RESUMO

OBJECTIVES: To evaluate its effect of an evidence-based nursing program for nasal irrigation after endoscopic sinus surgery in patients with chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS). METHODS: A total of 66 patients with CRS were randomly divided into two groups, for which the experimental group received evidence-based nasal irrigation nursing, and the control group received conventional nursing. Differences in Sino-Nasal Outcome Test-20 (SNOT-20), visual analogue scale (VAS), Lund-Mackay CT, Endoscopic Lund Kennedy Score (LKES) and overall efficacy were assessed between the two groups. RESULTS: 2, 4 and 12 weeks after the intervention, the scores of SNOT-20, VAS, Lund-Mackay CT and LKES in the two groups were significantly lower than those before the surgery (P < 0.05). Compared with the control group, the scores were significantly lower in the experimental group (P < 0.05). 12 weeks after the intervention, the overall effective rate of treatment in the experimental group was 90.62%, while the control group was 16.43%, but the difference was not statistically significant in treatment effect (P > 0.05). CONCLUSIONS: The implementation of nasal irrigation evidence-based nursing program for patients with CRS after endoscopic sinus surgery can promote postoperative nasal mucosal recovery, improve treatment efficiency, and help improve patient comfort, quality of life and other subjective feelings. RESUMO

SnO2has attracted extensive research attentions as a promising anode material for sodium-ion batteries (SIBs) due to its high theoretical capacity. However, its application is largely hindered by sluggish sodium ion diffusion and drastic volume change during the conversion reaction and alloying process. Herein, ultra-fine SnO2nanocrystals (3-5 nm) anchored on reduced graphene oxide (rGO) is demonstrated as a promising anode material for SIBs. Ultra-fine SnO2nanocrystals are uniformly grown on rGO sheets by a facile one-step hydrothermal process. Nano-scaled SnO2grains tolerate volume expansion and provide shortened diffusion pathway for sodium ions, and meanwhile rGO acts as an excellent conductive matrix, thus endowing the composite electrode with excellent electrochemical performance. More importantly, the ratio of SnO2to rGO in the composite is optimized. The optimized sample delivers an initial charge capacity of 518 mAh g-1at a current density of 50 mA g-1, and 504 mAh g-1after 300 cycles at a current density of 100 mA g-1. Furthermore, a capacity of 287 mAh g-1can be maintained after 1000 cycles at a current density of 1000 mA g-1.

RESUMO

Hard carbon is a promising anode material for sodium-ion batteries (SIBs) due to its abundance. However, it exhibits low reversible capacity and slow kinetics if inappropriate microstructural features are developed during synthesis. Herein, N/S co-doped phenolic resin-based hard carbon microspheres are prepared by a scalable strategy, and the electrochemical performance is assessed both in half cells and full cells. We demonstrate that the expanded interlayer spacing, the increased active sites, and the enhanced capacitive behavior result in the enhanced reversible capacity and promoted kinetics for Na+storage. The sample with appropriate doping amount exhibits an initial charge capacity of 536.8 mAh g-1at 50 mA g-1and maintains 445.9 mAh g-1after 1000 cycles at a current density of 1 A g-1in a Na-metal half cell. Coupled with a carbon-coated Na4Fe3(PO4)2P2O7(NFPP) cathode, the full cell exhibits a capacity of 92.5 mAh g-1after 90 cycles, with a capacity retention of 91.6%. This work provides a facile and scalable method for synthesizing high-performance hard carbon anode materials for SIBs.

RESUMO

Changes in the amount and timing of precipitation may affect plant species coexistence. However, little is known about how these changes in precipitation structure plant communities. Here, we conducted a 6-year field precipitation manipulation experiment in the semi-arid steppe of Inner Mongolia, China, to assess the importance of species extinction and colonization in community assembly by incorporating information on phylogenetic and functional relatedness. Our results demonstrated that the decline in plant species richness under decreasing precipitation in the late and entire growing season could be attributed to a decrease in species colonization and an increase in species loss, respectively. The increase in species richness under increasing precipitation in the late growing season was mainly caused by increases in colonizing species. The loss of species that were more closely related to other residents under decreasing precipitation in the late growing season did not alter patterns of phylogenetic overdispersion, and the colonization of species that were more distantly related to residents under increasing precipitation in the late growing season shifted functional relatedness from clustering to randomness. Increasing precipitation may weaken the strength of environmental filtering induced by water stress in this semi-arid steppe and thus increase the probability of successful colonization of functionally dissimilar species relative to residents. Our study suggests that incorporating information on the functional and phylogenetic relatedness of locally lost resident species and the colonization of new species into analyses of community assembly processes can provide new insights into the general responses of plant communities to global change.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Intervertebral disc degeneration (IVDD) has affected millions of people worldwide and dramatically affects human beings' quality of life. Observational studies hypothesize that metabolites play key roles as markers and effectors of IVDD, but their causality has not yet been illustrated. METHODS: We conducted comprehensive Mendelian randomization (MR) to determine the causal relationship between 249 plasma metabolites and IVDD. Inverse-variance weighting was used as the primary estimate, whereas MR-Egger and weighed median were used to detect robustness. A series of sensitivity analyses including Cochran Q test, leave one out, and MR-Egger intercept analysis were also conducted. RESULTS: In total, we found 13 blood metabolites significantly associated with IVDD, including phospholipids in very large high-density lipoprotein (HDL), free cholesterol to total lipids ratio in very large HDL, average diameter for HDL particles, cholesteryl esters to total lipids ratio in large HDL, free cholesterol to total lipids ratio in medium HDL, creatinine, free cholesterol to total lipids ratio in large HDL, phospholipids to total lipids ratio in very large HDL, cholesterol to total lipids ratio in very large HDL, cholesteryl esters to total lipids ratio in large HDL, phospholipids in large HDL, total lipids in very large HDL, and total lipids in large HDL. No pleiotropy was detected. Heterogeneity existed in several estimates and random-effect inverse-variance weighting was applied. CONCLUSIONS: Our study highlighted the causal association of blood metabolites with the risk of IVDD. Our results provide new insights into possible treatment protocols controlling the concentration of specific blood metabolites in IVDD patients. Key messages What is already known on this topic Low back pain is the most common symptom for patients with intervertebral disc degeneration (IVDD) and influences the quality of life of large populations. Observational studies have indicated the association between metabolites and IVDD. However, causality has not been determined yet. What this study adds We conducted a comprehensive Mendelian randomization study to reveal the causal effect from 249 blood metabolites on low back pain. A total of 13 metabolites were found to causally affect the risk of IVDD, among which 11 were negatively associated and 2 were positively asscociated. How this study might affect research, practice, or policy These 13 significant metabolites could serve as biomarkers for IVDD and our results provide new insights into possible treatment protocols for IVDD patients.

RESUMO

To identify potential drug candidates, secondary metabolites of Dendrobium nobile were performed. As a result, two previously undescribed phenanthrene derivatives with a spirolactone ring (1 and 2), along with four known compounds, N-trans-cinnamoyltyramine (3), N-trans-p-coumaroyltyramine (4), N-trans-feruloyltyramine (5), and moscatilin (6), were isolated from Dendrobium nobile. The structures of the undescribed compounds were elucidated using NMR spectroscopy, electronic circular dichroism (ECD) calculations, and extensive spectroscopic data analysis. The cytotoxic effects of compounds on human tongue squamous cells OSC-19 were determined using MTT at concentrations of 2.5 µM, 5 µM, 10 µM, and 20 µM. Compound 6 exhibited potent inhibitory activity against OSC-19 cells with an IC50 of 1.32 µM. Migration assays and western blot assays demonstrated that compound 6 effectively inhibited migration by down-regulating MMP2 and MMP9 at concentrations of 0.5 µM and 1 µM. To investigate its effect on apoptosis, we performed AO/PI staining, flow cytometry, and WB experiments. The results showed that increasing concentrations led to increased red fluorescence, decreased green fluorescence, increased apoptosis rate, decreased expression of bcl-2, caspase 3, caspase 9, and parp proteins, and increased bax expression. Furthermore, the phosphorylation of JNK and P38 was activated, suggesting that compound 6 may induce apoptosis via the MAPK pathway.

RESUMO

The exploitation of clean energy promotes the exploration of next-generation lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) with high energy-density, long life, high safety, and low cost. Ni-rich layered cathode materials are one of the most promising candidates for next-generation LIBs. Numerous studies focusing on the synthesis and modifications of the layered cathode materials are published every year. Many physical features of precursors, such as density, morphology, size distribution, and microstructure of primary particles pass to the resulting cathode materials, thus significantly affecting their electrochemical properties and battery performance. This review focuses on the recent advances in the controlled synthesis of hydroxide precursors and the growth of particles. The essential parameters in controlled coprecipitation are discussed in detail. Some innovative technologies for precursor modifications and for the synthesis of novel precursors are highlighted. In addition, future perspectives of the development of hydroxide precursors are presented.

RESUMO

ZnSe has got extensive attention for high-performance LIBs anode due to its remarkable theoretical capacity and environmental friendliness. Nevertheless, the large volume variation for the ZnSe in the discharge/charge processes brings about rapid capacity fading and poor rate performance. Herein, ZnSe/C hollow polyhedrons are successfully synthesized by selenization of zeolitic imidazolate framework-8 (ZIF-8) with resorcinol-formaldehyde (RF) coating. The protection of C layer derived from RF coating layer and Ostwald ripening during the process of selenization play important roles in promoting formation of ZnSe/C hollow polyhedrons. The ZnSe/C hollow polyhedrons exhibit good rate performance and long-term cycle stability (345 mAh g-1 up to 1000 cycles at 1 A g-1 ) for lithium ion batteries (LIBs) anode. The improved electrochemical performance is benefit from the unique ZnSe/C hollow structure, in which the hollow structure can effectively avoid terrible volume expansion, and the thin ZnSe/C shell can not only provide adequate diffusion paths of lithium ions and but also enhance the electronic conductivity.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: The objective of this study was to determine fetal foramen ovale blood flow utilizing pulsed Doppler combined with spatiotemporal image correlation. METHODS: A cross-sectional study was performed in 440 normal fetuses between 20 and 40 weeks of gestation. In order to calculate foramen ovale blood flow, the foramen ovale flow velocity-time integral was obtained by pulsed Doppler ultrasonography, and the foramen ovale area was measured by using spatiotemporal image correlation rendering mode. Foramen ovale blood flow was calculated as the product of the foramen ovale area and the velocity-time integral. RESULTS: Gestational age-specific reference ranges are given for the absolute blood flow (ml/min) of foramen ovale, showing an exponential increase from 20 to 30 weeks of gestation, and a flat growth trend during the last trimester, while the weight-indexed flow (ml/min/kg) of foramen ovale decreased significantly. The median weight-indexed foramen ovale blood flow was 320.82 ml/min/kg (mean 319.1 ml/min/kg; SD 106.33 ml/min/kg). CONCLUSIONS: The reference range for fetal foramen ovale blood flow was determined from 20 to 40 weeks of gestation. The present data show that the volume of foramen ovale blood flow might have a limited capacity to increase during the last trimester.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Spinal cord injuries (SCIs) can cause a loss of neurons and associated sensory and motor functionality below the injured site. No approaches to treating SCIs in humans have been developed to date. Exosomes are extracellular vesicles that hold promise as a potential therapeutic modality when treating such injuries. The present study was thus designed to determine whether sonic hedgehog (Shh)-overexpressing bone mesenchymal stem cell (BMSC)-derived exosomes were protective in the context of SCIs. METHODS: Exosomes were extracted from control or Shh lentivirus-transduced BMSCs, yielding respective BMSC-Exo and BMSC-Shh-Exo preparations which were intravenously injected into SCI model rats. Shh expression in spinal cord tissues in these animals was then assessed via immunohistochemical staining, while Basso-Beattie-Bresnahan (BBB) scores were utilized to measure high limb motor function. Neuronal damage and regeneration within the spinal cord were additionally evaluated via terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase dUTP nick end labeling (TUNEL), Nissl, hematoxylin and eosin, and immunofluorescent staining. RESULTS: Both BMSC-Exo and BMSC-Shh-Exo preparations significantly increased Shh expression in the spinal cord of SCI model rats and improved BBB scores in these treated animals, while also increasing the frequencies of Nissl- and NeuN-positive neurons are reducing the numbers of apoptotic and GFAP-positive neurons. While both treatments yielded some degree of benefit to treated animals relative to untreated controls, BMSC-Shh-Exos were more beneficial than were control BMSC-Exos. CONCLUSIONS: Shh-overexpressing BMSC-derived exosomes represent an effective treatment that can facilitate SCI repair in rats.

RESUMO

The sensing of chromium(VI) (Cr(VI)) is highly desired, due to its toxic and carcinogenic effects upon human health. Fluorescent probes, especially carbon nanodots (CNDs), have been widely used for Cr(VI) sensing via the inner filter effect (IFE). However, improving the sensitivity of these probes remains a difficult issue. In this work, CNDs derived from ß-Lactoglobulin were applied as an ultrasensitive fluorescent probe for Cr(VI). With 260 nm excitation, the CNDs showed multi-band emission, including an ultraviolet 360 nm peak. The spectral matching of the CNDs with Cr(VI) led to synergistic suppression of both the excitation and emission light in the fluorescent sensing. As a consequence, the CNDs showed high sensitivity toward Cr(VI), the detection limit reaching as low as 20 nM. Moreover, taking advantage of the multi-emissive property of the CNDs, the synergistic effect was proven in an IFE-based sensing system, which might be extended to the design of other kinds of fluorescent probes.

RESUMO

Benzoylformamides (BFAs) are proposed as photocaged bases for redox free radical photopolymerization (FRP). Initially the dissolving capacity of BFAs was evaluated. Besides our previously reported photo-latent anion polymerization, BFAs, as versatile photocaged bases, can not only initiate the FRP of acrylates unassisted, but also perform redox FRP in combination with a benzoyl peroxide initiator. We detail a model photopolymerization in the presence of BFA-dBA (N,N-dibenzyl-2-oxo-2-phenylacetamide) as the photocaged base. In combination with a benzoyl peroxide initiator, BFAs are able to initiate the amine-mediated redox photopolymerization of acrylates, and enhance the photopolymerization rate. Finally, we investigated the mechanism of the radical formation to initiate the redox FRP, as exemplified by BFA-dBA.

RESUMO

AIM: We have shown that rutaecarpine extracted from the dried fruit of Chinese herb Evodia rutaecarpa (Juss) Benth (Wu Zhu Yu) promotes glucose consumption and anti-inflammatory cytokine expression in insulin-resistant primary skeletal muscle cells. In this study we investigated whether rutaecarpine ameliorated the obesity profiles, lipid abnormality, glucose metabolism and insulin resistance in rat model of hyperlipidemia and hyperglycemia. METHODS: Rats fed on a high-fat diet for 8 weeks, followed by injection of streptozotocin (30 mg/kg, ip) to induce hyperlipidemia and hyperglycemia. One week after streptozotocin injection, the fat-fed, streptozotocin-treated rats were orally treated with rutaecarpine (25 mg·kg(-1)·d(-1)) or a positive control drug metformin (250 mg·kg(-1)·d(-1)) for 7 weeks. The body weight, visceral fat, blood lipid profiles and glucose levels, insulin sensitivity were measured. Serum levels of inflammatory cytokines were analyzed. IRS-1 and Akt/PKB phosphorylation, PI3K and NF-κB protein levels in liver tissues were assessed; pathological changes of livers and pancreases were examined. Glucose uptake and AMPK/ACC2 phosphorylation were studied in cultured rat skeletal muscle cells in vitro. RESULTS: Administration of rutaecarpine or metformin significantly decreased obesity, visceral fat accumulation, water consumption, and serum TC, TG and LDL-cholesterol levels in fat-fed, streptozotocin-treated rats. The two drugs also attenuated hyperglycemia and enhanced insulin sensitivity. Moreover, the two drugs significantly decreased NF-κB protein levels in liver tissues and plasma TNF-α, IL-6, CRP and MCP-1 levels, and ameliorated the pathological changes in livers and pancreases. In addition, the two drugs increased PI3K p85 subunit levels and Akt/PKB phosphorylation, but decreased IRS-1 phosphorylation in liver tissues. Treatment of cultured skeletal muscle cells with rutaecarpine (20-180 µmol/L) or metformin (20 µmol/L) promoted the phosphorylation of AMPK and ACC2, and increased glucose uptake. CONCLUSION: Rutaecarpine ameliorates hyperlipidemia and hyperglycemia in fat-fed, streptozotocin-treated rats via regulating IRS-1/PI3K/Akt signaling pathway in liver and AMPK/ACC2 signaling pathway in skeletal muscles.

RESUMO

In this work, carbon-free and carbon-coated spinel LiCrTiO4 oxides were synthesized by a conventional solid state reaction. The lithium-ion diffusion coefficient and electronic conductivity of prepared electrode materials were systematically investigated using the galvanostatic intermittent titration technique (GITT), cyclic voltammetry (CV), and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). The rate performances of the prepared materials were evaluated by galvanostatic charge-discharge. Carefully comparing the charge-discharge polarization potential of both materials, we unexpectedly discovered that the pristine LiCrTiO4 electrode demonstrated asymmetric polarization during the charging-discharging process, which is possibly attributed to the nonuniform electron conductivity between the endmember of a two-phase reaction, whereas carbon coating could level this phenomenon. Additionally, using an asymmetric core-shell model from the microscopic point of view can easily explain this common phenomenon. Meanwhile, this new research perspective can be extended to other active materials in lithium ion batteries.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: Based on the DNA fragments of medicinal plants of NCBJ database, the DNA Probe, which can be used to identify original plants in the Chinese Pharmacopoeia (2010 edition), was got. METHODS: First of all, get the Latin name of the original plants by collating the Chinese Pharmacopoeia. Next, download the medicinal plants' DNA fragments from the NCBI database, including ITS, matK, rbcL, psbK-psbI and trnH-psbA, then design probe by using Array Designer 4. 2. Finally, analyze each probe's versatility in the same kind of original plant and conservatism in different kinds of original plants by using Matlab, then determine the specificity of the probe. RESULTS: Regarding the Latin name of 586 original plants in the Chinese Pharmacopoeia (2010 edition) and the above five gene fragments as retrieval condition, 7 613 sequences were downloaded from NCBI, then 315 436 probes were got in total by analyzing. What's more, after analyzing versatility and conservatism of the probes,13 814 specific probes were got. Furthermore,in theory, 376 kinds of original plants could be detected. Because there existed the lack of related gene fragments in the NCBI database,or the sequences were short of specificity,210 species of original plants which were involved in the Chinese Pharmacopoeia didn't receive the corresponding probe. CONCLUSION: The results of the study can provide the further development of medicinal plants' identification chip with vital information support, and the excavation methods of probe can be widely used. Furthermore, the results of the study indicate the original plants which need sequencing importantly in the future.

RESUMO

It is now well established that inflammation plays an important role in the development of numerous chronic metabolic diseases including insulin resistance (IR) and type 2 diabetes (T2DM). Skeletal muscle is responsible for 75% of total insulin-dependent glucose uptake; consequently, skeletal muscle IR is considered to be the primary defect of systemic IR development. Our pre- vious study has shown that rutaecarpine (Rut) can benefit blood lipid profile, mitigate inflammation, and improve kidney, liver, pan- creas pathology status of T2DM rats. However, the effects of Rut on inflammatory cytokines in the development of IR-skeletal muscle cells have not been studied. Thus, our objective was to investigate effects of Rut on inflammatory cytokines interleukiri (IL)-1, IL-6 and tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α in insulin resistant primary skeletal muscle cells (IR-PSMC). Primary cultures of skeletal muscle cells were prepared from 5 neonate SD rats, and the primary rat skeletal muscle cells were identified by cell morphology, effect of ru- taecarpine on cell proliferation by MTT assay. IR-PSMC cells were induced by palmitic acid (PA), the glucose concentration was measured by glucose oxidase and peroxidase (GOD-POD) method. The effects of Rut on inflammatory cytokines IL-1, IL-6 and TNF-α in IR-PSMC cells were tested by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) kit. The results show that the primary skeletal muscle cells from neonatal rat cultured for 2-4 days, parallel alignment regularly, and cultured for 7 days, cells fused and myotube formed. It was shown that Rut in concentration 0-180. 0 µmol x L(-1) possessed no cytotoxic effect towards cultured primary skeletal muscle cells. However, after 24 h exposure to 0.6 mmol x L(-1) PA, primary skeletal muscle cells were able to induce a state of insulin resistance. The results obtained indicated significant decrease (P < 0.05 to P < 0.001) IL-1, IL-6 and TNF-α production by cultured IR-PSMC cells when incubating 24 hours with Rut, beginning from 20 to 180.0 µmol x L(-1). IL-1, IL-6 and TNF-α in the Rut treated groups were dose-dependently decreased compared with that in the IR-PSMC control group. Our results demonstrated that the Rut promoted glucose consumption and improved insulin resistance possibly through suppression of inflammatory cytokines in the IR-PSMC cells.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: The SSR information in the transcriptome of Erigeron breviscapus was analyzed in this study, in order to further develop new functional genes SSR markers laid a solid foundation. METHOD: SSR loci were searched in all of 52,060 unigenes by using est_timmer. Perl program and SSR primers were designed by Primer3. Furthermore, 36 pairs of primers were randomly selected for the polymorphism analysis on 13 Erigeron breviscapus plants collected from different places. RESULT: A total of 3639 SSRs were found in the transcriptome of Erigeron breviscapus, distributed in 3260 unigenes with the distribution frequency of 6.99%. Di-nucleotide repeat was the main type, account for as much as 34.41% of all SSRs, followed by mono-nucleotide (31.41%) and tri-nucleotide repeat motif (28.08%). The di-nucleotide repeat motifs of AT/AT and AC/GT were the predominant repeat types (28.71%). The tri-nucleotide repeat motifs of AAT/AT was the predominant repeat types (7.94%). For validation the availability of those SSR primers, we randomly selected 36 pairs of primers for PCR amplification. Among them, 34 pair primers (94.44%) produced clear and reproductive bands, 19 pair primers showed polymorphism (52.78%), and 13 Erigeron breviscapus plants were divided into 2 groups.
