Intelectuais e autoconsciência latino-americana: por uma crítica à razão ocidental / Intellectuals and Latin American self conscience: towards a critique of Western rationality
Departing from the topic of regional integration, this articles analyses the history behind the concept of Latin America. The concept had different meaning along history. It refers to the French expansionism, to the Spanish and Portuguese Colonialism, to theantagonism between Latin Americans and the Anglo-Saxon North America and, more recently, to a Latin American utopia of counter-hegemony. The articles brings a hypothetical dialogue between Darcy Ribeiro (1922-1997) and Manoel Bonfim (1868-1932), both acknowledged as intellectual heirs of Simon Bolivars ideal of Big Nation and José Martíns ideal of Our America. We are particularly interested in the contemporary challenges posed by the post-colonial and post-Western approach of the Modernitycoloniality-decoloniality project. Based on an interculturality perspective, the aim of this article is to instigate the political and social imagination around a endogenous project of development for the continent.(AU)
