BACKGROUND: Firmiana danxiaensis is a critically endangered and ecologically important tree currently only found in four locations in Danxia or Karst habitats in northern Guangdong Province, China. The specialized habitat preference makes it an ideal model species for study of adaptive evolution. Meanwhile, the phylogenetic relationships of F. danxiaensis in four locations under two landforms are unclear. Therefore, we sequenced its complete chloroplast (cp.) genomes and conducted comprehensive interspecific and intrageneric plastome studies. RESULTS: The F. danxiaensis plastomes in four locations showed a typical quadripartite and circular structure that ranged from 160,832 to 161,206 bp in size, with 112 unique genes encoded. Comparative genomics showed that the plastomes of F. danxiaensis were relatively conserved with high similarity of genome organization, gene number, GC content and SSRs. While the genomes revealed higher biased codon preferences in Karst habitat than those in Danxia habitats. Eighteen and 11 divergent hotpots were identified at interspecific and intrageneric levels for species identification and further phylogenetic studies. Seven genes (clpP, accD, ccsA, ndhH, rpl20, rpoC2, and rps4) were under positive selection and may be related to adaptation. Phylogenetic analysis revealed that F. danxiaensis is sister to F. major and F. simplex. However, the interspecific relationships are not consistent with the habitat types. CONCLUSIONS: The characteristics and interspecific relationship of F. danxiaensis plastomes provide new insights into further integration of geographical factors, environmental factors, and genetic variations on the genomic study of F. danxiaensis. Together, our study will contribute to the study of species identification, population genetics, and conservation biology of F. danxiaensis.

Lipid nanoparticles (LNPs) are emerging as one of the most promising drug delivery systems. The long-circulating effect of intact LNPs (i-LNPs) is the key to efficacy and toxicity in vivo. However, the significant challenge is specific and sensitive detection of i-LNPs. Herein, a dual-recognition fluorescence enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (DR-FELISA) was developed to directly isolate and detect i-LNPs by combining dual-recognition separation with a one-step signal amplification strategy. The microplates captured and enriched i-LNPs through antibody-antigen reaction. Dual-chol probes were spontaneously introduced into the lipid bilayer of captured i-LNPs, converting the detection of i-LNPs into the detection of double-cholesterol probes. Finally, the end of the dual-chol probes initiated the localized scaffolding autocatalytic DNA circuits (SADC) system for further signal amplification. The SADC system provides a sensitive and efficient amplifier through localized network structures and self-assembled triggers. Simultaneous recognition of i-LNPs surface PEG-lipid and lipid bilayer structures significantly eliminates interference from biological samples. i-LNPs were detected with high selectivity, ranging from 0.2 to 1.25 mg/mL with a limit of detection of 0.1 mg/mL. Moreover, this method allows the isolation and quantitative analysis of different formulations of i-LNPs in serum samples with a satisfactory recovery rate ranging from 94.8 to 116.3%. Thus, the DR-FELISA method provides an advanced platform for the exclusive and sensitive detection of i-LNPs, providing new insights for the study of the quality and intracorporal process of complex formulations.

RESUMO

Spinal cord injury (SCI) is a highly disabling neurological disorder that is difficult to treat due to its complex pathophysiology and nerve regeneration difficulties. Hence, effective SCI treatments are necessary. Olfactory ensheathing cells (OECs), glial cells derived from the olfactory bulb or mucosa, are ideal candidates for SCI treatment because of their neuroprotective and regenerative properties, ample supply, and convenience. In vitro, animal model, and human trial studies have reported discoveries on OEC transplantation; however, shortcomings have also been demonstrated. Recent studies have optimized various OEC transplantation strategies, including drug integration, biomaterials, and gene editing. This review aims to introduce OECs mechanisms in repairing SCI, summarize the research progress of OEC transplantation-optimized strategies, and provide novel research ideas for SCI treatment.

Understanding how life history shapes genetic diversity is a fundamental issue in evolutionary biology, with important consequences for conservation. However, we still have an incomplete picture of the impact of life history on genome-wide patterns of diversity, especially in long-lived semelparous plants. Puya raimondii is a high-altitude semelparous species from the Andes that flowers at 40-100 years of age. We sequenced the whole genome and estimated the nucleotide diversity of 200 individuals sampled from nine populations. Coalescent-based approaches were then used to infer past population dynamics. Finally, these results were compared with results obtained for the iteroparous species, Puya macrura. The nine populations of P. raimondii were highly divergent, highly inbred, and carried an exceptionally high genetic load. They are genetically depauperate, although, locally in the genome, balancing selection contributed to the maintenance of genetic polymorphism. While both P. raimondii and P. macrura went through a severe bottleneck during the Pleistocene, P. raimondii did not recover from it and continuously declined, while P. macrura managed to bounce back. Our results demonstrate the importance of life history, in particular generation time and reproductive strategy, in affecting population dynamics and genomic variation, and illustrate the genetic fragility of long-lived semelparous plants.

Endosomal single-stranded RNA-sensing Toll-like receptor-7/8 (TLR7/8) plays a pivotal role in inflammation and immune responses and autoimmune diseases. However, the mechanisms underlying the initiation of the TLR7/8-mediated autoimmune signaling remain to be fully elucidated. Here, we demonstrate that miR-574-5p is aberrantly upregulated in tissues of lupus prone mice and in the plasma of lupus patients, with its expression levels correlating with the disease activity. miR-574-5p binds to and activates human hTLR8 or its murine ortholog mTlr7 to elicit a series of MyD88-dependent immune and inflammatory responses. These responses include the overproduction of cytokines and interferons, the activation of STAT1 signaling and B lymphocytes, and the production of autoantigens. In a transgenic mouse model, the induction of miR-574-5p overexpression is associated with increased secretion of antinuclear and anti-dsDNA antibodies, increased IgG and C3 deposit in the kidney, elevated expression of inflammatory genes in the spleen. In lupus-prone mice, lentivirus-mediated silencing of miR-574-5p significantly ameliorates major symptoms associated with lupus and lupus nephritis. Collectively, these results suggest that the miR-574-5p-hTLR8/mTlr7 signaling is an important axis of immune and inflammatory responses, contributing significantly to the development of lupus and lupus nephritis.

BACKGROUND: VS-505 (AP301), an acacia and ferric oxyhydroxide polymer, is a novel fiber-iron-based phosphate binder. This two-part phase 2 study evaluated the tolerability, safety, and efficacy of oral VS-505 administered three times daily with meals in treating hyperphosphatemia in chronic kidney disease (CKD) patients receiving maintenance hemodialysis (MHD). METHODS: In Part 1, patients received dose-escalated treatment with VS-505 2.25, 4.50, and 9.00 g/day for 2 weeks each, guided by serum phosphorus levels. In Part 2, patients received randomized, open-label, fixed-dosage treatment with VS-505 (1.50, 2.25, 4.50, or 6.75 g/day) or sevelamer carbonate 4.80 g/day for 6 weeks. The primary efficacy endpoint was the change in serum phosphorus. RESULTS: The study enrolled 158 patients (Part 1: 25; Part 2: 133), with 130 exposed to VS-505 in total. VS-505 was well tolerated. The most common adverse events were gastrointestinal disorders, mainly feces discolored (56%) and diarrhea (15%; generally during weeks 1‒2 of treatment). Most gastrointestinal disorders resolved without intervention, and none were serious. In Part 1, serum phosphorus significantly improved (mean change -2.0 mg/dL; 95% confidence interval -2.7, -1.4) after VS-505 dose escalation. In Part 2, serum phosphorus significantly and dose-dependently improved in all VS-505 arms, with clinically meaningful reductions with VS-505 4.50 and 6.75 g/day, and sevelamer carbonate 4.80 g/day (mean change -1.6 (-2.2, -1.0), -1.8 (-2.4, -1.2), and -1.4 (-2.2, -0.5) mg/dL, respectively). In both Parts, serum phosphorus reductions occurred within 1 week of VS-505 initiation, returning to baseline within 2 weeks of VS-505 discontinuation. CONCLUSION: VS-505, a novel phosphate binder, was well tolerated with a manageable safety profile, and effectively and dose-dependently reduced serum phosphorus in CKD patients with hyperphosphatemia receiving MHD. Circadian disruption such as shift work, jet lag, has gradually become a global health issue and is closely associated with various metabolic disorders. The influence and mechanism of circadian disruption on renal injury in chronic kidney disease (CKD) remains inadequately understood. Here, we evaluated the impact of environmental light disruption on the progression of chronic renal injury in CKD mice. By using two abnormal light exposure models to induce circadian disruption, we found that circadian disruption induced by weekly light/dark cycle reversal (LDDL) significantly exacerbated renal dysfunction, accelerated renal injury, and promoted renal fibrosis in mice with 5/6 nephrectomy and unilateral ureteral obstruction (UUO). Mechanistically, RNA-seq analysis revealed significant immune and metabolic disorder in the LDDL-conditioned CKD kidneys. Consistently, renal content of ATP was decreased and ROS production was increased in the kidney tissues of the LDDL-challenged CKD mice. Untargeted metabolomics revealed a significant buildup of lipids in the kidney affected by LDDL. Notably, the level of ß-NMN, a crucial intermediate in the NAD+ pathway, was found to be particularly reduced. Moreover, we demonstrated that both ß-NMN and melatonin administration could significantly rescue the light-disruption associated kidney dysfunction. In conclusion, environmental circadian disruption may exacerbate chronic kidney injury by facilitating inflammatory responses and disturbing metabolic homeostasis. ß-NMN and melatonin treatments may hold potential as promising approaches for preventing and treating light-disruption associated CKD.

Computational exploration using the density functional theory framework (M06-2X-D3/def2-TZVP) was undertaken to investigate the [1 + 2] cycloaddition reaction between a five-membered-ring heterocyclic carbene analogue (G14-Rea; G14 = group 14 element) and a heavy acetylene molecule (G14G14-Rea). It was theoretically observed that exclusively Si-Rea, Ge-Rea, and Sn-Rea demonstrate the capacity to participate in the [1 + 2] cycloaddition reaction with the triply bonded SiSi-Rea. In addition, only three heavy acetylenes (SiSi-Rea, GeGe-Rea, and SnSn-Rea) can catalyze the [1 + 2] cycloaddition reaction with Si-Rea. Our theoretical findings elucidated that the reactivity trend observed in these [1 + 2] cycloaddition reactions primarily arise from the deformation energies of the distorted G14G14-Rea. Also, our study reveals that the bonding characteristics of their respective transition states are controlled by the singlet-singlet interaction (donor-acceptor interaction), rather than the triplet-triplet interaction (electron-sharing interaction). Additionally, our work demonstrates that the bonding behavior between G14-Rea and G14G14-Rea is predominantly determined by the filled p-π orbital of G14G14-Rea (HOMO) → the empty perpendicular p-π orbital of G14-Rea (LUMO), rather than the vacant p-π* orbital of G14G14-Rea (LUMO) ← the filled sp2 orbital of G14-Rea (HOMO).

BACKGROUND: The predictive value of systemic inflammatory response index (SIRI) for stroke-associated pneumonia (SAP) risk in patients with acute ischemic stroke (AIS) treated by thrombectomy remains unclear. This study aimed to investigate the predictive value of SIRI for SAP in patients with AIS treated by thrombectomy. METHODS: We included AIS patients treated by thrombectomy between August 2018 and August 2022 at our institute. We used multivariate logistic regression to construct the prediction model and performed a receiver operating characteristic curve analysis to evaluate the ability of SIRI to predict SAP and constructed a calibration curve to evaluate the prediction accuracy of the model. We evaluated the clinical application value of the nomogram using decision curve analysis. RESULTS: We included 84 eligible patients with AIS in the analysis, among which 56 (66.7%) had SAP. In the univariate analysis, there were significant differences in sex (p = 0.035), National Institute of Health Stroke Scale score at admission ≥ 20 (p = 0.019) and SIRI (p < 0.001). The results of multivariable logistic analysis showed that the risk of SAP increased with the SIRI value (OR = 1.169, 95% CI = 1.049-1.344, p = 0.014). Age ≥ 60 (OR = 4.076, 95% CI = 1.251-14.841, p = 0.024) was also statistically significant. A nomogram with SIRI showed good prediction accuracy for SAP in AIS patients treated by thrombectomy (C-index value = 0.774). CONCLUSIONS: SIRI is an independent predictor for SAP in patients with AIS treated by thrombectomy. A high SIRI value may allow for the early identification of patients with AIS treated by thrombectomy at high risk for SAP.

In aerospace and downhole exploration, materials must function reliably in challenging environments characterized by high temperatures and complex electromagnetic (EM) interference. Graphene oxide (GO) aerogels are promising materials for thermal insulation, and the incorporation of silicon carbide nanowires can enhance their mechanical properties, thermal stability and EM absorption efficiency. In this context, citric acid acts as both a cross-linking and reducing agent, facilitating the formation of a composite aerogel comprising GO and SiC nanowires (rGO/m-SiC NWs). Compared with GO aerogels, the representative composite aerogel sample rGS4 demonstrated significantly improved mechanical properties (yield strength increased by 0.031 MPa), outstanding thermal stability (ability to withstand temperatures up to 800 °C) and remarkably low thermal conductivity (measuring just 0.061 W m-1K-1). Importantly, the composite aerogels displayed impressive EM absorption characteristics, including a slim profile (2.5 mm), high absorption capacity (-42.23 dB) and an exceptionally broad effective absorption bandwidth (7.47 GHz). Notably, the specific effective absorption bandwidth of composite aerogels exceeded that of similar composite materials. In conclusion, rGO/m-SiC NWs exhibited exceptional mechanical properties, remarkable thermal stability, efficient thermal insulation and outstanding microwave absorption capabilities. These findings highlight their potential for use in high-temperature and electromagnetically challenging environments.

BACKGROUND: The HAP, Six-and-Twelve, Up to Seven, and ALBI scores have been substantiated as reliable prognostic markers in patients presenting with intermediate and advanced hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) undergoing transarterial chemoembolization (TACE) treatment. Given this premise, our research aims to assess the predictive efficacy of these models in patients with intermediate and advanced HCC receiving a combination of TACE and Apatinib. Additionally, we have conducted a meticulous comparative analysis of these four scoring systems to discern their respective predictive capacities and efficacies in combined therapy. METHODS: Performing a retrospective analysis on the clinical data from 200 patients with intermediate and advanced HCC, we studied those who received TACE combined with Apatinib at the First Affiliated Hospital of the University of Science and Technology of China between June 2018 and December 2022. To identify the factors affecting survival, the study performed univariate and multivariate Cox regression analyses, with calculations of four different scores: HAP, Six-and-Twelve, Up to Seven, and ALBI. Lastly, Harrell's C-index was employed to compare the prognostic abilities of these scores. RESULTS: Cox proportional hazards model results revealed that the ALBI score, presence of portal vein tumor thrombus (PVTT, )and tumor size are independent determinants of prognostic survival. The Kaplan-Meier analyses showed significant differences in survival rates among patients classified by the HAP, Six-and-Twelve, Up to Seven, and ALBI scoring methods. Of the evaluated systems, the HAP scoring demonstrated greater prognostic precision, with a Harrell's C-index of 0.742, surpassing the alternative models (P < 0.05). In addition, an analysis of the area under the AU-ROC curve confirms the remarkable superiority of the HAP score in predicting short-term survival outcomes. CONCLUSION: Our study confirms the predictive value of HAP, Six-and-Twelve, Up to Seven, and ALBI scores in intermediate to advanced Hepatocellular Carcinoma (HCC) patients receiving combined Transarterial Chemoembolization (TACE) and Apatinib therapy. Notably, the HAP model excels in predicting outcomes for this specific HCC subgroup.

To identify the role of enterotoxin-related genes in colorectal cancer (CRC) development and progression. Upregulated differentially expressed genes shared by three out of five Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) data sets were included to screen the key enterotoxin-induced oncogenes (EIOGs) according to criteria oncogene definition, enrichment, and protein-protein interaction (PPI) network analysis, followed by prognosis survival, immune infiltration, and protential drugs analyses was performed via integration of RNA-sequencing data and The Cancer Genome Atlas-derived clinical profiles. We screened nine common key EIOGs from at least three GEO data sets. A Cox proportional hazards regression models verified that more alive cases, decreased overall survival, and highest 4-year survival prediction in CRC patients with high-risk score. Protein tyrosine phosphatase receptor type F polypeptide-interacting protein alpha-4 (PPFIA4), STY11, SCN3B, and SPTBN5 were shared in the same PPI network. Immune infiltration results showed that SCN3B and synaptotagmin 11 expression were obviously associated with B cell, macrophage, myeloid dendritic cell, neutrophils, and T cell CD4+ and CD8+ in both colon adenocarcinoma and rectal adenocarcinoma. CHIR-99021, MLN4924, and YK4-279 were identified as the potential drugs for treatment. Finally, upregulated EIOGs genes PPFIA4 and SCN3B were found in colon adenocarcinoma and PPFIA4 and SCN3B were proved to promote cell proliferation and migration in vitro. We demonstrated here that EIOGs promoting a malignancy phenotype was related with poor survival and prognosis in CRC, which might be served as novel therapeutic targets in CRC management.

BACKGROUND: Repetitive mild traumatic brain injury (rmTBI) often occurs in individuals engaged in contact sports, particularly boxing. This study aimed to elucidate the effects of rmTBI on phase-locking value (PLV)-based graph theory and functional network architecture in individuals with boxing-related injuries in five frequency bands by employing resting-state electroencephalography (EEG). METHODS: Twenty-fore professional boxers and 25 matched healthy controls were recruited to perform a resting-state task, and their noninvasive scalp EEG data were collected simultaneously. Based on the construction of PLV matrices for boxers and controls, phase synchronization and graph-theoretic characteristics were identified in each frequency band. The significance of the calculated functional brain networks between the two populations was analyzed using a network-based statistical (NBS) approach. RESULTS: Compared to controls, boxers exhibited an increasing trend in PLV synchronization and notable differences in the distribution of functional centers, especially in the gamma frequency band. Additionally, attenuated nodal network parameters and decreased small-world measures were observed in the theta, beta, and gamma bands, suggesting that the functional network efficiency and small-world characteristics were significantly weakened in boxers. NBS analysis revealed that boxers exhibited a significant increase in network connectivity strength compared to controls in the theta, beta, and gamma frequency bands. The functional connectivity of the significance subnetworks exhibited an asymmetric distribution between the bilateral hemispheres, indicating that the optimized organization of information integration and segregation for the resting-state networks was imbalanced and disarranged for boxers. CONCLUSIONS: This is the first study to investigate the underlying deficits in PLV-based graph-theoretic characteristics and NBS-based functional networks in patients with rmTBI from the perspective of whole-brain resting-state EEG. Joint analyses of distinctive graph-theoretic representations and asymmetrically hyperconnected subnetworks in specific frequency bands may serve as an effective method to assess the underlying deficiencies in resting-state network processing in patients with sports-related rmTBI.

OBJECTIVE: To analyze the risk factors associated with postoperative stroke complications in cardiac surgery. METHODS: A retrospective analysis was conducted on the clinical data of 549 patients who underwent cardiac surgery. Among these patients, 501 did not experience a stroke postoperatively (non-stroke group), while 48 developed a postoperative stroke (stroke group). Patients who experienced a stroke postoperatively were divided into two groups based on the type of surgery: those who underwent surgery with cardiopulmonary bypass (18 patients) and those without cardiopulmonary bypass (30 patients). The clinical characteristics of the two groups of patients with postoperative strokes were compared, and the risk factors influencing the occurrence of postoperative stroke complications in cardiac surgery were analyzed. RESULTS: ① Clinical findings: Cardiopulmonary bypass group had lower cortical infarction rates but higher large-area and bilateral infarction rates compared to the non-cardiopulmonary bypass group (p < 0.05). No significant gender, age, or infarction type differences were observed (p > 0.05). ② Univariate analysis: No significant differences were found in gender, smoking, alcohol, lipids, or glucose levels (p > 0.05). However, age, education, hypertension, diabetes, hypotension, and atrial fibrillation showed significant differences (p < 0.05). ③ Multivariate Logistic regression: Age, education, hypertension, diabetes, hypotension, and atrial fibrillation were independent risk factors for postoperative stroke complications (p < 0.05). CONCLUSION: Cardiopulmonary bypass increases risk of large-area and bilateral strokes; non-bypass surgery associates with cortical strokes. Age, educational level, hypertension, diabetes, postoperative hypotension, and atrial fibrillation are all factors independently associated with the occurrence of postoperative cerebral infarctions in cardiac surgery. Early interventions may reduce postoperative strokes.

This paper details the design and implementation of a harmonic frequency-modulated continuous-wave (FMCW) radar system, specialized in detecting harmonic tags and achieving precise range estimation. Operating within the 2.4-2.5 GHz frequency range for the forward channel and 4.8-5.0 GHz for the backward channel, this study delves into the various challenges faced during the system's realization. These challenges include selecting appropriate components, calibrating the system, processing signals, and integrating the system components. In addition, we introduce a single-layer passive harmonic tag, developed specifically for assessing the system, and provide an in-depth theoretical analysis and simulation results. Notably, the system is characterized by its low power consumption, making it particularly suitable for short-range applications. The system's efficacy is further validated through experimental evaluations in a real-world indoor environment across multiple tag positions. Our measurements underscore the system's robust ranging accuracy and its ability to mitigate self-interference, showcasing its significant potential for applications in harmonic tag detection and ranging.

BACKGROUND: Markers that can be used to evaluate the prognosis of patients with head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) remain undefined. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to investigate the prognostic impact of preoperative neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR), platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio (PLR), and lymphocyte-to-monocyte ratio (LMR) in patients with HNSCC who underwent surgery-based treatment for the first time. METHODS: This retrospective study included patients HNSCC who underwent surgery-based treatment at our institution between January 2018 and December 2020. Specificity and sensitivity were analyzed using receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves and the critical value was determined. Patients were divided into low and high groups according to NLR, PLR, and LMR the critical value. Log-rank and Cox proportional hazards models were used to evaluate the associations between preoperative NLR, PLR, LMR, and overall survival (OS). RESULTS: A total of 304 patients with HNSCC were included, of whom 190 (62.5%) and 114 (37.5%), 203 (66.8%) and 101 (33.2%), 98 (32.2%), and 206 (67.8%) cases were classified as low NLR and high NLR groups, low PLR and high PLR groups, and low LMR and high LMR groups, respectively. Univariate analysis showed that white blood cell count (WBC), neutrophil count (NEU), platelet count (PLT), NLR, pathologic N stage (pN stage), TNM stage and postoperative complications were significantly associated with OS (p < 0.05). Multivariate analysis showed that NEU, NLR, TNM stage and postoperative complications were independent negative prognostic factors for HNSCC (p < 0.05). CONCLUSION: Preoperative NLR is an independent negative prognostic factor for HNSCC. Patients with an increased NLR may have a poor OS.

Dendrobium huoshanense is a famous edible and medicinal herb, and polysaccharides are the main bioactive component in it. In this study, response surface methodology (RSM) combined with a Box-Behnken design (BBD) was used to optimize the enzyme-assisted extraction (EAE), ultrasound-microwave-assisted extraction (UMAE), and hot water extraction (HWE) conditions and obtain the polysaccharides named DHP-E, DHP-UM, and DHP-H. The effects of different extraction methods on the physicochemical properties, structure characteristics, and bioactivity of polysaccharides were compared. The differential thermogravimetric curves indicated that DHP-E showed a broader temperature range during thermal degradation compared with DHP-UM and DHP-H. The SEM results showed that DHP-E displayed an irregular granular structure, but DHP-UM and DHP-H were sponge-like. The results of absolute molecular weight indicated that polysaccharides with higher molecular weight detected in DHP-H and DHP-UM did not appear in DHP-E due to enzymatic degradation. The monosaccharide composition showed that DHPs were all composed of Man, Glc, and Gal but with different proportions. Finally, the glycosidic bond types, which have a significant effect on bioactivity, were decoded with methylation analysis. The results showed that DHPs contained four glycosidic bond types, including Glcp-(1→, →4)-Manp-(1→, →4)-Glcp-(1→, and →4,6)-Manp-(1→ with different ratios. Furthermore, DHP-E exhibited better DPPH and ABTS radical scavenging activities. These findings could provide scientific foundations for selecting appropriate extraction methods to obtain desired bioactivities for applications in the pharmaceutical and functional food industries.

Sports tourism represents a novel industrial manifestation of the profound integration between the tourism and sports sectors. The objective of this research is to examine an innovative multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) method for the sustainability evaluation of sports tourism. The largest innovations are the expression and treatment of ambiguous data and interdependent evaluation criteria in the sports tourism sustainability evaluation process. On the one hand, intricate assessment data is represented using linguistic neutrosophic numbers (LNNs), which employ three linguistic variables to convey uncertainty and imprecision. On the other hand, to effectively capture the interrelationships among inputs, two novel aggregation operators are proposed. They are devised based on the Einstein operations and Heronian mean operators of LNNs. Subsequently, a linguistic neutrosophic evaluation method utilizing the aforementioned operators is presented. Comparative and sensitivity analyses conclude that great interdependence exists among five different dimensions of sustainability evaluation in sports tourism, and the proposed method can reflect the interrelations among inputs without redundant calculations.

Incomplete combustion yields a significant byproduct, known for its high toxicity to humans: gas phase carbon monoxide (CO). This study utilized several advanced theoretical methods to examine the factors contributing to the activation energy involved in CO capture by a frustrated Lewis pair (FLP) and to forecast the potential success of the CO capture reaction. The current theoretical findings indicate that among the four-membered-ring Group-13/N-FLP and B/Group-15-FLP molecules, only the B/N-based FLP-type molecule effectively captures CO, considering both thermodynamics and kinetics. According to the results obtained through energy decomposition analysis-natural orbitals for chemical valence (EDA-NOCV), it can be concluded that the donor-acceptor (singlet-singlet) model, rather than the electron-sharing (triplet-triplet) model, effectively characterizes the electronic structures in the CO trapping reaction involving four-membered-ring G13/G15-FLPs. Theoretical findings, derived from EDA-NOCV and frontier molecular orbital theory, demonstrate that the CO capture reaction by G13/G15-FLP involves two distinct bonding interactions. The first interaction is characterized by FLP-to-CO forward bonding, with the lone pair of G15 (G13/G15-FLP) donating to the empty p-π* orbital of carbon (CO), which predominates. The second interaction involves CO-to-FLP backward bonding, where the empty σ* orbital of G13 (G13/G15-FLP) accepts the lone pair of carbon (CO), albeit to a lesser extent. In summary, our theoretical findings indicate that the G13-C and G15-C bonds in the G15/G15-TS species with a four-membered ring can be classified as two dative single bonds. The importance of the interaction between Lewis bases and CO surpasses that of the interaction between Lewis acids and CO. Theoretical evidences in this study demonstrate a linear connection between the G13-G15 bond length within the four-membered-ring G13/G15-FLP and the activation barrier linked to CO capture. The activation strain model analysis in this study suggests that the activation energy required for bond formation primarily depends on the geometric deformation energy of G13/G15-FLP in capturing CO. Our DFT investigation shows that Hammond's postulate is obeyed by the CO catching reaction of the four-membered-ring G13/N-FLP, meaning that an earlier transition state is associated with a lower activation barrier, but not with the CO catching reaction of the four-membered-ring B/G15-FLP.

The effect of chemical element on the reactivity for carbazolation reaction of phenylacetylene utilizing G13(C6F5)3 (Lewis acid) and G15-carbazole (Lewis base) was theoretically investigated using density functional theory (M06-2X-D3/def2-TZVP), where G13 represents Group 13 elements and G15 represents Group 15 elements. Through activation strain model (ASM) analysis, it is apparent that the reactivity of the entire carbazolation reaction is chiefly governed by the structural strain energy of the alkyne fragment. In other words, if G13(C6F5)3 or G15-carbazole features an atomic radius that is either too small (e.g., B atom) or too large (e.g., Tl or Bi atom), it results in inadequate orbital overlap between the reactants due to the impact of steric effects. This, in turn, results in an elevation of the activation energy for such reactions, thereby impeding the alkyne from undergoing the carbazole catalytic reaction. In light of the above analyses, our theoretical findings suggest that, except for Tl(C6F5)3, the other four Lewis acid catalysts (B(C6F5)3, Al(C6F5)3, Ga((C6F5)3, and In((C6F5)3) demonstrate effectiveness in catalyzing the carbazolation reaction of alkyne alongside with N-carbazole. Additionally, it is anticipated that, among the five categories of G15-carbazole molecules studied, only N-carbazole can participate in the carbazolation reaction with alkyne catalyzed by B(C6F5)3, considering both kinetic and thermodynamic factors at room temperature. Our theoretical investigations, as outlined in this study, indicate that the carbazolation reaction of the alkyne, catalyzed by G13(C6F5)3 and G15-carbazole, follows Hammond's postulate. To put it more plainly, when the transition state of the chemical reaction occurs earlier, it results in a decrease in activation energy.
