RESUMO

The miniaturization of biomedical microrobots is crucial for their in vivo applications. However, it is challenging to reduce their size while maintaining their biomedical functions. To resolve this contradiction, we propose a semiphysical design concept for developing miniaturized microrobots, in which invisible components such as light beams are utilized to replace most of the physical parts of a microrobot, thus minimizing its physical size without sacrificing its biomedical functions. According to this design, we have constructed a semiphysical microrobot (SPM) composed of main light beam, light-responsive microparticle, and auxiliary light beam, serving as the actuation system, recognition part, and surgical claws, respectively. Based on the functions of actuation, biosensing, and microsurgery, a SPM has been applied for a series of applications, including thrombus elimination at the branch vessel, stratified removal of multilayer thrombus, and biosensing-guided microsurgery. The proposed semiphysical design concept should bring new insight into the development of miniaturized biomedical microrobots.

BACKGROUND: Lymphoma has become 1 of the 10 most common cancers with increased prevalence in young- and middle-aged adults in China. This poses a tremendous burden on patients and their families and brings great challenges to maintaining the balance of family functioning in young- and middle-aged patients. OBJECTIVE: This cross-sectional study aimed to analyse the influence of resourcefulness on the family functioning of Chinese young- and middle-aged lymphoma patients. METHODS: A total of 172 Chinese young- and middle-aged patients with lymphoma were recruited from the oncology departments of two tertiary hospitals in Zhengzhou, Henan, China. They were invited to complete a survey that included a demographic questionnaire, the Resourcefulness Scale and the Chinese Version Family Adaptability and Cohesion Scale II. Multiple linear regression was used to analyse the related factors for family functioning. RESULTS: The multiple regression analysis revealed that the main influencing factors of family cohesion were resourcefulness (ß = 0.338, 95% CI (0.072, 0.173)), spouse caregiver (ß = 0.376, 95% CI (1.938, 10.395)), and cancer stage (ß = -0.274, 95% CI (-3.219, -1.047)). Resourcefulness (ß = 0.438, 95% CI (0.096, 0.181)), spouse caregiver (ß = 0.340, 95% CI (1.348, 8.363)), and family per capita monthly income (ß = 0.157, 95% CI (0.066, 2.243)) were the influencing factors of family adaptability. CONCLUSIONS: Healthcare professionals and family scholars should value young- and middle-aged lymphoma patients' family functioning throughout the cancer treatment process, and family interventions should be designed by healthcare providers based on patients' resourcefulness. Moreover, healthcare providers need to pay attention to the risk factors of patients' family cohesion and adaptability, such as low family per capita monthly income, and consider employing corresponding measures to help them.

PURPOSE: To evaluate whether traditional mind-body movement therapy (TMBM) can be used as a complementary or alternative therapy for exercise-based cardiopulmonary rehabilitation (EBCR) on chronic cardiopulmonary dyspnoea. METHODS: PubMed, Embase, Scopus, Web of Science and China National Knowledge Infrastructure were searched from their inception to 2 July 2021. Randomised clinical trials evaluating the effectiveness of TMBM versus EBCR, and TMBM +EBCR versus TMBM in the treatment of chronic cardiopulmonary dyspnoea were selected. The outcomes were exercise capacity (6 min walk distance, 6MWD) and quality of life (QoL). RESULTS: Thirty-four randomised clinical trials with 2456 patients were included. For TMBM vs EBCR alone, statistically significant improvements in the 6MWD favoured the TMBM for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) (mean difference(MD)=12.22 m; 95% CI 5.94 to 18.50; I2=56%) and heart failure (HF) patients (MD=43.65 m; 95% CI 7.91 to 79.38; I2=0%). Statistically significant improvements in QoL also favoured TMBM over EBCR for patients with HF(MD=-9.19; 95% CI -11.05 to -7.32; I2=0%) but non-significant trend for COPD (standardised mean difference (SMD)=-0.31; 95% CI -0.62 to 0.01; I2=78%). Comparisons of TMBM +EBCR versus EBCR alone revealed significant improvements in the QoL for COPD (SMD=-0.52; 95% CI -0.94 to -0.10; I2=86%) and patients with HF (MD=-2.82; 95% CI -4.99 to -0.64; I2=0%). The 6MWD results favoured the TMBM +EBCR for patients with COPD (MD=16.76 m; 95% CI 10.24 to 23.29; I2=0%), but only showed a slight trend towards additional benefits of TMBM +EBCR in the HF studies (MD=13.77 m; 95% CI -1.01 to 28.54; I2=65%) . CONCLUSIONS: TMBM has positive effects on patients' 6MWD and QoL, with similar or even better effects than EBCR. It may be beneficial to use TMBM as a supplementary or alternative strategy for EBCR in treatment plans. PROSPERO REGISTRATION NUMBER: CRD42021241181.

Acute kidney injury (AKI) has become a growing issue for patients with the extensive use of all kinds of drugs in clinic. Photoacoustic (PA) imaging provides a noninvasive and real-time imaging method for studying kidney injury, but it has inherent shortages in terms of high background signal and low detection sensitivity for exogenous imaging agents. Intriguingly, J-aggregation offers to tune the optical properties of the dyes, thus providing a platform for developing new PA probes with desired performance. In this study, a small-molecule PA probe (BDP-3) was designed and synthesized. We serendipitously discovered that BDP-3 can transform into renal clearable nanoaggregates under physiological conditions. The hydrodynamic diameter of the BDP-3 increased from 0.64 ± 0.11 to 3.74 ± 0.39 nm when the content of H2O increased from 40 to 90%. In addition, it was surprising that such a transforming process can significantly enhance its PA amplitude (2.06-fold). On this basis, PA imaging with BDP-3 was applied as a new method for the noninvasive detection of AKI induced by anticancer drugs, traditional Chinese medicine, and clinical contrast agents in animal models and exhibited higher sensitivity than the conventional serum index test, demonstrating great potential for further clinical diagnostic applications.

BACKGROUND: Community solidarity is increasingly important in public health. However, few studies have examined solidarity in relation to health outcomes. The purpose of this study was to develop a psychometric tool to measure solidarity among Chinese men who have sex with men (MSM) and assess whether community solidarity relates to differences in sexually transmitted infection testing. METHODS: We used data from the pay-it-forward randomized controlled trial of 301 men from Beijing and Guangzhou, China. Men who have sex with men were randomized into pay-it-forward (participants receive free gonorrhea/chlamydia testing as gifts and choose to donate toward subsequent MSM's tests), pay-what you-want, and standard payment arms. After testing decision, participants completed a cross-sectional questionnaire to assess community solidarity. Factor analysis was conducted to identify dimensions of solidarity. The solidarity factors were compared across study arms and assessed against gonorrhea/chlamydia test uptake in multivariable logistic regression. RESULTS: Two hundred eighty-eight participants responded to the survey. We identified 3 latent community solidarity factors: engagement, social network support, and sense of belonging. Several items related to belonging were significantly greater among participants in the pay-it-forward scenario compared with those assigned to other scenarios. Higher sense of belonging was associated with higher odds of gonorrhea and chlamydia test uptake. CONCLUSIONS: Community solidarity among MSM in China can be characterized by 3 factors: engagement, social network support, and sense of belonging. Sense of belonging was higher in the pay-it-forward intervention arm and may be associated with the uptake of gonorrhea/chlamydia test. Future studies are warranted to confirm the psychometric structure of community solidarity and further investigate behavioral mechanisms of pay it forward.

The profiling of small extracellular vesicle-associated microRNAs (sEV-miRNAs) plays a vital role in cancer diagnosis and monitoring. However, detecting sEV-miRNAs with low expression in clinical samples remains challenging. Herein, we propose a novel electrochemical biosensor using localized DNA tetrahedron-assisted catalytic hairpin assembly (LDT-CHA) for sEV-miRNA determination. The LDT-CHA contained localized DNA tetrahedrons with CHA substrates, leveraging an efficient localized reaction to enable sensitive and rapid sEV-miRNA measurement. Based on the LDT-CHA, the proposed platform can quantitatively detect sEV-miRNA down to 25 aM in 30 min with outstanding specificity. For accurate diagnosis of gastric cancer patients, a combination of LDT-CHA and a panel of four sEV-miRNAs (sEV-miR-1246, sEV-miR-21, sEV-miR-183-5P, and sEV-miR-142-5P) was employed in a gastric cancer cohort. Compared with diagnosis with single sEV-miRNA, the proposed platform demonstrated a higher accuracy of 88.3% for early gastric tumor diagnoses with higher efficiency (AUC: 0.883) and great potential for treatment monitoring. Thus, this study provides a promising method for the bioanalysis and determination of the clinical applications of LDT-CHA.

Head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) is one of the most common cancers worldwide. We aimed to identify potential genetic markers that could predict the prognosis of HNSCC. A total of 44 samples of GSE83519 from Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) datasets and 546 samples of HNSCC from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) were adopted. The differently expressed genes (DEGs) of the samples were screened by GEO2R. We integrated the expression information of DEGs with clinical data from GES42743 using the weighted gene co-expression network analysis (WGCNA). A total of 17 hub genes were selected by the module membership (|MM| > 0.8), and the gene significance (|GS| > 0.3) was selected from the turquoise module. GOLM1 and FAM49B genes were chosen based on single-gene analysis results. Survival analysis showed that the higher expression of GOLM1 and FAM49B genes was correlated with a worse prognosis of HNSCC patients. Immunohistochemistry and multiplex immunofluorescence techniques verified that GOLM1 and FAM49B genes were highly expressed in HNSCC cells, and high expressions of GOLM1 were associated with the pathological grades of HNSCC. In conclusion, our study illustrated a new insight that GOLM1 and FAM49B genes might be used as potential biomarkers to determine the development of HNSCC, while GOLM1 and FAM49B have the possibility to be prognostic indicators for HNSCC.

We assessed if same-sex sexual behavior disclosure of index men who have sex with men (MSM) was related to number of HIV self-testing (HIVST) kits requested by index participants, and number of test results successfully uploaded by alters in a network-based HIVST intervention. Index participants are men who accessed and distributed HIVST kits and alters are index's social contacts who received kits. We analyzed treatment arm data [N = 106, mean age = 27 (SD = 5.3)] of an intervention conducted among MSM in Guangzhou, China, May 2019-December 2019. Index MSM who disclosed sexual behavior to their family tended to request more kits [adjusted incidence rate ratio (aIRR) 1.42, 95% CI 1.06, 1.90, p < .05]. Index men who disclosed sexual behavior to their family (aIRR 2.47, 95% CI 1.17, 5.24, p < .05) tended to yield an increase in number of alter test results uploaded. Findings have implications for the development of network-based interventions for key populations.

BACKGROUND: There are limited studies on blocking and men who have sex with men (MSM) health outcomes. We need such data in China, to better understand the relationship between Chinese MSM gay app use and health outcomes, thus providing insight on risky sexual behaviors and HIV transmission among Chinese MSM - one of the world's largest MSM communities. Blocking someone is when users select a function on an app to prevent another user from contacting them and being blocked is when someone is prevented from contacting another user. We studied the correlates of blocking on the world's largest gay dating app among Chinese MSM (N = 208). METHODS: We conducted a cross-sectional survey as part of an HIV testing intervention in Guangzhou, China, May-December 2019. Using logistic regression models, we estimated the correlates of blocking (e.g. sociodemographic characteristics, sexual behavior, HIV testing history, social network data). RESULTS: MSM had a mean age of 27.9 years (SD = 7.1) and median of one sexual partner in the last 3 months. About 62% had blocked someone in their lifetime and 46% had been blocked in their lifetime. Each additional male partner was associated with an 87% (aOR = 1.87, 95%CI = 1.03, 3.40) increased chance of being blocked. Reporting a versatile sexual role was related with a 90% (aOR = 0.10, 95%CI = 0.02, 0.45) decreased likelihood of blocking behavior and an 86% (aOR = 0.14, 95%CI = 0.04, 0.46) reduced chance of being blocked. CONCLUSIONS: Number of male partners may be associated with blocking behavior, with implications for the design of online sexual health interventions.

As donor financial support decreases, ending the HIV epidemic in Asia will require novel and sustainable approaches. Social innovation, a community-engaged process that links social change and health improvement, may be useful for helping to end the HIV epidemic in Asia. A scoping review to examine social innovation strategies in sexual health for the Asian region was conducted. The research identified focused on three types of social innovation: (1) microfinance; (2) social entrepreneurship; and (3) social enterprise. Microfinance provides financial opportunities (e.g. banking services, job opportunities) to spur local entrepreneurship and healthier behaviours. Social entrepreneurship uses business principles and tools (e.g. crowdsourcing, human-centred design) to improve health. Social enterprise is a business with a social mission. Further research is needed to measure the efficacy and cost-effectiveness of social innovation strategies in improving HIV services.

BACKGROUND: Gonorrhea and chlamydia are common among Chinese men who have sex with men (MSM), but testing rates are low. We developed a pay-it-forward program where men receive a free gonorrhea/chlamydia test and can then donate toward future participants' tests. This study aims to investigate drivers of testing uptake and donation using a mixed methods approach. METHODS: We used a sequential explanatory design to explore drivers of testing uptake and donation unique to pay-it-forward through a quantitative cross-sectional survey and a qualitative thematic analysis of semistructured interviews. We collected data on sociodemographics and perceived benefits of pay-it-forward among men offered the pay-it-forward interventionand analyzed testing uptake and donations using descriptive statistics and logistic regression. We then conducted 30 semistructured interviews with men and coded interview data to identify themes. RESULTS: Three hundred and one MSM were offered pay-it-forward and 55% (165/301) received gonorrhea/chlamydia testing. Ninety-one percent (150 of 165) donated any amount with a mean of 58.31 ± 53.39 RMB (US $8.61 ± 7.88), or 39% of the standard price of gonorrhea/chlamydia testing. Getting tested was not associated with income, but donations were higher in the highest income bracket (adjusted odds ratio, 7.12; 95% confidence interval, 1.61-31.52). Fifty-eight percent (94 of 162) selected "more MSM can get tested," and 54% (88 of 162) selected "I can help someone else" as benefits of pay-it-forward. Qualitative themes for drivers of testing and donation included flexible pricing, generosity and reciprocity, and MSM community identity. CONCLUSIONS: Quantitative and qualitative results suggest that this pay-it-forward program may increase gonorrhea/chlamydia testing by reducing cost barriers, leveraging generosity and reciprocity, and mobilizing community altruism.

Intracellular calcium ([Ca2+]i) oscillation is a fundamental signaling response of cartilage cells under mechanical loading or osmotic stress. Chondrocytes are usually considered as nonexcitable cells with no spontaneous [Ca2+]i signaling. This study proved that chondrocytes can exhibit robust spontaneous [Ca2+]i signaling without explicit external stimuli. The intensity of [Ca2+]i peaks from individual chondrocytes maintain a consistent spatiotemporal pattern, acting as a unique "fingerprint" for each cell. Statistical analysis revealed lognormal distributions of the temporal parameters of [Ca2+]i peaks, as well as strong linear correlations between their means and sds. Based on these statistical findings, we hypothesized that the spontaneous [Ca2+]i peaks may result from an autocatalytic process and that [Ca2+]i oscillation is controlled by a threshold-regulating mechanism. To test these 2 mechanisms, we established a multistage biophysical model by assuming the spontaneous [Ca2+]i signaling of chondrocytes as a combination of deterministic and stochastic processes. The theoretical model successfully explained the lognormal distribution of the temporal parameters and the fingerprint feature of [Ca2+]i peaks. In addition, by using antagonists for 10 pathways, we revealed that the initiation of spontaneous [Ca2+]i peaks in chondrocytes requires the presence of extracellular Ca2+, and that the PLC-inositol 1,4,5-trisphosphate pathway, which controls the release of calcium from the endoplasmic reticulum, can affect the initiation of spontaneous [Ca2+]i peaks in chondrocytes. The purinoceptors and transient receptor potential vanilloid 4 channels on the plasma membrane also play key roles in the spontaneous [Ca2+]i signaling of chondrocytes. In contrast, blocking the T-type or L-type voltage-gated calcium channel promoted the spontaneous calcium signaling. Sulfur dioxide (SO2) is commonly used in food processing and preservation processes due to its antioxidant and antibiotic properties. However, it has been documented that excessive intake of SO2 could cause serious health problems. Therefore, it is very necessary to develop a novel SO2 probe with excellent performance. Herein, a novel fluorescent probe (Ph-CN) based on the ICT-ESIPT mechanism for monitoring SO2 with the C[double bond, length as m-dash]N double bond was developed. Furthermore, Ph-CN exhibits various splendid features, such as near-infrared (NIR) and ratiometric detection, real-time detection (<5 s), good selectivity and photostability, large Stokes shift (230 nm) and large emission shift (200 nm). Most importantly, the probe Ph-CN can realize the detection of SO2 in HeLa cells and in vivo.

BACKGROUND: Men who have sex with men (MSM) globally have a high burden of curable sexually transmitted infections (STIs). MSM do not frequently receive rectal STI testing because of several barriers, such as not being out (disclosure of sexual behavior). We evaluate whether Chinese MSM select an STI test (rectal vs urethral) appropriate for their sexual behavior (insertive and/or receptive), and the interactions with being out. METHODS: This was a secondary analysis of data from a cross sectional MSM survey conducted at a multisite randomized controlled trial (RCT) (December 2018 to January 2019) around uptake of gonorrhea and chlamydia testing among Chinese MSM (N = 431). We collected socio demographics, relevant medical and sexual history, and disclosure of sexual behavior (outness). We estimated the decision to test and test choice, and the extent to which disclosure plays a role in decision making. RESULTS: Among 431 MSM, mean age was 28 years (SD = 7.10) and 65% were out to someone. MSM who indicated versatile sexual behavior and were out to someone had a 26.8% (95%CI = 6.1, 47.5) increased likelihood for selecting the rectal test vs the ure thral test, compared to those versatile and not out. Versatile MSM out to their health provider outside of the study context had a 29.4% (95%CI = 6.3, 52.6) greater likelihood for selecting the rectal STI test vs the urethral test, compared to versatile MSM not out to their health provider. CONCLUSIONS: Sexual behavior and outness may affect gonorrhea and chlamydia testing provision. Apart from clinicians, community based efforts may reduce stigma based barriers to testing.

BACKGROUND: The spread of healthy behaviors through social networks may be accelerated by influential individuals. Previous studies have used lay health influencers to prevent sexually transmitted infections (STIs) among internet-using men who have sex with men (MSM). However, there is a lack of understanding of the characteristics of this key subset of MSM. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to examine sociodemographic characteristics, HIV and syphilis testing, and sexual behaviors of Web-based MSM sexual health influencers (SHIs) in China, defined as individuals with relatively stronger influence on spreading HIV and STI information online. METHODS: A Web-based survey of MSM was conducted in August 2017 as a final follow-up of a randomized controlled trial promoting HIV testing in 8 Chinese cities. Men were recruited through a gay social networking mobile phone app and were included if they were born biologically male, aged 16 years and above, ever had sex with another man, and HIV negative or with unknown HIV status. Information regarding sociodemographic characteristics, sexual behaviors, and HIV and syphilis testing was obtained. We assessed men's Web-based sexual health influence using a standardized 6-item opinion leadership scale focused on HIV and STI information. Influencers were defined as those whose mean score ranked within the top 13% (a higher score means greater influence). We used multivariable linear and logistic regression models to measure Web-based sexual health influence's association with HIV and syphilis testing, controlling for intervention trial effects, age, education, income, and marital status. RESULTS: Overall, 1031 men completed the survey. Most men were younger than 30 years (819/1031, 79.43%) and had at least college education (667/1031, 64.69%). Influencers were more likely to get tested for HIV (73/132, 55.3% vs 337/899, 37.5%; P<.001) and syphilis (35/132, 26.5% vs 137/899, 15.2%; P=.001) in the last 3 months compared with noninfluencers. There were no significant differences in condomless sex with male partners (26/132, 19.7% vs 203/899, 22.6%; P=.46), mean number of male sex partners (1.32 vs 1.11; P=.16) in the last 3 months, and mainly meeting male sex partners online in the last 12 months (97/132, 73.5% vs 669/899, 74.4%; P=.82) between influencers and noninfluencers. Regression analyses showed that influencers had higher odds of HIV testing (adjusted odds ratio, AOR 2.16, 95% CI 1.48-3.17) and syphilis testing (AOR 1.99, 95% CI 1.28-3.10) in the last 3 months. CONCLUSIONS: We identified Web-based SHIs who might be more likely to help promote healthy HIV and syphilis testing behaviors through MSM populations. Leveraging existing influencers may help improve HIV and syphilis testing among their networks.

BACKGROUND: Considerable work has been carried out to understand the biology of tachyzoites and bradyzoites of Toxoplasma gondii in large part due to in vitro culture methods for these stages. However, culturing methods for stages that normally develop in the gut of the definitive felid host, including the merozoite and sexual stages, have not been developed hindering the ability to study a large portion of the parasite's life cycle. Here, we begin to unravel the molecular aspects of enteric stages by providing new data on merozoite stage gene expression. RESULTS: To profile gene expression differences in enteric stages we harvested merozoites from the intestine of infected cats and hybridized mRNA to the Affymetrix Toxoplasma GeneChip. We analyzed the merozoite data in context of the life cycle by comparing it to previously published data for the oocyst, tachyzoite, and bradyzoite stages. Principal component analysis highlighted the unique profile of merozoites, placing them approximately half-way on a continuum between the tachyzoite/bradyzoite and oocyst samples. Prior studies have shown that antibodies to surface antigen one (SAG1) and many dense granule proteins do not label merozoites: our microarray data confirms that these genes were not expressed at this stage. Also, the expression for many rhoptry and microneme proteins was drastically reduced while the expression for many surface antigens was increased at the merozoite stage. Gene Ontology and KEGG analysis revealed that genes involved in transcription/translation and many metabolic pathways were upregulated at the merozoite stage, highlighting unique growth requirements of this stage. To functionally test these predictions, we demonstrated that an upstream promoter region of a merozoite specific gene was sufficient to control expression in merozoites in vivo. CONCLUSIONS: Merozoites are the first developmental stage in the coccidian cycle that takes place within the gut of the definitive host. The data presented here describe the global gene expression profile of the merozoite stage and the creation of transgenic parasite strains that show stage-specific expression of reporter genes in the cat intestine. These data and reagents will be useful in unlocking how the parasite senses and responds to the felid gut environment to initiate enteric development.

Objective: In intensive care units (ICU), frequent false alarms from medical equipment can cause alarm fatigue among nurses, which might lead to delayed or missed responses and increased risk of adverse patient events. This review was conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of intelligent management interventions to reduce false alarms in ICU. Method: Following the framework of Whitmore and Knafl, the reviewers systematically searched six databases: PubMed, EMBASE, CINAHL, OVID, Cochrane Library, and Scopus, and studies included intelligent management of clinical alarms published in the English or Chinese language from the inception of each database to December 2022 were retrieved. The researchers used the PICOS framework to formulate the search strategy, developed keywords, screened literature, and assessed the studies' quality using the Joanna Briggs Institute-Meta-Analysis of Statistics, Assessment, and Review Instrument (JBI-MAStARI). The review was preregistered on PROSPERO (CRD42023411552). Results: Seven studies met the inclusion criteria. The results showed that different interventions for intelligent management of alarms were beneficial in reducing the number of false alarms, the duration of alarms, the response time to important alarms for nurses, and the alarm fatigue levels among nurses. Positive results were found in practice after the application of the novel alarm management approaches. Conclusion: Intelligent management intervention may be an effective way to reduce false alarms. The application of systems or tools for the intelligent management of clinical alarms is urgent in hospitals. To ensure more effective patient monitoring and less distress for nurses, more alarm management approaches combined with artificial intelligence will be needed in the future to enable accurate identification of critical alarms, ensure nurses are responding accurately to alarms, and make a real difference to alarm-ridden healthcare environments.

Early life stress (ELS) can cause long-term changes by epigenetic factors, especially histone acetylation modification, playing a crucial role, affect normal cognition, mood, and behavior, and increase susceptibility to post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) in adulthood. It has been found that paeoniflorin (PF) can cross the blood-brain barrier to exert anti-PTSD effects on adult PTSD rats. However, whether PF can alleviate the harmful effects caused by ELS in adulthood has not yet been reported. Therefore, to explore the relationship between ELS and PTSD susceptibility in adulthood and its mechanism, in this study, SPS was used as a stressor of ELS, and the mathematical tool Z-normalization was employed as an evaluation criterion of behavioral resilience susceptibility. To investigate the regulatory mechanism of PF on histone acetylation in the hippocampus and amygdala of ELS rats in adulthood, using changes in HATs/HDACs as the entry point, meanwhile, the epigenetic marks (H3K9 and H4K12) in the key brain regions of ELS (hippocampus and amygdala) were evaluated, and the effects of PF on behavioral representation and PTSD susceptibility were observed. This study found that ELS lead to a series of PTSD-like behaviors in adulthood and caused imbalance of HATs/HDACs ratio in the hippocampus and amygdala, which confirms that ELS is an important risk factor for the development of PTSD in adulthood. In addition, paeoniflorin may improve ELS-induced PTSD-like behaviors and reduce the susceptibility of ELS rats to develop PTSD in adulthood by modulating the HATs/HDACs ratio in the hippocampus and amygdala.

Implant dysfunction and failure during medical treatment can be attributed to bacterial infection with Staphylococcus aureus and Enterococcus faecalis, which are the prevalent strains responsible for implant infections. Currently, antibiotics are primarily used either locally or systemically to prevent and treat bacterial infections in implants. However, the effectiveness of this approach is unsatisfactory. Therefore, the development of new antimicrobial medications is crucial to address the clinical challenges associated with implant infections. In this study, a nanoparticle (ICG+RSG) composed of indocyanine green (ICG) and rosiglitazone (RSG), and delivered using 1,2-dipalmitoyl-snglycero-3-phosphocholine (DPPC) was prepared. ICG+RSG has photothermal and photodynamic properties to eliminate bacteria at the infection site by releasing reactive oxygen species and increasing the temperature. Additionally, it regulates phagocytosis and macrophage polarization to modulate the immune response in the body. ICG+RSG kills bacteria and reduces tissue inflammation, showing potential for preventing implant infections.

The active delivery of nanodrugs has been a bottleneck problem in nanomedicine. While modification of nanodrugs with targeting agents can enhance their retention at the lesion location, the transportation of nanodrugs in the circulation system is still a passive process. The navigation of nanodrugs with external forces such as magnetic field has been shown to be effective for active delivery, but the existing techniques are limited to specific materials like magnetic nanoparticles. In this study, an alternative actuation method is proposed based on optical manipulation for remote navigation of nanodrugs in vivo, which is compatible with most of the common drug carriers and exhibits significantly higher manipulation precision. By the programmable scanning of the laser beam, the motion trajectory and velocity of the nanodrugs can be precisely controlled in real time, making it possible for intelligent drug delivery, such as inverse-flow transportation, selective entry into specific vascular branch, and dynamic circumvention across obstacles. In addition, the controlled mass delivery of nanodrugs can be realized through indirect actuation by the microflow field. The developed optical manipulation method provides a new solution for the active delivery of nanodrugs, with promising potential for the treatment of blood diseases such as leukemia and thrombosis.
