This thesis aims to investigate, in a comparative perspective, the process of translation or acclimatization of the north-American sociology of modernization in the studies of Florestan Fernandes and Gino Germani, the two main protagonists of sociology renovation in Brazilian and Argentine contexts respectively. It was shown, through different aspects of their sociological practices, including both empirical research as theoretical reasoning, how Fernandes and Germani gradually strained the main assumptions of the sociology of modernization, such as the linear view of historical processes and the idea that the modern society would converge to a single pattern. As a methodological approach, it was also analyzed the studies of Talcott Parsons, used as acontrol pattern for comparisons between Fernandes and Germani. The hypothesis brought up in this study was that on these processes of acclimatization too many differences can be observed between the texts of Fernandes and Germani, due to the interaction between the theoretical models imported and the particular social dynamics of Brazilian and Argentine societies.(AU)
