little is known about the gene content or genome organization of other Pyricularia species, such as those infecting Pennisetum grasses. RESULTS: Here, we report the genome sequence of P. penniseti strain P1609 isolated from a Pennisetum grass (JUJUNCAO) using PacBio SMRT sequencing technology. Phylogenomic analysis of 28 Magnaporthales species and 5 non-Magnaporthales species indicated that P1609 belongs to a Pyricularia subclade, which is genetically distant from P. oryzae. Comparative genomic analysis revealed that the pathogenicity-related gene repertoires had diverged between P1609 and the P. oryzae strain 70-15, including the known avirulence genes, other putative secreted proteins, as well as some other predicted Pathogen-Host Interaction (PHI) genes. Genomic sequence comparison also identified many genomic rearrangements relative to P. oryzae. CONCLUSION: Our results suggested that the genomic sequence of the P. penniseti P1609 could be a useful resource for the genetic study of the Pennisetum-infecting Pyricularia species and provide new insight into evolution of pathogen genomes during host adaptation.

Hematological malignancies (HM) are a heterogeneous group of life-threatening hematological diseases. The heterogeneity and clonal evolution of HM subpopulations are the main obstacles for precise diagnoses, risk stratification, and even targeted therapies. Standard bulk-sample genomic examinations average total mutations from multiple subpopulations and conceal the clonal diversity that may play a significant role in HM progression. Therefore, the development of novel methods that detect intra-tumor heterogeneity is critical for the discovery of novel potential therapeutic targets. The recently developed single cell sequencing (SCS) technologies can analyse genetic polymorphisms at a single cell level. SCS requires the precise isolation of single cells and amplification of their genetic material. It allows the analysis of genomic, transcriptomic, and epigenomic information in single cancer cells. SCS may also be able to monitor minimal residual disease (MRD) of HM by sequencing circulating tumor cells (CTCs) from peripheral blood. Functional heterogeneity and clonal evolution exist in acute leukemia, multiple myeloma (MM) and chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) subpopulations and have prognostic value. In this thesis, we provide an overview of SCS technologies in HM and discuss the heterogeneous genetic variation and clonal structure among subpopulations of HM. Furthermore, we aimed to shed light on the clinical applications of SCS technologies, including the development of new targeted therapies for drug-resistant or recurrent HM.

The Fall Armyworm, Spodoptera frugiperda (Lepidoptera, Noctuidae), is a serious migratory pest. After invading China in 2019, the species was established as a year-round breeding population in most of the southern provinces. The area of winter maize in this region has been increasing due to the huge demand of fresh maize consumption, which is potentially at risk from this invasive pest, although the growth and development of S. frugiperda in the region's changing climate is unclear, particularly with rising temperatures at night. Here, we used the highest daytime temperatures of 27 °C, 24 °C, 20 °C and decreased these by 2, 4 and 6 °C to reflect the range of nighttime temperatures indicative of winter conditions in a warming climate to evaluate the effect of increasing night temperatures on the growth and development of S. frugiperda. Results show that the survival of larvae and pupae significantly declined with daytime temperatures declining and the nighttime temperature range increasing. Significant developmental effects were observed across all daytime-nighttime temperature treatments, except for adults. Additionally, there were significant interaction effects for all stages, except the egg stage, and generation time. The development rate increased with the increasing daytime temperatures and nighttime temperatures, except for the intermediate treatments (Group II). The uniformity of pupation and emergence times were higher under high daytime temperatures and nighttime temperature treatments. Predictions of FAW development and warnings to local farmers need to be adjusted to take into account the more rapid development when nighttime temperatures increase in the warming climate. These results will support decision makers in developing long-term management strategies for FAW in southern China.

Introduction: X-linked agammaglobulinemia (XLA) is a humoral immunodeficiency disorder characterized by recurrent infections, severe hypogammaglobulinemia, and a deficiency of circulating B cells. While the hallmark clinical manifestations of XLA typically include the respiratory, dermatological, and gastrointestinal systems, renal involvement is infrequent. In this article, we report two cases of XLA with concurrent renal disease, supplemented with a review of documented cases. Case description: The two cases described involve twin brothers, both presenting with respiratory tract infections and renal manifestations. Subsequent genetic testing confirmed the diagnosis of XLA. The younger brother exhibited improvement following intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG) therapy and anti-infection treatment. Due to financial constraints, the older brother received only anti-infection and symptomatic treatments. Seven months after discharge, the older brother developed nephritis. However, he showed improvement following IVIG treatment. Conclusion: Immune profiling and genetic testing should be considered in male children with recurrent infections to facilitate the effective diagnosis of XLA. Regular monitoring is also imperative to detect and treat immune-mediated renal diseases in patients with XLA.
