RESUMO

Efficient non-noble metal bifunctional electrocatalysts can increase the conversion rate of electric energy in the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) and the oxygen evolution reaction (OER). Herein, a ball & sheet MoS2/Ni3S2 composite with wide-layer-spacing and high 1T-rich MoS2 is assembled on nickel foam (NF) via a two-step solvothermal method with polymeric sulfur (S-r-DIB) as the sulfur source. The obtained material serves as both the cathode and the anode toward overall water splitting in an alkaline electrolyte. The results proved that the interpenetration of MoS2/Ni3S2-p with a ball and sheet structure increased the material active surface area and exposed more catalytic active sites, which contributed to the penetration of solution and the transfer of charge/hydrion. Meanwhile, two different semiconductors of MoS2 and Ni3S2 along with the presence of ample active sulfur edge sites and few-layer, wide-layer-spacing structures of MoS2 lead to an outstanding electrocatalytic activity. In particular, the electrodes of MoS2/Ni3S2-p only need a battery voltage of 1.55 V at 10 mA cm-2. The bifunctional electrocatalyst MoS2/Ni3S2-p also shows excellent stability at large current densities during the electrochemical test.

RESUMO

The preparation of an electrocatalyst for the oxygen evolution reaction (OER) with high catalytic activity, good long-term durability and rapid reaction kinetics through interface engineering is of great significance. Herein, we have developed a bimetallic sulfide particle cluster-supported three-dimensional graphene aerogel (FeNiS@GA), which serves as an efficient electrocatalyst for OER, by a one-step hydrothermal method. Profiting from the synergy of the FeNiS particle cluster with high capacitance and GA with its three-dimensional porous nanostructure, FeNiS@GA shows a high specific surface area, large pore volume, low contact resistance, and decreases the electron and ion transport routes. FeNiS@GA exhibits outstanding OER activity (when the current density is 50 mA cm-2, the overpotential is 341 mV), low Tafel slope (63.87 mV dec-1) and remarkable stability in alkaline solutions, outperforming FeNiS, NiS@GA, FeS@GA and RuO2. Due to its simple synthesis process and excellent electrocatalytic performance, FeNiS@GA shows great potential to replace noble metal-based catalysts in practical applications.

RESUMO

In this paper, a quadratic convolution neural network (QCNN) using both audio and vibration signals is utilized for bearing fault diagnosis. Specifically, to make use of multi-modal information for bearing fault diagnosis, the audio and vibration signals are first fused together using a 1 × 1 convolution. Then, a quadratic convolution neural network is applied for the fusion feature extraction. Finally, a decision module is designed for fault classification. The proposed method utilizes the complementary information of audio and vibration signals, and is insensitive to noise. The experimental results show that the accuracy of the proposed method can achieve high accuracies for both single and multiple bearing fault diagnosis in the noisy situations. Moreover, the combination of two-modal data helps improve the performance under all conditions.

RESUMO

A novel and efficient technique has been designed for the creation of oxygen vacancies on La2Ti2O7 (LTO) nanosheets. This is achieved via a controlled solid-state reaction between NaBH4 and LTO nanosheets. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) analyses expose that these processed LTO specimens possess a unique crystalline core/amorphous shell structure, represented as La2Ti2O7@La2Ti2O7-x. According to X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) observations, there is a notable correlation between the reaction time, temperature, and the concentration of oxygen vacancies. The concentration of these vacancies tends to increase along with the reaction time and temperature. Concurrently, UV-Visible spectra and photocatalytic tests reveal a significant impact of oxygen vacancies on the LTO surface on both light absorption and photocatalytic functionality. Most notably, the LTO nanosheets with engineered oxygen vacancies have demonstrated an exceptional photocatalytic capacity for hydrogen production under visible light. The maximal activity recorded was an impressive 149 µmol g-1 h-1, which is noticeably superior to the performance of the pristine La2Ti2O7.

RESUMO

The development of intelligent indicator film that can detect changes in food quality is a new trend in the food packaging field. The WPNFs-PU-ACN/Gly film was prepared based on whey protein isolate nanofibers (WPNFs). Anthocyanin (ACN) and glycerol (Gly) were used as the color indicator and the plasticizer, respectively, while pullulan (PU) was added to enhance mechanical properties of WPNFs-PU-ACN/Gly edible film. In the study, the addition of ACN improved the hydrophobicity and oxidation resistance of the indicator film; with an increase in pH, the color of the indicator film shifted from dark pink to grey, and its surface was uniform and smooth. Therefore, the WPNFs-PU-ACN/Gly edible film would be suitable for sensing the pH of salmon, which changes with deterioration, as the color change of ACN was completely consistent with fish pH. Furthermore, the color change after being exposed to grey was evaluated in conjunction with hardness, chewiness, and resilience of salmon as an indication. This shows that intelligent indicator film made of WPNFs, PU, ACN, and Gly could contribute to the development of safe food.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: There is an urgent need to improve the clinical and basic research of esophageal cancer. The purpose of this study was to explore the prognostic value of tumor-infiltrating plasma cells (TIP) on overall survival (OS) of patients with esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC). METHODS: Three independent cohorts, which include 116 consecutive cases who received radical resection of ESCC in our institution (set to be discovery set), 179 cases from public GEO database (validation GEO set) and 95 cases from TCGA (validation TCGA set), with a total of 390 cases were retrospectively enrolled in this study. RESULTS: TIP was detected by immunohistochemical staining of CD138 in the paraffin-embedded specimen after surgery in the discovery set and was validated by using an established computational algorithm in the GEO and TCGA sets. Kaplan-Meier survival analysis showed high TIP was coincidently and significantly associated with favorable OS of ESCC in discovery set (p = 0.004) and validation GEO set (p = 0.002), showed a trend of better survival in validation TCGA set (p = 0.256 for 5-year OS, p = 0.034 for 15-month OS). Univariate and multivariate Cox regression analysis, together with survival analysis of the interaction between TIP and other variables, confirmed TIP to be a significant and independent prognostic factor for OS of ESCC. The incorporation of TIP into the TNM staging system could improve the accuracy of prognosis prediction for ESCC. CONCLUSION: This study revealed that high TIP in ESCC was associated with positive regulation of adaptive immunity and anti-tumor activity.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: This study aims to test whether Cordyceps sinensis (CS), the most expensive Asian nutrient supplement might stimulate growth of prostate cancer cells. METHODS: Impact of CS on growth of prostate cancer was determined in vivo and in vitro. RESULTS: Firstly, the serum testosterone level was significantly elevated in mice fed CS. Prostate glands were significantly enlarged (weight index 0.53 ± 0.04 mg/g vs. 0.31 ± 0.04 mg/g, P = 0.006). Furthermore, cell viability was increased twofold in the androgen-responsive prostate cancer cell line (VCaP) after CS treatment. This promoting effect disappeared after bicalutamide was added. In addition, serum prostate-specific antigen (PSA) in mice bearing VCaP xenografts was significantly elevated (0.66 ± 0.04 ng/ml vs. 0.26 ± 0.06 ng/ml, P < 0.001) after treatment with CS. Finally, VCaP tumors in mice treated with CS grew much faster (479.2 ± 78.74 mm3 vs. 283 ± 58.97 mm3, P = 0.074). However, the above promoting effects of CS were not observed in parallel studies using the PC-3 cell line which lacks AR expression. CONCLUSIONS: These results suggest that CS promotes growth of prostate cancer cells by increasing production of testosterone and stimulating the AR-dependent pathway. Additional studies are required to see whether CS is safely consumed by patients with prostate cancer.

RESUMO

Tumor cells have higher rates of glucose uptake and aerobic glycolysis to meet energy demands for proliferation and metastasis. The characteristics of increased glucose uptake, accompanied with aerobic glycolysis, has been exploited for the diagnosis of cancers. Although much progress has been made, the mechanisms regulating tumor aerobic glycolysis and energy production are still not fully understood. Here, we demonstrate that Pim-2 is required for glycolysis and energy production in colorectal tumor cells. Our results show that Pim-2 is highly expressed in colorectal tumor cells, and may be induced by nutrient stimulation. Activation of Pim-2 in colorectal cells led to increase glucose utilization and aerobic glycolysis, as well as energy production. While knockdown of Pim-2 decreased energy production in colorectal tumor cells and increased their susceptibility to apoptosis. Moreover, the effects of Pim-2 kinase on aerobic glycolysis seem to be partly dependent on mTORC1 signaling, because inhibition of mTORC1 activity reversed the aerobic glycolysis mediated by Pim-2. Our findings suggest that Pim-2-mediated aerobic glycolysis is critical for monitoring Warburg effect in colorectal tumor cells, highlighting Pim-2 as a potential metabolic target for colorectal tumor therapy.

RESUMO

In diesel-ignited natural gas marine dual-fuel engines, the pilot diesel injection timing (PDIT) determines the premixing time and ignition moment of the combustible mixture in the cylinder. The PDIT plays a crucial role in the subsequent development of natural gas flame combustion. In this paper, four PDITs (- 8 °CA, - 6 °CA, - 4 °CA, and - 2 °CA) were studied. The results show that the advancement of PDIT increased the engine's power, thermal efficiency, and natural gas flame spread velocity, and increased NO emissions and CH4 emissions of the marine engine. The PDIT affected the ignition delay period and the rapid combustion period to a greater extent than the slow combustion period and the post combustion period. With each 2 °CA advancement of PDIT, the engine's power increased by 69.87 kW, thermal efficiency increased by 0.42%, radial flame spread velocity increased by 2 m/s, axial flame spread velocity increased by 1.7 m/s, NO emissions increased by 6.1%, and CH4 emissions increased by 3.75%.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: We attempted to identify abnormal immune cell components and signaling pathways in lupus nephritis (LN) and to identify potential therapeutic targets. METHODS: Differentially expressed genes (DEGs) between LN and normal kidney tissues were identified from bulk transcriptome data, and functional annotation was performed. The phenotypic changes in macrophages and aberrant intercellular signaling communications within immune cells were imputed from LN scRNA-seq data using trajectory analysis and verified using immunofluorescence staining. Finally, lentivirus-mediated overexpression of LGALS9, the gene encoding Galectin 9, in THP-1 cells was used to study the functional effect of this gene on monocytic cells. RESULTS: From bulk transcriptome data, a significant activation of interferon (IFN) signaling was observed, and its intensity showed a significantly positive correlation with the abundance of infiltrating macrophages in LN. Analysis of scRNA-seq data revealed 17 immune cell clusters, with macrophages showing the highest enrichment of intercellular signal communication in LN. Trajectory analysis revealed macrophages in LN undergo a phenotypic change from inflammatory patrolling macrophages to phagocytic and then to antigen-presenting macrophages, and secrete various pro-inflammatory factors and complement components. LGALS9 was found significantly upregulated in macrophages in LN, which was confirmed by the immunofluorescence assay. Gene functional study showed that LGALS9 overexpression in THP-1 cells significantly elicited pro-inflammatory activation, releasing multiple immune cell chemoattractants. CONCLUSION: Our results present an important pathophysiological role for macrophages in LN, and our preliminary results demonstrate significant pro-inflammatory effects of LGALS9 gene in LN macrophages.

RESUMO

The scavenging process significantly affects the combustion and emission performance of marine low-speed two-stroke dual-fuel engines. Optimizing scavenging air pressure and temperature can enhance the engine's combustion efficiency and emission control performance, thereby achieving more environmentally friendly and efficient operation of dual-fuel engines. This study focuses on marine low-speed two-stroke dual-fuel engines, analyzing the effects of scavenging air pressure (3.0 bar, 3.25 bar, 3.5 bar, and 3.75 bar) and scavenging air temperature (293 K, 303 K, and 313 K) on engine performance and emission products. The results indicate that scavenging air pressure has a greater impact on engine performance than scavenging air temperature. An increase in scavenging air pressure leads to higher thermal efficiency and power. As the scavenging air pressure increases from 3 to 3.75 bar, the indicated thermal efficiency (ITE) increases from 44.02 to 53.26%, and indicated mean effective pressure (IMEP) increases by approximately 0.35 MPa. Increased scavenging air pressure improves nitrogen oxide (NOx) and hydrocarbons (HC) emissions. For every 0.25 bar increase in scavenging air pressure, NOx emissions decrease by 3.53%, HC emissions decrease by 33.35%, while carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions increase by 0.71%. An increase in scavenging air temperature leads to lower ITE and IMEP. As the air temperature changes from 293 to 313 K, the ITE decreases by approximately 1%, and IMEP decreases by about 0.04 MPa. Increased scavenging air temperature improves CO2 emissions. For every 10 K increase in the air temperature, the CO2 emissions decrease by 0.02%, while NOx emissions increase by 4.84%, HC emissions increase by 34.39%. Therefore, controlling scavenging air pressure is more important than scavenging air temperature in the operational management of marine two-stroke engines. Higher power and lower NOx and HC emissions can be achieved by increasing the scavenging air pressure.

RESUMO

Importance: Peceleganan spray is a novel topical antimicrobial agent targeted for the treatment of skin wound infections. However, its efficacy and safety remain unclear. Objective: To assess the safety and efficacy of peceleganan spray for the treatment of wound infections. Design, Setting, and Participants: This multicenter, open-label, phase 3 randomized clinical trial recruited and followed up 570 adult patients diagnosed with secondary open wound infections from 37 hospitals in China from August 23, 2021, to July 16, 2022. Interventions: Patients were randomized to 2 groups with a 2:1 allocation. One group received treatment with 2% peceleganan spray (n = 381) and the other with 1% silver sulfadiazine (SSD) cream (n = 189). Main Outcomes and Measures: The primary efficacy outcome was the clinical efficacy rate (the number of patients fulfilling the criteria for efficacy of the number of patients receiving the treatment) on the first day following the end of treatment (day 8). The secondary outcomes included the clinical efficacy rate on day 5 and the bacterial clearance rate (cases achieving negative bacteria cultures after treatment of all cases with positive bacteria cultures before treatment) on days 5 and 8. The safety outcomes included patients' vital signs, physical examination results, electrocardiographic findings, blood test results, and adverse reactions. Results: Among the 570 patients randomized to 1 of the 2 groups, 375 (98.4%) in the 2% peceleganan treatment group and 183 (96.8%) in the 1% SSD control group completed the trial (n = 558). Of these, 361 (64.7%) were men, and the mean (SD) age was 48.6 (15.3) years. The demographic characteristics were similar between groups. On day 8, clinical efficacy was achieved by 339 patients (90.4%) in the treatment group and 144 (78.7%) in the control group (P < .001). On day 5, clinical efficacy was achieved by 222 patients (59.2%) in the treatment group and 90 (49.2%) in the control group (P = .03). On day 8, bacterial clearance was achieved by 80 of 334 patients (24.0%) in the treatment group and in 75 of 163 (46.0%) in the control group (P < .001). On day 5, bacterial clearance was achieved by 55 of 334 patients (16.5%) in the treatment group and 50 of 163 (30.7%) in the control group (P < .001). The adverse events related to the application of peceleganan spray and SSD cream were similar. Conclusions and Relevance: This randomized clinical trial found that peceleganan spray is a safe topical antimicrobial agent with a satisfactory clinical efficacy rate for the treatment of skin wound infections, while the effectiveness of bacterial clearance remains uncertain. Trial Registration: Chinese Clinical Trial Registry Identifier: ChiCTR2100047202.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To assess the long-term effect and safety of non-occlusive intra-vas device (IVD) for male contraception in comparison with no-scalpel vasectomy (NSV). METHODS: We conducted a follow-up investigation on 100 males who had received IVD and another 50 who had undergone NSV 6 years before. We compared the rates of sperm absence and complications between the two groups. RESULTS: Follow-up visits were successfully performed on 95 males (95%) of the IVD group and 44 (88%) of the NSV group. Pregnancy was not found in any of the cases. Spermatozoa (> or = 5 x 10(6)/ml) were not detected in 87 cases (91.58%) in the IVD group and in 44 cases (95.45%) in the NSV group, with no significant differences between the two groups (P > 0.05). The rate of postoperative complications in the IVD group (11.58%) showed no significant difference from that of the NSV group (4.55%) (P > 0.05). CONCLUSION: IVD is as effective and safe as NSV for male contraception.

RESUMO

This paper proposes an optimal resource allocation method. The method is to maximize the Energy Efficiency (EE) for an Energy Harvesting (EH) enabled underlay Cognitive Radio (CR) network. First, we assumed the Secondary Users (SUs) can harvest energy from the surrounding Radio Frequency (RF) signals. Then, we modelled the EE maximisation problem as a joint time and power optimization model. Next, the optimal EH time allocation factor can be calculated. After that the optimal power allocation strategy can be obtain by the fractional programming and Lagrange multiplier method. Finally simulation results show that the proposed iterative method can be better performance advantages compared with the exhaustive method and genetic algorithm. And the EE of this system model is significantly improved compared to the EE model without considering EH.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: LncRNA PART1 has been confirmed related to multiple cancer bioactivities mediated with vascular endothelial growth factor signaling. Nevertheless, the role of LncRNA PART1 in esophageal cancer induced angiogenesis remains unclear. The present work focused on assessing LncRNA PART1 effects on esophageal cancer-induced angiogenesis and exploring possible mechanisms. METHODS: Western blot and immunofluorescence were conducted for identifying EC9706 exosomes. MiR-302a-3p and LncRNA PART1 levels were assessed by real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction. Cell Counting Kit-8, EdU, wound healing, transwell, and tubule information were adopted for detecting human umbilical vein endothelial cell viability, proliferation, migration, invasion, and tubule information, respectively. Starbase software and dual-luciferase reporter were conducted for predicting and judging the expression interrelation of LncRNA PART1 and its potential target-miR-302a-3p. The same methods were carried out for verifying the inhibiting influences of miR-302a-3p upregulation and its potential target-cell division cycle 25 A. RESULTS: LncRNA PART1 levels were upregulated and related to the overall survival of patients in esophageal cancer. EC9706-Exos accelerated human umbilical vein endothelial cell proliferation, migration, invasion, and tubule formation via LncRNA PART1. LncRNA PART1 served as a sponge of miR-302a-3p, then miR-302a-3p targeted cell division cycle 25 A, and EC9706-Exos accelerated human umbilical vein endothelial cell angiogenesis via LncRNA PART1/ miR-302a-3p/cell division cycle 25 A axis. CONCLUSION: EC9706-Exos accelerates human umbilical vein endothelial cell angiogenesis via LncRNA PART1/miR-302a-3p/ cell division cycle 25 A axis, indicating EC9706-Exos may act as a promoter of angiogenesis. Our research will contribute to clarify the mechanism of tumor angiogenesis.

RESUMO

To enhance the probiotics' viability, novel vehicles consisting of synthetic/natural biopolymers, i.e., polyvinyl alcohol (PVOH), polyvinylpyrrolidone, whey protein concentrate and maltodextrin, encapsulated with L. plantarum KLDS 1.0328 and gum arabic (GA) as a prebiotic were fabricated by electrohydrodynamic techniques. Inclusion of cells into composites caused an increase in conductivity and viscosity. Morphological analysis showed that cells were distributed along the electrospun nanofibres or distributed randomly in the electrosprayed microcapsules. Both intramolecular and intermolecular hydrogen bond interactions exist between biopolymers and cells. Thermal analysis revealed that the degradation temperatures (>300 °C) of various encapsulation systems have potential applications in heat-treatment foods. Additionally, cells especially immobilized in PVOH/GA electrospun nanofibres showed the highest viability compared with free cells after exposure to simulated gastrointestinal stress. Furthermore, cells retained their antimicrobial ability after rehydration of the composite matrices. Therefore, electrohydrodynamic techniques have great potential in encapsulating probiotics.

RESUMO

Severe endometrial injury caused by invasive uterine operation and/or endometritis often results in intrauterine adhesions (IUAs), which are named Asherman's syndrome (AS), further leading to menstrual disorders, infertility and severe complications during pregnancy and delivery. IUAs or AS has been a challenging medical problem. Stem cells are a promising therapeutic modality for endometrial regeneration in patients with refractory AS. Here, we developed a new system of adipose-derived mesenchymal stem cells (ADMSCs) implantation on silk fibroin/polycaprolactone (SF/PCL) electrospun nanofibers (ADMSCs-SF/PCL) and used it in the damaged endometrium of a rat model. After SF/PCL enhanced the proliferation of transplanted ADMSCs, the results showed that the ADMSCs-SF/PCL system could recover morphology, promote regeneration of the glands and angiogenesis by increasing CD31 expression, and reverse endometrial fibrosis by decreasing TGF-ß/Smad expression. In addition, the ADMSCs-SF/PCL system also increased the expression of differentiation and decidualization markers, including HOXA11, HAND2 and FOXO1. Most importantly, the ADMSCs-SF/PCL system could remodel the special immune microenvironment, resulting in dominant NK infiltration and a normal Th1/Th2 bias in the endometrium. Moreover, this treatment had a lower but more persistent effect than estrogen. Thus, the ADMSCs-SF/PCL system enhanced endometrial restoration, suggesting a promising strategy for damaged endometrial regeneration and immune microenvironment remodeling.

RESUMO

Hormone-refractory prostate cancer shows substantial resistance to most conventional therapies including radiotherapy, constitutes a key impediment to curing patients with the disease. c-Met overexpression plays a key role in prostate cancer tumorigenesis and disease progression. Here, we demonstrate that c-Met inhibition by SU11274 could significantly suppress cell survival and proliferation as well as enhance the radiosensitivity of DU145 cells. The underlying mechanisms of the effects of SU11274 on DU145 cells may include the inhibition of c-Met signaling, depolarization of the mitochondrial membrane potential, impairment of DNA repair function, abrogation of cell cycle arrest, and enhancement of cell death. Our study is the first to show the effectiveness of combining c-Met inhibition with ionizing radiation to cure hormone-refractory prostate cancer.

RESUMO

The sealing ring of the external floating roof tank is prone to petroleum gas leakage due to material aging and oil corrosion. Petroleum gas leakage and diffusion easily accumulate above the floating deck. When it is within the explosion limit range, there will be the risk of explosion and fire. To deal with the explosion accident of storage tank caused by the concentration distribution of petroleum gas leakage for the sealing ring, and to study the influence of petroleum gas diffusion and concentration distribution after sealing ring leakage on the control area above the floating deck in the tank farm environment, this paper established numerical models of sealing ring leakage under different liquid level heights for 10 × 104 m3 external floating roof tank. Through numerical calculation, it is found that the diffusion concentration of petroleum gas is related to the wind speed, the range of the control area above the floating deck, and leakage when sealing rings leak at different liquid levels. Through dimensionless analysis, the functional relationship of gas leakage diffusion concentration distribution under different liquid level heights of external floating roof tank sealing rings is verified by numerical calculation results. The results show that the numerical results are consistent with those predicted by the formula.

RESUMO

To investigate the effects of different binding modes on the structure, function, and digestive properties of the phosvitin (Pv) and gallic acid (GA) complex, Pv was covalently and noncovalently combined with different concentrations of GA (0.5, 1.5, and 2.5 mM). The structural characterization of the two Pv-GA complexes was performed by Fourier transform infrared, circular dichroism, and LC-MS/MS to investigate the covalent and noncovalent binding of Pv and GA. In addition, the microstructure of the two Pv-GA complexes was investigated by super-resolution microscopy and transmission electron microscopy. The particle size and zeta potential results showed that the addition of GA increased the particle size and the absolute potential of Pv. The determination of protein digestibility, polyphenol content, SH and S-S group levels, sodium dodecyl sulfate-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis, and antioxidant capacity of the digests indicated that noncovalent complexes had greater antioxidant and protective effects on polyphenols. Molecular docking revealed that GA was conjugated with Pv through hydrogen bond interactions.
