RESUMO

Neural interfaces are crucial conduits between neural tissues and external devices, enabling the recording and modulation of neural activity. However, with increasing demand, simple neural interfaces are no longer adequate to meet the requirements for precision, functionality, and safety. There are three main challenges in fabricating advanced neural interfaces: sensitivity, heat management, and biocompatibility. The electrical, chemical, and optical properties of 2D nanomaterials enhance the sensitivity of various types of neural interfaces, while the newly developed interfaces do not exhibit adverse reactions in terms of heat management and biocompatibility. Additionally, 2D nanomaterials can further improve the functionality of these interfaces, including magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) compatibility, stretchability, and drug delivery. In this review, we examine the recent applications of 2D nanomaterials in neural interfaces, focusing on their contributions to enhancing performance and functionality. Finally, we summarize the advantages and disadvantages of these nanomaterials, analyze the importance of biocompatibility testing for 2D nanomaterials, and propose that improving and developing composite material structures to enhance interface performance will continue to lead the forefront of this field.

RESUMO

In recent years, anterior tibiofibular ligament-distal fascicle transfers for anterior talofibular ligament augmentation repair have proposed. However, a comprehensive biomechanical study on the anterior tibiofibular ligament-distal fascicle transfer is still lacking. We are established four distinct groups, namely the normal, the anterior talofibular ligament rupture, the anterior talofibular ligament repair, and the anterior talofibular ligament repair + anterior tibiofibular ligament-distal fascicle transfer. We assessed the anterior drawer test and varus stress test of the ankle in each group. Moreover, we employed the model to simulate and compute the total displacement and von-Mises stress of the talus cartilage at varying gait phases, including foot strike, tibia vertical, and toe-off phases. The results of the anterior drawer test and varus stress test revealed that the anterior talofibular ligament repair + anterior tibiofibular ligament-distal fascicle transfer group exhibited greater closeness to the normal group. Regarding von-Mises stress in cartilage, the three gait instants had higher values in the anterior talofibular ligament repair + anterior tibiofibular ligament-distal fascicle transfer group than the other groups. Nevertheless, regarding total displacement, the toe-off phases exhibited higher values in the anterior talofibular ligament repair + anterior tibiofibular ligament-distal fascicle transfer group than the other groups. Using ATiFL-DF transfer to augment ATFL repair is a potential feasible procedure. However, this procedure could potentially compromise the anterior tibiofibular ligament's contribution to the dynamic stability of the ankle. Therefore, we recommend conducting further in-depth research to ensure the suitability and success of this technique in a clinical environment.

RESUMO

Technological advances in the detection of circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) have made new options available for diagnosis, classification, biological studies, and treatment selection. However, effective and practical methods for analyzing this emerging class of biomarkers are still lacking. In this work, a fluorescent biosensor was designed for the label-free detection of ctDNA (EGFR 19 del for non-small cell lung cancer, NSCLC). The biosensor was based on the fact that MnO2 nanosheets (MnO2 NSs) have stronger affinity towards single-stranded DNA (ssDNA), as compared with double-stranded DNA (dsDNA). As a high-performance nanoenzyme, MnO2 NSs could oxidize dopamine (DA) into fluorescent polydopamine nanoparticles (FL-PDA NPs), which could be used as a fluorescence signal. The probe ssDNA could be adsorbed on the surface of MnO2 NSs through π-π stacking, and the active site would be masked, causing a lower fluorescence. After the targets were recognized by probe ssDNA to form dsDNA, its affinity for MnO2 NSs decreased and the active site recovered, causing a restored fluorescence. It was verified that Mn ions, •OH radicals and electron transfer were the important factors in the catalytic oxidation of DA. Under the optimal experimental conditions, this biosensor exhibited a detection limit of 380 pM and a linear range of 25-125 nM, providing reliable readout in a short time (45 min). This sensor exhibited outstanding specificity, stability and reproducibility. In addition, this sensor was applied to the detection of ctDNA in serum samples and cell lysates. It is demonstrated that FL-PDA NPs can be used as a fluorescence signal for easy, rapid and label-free detection of ctDNA without any other amplification strategies, and the proposed strategy has great potential for biomarker detection in the field of liquid biopsy.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND With the development of arthroscopy and suture anchor, the modified BrostrÓ§m technique has made remarkable progress. However, it is unclear which material is most suitable for treating anterior talofibular ligament injury (ATFL). This study evaluated the short-term efficacy of 2 suture anchors (metal vs biodegradable materials) in arthroscopic ATFL repair. MATERIAL AND METHODS From January 2018 to December 2019, 82 patients with ankle disorders (51 men and 31 women) with ATFL injury received arthroscopic repair with suture anchor through the BrostrÓ§m-Gould procedure. The mean age was 38.70±9.35 years (range, 18-54 years). Each patient was followed up. American Orthopedic Foot and Ankle Society score (AOFAS), Karlsson Ankle Functional Score (KAFS), and the Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) were used to evaluate functional status and pain. RESULTS All patients were followed up for 21.21±2.19 months (range, 18-25 months). No complications were found either group. Preoperative clinical and functional scores in both groups had no significant difference (P>0.05). The functional score increased significantly in both groups (P<0.001). At the last follow-up, the mean AOFAS score was 93.00 (90.00, 96.00) in the Biodegradable group and 93.50 (91.00, 96.00) in the Metallic group (P=0.31). The mean KAFS score was 91.50 (85.00, 95.00) in the Biodegradable group and 93.00 (90.00, 95.50) in the Metallic group (P=0.10); the mean VAS score was 1.50 (1.00, 1.80) in the Biodegradable group and 1.30 (0.98, 1.70) in the Metallic group (P=0.22). CONCLUSIONS Arthroscopic repair of ATFL injury with suture anchors can improve the prognosis of CAI. There were no statistically significant differences in clinical and functional outcomes with metal or biodegradable suture anchors at short-term follow-up.

RESUMO

An ultrasensitive electrochemical biosensor was designed for the rapid label-free detection of circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA, EGFR 19 Dels for non-small cell lung cancer, NSCLC). We linked the highly conjugated tricatecholate, 2,3,6,7,10,11-hexahydroxytriphenylene (HHTP) with Ni(II) ions into the two-dimensional porous conductive metal-organic frameworks (MOFs), which is termed Ni-catecholates (Ni-CAT). Then, the AuNPs/Ni-catecholates/carbon black/polarized pencil graphite electrode (AuNPs/Ni-CAT/CB/PPGE) was obtained by electrodeposition of AuNPs on the surface of PPGE modified with Ni-CAT/CB composite materials. The AuNPs/Ni-CAT/CB/PPGE were used for label-less detection of ctDNA, with a total detection time of only 30 min. Under optimal detection conditions, the AuNPs/Ni-CAT/CB/PPGE sensor exhibited excellent detection performance with good linear response to ctDNA over a wide concentration range and the detection limit down to the femtomolar level. The sensor was applied to the determination of ctDNA in serum samples with high sensitivity. This simple, efficient, and expeditious method has practical value in liquid biopsy of ctDNA and has potential for development in early detection, treatment, and prognosis of tumors. RESUMO

Carbon nanotube (CNT)-based materials have attracted tremendous interest for their high performance in oil separation. However, the preparation of CNT based materials always require harmful and expensive chemicals. Here, a biological assembly route was applied to assemble CNTs onto a fungal hyphae (FH) to produce FH/CNTs composites, followed by pyrolysis to obtain a hydrophobic CNT based aerogel for oil separation, which is a more environmentally friendly process. The as-prepared FH/CNTs-800 aerogel (pyrolyzed at 800 °C) showed hydrophobicity with a water contact angle of 143° and high specific surface area (1041.2 m2 g-1). The oil absorption results showed that the as-prepared FH/CNTs aerogels could absorb a wide range of oils with high absorption capacities ranging from 48 to 138 times their own weight. Furthermore, the oil-loaded aerogel was recycled through burning with little reduction in the oil absorption capacity. In addition, FH/CNTs-800 provided a high specific capacitance of 232 F g-1 at 1 A g-1 and maintained a capacity retention of 70.62% at 20 A g-1. Therefore, this study offers a simple, low-cost and environmentally friendly bioassembly route for large-scale assembly of CNTs into macroscopic 3D hydrophobic aerogels for highly efficient water-oil separation.

RESUMO

A facile and practical palladium-catalyzed nucleophilic substitution/C-H activation/aromatization cascade reaction has been developed. A range of 6-unsubstituted phenanthridines could be obtained in moderate to good yields (31-85%) with readily prepared N-Ms arylamines and commercially available 2-bromobenzyl bromide derivatives as starting materials. The potential application of the protocol was also demonstrated by the expeditious synthesis of the natural alkaloid trisphaeridine.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Evidence from epidemiological studies has demonstrated that a shorter or longer duration of nighttime sleep may increase the risk of metabolic syndrome. Little is known about the association between daily sleep duration, including nighttime sleep and daytime napping duration, and metabolic syndrome. We aimed to examine the association between daily sleep duration and metabolic syndrome and its components in middle-aged and older Chinese adults using data from the Dongfeng-Tongji Cohort study. METHODS: A total of 25,184 participants (mean age 63.6 years) who completed the baseline questionnaire, physical examination and laboratory tests were included in this analysis. Daily sleep duration was calculated by summing up nighttime sleep duration and daytime napping duration. The metabolic syndrome was defined using the International Diabetes Federation criteria. Logistic regression models were used to investigate the association between daily sleep duration and the risk of metabolic syndrome and its components. RESULTS: Of the participants, 8,046 (31.9%) had metabolic syndrome. Females had a higher prevalence (38.6%) of metabolic syndrome than males (23.9%). Female participants with longer daily sleep duration (≥8 hours, all P < 0.05) per day had a higher risk of metabolic syndrome compared with those sleeping 7-7.9 hours, adjusting for potential confounders. Longer daily sleep was positively associated with individual components of metabolic syndrome except central obesity in females, and was only positively associated with HDL-C in males. Further analysis revealed that a longer duration of daytime napping (≥90 minutes, P < 0.05) was associated with the risk of metabolic syndrome in females. However, nighttime sleep duration was not associated with the risk of metabolic syndrome in either males or females. CONCLUSIONS: Our findings suggested that longer daytime napping duration rather than nighttime sleeping duration was associated with increased risk of metabolic syndrome in females. The findings have significant implications for further studies to explore the appropriate sleep duration for middle-aged and older adults.

RESUMO

Anterior talofibular ligament injuries and osteochondral lesions of the talus present unique challenges to orthopedic surgeons. This study aimed to investigate the relevant relationship between them by analyzing the Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) results of clinical patients and single-cell RNA sequence (scRNA seq) results of healthy talus cartilage to discuss the risk factors. Data from 164 patients from 2018 to 2023 was retrospectively analyzed. The correlation analysis between ATFL injury grade and the Hepple stage of OLT determined by MRI was performed. Publicly available single-cell RNA datasets were collected. Single-cell RNA datasets from five volunteers of healthy talus cartilage were analyzed. ATFL injury grade was relevant with the Hepple stage of OLT (P < 0.05). The results of multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that injured area was the independent influencing factor of the incidence rate and the severity of OLT (P < 0.05). The Hepple stage of OLT was relevant with AOFAS and VAS (P < 0.05). Single-cell RNA sequence results showed that among the 9 subtypes of chondrocytes, the interaction strength between HTC-A and HTC-B is the highest. Their physical interactions are mainly achieved through the CD99 signaling pathway, and factor interactions are mainly achieved through the ANGPTL signaling pathway. Anterior talofibular ligament injury may lead to osteochondral lesions of the talus. Early medical intervention should be carried out for ligament injuries to restore joint stability and avoid cartilage damage.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Clinically, we find that tinnitus patients often have hearing loss. According to the most accepted mechanism of tinnitus, that is, the spontaneous discharge and abnormal synchronization of neurons after afferent reduction, tinnitus frequency is closely related to the frequency of hearing loss. OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this study was to investigate the correlation of tinnitus pitch with the frequency of hearing loss. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A total of 500 patients with unilateral or bilateral chronic tinnitus were enrolled in this study. All patients underwent pure tone audiometry (PTA) and tinnitus acoustic examination. Hearing loss levels and frequencies were recorded. The relationship between tinnitus pitch and hearing loss level and frequency was statistically analyzed. RESULTS: Our results showed that 96.6% of the 500 tinnitus patients had hearing loss. Statistical analysis showed that low frequency (LF) tinnitus was correlated with LF hearing loss, but moderate frequency & high frequency (MF&HF) tinnitus was not significantly associated with MF&HF hearing loss. The coincidence of tinnitus pitch with the highest hearing threshold correlated with the degree of hearing loss. CONCLUSION AND SIGNIFICANCE: The vast majority of patients with chronic subjective tinnitus had hearing loss, and the frequency of tinnitus correlated with the degree and frequency of hearing loss but not exactly fall within the frequency range of hearing loss.

RESUMO

Objective: Chronic subjective tinnitus is a worldwide intractable problem. In our previous studies, customized music therapy combined with a follow-up system can reduce tinnitus perception and improve anxiety/depression. This study aims to explore which characteristics of tinnitus patients are more likely to benefit from our therapy. Study Design: This study included 1031 patients with chronic subjective tinnitus, all of whom completed customized music therapy with the follow-up system. Population demographics, tinnitus characteristics, and tinnitus-related scales at pretherapy and posttherapy were collected. Setting: Huadong Hospital affiliated Fudan University, Department of Otorhinolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery from 2018 to 2022. Methods: A paired t test and the one-way analysis of variance were utilized to the overall efficacy and stratified difference based on tinnitus duration/age/tinnitus frequency. Results: There were significant statistical differences in the Tinnitus Handicap Inventory (THI), Tinnitus Loudness Visual Analog Scale (VAS), and Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS)-A/D scores between pretherapy and 3 months posttherapy. THI and HADS (A/D) scores decreased the most in the 1-year duration tinnitus group. The most significant decrease in THI and VAS scores was observed in the 31- to 50-year-old tinnitus group. Patients with high-frequency tinnitus and extended high-frequency tinnitus had greater decreases generally than those with low-frequency tinnitus though no significance. Conclusion: Group with severe and prolonged tinnitus, shorter duration of tinnitus onset, and 31 to 50 years old benefit more from our therapy. Therefore, standardized personalized music and consulting and follow-up systems while promoting early treatment can reduce tinnitus and its comorbidities.

RESUMO

Polyferric sulfate (PFS) and ferric chloride (FC) were compared for their efficiencies in capturing organic carbon and phosphorus, and their effects on the anaerobic fermentation process of sludge from a pilot-scale two-stage reactor were studied. Both PFS and FC promoted organic carbon and phosphorus capture. Further study revealed that PFS-based sludge with a dosage of 18 mg Fe/Lsewage showed a better volatile fatty acids (VFAs) production performance (202.97 ± 2.38 mg chemical oxygen demand (COD)/g volatile solids (VS)) than that of FC-based sludge (169.25 ± 1.56 mg COD/g VS). Besides, the high dosage of PFS effectively promoted the activities of the α-glucosidase and proteases. The dissimilatory iron reduction process enhanced sludge flocs disintegration and the conversion of carbohydrates and proteins to VFAs. Non-hydroxyapatite phosphorus predominated in the total phosphorus of all samples. This study contributes to developing strategies for optimizing iron-based sludge management and high-value product recovery.

RESUMO

A Ti3C2Tx/MoS2/MWCNT@rGONR nanocomposite was prepared for the first time for building a sensitive electrochemical aptasening platform to simultaneously detect kanamycin (Kana) and chloramphenicol (Cap). Owing to their accordion-like structure, rich surface groups, and high charge mobility, Ti3C2Tx/MoS2/MWCNT@rGONR composites provided a spacious covalent immobilization surface and a better electrochemical aptasensing platform. The aptamers of Kana and Cap used in sensors enhance the selectivity. Furthermore, TiP, an ion exchanger, was used for loading more different metal ions functioning as labels to form a sandwich-type sensor together with Ti3C2Tx/MoS2/MWCNT@rGONR, improving the electrochemical sensitivity and obtaining a highly distinguishable signal readout. Under the optimized conditions, the sensor has good detection limits of 0.135 nmol L-1 and 0.173 nmol L-1 for Kana and Cap, respectively, at the same linearity concentration of 0.5-2500 nmol L-1. Finally, it was successfully applied for detection in milk and fish meat, and the results were compared with the standard method HPLC, indicating its great potential for food safety monitoring.

RESUMO

The detection of circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA), as a practical liquid biopsy technique, was of great significance for the study of cancer diagnosis and prognosis. However, reported methods for detection ctDNA still have some limitations, such as tedious process and high cost. In this study, CsPbBr3 nanosheet (CsPbBr3 NS) with high water stability was prepared by etching, and its fluorescence intensity could be stably stored for 1 year. The Ti3C2Tx possessed high quenching efficiency for CsPbBr3 NS and the HOMO-LUMO orbital study revealed that the PET mechanism was responsible for fluorescence quenching. And the Ti3C2Tx showed stronger affinity towards single-stranded DNA (ssDNA), as compared with double-stranded DNA (dsDNA). The probe ssDNA could be adsorbed on the surface of Ti3C2Tx through π-π stacking. After the targets were recognized by probe ssDNA to form dsDNA, its affinity with Ti3C2Tx decreased and the active site of Ti3C2Tx recovered, causing a high quenching efficiency on CsPbBr3 NS. Based on this, a label-free fluorescent biosensor was designed for the sensitive detection of ctDNA (EGFR 19 Dels for non-small cell lung cancer, NSCLC). Under the optimal experimental conditions, this biosensor exhibited a detection limit of 180 fM and a linear range of 50 pM-350 pM with amplification of magnetic beads through strand displacement reaction. In addition, this sensor was applied to the detection of ctDNA in serum samples and cells lysates. This method for ctDNA detection was expected to have great potential for biomarker detection in the field of liquid biopsy.

RESUMO

The development of point-of-care testing (POCT) for circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) is meaningful for the non-invasive cancers screening and diagnosis, particularly in resource-limited settings. The microfluidic paper-based analytical device (µPAD) provides an ideal platform, its application in ctDNA assays remains underexplored. In this work, a multifunctional µPAD was manufactured, which can enhance the efficiency and reduce the cost of ctDNA sensing. Additionally, a smartphone-based application analysis was fabricated for convenient, portable detection and colorimetric signal readout. Moreover, the novel oxidase-like MnB2 nanozyme was introduced in the sandwiches sensing strategy, utilizing its catalytic properties to effectively generate a colorimetric signal. The use of MnB2 nanozyme in sensing application is relatively novel, and its catalytic performance and mechanism was thoroughly evaluated via experiment and density functional theory (DFT) calculations. After optimizing the detection conditions, the proposed biosensor exhibited satisfactory results. Furthermore, the method was successfully used to detect ctDNA in tumor cell lysates and peripheral blood samples from tumor-bearing mice. The results were consistent with standard qPCR method, affirming the reliability of our POCT analysis device in ctDNA detection. Thus, this work not only provides a paper-based POCT device and intelligent analysis tool for portable cancers diagnosis, but it also paves a new application path for MnB2 nanozyme in the sensing filed.

RESUMO

Insufficient antigen self-presentation of tumor cells and ineffective antigen cross-presentation by dendritic cells (DCs) contribute to diminished immune recognition and activation, which cause resistance to immunotherapies. Herein, we present an ultrasound-activatable in situ vaccine by utilizing a hybrid nanovesicle composed of a thylakoid (TK)/platelet (PLT) membrane and a liposome encapsulating DNA methyltransferase inhibitor zebularine (Zeb) and sonosensitizer hematoporphyrin monomethyl ether (HMME). Upon local exposure to ultrasound, reactive oxygen species (ROS) are generated and induce the sequential release of the payloads. Zeb can efficiently inhibit tumor DNA hypermethylation, promoting major histocompatibility complex class I (MHC-I) molecules-mediated antigen self-presentation to improve immune recognition. Meanwhile, the catalase on the TK membrane can decompose the tumoral overexpressed H2O2 into O2, which boosts the generation of ROS and the destruction of tumor cells, resulting in the in situ antigen release and cross-presentation of tumor antigens by DCs. This in situ vaccine simultaneously promotes antigen self-presentation and cross-presentation, resulting in heightened antitumor immunity to overcome resistance.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: Carotid blowout syndrome (CBS) is a rare but potentially life-threatening complication that can occur in patients with head and neck cancer (HNC), especially with a history of radiotherapy. This study aimed to review and initially compare managements for post-radiation CBS in patients with HNC. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A systematic review of published studies was performed. Information including management, survival, and complication were collected. RESULTS: A total of 39 articles and 917 cases were included in the systematic review. The interval between radiation therapy and CBS ranged from 1.2 years to 17.8 years. The managements of CBS included embolization, stent, bypass surgery, surgical ligation, electrocoagulation, flap coverage, arterial repair, and nasopharyngeal packing. The cumulative 30-day, 1-year, and 2-year overall survival rates were 85.2 %, 48.9 %, and 37.0 %, respectively, with a median survival time of 11.3 months. Disease progression and rebleeding were the most common death causes. The lowest rebleeding rate and neurologic complications rate were presented in cases receiving bypass surgery at 1.4 % and 10.8 %, respectively. The highest rebleeding rate of 35.6 % was showed in cases underwent stent, and the highest neurologic complications rate of 32.0 % was showed in cases underwent ligation. CONCLUSION: Post-radiation CBS in patients with HNC had a low survival rate and high complication rate. Rebleeding and neurologic complication were common complications. Endovascular embolization and stent were the mainstream management, and bypass surgery presented a promising outcome in survival and complication for selected patients.

RESUMO

Most colorimetric methods based on nanozymes need to have excellent performance under acidic condition, so they are currently facing some challenges in the field of food hazard detection. Herein, a facile and rapid colorimetric sensor for kanamycin (KAN) detection in foods under neutral condition has been designed using the peroxidase-mimic activity of porous nanozyme like Co3 O4 nanodisk. Further investigations showed that the interaction mechanism between porous Co3 O4 nanodisk and substrates belongs to a ping-pong model, and the inhibition type of KAN on the peroxidase-mimic activity is noncompetitive inhibition. The constructed sensor has good sensitivity for KAN with the limit of 57 nM, and the color changes can be discerned visually when KAN exceeds 0.5 µM. Besides, the colorimetric sensor obtains excellent recovery results in chicken serum, milk, honey, and pork, which shows that the proposed sensing strategy can provide a rapid and convenient detection method for KAN in foods under neutral condition. PRACTICAL APPLICATION: The established sensing strategy can rapidly distinguish whether KAN residue exceeds the permissible level within 10 min, which meets the requirement for on-site monitoring of antibiotics in foods, and also open up a new idea for other hazards detection under neutral condition.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVES: The role of the distal tibiofibular ligament in the occurrence of high ankle sprain (HAS) has been widely studied. But previous studies have overlooked the physiological and anatomical differences between males and females and have not further refined gender. Therefore, the impact of the anatomical morphology of fibular notch (FN) on HAS in different genders is still unclear. This study aimed to explore the impact of different types of FN on the severity of HAS and to estimate the prognosis of patients with HAS while excluding anatomical differences caused by gender. METHODS: One hundred and eighty patients with HAS were included in this study as the experimental group (i.e., HAS group). They were further divided into four groups according to gender and FN depth, with deep concave FN ≥ 4 mm and shallow flat FN < 4 mm. Another 180 normal individuals were set as the control group. The FN morphological indicators, tibiofibular distance (TFD), and ankle mortise indexes were measured and compared with those in HAS group. The independent t-test was used to compare continuous variables between groups, the intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) was used to analyze the reliability of intra-observer measurement, and the Pearson correlation coefficient was used to verify the correlation between FN and the severity of HAS. RESULTS: In males with shallow flat type, the measurements of anterior tibiofibular distance (aTFD), middle tibiofibular distance (mTFD), posterior tibiofibular distance (pTFD), front ankle mortise width (fAMW), middle ankle mortise width (mAMW), posterior ankle mortise width (pAMW), and depth of ankle mortise (DOAM) in HAS group were significantly larger than those in normal group (p < 0.05). In male patients with deep concave type, the measurements of aTFD, mTFD, fAMW, mAMW, and DOAM were significantly larger than those in normal group (p < 0.05). Among female patients with shallow flat type, the measurements of aTFD, mTFD, pTFD, fAMW, mAMW, pAMW, and DOAM were found to be significantly larger than those in normal group (p < 0.05). Among female patients with deep concave type, the measurements of mTFD, pTFD, fAMW, mAMW, and DOAM were found to be significantly larger than those of the normal group (p < 0.05). The depth of FN was negatively correlated with TFD, and the AOFAS score of patients with shallow flat type was significantly lower than that of patients with deep concave type after treatment (p < 0.05). CONCLUSIONS: In different gender groups, compared with the normal controls, the TFD and partial ankle mortise indices were significantly different in HAS patients. Moreover, FN depth was negatively correlated with TFD, and the AOFAS score of shallow flat patients was significantly lower than that of deep concave patients. These suggested that shallow flat FN may be associated with more severe distal tibiofibular ligament injury and ankle mortise widening, leading to poorer prognosis. This should be taken seriously in clinical practice.
