RESUMO
A dissertação tem como objetivo reconstruir a trajetória do ativista negro Abdias do Nascimento, por meio da compreensão dos paradigmas e das concepções ideológicas que orientaram a atuação das várias fases dos movimentos negros brasileiros, em especial, a referente às décadas de 1940 e 1950, quando a atuação do autor estudado foi preponderante, tendo como organização de referência o Teatro Experimental Negro (TEN), por ele fundado em 1944, no Rio de Janeiro. Para chegar ao objetivo proposto, a estratégia adotada foi analisar Nascimento como uma liderança negra e buscar entender o seu processo de construção e legitimação, bem como as influências teóricas, ideológicas e partidárias que a informavam. Outra ideia central na análise é o conceito de "modernidade negra", que busca entender as estratégias das populações negras no Brasil e nas várias localidades da Diáspora Africana para se inserirem na "modernidade ocidental", elaborando uma auto-representação do grupo que, dependendo da época e do locus geográfico, leva a um afastamento ou uma reelaboração de sua herança cultural africana em conexão com a lógica colonial e de construção de nação de cada país. ABSTRACT
The dissertation has as an objective to reconstruct the path of the black activist Abdias do Nascimento with the intention of understanding the paradigms and ideological conceptions that oriented the action of the several phases of the Brazilian black movements, especially regarding the 1940s and 1950s, in the which the actions of the author studied was predominant, therefore had the organization of reference the Black Experimental Theater (TEN), founded. In arriving at the objective proposed, the strategy adopted was to analyze Nascimento as black leadership and seek to understand the trial of construction and legitimacy of this leadership as well as the partisan, ideological, and theoretical influences that it informed. Another central idea in the analysis is the concept of "black modernity", that seeks to understand the strategies of the black populations in Brazil and in the several localities of the African Diaspora as being inserted in the "western modernity" elaborating a self-representation of the group that, depending on the epoch and of the geographical locus, tappet to a distance or reelaboration of its African cultural inheritance in connection with each country.
