RESUMO

As a plant-specific endoreplication regulator, the SIAMESE-RELATED (SMR) family (a cyclin-dependent kinase inhibitor) plays an important role in plant growth and development and resistance to stress. Although the genes of the maize (Zea mays) SMR family have been studied extensively, the ZmSMR10 (Zm00001eb231280) gene has not been reported. In this study, the function of this gene was characterized by overexpression and silencing. Compared with the control, the transgenic plants exhibited the phenotypes of early maturation, dwarfing, and drought resistance. Expression of the protein in prokaryotes demonstrates that ZmSMR10 is a small protein, and the results of subcellular localization suggest that it travels functionally in the nucleus. Unlike ZmSMR4, yeast two-hybrid experiments demonstrated that ZmSMR10 does not interact strongly with with some cell cycle protein-dependent protein kinase (CDK) family members ZmCDKA;1/ZmCDKA;3/ZmCDKB1;1. Instead, it interacts strongly with ZmPCNA2 and ZmCSN5B. Based on these results, we concluded that ZmSMR10 is involved in the regulation of endoreplication through the interaction of ZmPCNA2 and ZmCSN5B. These findings provide a theoretical basis to understand the mechanism of the regulation of endoreplication and improve the yield of maize through the use of molecular techniques.

RESUMO

The energetics of the regioselective mononitration of 9,10-BN-naphthalene with acetyl nitrate (H3C2NO4) were modeled with ab initio simulations in the gas phase and an acetonitrile solvent. The single-electron-transfer (SET) nitration mechanism leading to a σ-complex and a single-step nitration mechanism were modeled. The energy barrier for the single-step mechanism was lower than that for the SET mechanism in the gas phase. However, the two are much more energetically competitive in the solvent. The σ-complex was found to be unstable in the gas phase owing to the interaction with the counterion. Using the single-step mechanism, the carbon site 1 nearest boron had the lowest activation energy for nitration of 22.6 kcal/mol, while site 3 had the second lowest barrier of 24.6 kcal/mol. Details on the molecular structures at intermediate and transition states as well as charges in different configurations are discussed.

RESUMO

Mono- and dinitro-BN-naphthalenes, i.e., 1-nitro-, 3-nitro-, 1,6-dinitro-, 3,6-dinitro-, and 1,8-dinitro-BNN, were generated in the nitration of 9,10-BN-naphthalene (BNN), a boron-nitrogen (BN) bond-embedded naphthalene, with AcONO2 and NO2BF4 in acetonitrile. The nitrated products were isolated and characterized by NMR, GC-MS, IR, and X-ray single crystallography. The effects of the nitration on the electron density and aromaticity of BNN were evaluated by B-11 NMR analysis and HOMA calculations.

RESUMO

Dinitroacetylene and other nitroacetylenes are attractive stoichiometric precursors to high energy-density materials, but suffer from high reactivity and thermal instability. Herein, we report that nitroacetylenes can be dramatically stabilized in the form of their dicobalt hexacarbonyl complexes. In particular, we describe the syntheses and characterization of the first two transition-metal complexes of nitroalkynes, [µ-1-nitro-2-(trimethylsilyl)ethyne-1,2-diyl]bis(tricarbonylcobalt)(Co-Co) and [µ-1-nitroethyne-1,2-diyl]bis(tricarbonylcobalt)(Co-Co). The chemistry of these compounds reveals their potential as reaction partners in [2+2+2] cyclotrimerizations, furnishing nitroindane, nitrotetralin, and trinitrobenzene products. The X-ray crystal structure of 1,3,5-trinitro-2,4,6-tris(trimethylsilyl)benzene presents a distorted, yet planar, aromatic ring.

RESUMO

ABSTRACT: The effects of a new edible sodium alginate (SA) coating incorporating cinnamon essential oil nanocapsules (CEO-NPs) and nisin were investigated with beef slices in refrigerated storage for 15 days. All beef samples were analyzed for physicochemical properties (pH, weight loss, and total volatile base nitrogen) and antimicrobial activity against total bacteria. Changes in color parameters and sensory attributes of all beef samples also were evaluated. Incorporation of the complex of CEO-NPs and nisin into the SA coating retarded the growth of microorganisms and reduced lipid oxidation, as determined by pH, total volatile base nitrogen, and total bacteria counts. This treatment also extended the shelf life of beef slices to 15 days. The SA coating with CEO-NPs and nisin significantly reduced weight loss and improved color, odor, texture, and purge quality of the beef samples. These results suggest that treatment with the SA coating enriched with CEO-NPs and nisin can significantly retard the deterioration of beef slices, and the complex of CEO-NPs and nisin can improve antioxidant, antibacterial, and sensory properties of the SA coating. This new edible coating could be useful for preserving beef slices.
