RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Post-radiation nasopharyngeal necrosis (PRNN) is a severe adverse event following re-radiotherapy for patients with locally recurrent nasopharyngeal carcinoma (LRNPC) and associated with decreased survival. Biological heterogeneity in recurrent tumors contributes to the different risks of PRNN. Radiomics can be used to mine high-throughput non-invasive image features to predict clinical outcomes and capture underlying biological functions. We aimed to develop a radiogenomic signature for the pre-treatment prediction of PRNN to guide re-radiotherapy in patients with LRNPC. METHODS: This multicenter study included 761 re-irradiated patients with LRNPC at four centers in NPC endemic area and divided them into training, internal validation, and external validation cohorts. We built a machine learning (random forest) radiomic signature based on the pre-treatment multiparametric magnetic resonance images for predicting PRNN following re-radiotherapy. We comprehensively assessed the performance of the radiomic signature. Transcriptomic sequencing and gene set enrichment analyses were conducted to identify the associated biological processes. RESULTS: The radiomic signature showed discrimination of 1-year PRNN in the training, internal validation, and external validation cohorts (area under the curve (AUC) 0.713-0.756). Stratified by a cutoff score of 0.735, patients with high-risk signature had higher incidences of PRNN than patients with low-risk signature (1-year PRNN rates 42.2-62.5% vs. 16.3-18.8%, P < 0.001). The signature significantly outperformed the clinical model (P < 0.05) and was generalizable across different centers, imaging parameters, and patient subgroups. The radiomic signature had prognostic value concerning its correlation with PRNN-related deaths (hazard ratio (HR) 3.07-6.75, P < 0.001) and all causes of deaths (HR 1.53-2.30, P < 0.01). Radiogenomics analyses revealed associations between the radiomic signature and signaling pathways involved in tissue fibrosis and vascularity. CONCLUSIONS: We present a radiomic signature for the individualized risk assessment of PRNN following re-radiotherapy, which may serve as a noninvasive radio-biomarker of radiation injury-associated processes and a useful clinical tool to personalize treatment recommendations for patients with LANPC.

RESUMO

Both organic solar cells (OSCs) and organic thermoelectrics (OTEs) are promising energy-harvesting technologies for future renewable and sustainable energy sources. Among various material systems, organic conjugated polymers are an emerging material class for the active layers of both OSCs and OTEs. However, organic conjugated polymers showing both OSC and OTE properties are rarely reported because of the different requirements toward the OSCs and OTEs. In this study, the first simultaneous investigation of the OSC and OTE properties of a wide-bandgap polymer PBQx-TF and its backbone isomer iso-PBQx-TF are reported. All wide-bandgap polymers form face-on orientations in a thin-film state, but PBQx-TF has more of a crystalline character than iso-PBQx-TF, originating from the backbone isomeric structures of α,α '/ß,ß '-connection between two thiophene rings. Additionally, iso-PBQx-TF shows inactive OSC and poor OTE properties, probably because of the absorption mismatch and unfavorable molecular orientations. At the same time, PBQx-TF exhibits both decent OSC and OTE performances, indicating that it satisfies the requirements for both OSCs and OTEs. This study presents the OSC and OTE dual-functional energy-harvesting wide-bandgap polymer and the future research directions for hybrid energy-harvesting materials.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is a chronic metabolic disease characterized by hyperglycemia and insulin resistance. Mung bean sprouts are traditionally considered a "folk" hypoglycemic food and their pharmacological effects and underlying mechanisms warrant further investigation. PURPOSE: This study aimed to investigate the anti-diabetic effects of the exosomes-like nanoparticles in mung bean sprouts (MELNs) and explore the related molecular mechanisms. RESULTS: MELNs were isolated using a differential centrifugation-polyethylene glycol (PEG) method, and the identification of MELNs were confirmed by PAGE gel electrophoresis, agarose gel electrophoresis, thin-layer chromatography (TLC), and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). In the high-fat diet/streptozotocin (HFD/STZ) mouse model, MELNs ameliorated the progression of T2DM by increasing oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT) and insulin tolerance test (ITT) results, decreasing the fasting blood glucose level, and reducing the serum triglycerides (TG) and total cholesterol (TC). Histopathological examinations indicated MELNs diminished inflammatory infiltration of hepatocytes and amplified the area of islet B cells. In addition, MELNs decreased the oxidative stress levels in liver tissue and had good biocompatibility. In vitro experiments verified that MELNs improved the viability of glucosamine (GlcN) induced insulin-resistant hepatocytes. Furthermore, this study also revealed that MELNs upregulated GLUT4 & Nrf2 and down-regulated GSK-3ß via activating the PI3K/Akt signaling pathway, promoting the production of antioxidant enzymes, such as HO-1 and SOD, to reduce oxidative stress. CONCLUSION: MELNs mitigated the progression of type 2 diabetes in HFD/STZ mouse model. The underlying molecular mechanism is related to PI3K/Akt/GLUT4/GSK-3ß signaling pathway.

RESUMO

Because of the immense difficulty in identifying Cyathulae Capitatae Radix adulteration in Cyathulae Radix, this research aims at fortifying the quality control of Cyathulae Radix and its decoction pieces to guarantee the effectiveness and safety of its clinical use in terms of source material. A method was devised to identify Cyathulae Capitatae Radix adulteration in Cyathulae Radix and its decoction pieces. This research takes achybidensaponin I, that is, the characteristic component of Cyathulae Capitatae Radix, as reference substance and adopts HPLC for detection. The results revealed that, among all samples collected, no trace of achybidensaponin I was found in the 21 batches of Cyathulae Radix, whereas achybidensaponin I was found in all the 14 batches of Cyathulae Capitatae Radix. The research sets 5% as the adulteration limit, that is, 1.45 mg/g Cyathulae Capitatae Radix was detected in 57.14% of the 49 batches of market samples collected and the ratio was 51.02% in the case of 5% adulteration limit. The method is not only precise and reliable but can also be used as a supplement for provisions regarding quality control of Cyathulae Radix and its decoction pieces in Pharmacopoeia of the People's Republic of China, to effectively crack down on Cyathulae Capitatae Radix adulteration in the market.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Learning and memory deficits and pathologic changes in the hippocampus caused by toothlessness and soft diet feeding are related to reduced masseter muscle (MM) function. OBJECTIVE: Myosin heavy chain (MyHC) isoform expression in the MM also changes under different chewing conditions. The neurotransmitter calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP) and vascular endothelial growth factor A (VEGF-A) are involved in MM formation. However, the relationship between CGRP, VEGF-A and MyHC isoforms in the MM in the senescence-accelerated mouse prone 8 (SAMP8) strain, a model of learning and memory deficits, remains unclear. METHODS: Changes in CGRP, VEGF-A, vasculogenesis marker and MyHC isoform mRNA expression in the MMs of ageing SAMP8 and senescence-accelerated mouse resistant 1 (SAMR1) mice was investigated through quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR) and in situ hybridization. RESULTS: qRT-PCR revealed obviously high CGRP levels in the SAMP8 mouse MM (p < .001). MyHC-IId/x mRNA expression in the MM was higher in 24-week-old SAMP8 mice than 24-week-old SAMR1 mice (p < .001) but lower in slow-MyHC SAMP8 mice than SAMR1 mice (p < .001). CGRP mRNA was observed on the muscle fibres of the SAMP8 mouse MM but not the SAMR1 mouse MM through in situ hybridization. Principal component analysis (PCA) revealed strong positive contributions of SAMP8-MyHC-IId/x, SAMP8-CGRP, SAMR1-MyHC-emb, SAMR1-CGRP, SAMR1-VEGF-A, SAMR1-CD31, SAMP8-VEGF-A, and SAMP8-CD31 in the MM at 12 and 24 weeks. CONCLUSION: Calcitonin gene-related peptide is also key for the MyHC-IId/x and slow-MyHC patterns in the MMs of SAMP8 mice.

RESUMO

Microcystins with leucine arginine (MC-LR) is a virulent hepatotoxin, which is commonly present in polluted water with its demethylated derivatives [Dha7] MC-LR. This study reported a low-cost molecularly imprinted polymer network-based electrochemical sensor for detecting MC-LR. The sensor was based on a three-dimensional conductive network composed of multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs), graphene quantum dots (GQDs), and gold nanoparticles (AuNPs). The molecularly imprinted polymer was engineered by quantum chemical computation utilizing p-aminothiophenol (p-ATP) and methacrylic acid (MAA) as dual functional monomers and L-arginine as a segment template. The electrochemical reaction mechanism of MC-LR on the sensor was studied for the first time, which is an irreversible electrochemical oxidation reaction involving an electron and two protons, and is controlled by a mixed adsorption-diffusion mechanism. The sensor exhibited a great detection response to MC-LR in the linear range of 0.08-2 µg/L, and the limit of detection (LOD) is 0.0027 µg/L (S/N = 3). In addition, the recoveries of the total amount of MC-LR and [Dha7] MC-LR in the actual sample by the obtained sensor were in the range from 91.4 to 116.7%, which indicated its great potential for environmental detection.

RESUMO

PURPOSE: This study focused on the detailed structure of microvessels of the neurotransmitter-positive vasa nervorum of the inferior alveolar nerve, vein, and artery in the mandibular canal (MC) to obtain information for improved safety in dental treatments. We also observed the detailed structure of the MC from the mental foramen to the mandibular foramen using cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT). METHODS: In this study, mandibles from 45 sides of 23 human cadavers aged 76-104 years were examined by microscopy, immunohistochemistry, and CBCT analysis. These data were further evaluated by principal component analysis (PCA). RESULTS: The microvessels of the vasa nervorum with calcitonin gene-related peptide- and neuropeptide Y-positive reactions were classified into 5 types: large (4.19%, 28/667); irregular large (7.35%, 49/667), numerous intermediate (29.23%, 195/667), irregular intermediate (29.23%, 195/667), and scattered fine (30.0%, 200/667) microvessels. The MC showed various structures from the 3rd molar to the premolars and was also classified into three types, including complete (57.0%, 228/400), partial (33.8%, 135/400), and unclear (9.2%, 37/400), from the mandibular foramen to the mental foramen. PCA results revealed that developed capillaries were mainly localized in the molar region. CONCLUSIONS: Fine microvessels of the vasa nervorum expressing neurotransmitters are present from the molar to premolar region, which is key information for mandibular dental treatments. The different microvessel structures also indicate differences in specific characteristics between dentulous and edentulous cadavers regarding oral surgical and implant treatments.

RESUMO

This study was designed to evaluate the protective effect of CPD1, a novel phosphodiesterase 5 inhibitor, on renal interstitial fibrosis after unilateral renal ischemia-reperfusion injury (UIRI). Male BALB/c mice were subjected to UIRI, and treated with CPD1 once daily (i.g, 5 mg/kg). Contralateral nephrectomy was performed on day 10 after UIRI, and the UIRI kidneys were harvested on day 11. Hematoxylin-eosin (HE), Masson trichrome and Sirius Red staining methods were used to observe the renal tissue structural lesions and fibrosis. Immunohistochemical staining and Western blot were used to detect the expression of proteins related to fibrosis. HE, Sirius Red and Masson trichrome staining showed that CPD1-treated UIRI mice had lower extent of tubular epithelial cell injury and deposition of extracellular matrix (ECM) in renal interstitium compared with those in the fibrotic mouse kidneys. The results from immunohistochemistry and Western blot assay indicated significantly decreased protein expressions of type I collagen, fibronectin, plasminogen activator inhibitor-1 (PAI-1) and α-smooth muscle actin (α-SMA) after CPD1 treatment. In addition, CPD1 dose-dependently inhibited the expression of ECM-related proteins induced by transforming growth factor ß1 (TGF-ß1) in normal rat kidney interstitial fibroblasts (NRK-49F) and human renal tubular epithelial cell line (HK-2). In summary, the novel PDE inhibitor, CPD1, displays strong protective effects against UIRI and fibrosis by suppressing TGF-ß signaling pathway and regulating the balance between ECM synthesis and degradation through PAI-1.

RESUMO

[Purpose] We aimed to investigate the relationship of thoracic asymmetry in standing position with asymmetry of the internal ankle moment in the frontal plane during gait. [Participants and Methods] The following measurements were recorded in 22 healthy adult males using a 3D motion analyzer and force plates: thoracic lateral deviation, asymmetrical ratios of the upper and lower thoracic shape, internal ankle moment in the frontal plane, mediolateral deviations of the center of mass and center of pressure. [Results] In the standing position, the thorax was deviated to the left relative to the pelvis, and the upper and lower thoracic shapes were asymmetrical. During gait, significant lateralities were observed in the internal ankle moment in the frontal plane, mediolateral deviations of the center of mass and the center of pressure. Significant positive correlations were observed between the asymmetrical ratio of the lower thoracic shape and both the asymmetry of the internal ankle moment in the frontal plane and the mediolateral deviation of the center of pressure. [Conclusion] These results suggest that thoracic asymmetry is associated with mediolateral control of the ankle during gait.

RESUMO

[Purpose] This study aimed to determine the relationship between thoracic lateral deviation, the bilateral ratio of the thoracic shape, and the bilateral ratio of the thoracic and lumbar iliocostalis muscles during resting sitting and thoracic lateral translation. [Participants and Methods] We included 23 healthy adult males in the study. The measurement tasks were resting sitting and thoracic lateral translation relative to the pelvis. The thoracic lateral deviation and bilateral ratio of the upper and lower thoracic shapes were measured using three-dimensional motion capture. The bilateral ratio of the thoracic and lumbar iliocostalis muscles were measured using the surface electromyographic recording. [Results] The bilateral ratio of the lower thoracic shape was significantly positively correlated with the thoracic translation distance and the bilateral ratio of the thoracic and iliocostalis muscles. In addition, the bilateral ratio of the thoracic iliocostalis muscles was significantly negatively correlated with the bilateral ratios of the lower thoracic shape and lumbar iliocostalis muscles. [Conclusion] Our findings showed that the asymmetry of the lower thoracic shape is associated with left lateral deviation of the thorax at rest and thoracic translation distance. In addition, the thoracic and lumbar iliocostalis muscle activity differed between the left and right translations.

RESUMO

Contact dermatitis usually presents as erythematous macules, papules, and vesicles. Sometimes, unusual clinical presentations of contact dermatitis are reported, including pustular, lymphomatoid, lichenoid, and pigmented variants. We describe the first patient with bullous irritant contact dermatitis caused by perfume, mimicking impetigo lesions. We report this case to raise awareness concerning the possibility of serious cutaneous reactions, such as bullous impetigo-like irritant contact dermatitis due to perfumes which are ubiquitous, especially after direct contact with the solution. Perfume ingredients, such as fragrance, solvents, and preservatives all may cause or contribute to irritant contact dermatitis.

RESUMO

Purpose: Renzhu ointment (Renzhuqigao, RZQG) is a patented herbal drug derived from Chinese traditional medicine formula and modern clinical experience for the transdermal treatment of non-infectious infantile diarrhoea. The safety of RZQG in preclinical studies has not been reported.Materials and methods: In this study, the pups of parent rats were examined for sub-chronic toxicity and developmental toxicity. After 21 days of birth, they were exposed to RZQG through their abdominal skin at doses of 0.1, 0.3, and 0.9 g/kg/day for 4 weeks and then were observed for another four weeks during their recovery period. Results: During the administration period, RZQG had no significant toxicological effect on body weight, food consumption, external eye examination, urinalysis, bone marrow examination, histopathology, central nervous system, reproductive system, or skeletal development. However, in the 0.9 g/kg/day group, the skin of some rats became dry and cracked, red and swollen, forming a white scab, while the white blood cells (WBC) count in female rats was lower and cholesterol (CHOL), triglycerides (TG), and glutamyl-transferase (GGT) were higher (p < 0.05).Conclusions: Rats receiving 0.9 g/kg/day exhibited skin irritation and were suspected to have a mild liver injury. There was no evidence of delayed toxicity four weeks after withdrawal. Therefore, the no-observed adverse effect level of RZQG was 0.3 g/kg/day (30 times the clinical dose planned and 4.92 times the human equivalent dose).

RESUMO

Chiral compounds commonly exist in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), but little research on the quality control of TCM has been conducted. In this study, a new strategy is proposed, taking Yuanhuzhitong tablet [YHZT, consisting of Radix Angelicae Dahuricae and Rhizoma Corydalis (Yan Hu Suo, YHS)] for example, which is based on chiral isomer ratio analysis to monitor the production process of Chinese patent medicine companies. In the process of content determination for tetrahydropalmatine (THP) in YHZT from different companies, noticeable differences were observed in their chromatographic behaviors. It is known that THP has two enantiomers, naturally coexisting in YHS as a racemic mixture, so we prepared THP twice and subsequently performed chiral separation analysis using supercritical fluid chromatography. As a result, the peak area ratios of two enantiomers from different companies varied remarkably, demonstrating that some companies did not probably manufacture YHZT products in accordance with the prescription proportion, used inferior or extracted YSH crude materials in the production process, and added raw chemical medicine in the production to reach the standard and lower the costs. In conclusion, the peak area ratio of chiral isomers could be taken as a key quality index.

RESUMO

Aspidopterys obcordata var. obcordata, a medicinal plant endemic to China, is a narrowly distributed species and wild resources are extremely limited. To evaluate the genetic variability and degree of genetic divergence of A. obcordata var. obcordata, and to make rational scientific decisions on its harvest and germplasm conservation, we collected 122 samples from across nearly all of its distribution area and studied genetic diversity using inter-simple sequence repeats (ISSRs), sequence-related amplified polymorphisms (SRAPs), and a method combining the two techniques. The results revealed the high genetic diversity of A. obcordata var. obcordata, mainly due to its intra-population diversity, and the top two populations with the highest levels of intra-population diversity were ML and DH, individuals of which can serve as excellent germplasm candidates during the processing of germplasm screening and conservation. In general, the combining method was prior to the ISSR analyses and SRAP analyses results, except for a slight difference in the genetic structure of individual populations. Therefore, we suggest that a combination analysis of the two marker methods is ideal for evaluating the genetic diversity and genetic relationships of A. obcordata var. obcordata.

RESUMO

Chitosan/organic rectorite (CTS/OREC) composites were prepared and characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectrometry and X-ray diffraction. Polyphenol oxidase (PPO) was immobilized on CTS/OREC by physical adsorption (APPO) and covalent binding (CPPO). Taguchi method was applied in the optimization of immobilization conditions resulting in the highest enzyme activity of 16.37 × 103 and 8.92 × 103U/g for APPO and CPPO, respectively. APPO enzyme activity was higher than that of CPPO, while CPPO showed the higher enzyme loading capacity than that of APPO. The removal percentage of phenolic compound, including phenol (PH), 4-chlorophenol (4-CP) and 2,4-dichlorophenol (2,4-DCP), by immobilized PPO was also explored. The results indicated that APPO was more efficient in phenolic compounds removal than CPPO. APPO contributed to a quick removal in the first hour, and the removal percentage of PH, 4-CP and 2,4-DCP could reach 69.3 ± 4.2%, 89.8 ± 2.5% and 93.8 ± 1.7% within 2 h, respectively. The order of removal percentage of phenolic compounds for both immobilized PPO was 2,4-DCP > 4-CP > PH. After 10 consecutive operations, the removal percentage of 2,4-DCP reached 73.2 ± 2.6% and 60.3 ± 1.5% for APPO and CPPO, respectively. The results introduced a novel support for PPO immobilization, and the immobilized PPO had great potential in wastewater treatment.

RESUMO

Neonatal maternal separation is an experimental model used to evaluate the effects of toxic stress in neonates, or early life stress. Although various physiological and psychological stresses during childhood have been reported, the effects of neonatal maternal separation on the male reproductive system remain unclear. Therefore, the present study evaluated the effects of neonatal maternal separation on the male reproductive system. In neonatal male ICR mice, maternal separation was performed for 0.5, 1, 2, and 4 hours/day, from postnatal day 1 to 10. At 10 weeks of age, the neonatal maternal separation mice exhibited decreases in both testicular weight and epididymal sperm number, along with various testicular morphological changes involving germ cells, Sertoli cells, and interstitial cells. Notably, neonatal maternal separation mice showed decreased numbers of Sertoli cells. Animals subjected to 0.5-, 1-, and 2-h/day neonatal maternal separation exhibited decreases in serum levels of testosterone but not in those of gonadotropin (luteinizing hormone and follicle-stimulating hormone). Together, these data showed that neonatal maternal separation in male mice causes decreased Sertoli cell numbers following puberty, resulting in subsequent decreased spermatogenic activity.

RESUMO

Medicinal plants are beneficial to human health. However, most of the major producing regions of medicinal plants suffer from rust disease, which threatens the yield and quality of Chinese medicinal materials, thus causes huge economic loss, and hinders the sustainable development of the Chinese medicine industry. By the end of 2020,rust disease had been reported in medicinal plants of 76 species and 33 families. In the 76 species,79 rust pathogens were detected. The majority of these pathogens belonged to Puccinia( 33,39. 24%),Coleosporium( 14,15. 19%),and Aecidium( 11,13. 92%). Of these 79 rust pathogens,10 were autoecious and 13 were heteroecious. Through literature research, this study reviewed the symptoms, pathogen species, severity and distribution, prevalence and occurrence conditions, and control measures of rust disease in medicinal plants, and thereby summarized the research status of rust disease in medicinal plants and the gap with other plants, which is expected to serve as a reference for further research on rust disease in medicinal plants.

RESUMO

Resina Draconis, a rare and precious traditional medicine in China, is known as the "holy medicine for promoting blood circulation". According to the national drug standard, it's derived from the resin extracted from the wood of Dracaena cochinchinensis, a Liliaceae plant. In addition, a variety of Dracaena species all over the world can form red resins, and there is currently no molecular identification method that can efficiently identify the origin of Dracaena medicinal materials. In this study, seven species of Dracaena distributed in China were selected as the research objects. Four commonly used DNA barcodes(ITS2, matK, rbcL and psbA-trnH), and four highly variable regions(trnP-psaJ, psbK-psbI, trnT-trnL, clpP) in chloroplast genome were used to evaluate the identification efficiency of Dracaena species. The results showed that clpP sequence fragment could accurately identify seven species of Dracaena plants. However, due to the long sequence of clpP fragment, there were potential problems in the practical application process. We found that the combined fragment "psbK-psbI+ trnP-psaJ" can also be used for accurate molecular identification of the Resina Draconis origin plants and relative species of Dracaena, which were both relatively short sequences in the combined fragment, showing high success rates of amplification and sequencing. Therefore, the "psbK-psbI+ trnP-psaJ" combined fragment can be used as the DNA barcode fragments for molecular identification of Resina Dracon's origin plants and relative species of Dracaena. Research on the identification of Dracaena species, the results of this study can be used to accurately identify the original material of Resina Draconis, and providing effective means for identification, rational development and application of Resina Draconis base source.

RESUMO

Routine test of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF), such as glucose concentrations, chloride ion, protein and leukocyte, as well as color, turbidity and clot, were important indicators for intracranial infection. However, there were no models to predict the intracranial infection with these parameters. We collected data of 221 cases with CSF positive-culture and 50 cases with CSF negative culture from January 1, 2016 to December 31, 2018 in the First Affiliated Hospital of Nanchang University, China. SPSS17.0 software was used to establish the model by adopting seven described indicators, and P < 0.05 was considered as statistically significant. Meanwhile, 40 cases with positive-culture and 10 cases with negative-culture were selected to verify the sensitivity and specificity of the model. The results showed that each parameter was significant in the model establishment (P < 0.05). To extract the above seven parameters, the interpretation model C was established, and C = 0.952-0.183 × glucose value (mmol/L) - 0.024 × chloride ion value (mmol/L)- 0.000122 × protein value (mg/L) - 0.0000859 × number of leukocytes per microliter (× 106/L) + 1.354 × color number code + 0.236 × turbidity number code + 0.691 × clot number code. In addition, the diagnostic sensitivity and specificity of the model were 85.0 and 100%, respectively. The combining application of seven physicochemical parameters of CSF might be of great value in the diagnosis of intracranial infection for adult patients.

RESUMO

The study aims at exploring the composition and characteristics of the medicinal plant resources of six major ethnic minorities living in Xishuangbanna, as well as the characteristics of traditional utilization of ethnic medicine, and promote the rational protection and inheritance and utilization of ethnic medicine resources and traditional knowledge. Based on the fourth survey of traditional Chinese medicine resources in Xishuangbanna, Yunnan province, through the methods of literature collection, interviewing and field investigation, this paper analyzed the data of the types, medicinal parts and attending diseases of medicinal plant resources of Dai, Hani, Jinuo, Wa, Lahu and Bulang nationalities. The results showed that there were 1 048 medicinal plant resources of the six ethnic minorities, and the medicinal plants were 735, 497, 272, 295, 280 and 49 in the six nationalities, respectively. The cross-use of medicinal plants among the six nationalities accounted for 62.45%, 78.07%, 88.60%, 87.46%, 82.25% and 95.92%, respectively. The main medicinal plants used by the six major ethnic minorities are root and rhizome, whole grass, leaf and stem. Various ethnic medicinal plants are mainly used in the treatment of diseases of digestive system, respiratory system, rheumatic disease, trauma, snake and insect bite and other external diseases. This study showed that Xishuangbanna has rich resources of ethnic medicinal plants. The ethnic medicine culture with Dai medicine as the main part has a long history and diversified theories, forming a unique ethnic characteristic culture. However, all ethnic medicine resources and the application of traditional knowledge are faced with the risk of gradually decreasing, it is suggested to strengthen the mining, Xishuangbanna folk medicine of ethnic culture protection and inheri-tance, and to develop regional economy and the international community has a positive influence.
