RESUMO

Ratiometric luminescent thermometers with excellent performance often require the luminescent materials to possess high thermal stability and relative sensitivity (Sr). However, such luminescent materials are very rare, especially in physiological (298-323 K) and high-temperature (>373 K) regions. Here we report the synthesis and luminescent property of [Tb0.995Eu0.005(pfbz)2(phen)Cl] (3), which not only exhibits high Sr in physiological temperature but also has a Sr up to 7.47% K-1 at 440 K, the largest Sr at 440 K in known lanthanide-based coordination compound luminescent materials.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To investigate right aortic arches (RAA) quantitatively and risk-stratify fetuses with RAA prenatally. METHOD: A total of 143 singleton fetuses were enrolled. Four measurements were studied, including the angle and distance between the aortic arch (AO) and ductal arch (DA), the diameters of the AO and DA, and the distance growth rate (DGR). RESULT: A significant increase in mean distance was observed in the study group (4.89 ± 1.07 mm) compared to the control group (1.62 ± 0.33 mm, p<.01). The distance increased from the second (1.52 ± 0.35 mm, p<.01, 4.06 ± 0.78 mm, p<.01) to third trimester (1.71 ± 0.29 mm, p<.01, 5.13 ± 1.10 mm, p<.01) in the normal and study groups. Fetuses with abnormalities in addition to RAAs had significantly lower growth rates (12.4 ± 5.2%) than those with an isolated RAA (33.7 ± 12.0%). CONCLUSION: Parameters, especially DGR, may be clinically significant. DGR may be restricted when an RAA exists with other malformations. Decreasing DGR in fetuses with RAAs suggests the presence of other malformations.

RESUMO

Optical thin films with high-reflectivity (HR) are essential for applications in quantum precision measurements. In this work, we propose a coating technique based on reactive magnetron sputtering with RF-induced substrate bias to fabricate HR-optical thin films. First, atomically flat SiO2 and Ta2O5 layers have been demonstrated due to the assistance of radio-frequency plasma during the coating process. Second, a distributed Bragg reflector (DBR) mirror with an HR of ∼99.999 328% centered at 1397 nm has been realized. The DBR structure is air-H{LH}19-substrate, in which the L and H denote a single layer of SiO2 with a thickness of 237.8 nm and a single layer of Ta2O5 with a thickness of 171.6 nm, respectively. This novel coating method would facilitate the development of HR reflectors and promote their wide applications in precision measurements.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Lupus mesenteric vasculitis (LMV) is a serious condition that may occur as an acute manifestation of gastrointestinal (GI) involvement and is not easily diagnosed by physicians. Delayed diagnosis and treatment of LMV may lead to rapid disease progression and can be life threatening. CASE SUMMARY: A previously healthy 27-year-old woman presented with abdominal pain following a history of fatigue and consumption of cold water. Laboratory investigations, physical examinations, and enhanced abdominal computed tomography (CT) suggested systemic lupus erythematosus complicated by LMV. She received treatments, such as GI decompression, somatostatin, glucocorticoids, and immunosuppressants, and was evaluated using color ultrasonography. Twenty days later, the patient reported no stomach discomfort and was able to consume semi-liquid food. Laboratory investigations showed that inflammatory factors decreased to normal levels and complement levels increased slightly. One year after discharged, she recovered with methylprednisolone being tapered to 4 mg per day, mycophenolate mofetil to 0.75 g bid, and hydroxychloroquine to 0.2 g bid; however, only C3 complement level was slightly below the normal level. CONCLUSION: Early diagnosis of LMV is essential for successful treatment; this depends on a combination of clinical manifestations, laboratory investigations, and imaging findings. Enhanced CT is preferred, but ultrasonography can be used for prompt screening and follow-up.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Isolated pulmonary valve endocarditis (IPE) is rare, accounting for 1.5-2% of all cases of infective endocarditis. Herein, we describe a case of isolated pulmonary valve endocarditis with rapid progression in a 28-year-old male. Unlike most patients reported previously who were cured with only anti-infective therapy, without surgery at an early stage, multiple complications occurred in this patient in less than 2 weeks. CASE PRESENTATION: The patient was diagnosed with pulmonary valve endocarditis with blood cultures showing Staphylococcus aureus and echocardiography revealing 2 masses (measuring 14*13 mm、11*16 mm in size). Only 12 days later, acute massive pulmonary embolism occurred. Then, repeated echocardiography revealed multiple masses attached to the pulmonary valve with severe pulmonary insufficiency and the possibility of pulmonary valve destruction. Finally, pulmonary valve replacement, vegetation removal, and right pulmonary thromboendarterectomy together with resection of the middle and lower lobes of the right lung were performed. CONCLUSIONS: The role of surgery at an early stage might need to be reconsidered, and it may be viable to combine medical and surgical approaches.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To establish a reference range and compare differences among three methods, and then to construct Z-score reference ranges in normal fetuses from the three methods to provide an extra tool for fetal conduction time assessment. METHODS: A total of 227 echocardiographic examinations were finally included. Fetal atrioventricular (AV) time and ventriculoatrial (VA) time intervals were measured by three methods: superior vena cava/ascending aorta (SVC/AAO), pulmonary artery/pulmonary vein (PA/PV) and tissue Doppler imaging (TDI). Regression analysis of the mean and standard deviation was performed to establish Z-scores. RESULTS: With the three methods, positive correlations of intervals with gestational age (GA) and fetal heart rate (FHA) were observed, while intervals were negatively correlated with fetal heart rate (FHR). Correlations between VA/AV and GA, FHA and FHR were weak. The general trend of all intervals was towards an increase. In AV intervals, PA/PV revealed the longest mean AV time interval and SVC/AAO showed the shortest interval. In addition, PA/PV revealed the shortest VA interval. CONCLUSION: This study presents not only the reference range of AV and VA intervals with the three methods but also the Z-score reference ranges for these indices against GA and FHA in normal fetuses. Each method has a different reference range, and appropriate application can facilitate diagnosis and treatment.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Polyacrylamide hydrogel (PAAG) injections were once common in breast augmentation and have been prohibited for augmentation mammaplasty in China since a large number of patients who underwent breast augmentation with PAAG injections have continued to seek medical advice as a result of related complications. Among all these complications, distant migration is relatively rare. CASE SUMMARY: A 49-year-old female presented at the hospital with a one-year history of a vulvar lump. The sonography of the lump showed several subcutaneous fluid-filled regions from the left vulva to the pubic symphysis, which suggested possible fat liquefaction. An enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) revealed a cystic area, which was considered a benign lesion. Intraoperative observations showed that the mass did not have an obvious capsule, the subcutaneous tissue presented as a cavity, and some yellow material came out of this cavity. A culture of the drainage did not show bacterial contamination. Histopathology revealed a foreign body granuloma. After resection and closed drainage, lumps were successively observed in the left lower abdomen and the bilateral hypochondriac region with infections. Sonography found that the hypoechoic areas in the bilateral hypochondriac region seemed continuous with deep in the breasts. The patient reported that she had undergone surgery with PAAG injections 20 years ago after she was repeatedly asked about her past history. Finally, a diagnosis of distant migration of PAAG was made. CONCLUSION: PAAG gel can migrate after long periods of time. A diagnosis should not be limited to the area where the symptom develops.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVES: To investigate the clinical effect and therapeutic mechanism of Nanmiqing capsule made of rheum palmatum, leech, astragalus memberanaceus on patients with chronic prostatitis(CP). METHODS: Seventy-six CP cases were treated with Nanmiqing, while 32 CP cases were treated with Qianliekang as a control. The changes of EPS were observed pre- and post-treatment. The rat model of CP got by Xiaozhiling inducing were treated with Nanmiqing and Qianliekang respectively. The concentration of endothelin, TXB2, 6-keto-PGF1 alpha and SOD, IgG, IgA in plasma were measured pre- and post-treatment, meanwhile, pathological changes of prostate tissues were observed. RESULTS: The total effective rate was 89.47% in treatment group, which was significantly higher than 71.88% in the control group (P < 0.01). Experimental study for CP rats showed that the Nanmiqing was more effective medicine than Qianliekang (P < 0.01). CONCLUSIONS: Nanmiqing was an effective medicine for CP. The mechanism of clearing heat and resolving toxin, activating blood and removing stasis and reinforcing Qi in chinese medicine could be the explanation of the useful treatment including three therapentic ways.
