RESUMO

The bottleneck in the preparation of supercapacitors is how to develop high-energy and high-power-density devices by using appropriate materials. Herein, a novel NixCo3-x-B/GO heterostructure material was synthesized through a simple ultrasonic and precipitation method. The prepared NixCo3-x-B/GO heterostructure exhibits significant improvements in supercapacitor performance than NixCo3-x-B. The presence of GO effectively suppresses the excessive growth and accumulation of NixCo3-x-B; therefore, Ni2.7Co0.3-B/GO exhibits the best performance as an electrode material for supercapacitors: a high specific capacitance (Cm, 1789.72 F g-1@1 A g-1) and excellent rate performance. The asymmetric supercapacitor (ASC) device of Ni2.7Co0.3-B/GO//AC exhibits a Cm of 76.6 F g-1@1 A g-1, a large voltage window of 1.6 V, and a high energy density (ED) of 98.0 Wh kg-1. Furthermore, a flexible, all-solid-state supercapacitor assembled with Ni2.7Co0.3-B/GO as both the positive and negative electrodes demonstrates a Cm of 46.9 F g-1@1 A g-1. Even after multiple folding and bending at various angles, the device maintains excellent performance, showcasing remarkable stability. With a power density (PD) of 479.7 W kg-1, the device achieves a high ED of 60.0 Wh kg-1. This work provides valuable insights into the synergistic effects in electrochemical processes based on heterostructure materials.

Cat scratch disease (CSD) is caused by Bartonella henselae (B. henselae) and presents as lymphadenopathy following close contact with cats. However, in context of the global COVID-19 pandemic, clinical manifestations of CSD may vary, posing new challenges for healthcare professionals. Here we describe a case of a 54-year-old male with painful left upper arm mass, which gradually resolved until he was infected with COVID-19. The mass then rapidly progressed before admission. Meanwhile, pulmonary symptoms including pleural effusion emerged simultaneously. The cause was undetermined with routine blood culture and pathological test until the next generation sequencing (NGS) confirmed the presence of B. henselae. We believe this case is the first to report localized aggravation of CSD after COVID-19 infection and hopefully, offers treatment experience for clinicians worldwide.

BACKGROUND: While suture anchors are widely used in medical procedures for their advantages, they can sometimes lead to complications, including anchor prolapse. This article presents a unique case of suture anchor prolapse at the base of the distal phalanx of the little finger after extensor tendon rupture reconstruction surgery. CASE PRESENTATION: A 35-year-old male, underwent extensor tendon rupture reconstruction using a non-absorbable suture anchor. After seven years the patient visited our outpatients complaining of stiffness, pain, and protrusion at the surgical site. Initial X-ray imaging suggested suggesting either a fracture of the distal phalanx or tendon adhesion but lacked a definitive diagnosis. Subsequent magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) revealed bone connectivity between the middle and distal phalanges with irregular signal shadow and unclear boundaries while maintaining a regular finger shape. MRI proved superior in diagnosing prolapsed suture anchors, marking the first reported case of its kind. Surgical intervention confirmed MRI findings. CONCLUSIONS: Suture anchor complications, such as prolapse, are a concern in medical practice. This case underscores the significance of MRI for accurate diagnosis and the importance of tailored surgical management in addressing this uncommon complication.

OBJECTIVE: To develop a novel logistic regression model based on liver/spleen volumes and portal vein diameter measured on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) for predicting oesophagogastric variceal bleeding (OVB) secondary to HBV cirrhosis. METHODS: One hundred eighty-five consecutive cirrhotic patients with hepatitis B undergoing abdominal contrast-enhanced MRI were randomly divided into training cohort (n = 130) and validation cohort (n = 55). Spleen volume, total liver volume, four liver lobe volumes, and diameters of portal venous system were measured on MRI. Ratios of spleen volume to total liver and to individual liver lobe volumes were calculated. In training cohort, univariate analyses and binary logistic regression analyses were to determine independent predictors. Performance of the model for predicting OVB constructed based on independent predictors from training cohort was evaluated by receiver operating characteristic (ROC) analysis, and was validated by Kappa test in validation cohort. RESULTS: OVB occurred in 42 and 18 individuals in training and validation cohorts during the 2 years' follow-up, respectively. An OVB prediction model was constructed based on the independent predictors including right liver lobe volume (RV), left gastric vein diameter (LGVD) and portal vein diameter (PVD) (odds ratio = 0.993, 2.202 and 1.613, respectively; p-values < 0.001 for all). The logistic regression model equation (-0.007 × RV + 0.79 × LGVD + 0.478 × PVD-6.73) for predicting OVB obtained excellent performance with an area under ROC curve of 0.907. The excellent performance was confirmed by Kappa test with K-value of 0.802 in validation cohort. CONCLUSION: The novel logistic regression model can be reliable for predicting OVB. KEY POINTS: • Patients with oesophagogastric variceal bleeding are mainly characterized by decreased right lobe volume, and increased spleen volume and diameters of portal vein system. • The right liver lobe volume, left gastric vein diameter and portal vein diameter are the independent predictors of oesophagogastric variceal bleeding. • The novel model developed based on the independent predictors performed well in predicting oesophagogastric variceal bleeding with an area under the receiver operating characteristic curve of 0.907.

Objective: To investigate the efficacy and safety of low-dose radiotherapy in treating eosinophilic lymphoid granuloma. Method: This study included a total of 20 patients diagnosed with eosinophilic lymphoid granuloma. All patients underwent low-dose three-dimensional conformal intensity-modulated radiotherapy for their lesions. We analyzed the control status of the lesions and any adverse reactions related to radiotherapy. Results: The overall effectiveness of low-dose radiotherapy in treating eosinophilic lymphoid granuloma was 90%. The incidence of grade I and grade II adverse reactions induced by radiotherapy was 70% and 30%, respectively. Over a median follow-up period of 23.6 months, all patients showed controlled lesions within the target delineation of radiotherapy. After radiotherapy, four patients experienced occasional pruritus, and one patient had a recurrence outside the target area three years later. No long-term severe adverse reactions related to radiotherapy were observed during the follow-up period. Conclusions: Low-dose radiotherapy demonstrates an apparent therapeutic effect on eosinophilic lymphoid granuloma with acceptable adverse reactions.

For the next coming years, metaverse, digital twin and autonomous vehicle applications are the leading technologies for many complex applications hitherto inaccessible such as health and life sciences, smart home, smart agriculture, smart city, smart car and logistics, Industry 4.0, entertainment (video game) and social media applications, due to recent tremendous developments in process modeling, supercomputing, cloud data analytics (deep learning, etc.), communication network and AIoT/IIoT/IoT technologies. AIoT/IIoT/IoT is a crucial research field because it provides the essential data to fuel metaverse, digital twin, real-time Industry 4.0 and autonomous vehicle applications. However, the science of AIoT is inherently multidisciplinary, and therefore, it is difficult for readers to understand its evolution and impacts. Our main contribution in this article is to analyze and highlight the trends and challenges of the AIoT technology ecosystem including core hardware (MCU, MEMS/NEMS sensors and wireless access medium), core software (operating system and protocol communication stack) and middleware (deep learning on a microcontroller: TinyML). Two low-powered AI technologies emerge: TinyML and neuromorphic computing, but only one AIoT/IIoT/IoT device implementation using TinyML dedicated to strawberry disease detection as a case study. So far, despite the very rapid progress of AIoT/IIoT/IoT technologies, several challenges remain to be overcome such as safety, security, latency, interoperability and reliability of sensor data, which are essential characteristics to meet the requirements of metaverse, digital twin, autonomous vehicle and Industry 4.0. applications.

BACKGROUND: Sarcomas are highly heterogeneous in molecular, pathologic, and clinical features. However, a classification of sarcomas by integrating different types of pathways remains mostly unexplored. METHODS: We performed hierarchical clustering analysis of sarcomas based on the enrichment scores of 14 pathways involved in immune, stromal, DNA damage repair (DDR), and oncogenic signatures in three bulk tumor transcriptome datasets. RESULTS: Consistently in the three datasets, sarcomas were classified into three subtypes: Immune Class (Imm-C), Stromal Class (Str-C), and DDR Class (DDR-C). Imm-C had the strongest anti-tumor immune signatures and the lowest intratumor heterogeneity (ITH); Str-C showed the strongest stromal signatures, the highest genomic stability and global methylation levels, and the lowest proliferation potential; DDR-C had the highest DDR activity, expression of the cell cycle pathway, tumor purity, stemness scores, proliferation potential, and ITH, the most frequent TP53 mutations, and the worst survival. We further validated the stability and reliability of our classification method by analyzing a single cell RNA-Seq (scRNA-seq) dataset. Based on the expression levels of five genes in the pathways of T cell receptor signaling, cell cycle, mismatch repair, focal adhesion, and calcium signaling, we built a linear risk scoring model (ICMScore) for sarcomas. We demonstrated that ICMScore was an adverse prognostic factor for sarcomas and many other cancers. CONCLUSIONS: Our classification method provides novel insights into tumor biology and clinical implications for sarcomas.

BACKGROUND: Supernumerary Nostril, also called triple nostrils or accessory nostril, is a rare congenital nasal malformation. CASE PRESENTATION: We report one conceal case of supernumerary nostril in a 19-years-old men which is misdiagnosed to a simple small nasal skin pit. Ordinary surgical excision led to recurrent infection of the lesion postoperatively, and was eventually required secondary surgery and the lesion was finally confirmed by pathological biopsy as a trinasal nostrils. CONCLUSIONS: Through this case, we stress the essential role in differential diagnosis, confirming the diagnosis and seeking for better solutions. Level of Evidence V.

Carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) is a common peripheral nerve disease in adults; it can cause pain, numbness, and even muscle atrophy and will adversely affect patients' daily life and work. There are no standard diagnostic criteria that go against the early diagnosis and treatment of patients. MRI as a novel imaging technique can show the patient's condition more objectively, and several characteristics of carpal tunnel syndrome have been found. However, various image sequences, heavy artifacts, small lesion characteristics, high volume of imagine reading, and high difficulty in MRI interpretation limit its application in clinical practice. With the development of automatic image segmentation technology, the algorithm has great potential in medical imaging. The challenge is that the segmentation target is too small, and there are two categories of images with the proximal border of the carpal tunnel as the boundary. To meet the challenge, we propose an end-to-end deep learning framework called Deep CTS to segment the carpal tunnel from the MR image. The Deep CTS consists of the shape classifier with a simple convolutional neural network and the carpal tunnel region segmentation with simplified U-Net. With the specialized structure for the carpal tunnel, Deep CTS can segment the carpal tunnel region efficiently and improve the intersection over union of results. The experimental results demonstrated that the performance of the proposed deep learning framework is better than other segmentation networks for small objects. We trained the model with 333 images, tested it with 82 images, and achieved 0.63 accuracy of intersection over union and 0.17 s segmentation efficiency, which indicate great promise for the clinical application of this algorithm.

BACKGROUND: This study aimed to investigate the mechanism of miR-29a-3p in regulating endometrial cancer (EC) progression. METHODS: A total of 72 EC patients were enrolled. EC cells were transfected. Cells proliferation, cloning ability, migration and invasion were researched by MTT assay, colony formation experiment, cell scratch test and Transwell experiment respectively. Dual-luciferase reporter assay was performed. Xenograft experiment was conducted using nude mice. miR-29a-3p, VEGFA, CDC42, PAK1 and p-PAK1 expression in cells/tissues was investigated by qRT-PCR and Western blot. RESULTS: miR-29a-3p expression was aberrantly reduced in EC patients, which was associated with poor outcome. miR-29a-3p inhibited EC cells proliferation, cloning formation, migration and invasion (P <  0.05 or P <  0.01 or P <  0.001). miR-29a-3p inhibited CDC42/PAK1 signaling pathway activity in EC cells (P <  0.01). VEGFA expression was directly inhibited by miR-29a-3p. miR-29a-3p suppressed EC cells malignant phenotype in vitro and growth in vivo by targeting VEGFA/CDC42/PAK1 signaling pathway (P < 0.05 or P < 0.01). CONCLUSION: miR-29a-3p inhibits EC cells proliferation, migration and invasion by targeting VEGFA/CDC42/PAK1 signaling pathway.

OBJECTIVES: To evaluate the value of renal diffusion kurtosis imaging (DKI) in the diagnosis of early diabetic nephropathy (DN) in a rat model. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Forty male Zucker diabetic fatty rats that spontaneously developed type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM) and 20 age-matched nondiabetic lean Zucker rats were included. Renal DKI scans and histological examinations were performed on the rats in batches at the end of the 4th, 8th, 12th, 16th, and 20th week after DM model was built. Based on renal histopathological appearance, included animals were divided into three groups: a nondiabetic control group, a DM group without DN, and an early DN group. Mean kurtosis (MK) and mean diffusivity (MD) values of renal cortex and medulla were analyzed statistically. RESULTS: MK values of renal cortex and medulla tended to increase from the control group to the early DN group, respectively, while MD values tended to decrease. The cutoff MD and MK values of renal cortex and medulla showed different values in discriminating early DN from controls. Among them, cutoff MK value of medulla of 0.62 was the best parameter (sensitivity, 93.9%; specificity, 96.4%; and area under the curve, 0.95). For discriminate early DN from DM without DN and DM without DN from controls, cutoff MK value of renal cortex or medulla achieved an area under the curve of 0.76-0.85. CONCLUSIONS: MR DKI may be valuable for the noninvasive detection of early DN, and MK value might serve as a more sensitive biomarker of early DN than MD value. KEY POINTS: • In this article, diffusion kurtosis imaging (DKI) was used to detect the changes in the kidneys due to early diabetic nephropathy (DN). • MR DKI may be valuable for the noninvasive detection of early DN. • The mean kurtosis values of renal cortex and medulla might serve as a more sensitive biomarker of early DN than the mean diffusivity values.

Axillary bromhidrosis is a widespread social problem in our society. Various modalities have been developed for the destruction or removal of the apocrine sweat glands to eliminate underarm odor. However, conventional surgical treatments often result in a high complication rate and frequent recurrence. In this study, we aimed to evaluate the effect of refined tumescent liposuction-curettage with pruning in small incisions as treatment for axillary bromhidrosis. Between July 2013 and April 2019, 110 patients (75 women and 35 men) with axillary bromhidrosis underwent refined tumescent liposuction-curettage with pruning. The results of eliminating underarm odor were evaluated by both the patients and doctors and rated as very satisfied (excellent), satisfied (good), slightly satisfied (fair), and not satisfied (poor). Postoperative complications, such as dehiscence, infection, wound contracture, cyst, subcutaneous hydrops, hematoma, or seroma, were also evaluated. Preoperative and postoperative histological examinations of axillary tissues were performed in two patients. In the subjective evaluation of 110 patients, 33 (30.0%) were very satisfied with the results, 70 (63.6%) were satisfied, and seven (6.4%) were slightly satisfied. The objective evaluation showed that 43 (39.1%) patients graded the results as excellent, whereas others graded the results as good. No serious complications occurred, except three patients with slight local subcutaneous hydrops and hematoma. Histologic examinations showed that the apocrine glands were significantly decreased or destroyed after the surgery. Refined tumescent liposuction-curettage with pruning in small incisions is an effective method for the treatment of axillary bromhidrosis.

Muscle ischemia injury is the essence of compartment syndrome (CS). Photoacoustic (PA) imaging can monitor hemoglobin concentration changes in ischemic tissue by determining the state of light-absorbing molecules. This study investigated whether PA imaging can provide accurate CS monitoring. Rats received compression on the lower hind limb for 3 h to induce ischemia injury, followed by PA imaging of desired muscles for 24 h. PA intensities of the injured group were significantly lower than that in the control group. Histology findings correlated well with the PA findings. The results demonstrated that PA imaging could be a noninvasive and timely tool for clinically monitoring CS.

Micronutrient metals, such as Mn, Cu, Fe, and Zn, are essential heavy metals for plant growth and development, while Cd is a nonessential heavy metal that is highly toxic to both plants and humans. Our understanding of the molecular mechanisms underlying Cd and micronutrient metal accumulation in plants remains incomplete. Here, we show that OsFWL7, an FW2.2-like (FWL) family gene in Oryza sativa, is preferentially expressed in the root and encodes a protein localized to the cell membrane. The osfwl7 mutation reduces both the uptake and the root-to-shoot translocation of Cd in rice plants. Additionally, the accumulation of micronutrient metals, including Mn, Cu, and Fe, was lower in osfwl7 mutants than in the wildtype plants under normal growth conditions. Moreover, the osfwl7 mutation affects the expression of several heavy metal transporter genes. Protein interaction analyses reveal that rice FWL proteins interact with themselves and one another, and with several membrane microdomain marker proteins. Our results suggest that OsFWL7 is involved in Cd and micronutrient metal accumulation in rice. Additionally, rice FWL proteins may form oligomers and some of them may be located in membrane microdomains.

Background: Desmoplastic small round cell tumor (DSRCT) is an aggressive malignant tumor commonly found in young men; most occurs in the abdominal cavity. Here we conducted an in-depth analysis of a pregnant patient in our hospital and explored all the case information in the literature on small round cell carcinoma of women. Case presentation: A 27-year-old pregnant woman underwent tumor resection in our hospital at 29 weeks gestational age for a large progressive shoulder lump. The postoperative pathology showed that the mass was a DSRCT. Genetic testing found no fusion gene. At 36 weeks gestation, a painful mass was found in the breast and proved to be a metastatic focus of the desmoplastic small round cell tumor. Twenty days after a successful cesarean section at 40 weeks gestation, she received the VAC-IE chemotherapy regimen, successfully completed the first course, but when awaiting the next chemotherapy, unfortunately, the patient died during follow-up due to tumor recurrence and metastasis. Conclusion: The treatment of DSRCT in pregnant women requires a multidisciplinary consultation, and the treatment and examination during pregnancy are subject to many constraints, which may have a negative impact on the patient's prognosis. Also, a review of the literature found that there is still no standard treatment protocol for DSRCT, and its prognosis in female patients is independent of age and tissue origin.

Background: Despite significant advances in the materials and methods development used in surgical repair and postoperative rehabilitation, the adhesion formation remains the most common clinical problem in tendon injuries. Therefore, the development of novel therapies is necessary for targeting at preventing tendon adhesion formation and improving tendon strength. Methods: We used rat fibroblasts for in vitro experiments to determine the optimal concentration of TSA in rats, and then set up negative control group, TSA intervention group, mir-29b interference adenovirus intervention group and TSA and mir-29b interference adenovirus co-intervention group. By comparing cell proliferation and protein expression in different group, we verified the effect and mechanism of drugs on fibroblast function. At the same time, the Sprague-Dawley rat Achilles tendon model in vivo was established in this study, which was divided into sham operation group and operation group. Afterwards in the operation group, mir-29b inhibitor and placebo were injected every 3 days respectively. Then the injection inhibitor group was divided into 5 groups which mean TSA was injected into the marked area at 0, 6, 24 and 72 hours after operation for 1 week, finally all of the rats were died at 3 weeks after operation. Through the observation of general properties, histological observation of Achilles tendon injury, biomechanical test and cell and protein expression in rats' tendon cell, the effect of drugs on tendon adhesion formation was analyzed. Results: We demonstrated that the combination of miR-29b inhibitor and tanshinone IIA(TSA) could prevent tendon adhesion and also enhance tendon strength. Mechanically, the miR-29b inhibitor could activate the TGF-ß/Smad3 pathway to trigger endogenous pathways and induce a high proliferation of fibroblast. Subsequently, we also found adding TSA after 6 hours of miR-29b treatment gave less cell cytotoxicity in our rat model with better outcome of less tendon adhesion and enhanced strength. Conclusion: We conclude that the use of miR-29b inhibitor at the end of the tendon break could initiate endogenous repair mechanism and subsequently use of TSA should be able to inhibit the exogenous repair mechanism. Therefore, the combination of both treatments could prevent tendon adhesion and ensure tendon strength. Our findings suggested that this approach would be a feasible approach for tendon repair.

Cyber Physical Systems (CPS) has been a popular research area in the last decade. The dependability of CPS is still a critical issue, and few surveys have been published in this domain. CPS is a dynamic complex system, which involves various multidisciplinary technologies. To avoid human errors and to simplify management, self-management CPS (SCPS) is a wise choice. To achieve dependable self-management, systematic solutions are necessary to verify the design and to guarantee the safety of self-adaptation decisions, as well as to maintain the health of SCPS. This survey first recalls the concepts of dependability, and proposes a generic environment-in-loop processing flow of self-management CPS, and then analyzes the error sources and challenges of self-management through the formal feedback flow. Focusing on reducing the complexity, we first survey the self-adaptive architecture approaches and applied dependability means, then we introduce a hybrid multi-role self-adaptive architecture, and discuss the supporting technologies for dependable self-management at the architecture level. Focus on dependable environment-centered adaptation, we investigate the verification and validation (V&V) methods for making safe self-adaptation decision and the solutions for processing decision dependably. For system-centered adaptation, the comprehensive self-healing methods are summarized. Finally, we analyze the missing pieces of the technology puzzle and the future directions. In this survey, the technical trends for dependable CPS design and maintenance are discussed, an all-in-one solution is proposed to integrate these technologies and build a dependable organic SCPS. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first comprehensive survey on dependable SCPS building and evaluation.

There is a growing demand for diagnostic procedures including in vivo tumor imaging. Radiometal-based imaging agents are advantageous for tumor imaging because radiometals (i) have a wide range of half-lives and (ii) are easily incorporated into imaging probes via a mild, rapid chelation event with a bifunctional chelator (BFC). Microfluidic platforms hold promise for synthesis of radiotracers because they can easily handle minute volumes, reduce consumption of expensive reagents, and minimize personnel exposure to radioactive compounds. Here we demonstrate the use of a "click chip" with an immobilized Cu(I) catalyst to facilitate the "click chemistry" conjugation of BFCs to biomolecules (BMs); a key step in the synthesis of radiometal-based imaging probes. The "click chip" was used to synthesize three different BM-BFC conjugates with minimal amounts of copper present in reaction solutions (∼20 ppm), which reduces or obviates the need for a copper removal step. These initial results are promising for future endeavors of synthesizing radiometal-based imaging agents completely on chip.

PURPOSE: To assess the efficacy and safety of intravitreal conbercept injections in patients with macular edema secondary to retinal vein occlusion (RVO). METHODS: A prospective, Phase II clinical trial was performed on 60 patients with macular edema secondary to RVO. Thirty patients had branch RVO (BRVO) and 30 had central RVO (CRVO). Each patient received intravitreal injections of conbercept monthly up to 3 months, followed by monthly evaluation and injection pro re nata to Month 9. RESULTS: The average change of best-corrected visual acuity from baseline to Month 9 was 17.83 ± 10.89 letters in BRVO and 14.23 ± 11.74 letters in CRVO. The change in best-corrected visual acuity was not statistically different between the groups (P = 0.216). The mean reduction of central retina thickness from baseline to Month 9 was 289.97 ± 165.42 µm and 420.47 ± 235.89 µm in BRVO and CRVO, respectively. The mean numbers of injections was 7.14 ± 1.90 in BRVO and 7.59 ± 1.39 in CRVO from baseline to Month 9 (P = 0.4705). There were 7 serious adverse events (SAEs) in 5 patients (8.33%, 2 BRVO and 3 CRVO). All the SAEs were nonocular and were not related to the drug or the injection procedure. CONCLUSION: Intravitreal injections of conbercept demonstrated a generally favorable safety and tolerability profile as well as efficacy in the treatment of macular edema due to RVO.
