RESUMO

The issues of fruit waste and safety resulting from rot have spurred a demand for improved packaging systems. Herein, we present highly antibacterial and antioxidative carbon nanodot/silk fibroin (CD/SF) films for fruit preservation. The films are composed of CDs and SF together with a small amount of glycerol via hydrogen bonding, exhibiting outstanding biosafety, transparency, and stretchability. The films effectively integrate key functionalities (atmosphere control, resistance to food-borne pathogens, and antioxidation properties) and can be manufactured in large sizes (about 20 × 30 cm), boasting a transmission rate of 13 183 cm3/m2·day for oxygen and 2860 g/m2·day for water vapor, favoring the preservation of fresh fruits. A convenient dip-coating method enables in situ fabrication of films with a thickness of approximately 14 µm directly on the fruits' surface providing comprehensive protection. Importantly, the films are washable and biodegradable. This work presents a promising technology to produce multifunctional and eco-friendly antibacterial packaging systems.

Triplet excitons usually do not emit light under ambient conditions due to the spin-forbidden transition rule, thus they are called dark excitons. Herein, triplet excitons in carbon nanodots (CNDs) are brightened by embedding the CNDs into poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) films; flexible multicolor phosphorescence films are thus demonstrated. PVA chains can isolate the CNDs, and excited state electron or energy transfer induced triplet exciton quenching is thus reduced; while the formed hydrogen bonds between the CNDs and PVA can restrict vibration/rotation of the CNDs, thus further protecting the triplet excitons from nonradiative recombination. The lifetimes of the flexible multicolor phosphorescence films can reach 567, 1387, 726, and 311 ms, and the longest-lasting phosphorescence film can be observed by naked eyes for nearly 15 s even after bending 5000 times. The phosphorescence films can be processed into various patterns, and a dynamic optical signature concept has been proposed and demonstrated based on the phosphorescence films.

PURPOSE: This study aims to evaluate the long-term outcome and prognostic factors of a "mother-child" coaxial dual-catheter technique for percutaneous transluminal angioplasty (PTA) in the treatment of central vein stenosis (CVS) or central vein occlusion (CVO). MATERIALS AND METHODS: During September 2017 to August 2020, totally, 76 hemodialysis patients with symptomatic CVS or CVO were treated with PTA using the mother-child technique. The success rate, complications, and follow-up information were collected. Cox proportional hazard analysis was used to explore the predicting factors of primary patency. Primary patency rates of different subgroups were generated with the Kaplan-Meier analysis and compared using the log-rank (Mantel-Cox) test. RESULTS: There were 31 CVS patients and 45 CVO patients who presented with 114 PTAs. The initial procedure success rate was 98.25%. By the end of the follow-up, 57 patients (75%) had maintained functioning fistula after initial or repeated PTAs. The primary patency rates were 88.75% at 3 months, 73.36% at 6 months, 55.83% at 12 months, and 50.75% at 18 months. The secondary patency rates were 97.14% at 6 months, 87.66% at 12 months, and 82.18% at 24 months. The predictors for primary patency were history diabetes mellitus (hazard ratio [HR] = 3.1, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.31-7.30, P = .010), abnormal white blood cell count (HR = 1.44, 95% CI: 1.18-1.75, P < .001), lesion at subclavian-innominate vein (HR=2.75, 95% CI: 1.34-5.63, P = .006), and occlusion (HR=0.33, 95% CI: 0.14-0.76, P = .010). The primary patency was significantly lower in the subclavian-innominate vein subgroup, with a median primary patency of 4.5 (3-12.75) months, than in the nonsubclavian-innominate vein subgroup (8.5 [5-13] months; P = .005). The median duration of each PTA was 8 months for the first PTA, 7.5 months for the second PTA, and 5 months for the third PTA. There was no significant difference in the patency duration of repeated PTAs and the primary PTA (P = .389). CONCLUSIONS: The mother-child coaxial dual-catheter technique has a good success rate and acceptable primary patency in the treatment of hemodialysis patients with CVS or CVO. Repeated PTA is as effective as the primary PTA. CLINICAL IMPACT: This is the follow up report on the "Mother-Child" coaxial dual-catheter technique for percutaneous transluminal angioplasty of central vein stenosis or occlusion in hemodialysis patients since we first presented it in 2019. In this paper, we can see that the long-term patency rate of this technique for central venous disease is satisfactory, and repeated use of this technique does not affect the patency time. Compared with other literature reports, the surgical success rate of this technique is significantly improved. Therefore, this technique is worth popularizing in the treatment of central venous disease.

BACKGROUND: P-glycoprotein, encoded by ABCB1 (or MDR1), may contribute to drug resistance in epilepsy by limiting gastrointestinal absorption and brain access to antiseizure medications. The study aimed to evaluate the impact of ABCB1 polymorphisms on lacosamide (LCM) serum concentrations in Uygur pediatric patients with epilepsy. METHODS: The serum concentrations of LCM were determined by ultrahigh performance liquid chromatography, and the ABCB1 polymorphism was analyzed through polymerase chain reaction-fluorescence staining in situ hybridization. The χ2 test and the Fisher exact test were used to analyze the allelic and genotypic distributions of ABCB1 polymorphisms between the drug-resistant and drug-responsive patient groups. Differences in steady-state and dose-corrected LCM serum concentrations between different genotypes were analyzed using the one-way analysis of variance and the Mann-Whitney test. RESULTS: A total of 131 Uygur children with epilepsy were analyzed, and of them, 41 demonstrated drug resistance. The frequency of the GT genotype of ABCB1 G2677T/A was significantly higher in the drug-resistant group than that in the drug-responsive group (P < 0.05, OR = 1.966, 95% CI, 1.060-3.647). Patients with the G2677T/A-AT genotype had a statistically significantly lower concentration-to-dose (CD) value than patients with the G2677T/A-GG genotype (mean: 0.6 ± 0.2 versus 0.8 ± 0.5 mcg/mL per mg/kg, P < 0.001). Significantly lower LCM serum concentrations were observed in ABCB1 C3435T CT and TT genotype carriers than those in the CC carriers (P = 0.008 and P = 0.002), and a significantly lower LCM CD value was observed in ABCB1 C3435T CT genotype carriers than that in the CC carriers (P = 0.042). CONCLUSIONS: ABCB1 G2677T/A and C3435T polymorphisms may affect LCM serum concentrations and treatment efficacy in Uygur pediatric patients with epilepsy, leading to drug resistance in pediatric patients.

OBJECTIVE: To explore the relationship between cerebrospinal fluid-contacting neurons (CSF-cNs) and endogenous neural progenitor cells (ENPCs) and whether CSF-cNs are involved in nerve repair after spinal cord injury (SCI). METHODS: Cholera toxin B-horseradish peroxidase complex (CB-HRP) and cholera toxin B conjugated with saporin (CB-SAP) were injected into the lateral ventricles of spinal cord injured rats to mark and destroy the CSF-cNs. Then the rats in the experimental group were injured by SCI. Observe the content and co-expression of CSF-cNs and ENPCs in rats of each group, and observe the recovery of motor function after SCI in each group. RESULTS: After the destruction of CSF-cNs, the number of ENPCs decreased significantly in the long term after the surgery, and the recovery of motor function also deteriorated as compared to the group with intact CSF-cNs. Meanwhile some cells in the spinal cord express both the biological marker of CSF-cNs and ENPCs. CONCLUSION: This study shows that the population of ENPCs and motor function recovery in SCI rats declined after the destruction of CSF-cNs, suggesting that CSF-cNs affect the ENPCs population and may be involved in the recovery of neural function after SCI.

BACKGROUND: Interindividual variations in the efficacy of antiseizure medications make epilepsy treatment challenging. This is due to genetic factors such as gene polymorphisms in Adenosine-triphosphate (ATP)-binding cassette sub-family B member 1 (ABCB1). In this article, the impact of polymorphisms in the P-glycoprotein-encoding gene, ABCB1 (C1236T, G2677T/A, and C3435T), on levetiracetam disposition was evaluated in Uygur Chinese children with epilepsy. METHODS: MDR1 C3435T polymorphism was analyzed by polymerase chain reaction-fluorescence staining in situ hybridization. The χ test and Fisher exact test were used to analyze the allelic and genotypic distribution of ABCB1, C1236T, G2677T, and C3435T between the drug-resistant and drug-responsive groups. Differences in steady-state and dose-corrected levetiracetam serum concentrations between the different genotypes were analyzed using 1-way analysis of variance and Mann-Whitney test. RESULTS: Total 245 Uygur children with epilepsy were analyzed [drug-resistant, n = 117 (males:females = 53:64) and drug-responsive, n = 128 (males:females = 76:52)]. The frequency of ABCB1 C1236T, G2677T/A, and ABCB1 C3435T genotypes, alleles, haplotypes, or diplotypes did not differ significantly between the 2 groups (P > 0.05). Significantly higher levetiracetam concentrations and serum concentration/body mass dose were seen in ABCB1 2677-GT, TT, GA, and AT genotypes and 3435-TT carriers compared with GG and CC carriers (P = 0.021 and P = 0.002 versus P = 0.001 and P = 0.000, respectively). CONCLUSIONS: ABCB1 G2677T/A and C3435T may affect levetiracetam disposition and therapeutic efficacy in Uygur children with epilepsy. Genetic analysis could be a valuable tool for predicting the response to antiseizure medications before the start of treatment and could contribute to personalized medicine for Uygur children with epilepsy.

BACKGROUND: Previous studies have not described the relationship between reducing radial artery diameter as well as increasing age and functional maturation of the radio-cephalic arteriovenous fistula (RCAVF) and no data identify these as linear relationship. The objective of this study was to perform trend analysis to assess these aspects. METHODS: Our retrospective cohort study enrolled and analyzed 353 follow-up cases that underwent first AVF creation. The artery and vein sizes were measured by ultrasound. We performed follow-up, a minimum of 3 months after surgery. Multivariable logistic regression analysis was used to identify independent risk factors inmaturation. Participant age was categorized into four groups (age ≤ 29, 30-49, 50-69, and 70-90 years). Radial artery diameter was categorized into four groups (≤ 1.9, >1.9 and ≤ 2.1, >2.1 and ≤ 2.4, >2.4 mm) according to median and interquartile ranges. We adjusted for confounders in four logistic models, and primary analyses were based on building ordered category models and tested P values for trends to estimate the relationship of radial artery diameter and each 20-year increase in age with risk of maturation. RESULTS: The mature RCAVF group included 301 cases, and the immature group included 52 cases. Radial artery diameter, age, and diabetes were independent risk factors of maturation. Odds ratios (ORs) associated with maturation reduced with increasing age, while ORs increased with increasing radial artery diameter. P values for trends(<0.05) were observed in all four models. A reduction in radial artery diameter and higher age were significantly associated with a higher incidence of immaturity after adjusting the multivariate models. The risks of immaturation were increased by more than 1.54 fold for each 20-year increase and increased by more than 1.34 fold for the smaller radial artery diameter group. CONCLUSION: Our findings suggest that a significantly higher immaturity risk of RCAVF was associated with increasing age and a reduction in radial artery diameter. Our study identified a linear exposure-response relationship of age and radial artery diameter with immaturity incident. A careful selection of patients will be helpful in improving AVF functional maturation.

BACKGROUND: Simultaneous dislocation of the radial head and distal radio-ulnar joint without fracture (Criss-Cross Injury) in an adult patient is rarely reported in previous studies. The pathological changes and injury patterns have not been clearly demonstrated. CASE PRESENTATION: A 26-year-old woman presented with acute pain of the right wrist and elbow after a fall from cycling. Physical examination revealed an unstable elbow and wrist joint. Plain radiographs showed volar dislocation of the radial head and dorsal dislocation of the distal radius without associated fracture, forming a criss-cross appearance of the ulna and radius on the lateral radiograph. MRI images confirmed partial rupture of the proximal interosseous membrane from its dorsal attachment on the radius, as well as partial rupture of the medial collateral ligament. Conservative treatment failed because the radiocapitellar joint and distal radio-ulnar joint could not be simultaneously reduced. Surgical exploration revealed a highly unstable radial head, but the annular ligament was found to be intact. Manual force was applied to reduce the radial head and a percutaneous K-wire was used to stabilize the proximal radioulnar joint with the forearm in full supination. After surgery, the elbow was immobilized in 90° flexion by a long arm cast for 4 weeks. The K-wire was removed at 6 weeks postoperatively. At 18 months postoperatively, the patient had regained a full range of flexion and extension, with normal supination and a slight limitation in pronation. CONCLUSIONS: The proximal IOM, especially the dorsal band, was injured in Criss-Cross injuries, while the central part of the IOM remained intact. This injury pattern distinguished itself from Essex-Lopresti injury, which mainly involves rupture of the central band of the IOM.

Objective: Few studies have investigated the association of apolipoprotein B (ApoB) with the progression of diabetic kidney disease (DKD) and the risk of renal replacement therapy (RRT).Method: In this retrospective cohort study, a group of 258 DKD patients with stage 3-5chronic kidney disease(CKD)were divided into low ApoB (<1.1 g/L) and high ApoB (≥1.1 g/L) groups and followed-up for 20.51 ± 6.11 months. The association of the serum ApoB concentration with RRT was determined by Kaplan-Meier and Cox regression analysis. ApoB was measured in the serum.Results: Ninety-three of the 258 DKD patients needed RRT during follow-up. Kaplan-Meier analysis showed that patients with high ApoB were significantly more likely to progress to RRT than those with low ApoB (log-rank = 16.62, p < 0.001). The presence of high ApoB increased the risk of RRT. Analysis of ApoB as either a categorical (<1.1 g/L or ≥1.1 g/l) or continuous variable by univariate and multivariate regression found that ApoB was an independent risk factor of DKD progression to RRT in this group of DKD patients with stage 3-5 CKD (p < 0.05).Conclusion: Increased ApoB was an independent predictor of progression to RRT. A larger study is needed to confirm the unfavorable prognosis of increased ApoB in DKD patients.

BACKGROUND: Elevated serum uric acid (SUA) is associated with increased cardiovascular (CV) and all-cause mortality risk in the general population, but the impact of UA on mortality in hemodialysis patients is still controversial. The aim of the study was to explore the relationship between SUA and all-cause mortality and CV mortality in hemodialysis patients. METHODS: This retrospective, observational cohort study included 210 HD patients with a mean age of 56.6 ± 16.6 years. All demographic and laboratory data were recorded at baseline. The Kaplan-Meier method and Cox proportional hazard regression model were used to examine the association between SUA and all-cause mortality and CV mortality in HD patients. RESULTS: With 420 µmol/L (20th percentile) and 644 µmol/L (80th percentile) as the boundary points, the patients were divided into three groups. After a median follow-up of 49.8 months, 68 (32.4%) all-cause deaths and 34 (16.2%) CV deaths were recorded. The Kaplan-Meier method showed that with a decrease in SUA, all-cause mortality (log rank χ2 = 15.61, p = .000), and CV mortality (log rank χ2=14.28, p = .000) increased. Each 100 µmol/L increase in SUA was associated with lower all-cause mortality with an hazard ratio (HR) of 0.792 (0.645-0.972) and lower CV mortality with an HR of 0.683 (0.505-0.924) after adjusting for age, sex, and complications. Compared to the lowest quartile, all-cause mortality [HR 0.351(0.132-0.934), p = .036] and CV mortality [HR 0.112 (0.014-0.925), p = .042] were lower in the highest SUA quartile. CONCLUSION: A lower SUA level in HD patients was associated with a higher risk of all-cause mortality and CV mortality. Moreover, higher SUA concentrations may be cardioprotective in HD patients.

Hough Transform (HT), which has a low sensitivity to local faults and good ability in suppressing noise and clutters, usually applies to trajectory detection in a cluttered environment. This paper describes its application for detecting the trajectories of extended targets in three-dimensional measurements, i.e., a two-dimensional positional information and its measuring time. For taking the full merits of a multi-scan, the measuring time is regarded as a variable for the time axis. This correspondence extends the HT to 3-dimensional data. Meanwhile, a three-dimensional accumulator matrix is built for the purpose of voting. The voting process is done in an iterative way by selecting the 3D-line with the most votes and removing the corresponding measurements in each step. The three dimensional Hough Transform-based extended target track-before-detect technique (3DHT-ET-TBD), proposed here, is suitable to track the extended target and non-extended target simultaneously and few false alarm trajectories arise. Both the real data and simulated data are exploited to evaluate its performance. Compared with the Gaussian Mixture Probability Hypothesis Density (GM-PHD) filter based methods and a 4DHT-TBD algorithm, the 3DHT-ET-TBD is a more promising approach for multi-extended target tracking problems due to its high efficiency and low computation, especially in situations where the noise and false alarms are considerably high but few measurements are generated by the extended targets.

RESUMO

A grey wolf optimization-based track-before-detect (GWO-TBD) method is developed for extended target detection and tracking. The aim of the GWO-TBD is tracking weak and maneuvering extended targets in a cluttered environment using the measurement points of an air surveillance radar. The optimal solution is the trajectory constituted by the points of an extended target. At the beginning of the GWO-TBD, the measurements of each scan are clustered into alternative sets. Secondly, closely sets are associated for tracklets. Each tracklet equals a candidate solution. Thirdly, the tracklets are further associated iteratively to find a better solution. An improved GWO algorithm is developed in the iteration for removal of unappreciated solution and acceleration of convergence. After the iteration of several generations, the optimal solution can be achieved, i.e. trajectory of an extended target. Both the real data and synthetic data are performed with the GWO-TBD and several existing algorithms in this work. Result infers that the GWO-TBD is superior to the others in detecting and tracking maneuvering targets. Meanwhile, much less prior information is necessary in the GWO-TBD. It makes the approach is engineering friendly.

OBJECTIVE: To observe the clinical results of proximal femoral nail anti-rotation (PFNA) combined with zoledronic acid injection in the treatment of osteoporotic intertrochanteric fractures in the elderly. METHODS: 60 elderly patients with osteoporotic intertrochanteric fractures were diagnosed using a dual energy X-ray bone density instrument. Patients were randomly divided into treatment or control groups (30 cases in each group). Patients in both groups were treated by closed/open reduction and internal fixation using PFNA. In the treatment group, patients received one zoledronic phosphonic acid injection of 5 mg/100 ml via intravenous drip, in addition to 600 mg of Caltrate D (qd) and 0.25 mg of alpha ossification alcohol (qd). The control group received 600 mg of Caltrate D (qd) and 0.25 mg of alpha ossification alcohol (qd). The oral drugs were administered for 12 months. Bone pain relief was observed, and changes in the bone mineral density (BMD) of the lumbar and health-side hip were recorded. Clinical results were evaluated using the Visual Analogue Scale (VAS), Harris joint function score, and Osteo- porosis Quality of Life Scale (OQOLS). RESULTS: Compared with the control group, bone pain symptoms were significantly alleviated (p < 0.05) in the treatment group. In the treatment and control groups, both between-group and within-group differences in BMD were significantly increased in L1e4, femoral neck and trochanter (p < 0.05). No significant differences were found between the two groups in regard to the involved hip or the total rate of improvement at the end of the follow-up period, although cases in the treatment group had higher OQOLS scores than those of the controls (p = 0.04). Cases in the treatment group healed more quickly than those in the control group [(13 ± 3.2) weeks vs (15 ± 4.6) weeks, p = 0.02]. During the follow-up period, cases in the treatment group had no new fractures, whereas 2 new cases of hip fracture and 2 cases of distal radial fractures were observed among the controls. CONCLUSION: Zoledronic acid injection combined with PFNA is a favorable treatment option for the elderly patients with osteoporotic intertrochanteric fracture. It can effectively relieve bone pain, increase bone density, improve quality of life, reduce the occurrence of new fractures and promote fracture healing.

Erythroid differentiation-associated gene (EDAG) has been considered to be a transcriptional regulator that controls hematopoietic cell differentiation, proliferation, and apoptosis. The role of EDAG in erythroid differentiation of primary erythroid progenitor cells and in vivo remains unknown. In this study, we found that EDAG is highly expressed in CMPs and MEPs and upregulated during the erythroid differentiation of CD34(+) cells following erythropoietin (EPO) treatment. Overexpression of EDAG induced erythroid differentiation of CD34(+) cells in vitro and in vivo using immunodeficient mice. Conversely, EDAG knockdown reduced erythroid differentiation in EPO-treated CD34(+) cells. Detailed mechanistic analysis suggested that EDAG forms complex with GATA1 and p300 and increases GATA1 acetylation and transcriptional activity by facilitating the interaction between GATA1 and p300. EDAG deletion mutants lacking the binding domain with GATA1 or p300 failed to enhance erythroid differentiation, suggesting that EDAG regulates erythroid differentiation partly through forming EDAG/GATA1/p300 complex. In the presence of the specific inhibitor of p300 acetyltransferase activity, C646, EDAG was unable to accelerate erythroid differentiation, indicating an involvement of p300 acetyltransferase activity in EDAG-induced erythroid differentiation. ChIP-PCR experiments confirmed that GATA1 and EDAG co-occupy GATA1-targeted genes in primary erythroid cells and in vivo. ChIP-seq was further performed to examine the global occupancy of EDAG during erythroid differentiation and a total of 7,133 enrichment peaks corresponding to 3,847 genes were identified. Merging EDAG ChIP-Seq and GATA1 ChIP-Seq datasets revealed that 782 genes overlapped. Microarray analysis suggested that EDAG knockdown selectively inhibits GATA1-activated target genes. These data provide novel insights into EDAG in regulation of erythroid differentiation.

PURPOSE: To investigate efficacy of open reduction and internal fixation with the miniplate and hollow screw in the treatment of Lisfranc injury. METHODS: Ten cases of Lisfranc injury treated by open reduction, miniplate and hollow screw in our hospital were retrospectively analyzed. There were 6 males and 4 females with age ranging from 25 to 45 years (mean 32 years). Among them, one case was classified as Type A, six Type B and three Type C. Injury mechanism included road traffic accidents (3 cases), fall from height (5 cases) and hit by heavy object (2 cases). All injuries were closed without cerebral trauma or other complicated injuries. The time interval between injury and operation was 6-10 days (average 6.6 days). Postoperatively, the foot function was assessed using Visual Analogue Scales (VAS) and American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society (AOFAS) Scales. Healing time and complications were observed. RESULTS: All patients were followed up for 18-24 months (average 20 months). Anatomic reduction was achieved in all patients on images. There was statistical significance between preoperative score (7.89 ± 0.34) and score at postoperative 8 weeks (0.67 ± 0.13). According to the AOFAS score, 5 cases were defined as excellent, 3 cases as good and 2 cases as fair. During follow-up, there was no wound infection or complications except for osteoarthritis in 2 cases. Healing time ranged from 3 to 6 months with an average of 3.6 months. CONCLUSION: Anatomical reduction of Lisfranc injury can be achieved by open reduction and internal fixation with the miniplate and hollow screw. Normal structure of Lisfranc joint is regained to a great extent; injured ligaments were also repaired. Therefore, this method offers excellent curative effect and can avoid postoperative complications and improve the patients' quality of life.

Long-lasting and highly efficient antibacterial fabrics play a key role in public health occurrences caused by bacterial and viral infections. However, the production of antibacterial fabrics with a large size, highly efficient, and broad-spectrum antibacterial performance remains a great challenge due to the complex processes. Herein, we demonstrate sizable and highly efficient antibacterial fabrics through hydrogen bonding interaction and electrostatic interaction between surface groups of ZnO nanoparticles and fabric fibers. The production process can be carried out at room temperature and achieve a production rate of 300 × 1 m2 within 1 h. Under both visible light and dark conditions, the bactericidal rate against Gram-positive (S. aureus), Gram-negative (E. coli), and multidrug-resistant (MRSA) bacteria can reach an impressive 99.99%. Furthermore, the fabricated ZnO nanoparticle-decorated antibacterial fabrics (ZnO@fabric) show high stability and long-lasting antibacterial performance, making them easy to develop into variable antibacterial blocks for protection suits.

BACKGROUND: Moyamoya disease (MMD) is a significant cause of childhood stroke and transient ischemic attacks (TIAs). This study aimed to assess the safety and efficacy of remote ischemic conditioning (RIC) in children with MMD. METHODS: In a single-center pilot study, 46 MMD patients aged 4 to 14 years, with no history of reconstructive surgery, were randomly assigned to receive either RIC or sham RIC treatment twice daily for a year. The primary outcome measured was the cumulative incidence of major adverse cerebrovascular events (MACEs). Secondary outcomes included ischemic stroke, recurrent TIA, hemorrhagic stroke, revascularization rates, and clinical improvement assessed using the patient global impression of change (PGIC) scale during follow-up. RIC-related adverse events were also recorded, and cerebral hemodynamics were evaluated using transcranial Doppler. RESULTS: All 46 patients completed the final follow-up (23 each in the RIC and sham RIC groups). No severe adverse events associated with RIC were observed. Kaplan-Meier analysis indicated a significant reduction in MACEs frequency after RIC treatment [log-rank test (Mantel-Cox), P = 0.021]. At 3-year follow-up, two (4.35%) patients had an ischemic stroke, four (8.70%) experienced TIAs, and two (4.35%) underwent revascularization as the qualifying MACEs. The clinical improvement rate in the RIC group was higher than the sham RIC group on the PGIC scale (65.2% vs. 26.1%, P < 0.01). No statistical difference in cerebral hemodynamics post-treatment was observed. CONCLUSIONS: RIC is a safe and effective adjunct therapy for asymptomatic children with MMD. This was largely due to the reduced incidence of ischemic cerebrovascular events.

A general and efficient method has been developed for the synthesis of sugar-derived azepane nitrones starting from aldohexoses, with an intramolecular condensation of aldehyde and hydroxylamine as the key step. Through this strategy, each aldohexose produced a pair of azepane nitrones, which are precursors of various azepane iminosugars.

RESUMO

A new thiophenyl pyrazoline probe for Cu(2+) in aqueous solution was synthesized and characterized by IR, NMR, HRMS and X-ray analysis. The probe displays remarkably high selectivity and sensitivity for Cu(2+) with a detection limit of 1.919 × 10(-7) M in aqueous solution (EtOH:HEPES = 1:1, v/v, 0.02 M, pH = 7.2). In addition, the probe is further successfully used to image Cu(2+) in living cells and the probe possesses good reversibility.
