ABSTRACT

A small bony spur on the infero-internal surface of the femoral neck was observed in radiographic images of two adult subjects in whom clinical signs of hip disorders were absent. This is though to be a variant of the normal not previously described; the spur probably results from ossification of the pectineofoveal capsular fold at the level of its femoral insertion.

ABSTRACT

At the time of the European Gymnastics Championships (Lyon, 1980), X-rays of the left wrist were taken in 105 high level junior athletes. Most importantly, we found a delay in bone age in 73% of the boys and in 78% of the girls, which is probably related to an unbalanced diet and to repeated micro-trauma to the growing epiphyses. In particular, we observed traumatic lesions at the distal extremity of the radius with considerable frequency (83% of gymnasts). They are sometimes accompanied by cubital lesions and they are due to an increased fragility in the epiphyso-metaphyseal region due to the delay in bone maturation.

ABSTRACT

Trituration-aspiration-infiltration of calcifications of the shoulder region is a method applied for treatment of intractable calcifying periarthritis. A television screen is used to guide the needle until it is in contact with the calcifications provoking the symptoms. Trituration and aspiration of the calcified lesions is followed by saturation with prolonged released corticoids of 41 shoulders treated, recovery or improvement was noted in 70% after one month, results being rated as excellent in 19 patients followed up for 3 months.

ABSTRACT

In two out of three women breast reduction and reconstructive abdominoplasty relieve back pain and even sciatica. The biomechanical action of these techniques is analyzed. Further research consists of comparative measurements of intra-disc and spinal intra-muscular pressures between the pre- and post-operative periods.

ABSTRACT

The authors report the study of a series of 23 partial isthmic lyses which occurred in a young population (15 cases) and in an adult one (8 cases) between 1983 and 1988, in the form of persistent lumbosacral pains. The initial radiological signs, the key to an early diagnosis, are defined: cortical notches more often regarding the lower cortex than the upper one, incomplete fissures reaching the two cortical poles, gradual narrowing of the isthmus. The value of standard radiography is underlined, with the oblique incidences close to the profile regularly ensuring the diagnosis, with the exception of 4 cases out of 23 for which tomography was required. As regards the evolution, the value of the diagnosis of the initial lesions is recalled, giving the hope of a restoration of the posterior inter-articular fractures by a rigid setting (4 months on average). This ability to reconstruct the lumbar isthmus is observed in the young subjects (10 out of 13 immobilizations) but also in the adult subjects (3 reconstructions for 5 immobilizations carried out). These results enable the early detection of prelytic states, in order to administer an suitable treatment resting on the rigid setting of the lumbosacral region, re-education and the control of the risk factors.
