ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of 2%, 4% lignocaine, Eutectic Mixture of Local Anesthetics (EMLA) mixture and precaine topical anesthetic agents (with 1:1,000,000 epinephrine) during the extraction of deciduous anterior tooth. METHODS: Eighty patients with preshedding mobility of deciduous anterior tooth were divided randomly into four groups. Lignocaine, in amount of 2% and 4%, precaine and EMLA topical anesthetic agents were applied and the tooth was extracted. VAS has been used to assess the subjective pain while Wong-Baker Faces Scale and SEM Pain Scale have been used to record the objective pain to check the efficacy of these topical anesthetic agents. SPSS ver.17 was used for statistical analysis. Group comparison was done by ANOVA (Fishers F test) and inter comparison was done by Tukeys t-test. RESULTS: Based on the scoring criteria of VAS, SEM and Wong Bakers facial pain scales, precaine had best scores followed by EMLA mixture, 4% lignocaine, and then 2 % lignocaine during extraction of primary anterior teeth with preshedding mobility. CONCLUSIONS: The efficacy of precaine was superior compared to EMLA mixture followed by 4% lignocaine and 2% Lignocaine respectively.

ABSTRACT

Morphological variations are seen in both primary and permanent dentitions. Cusp of Carabelli is also one of them. It is suggested that it is due to over activity of dental lamina but definitive aetiology is unknown. It is a type of accessory cusp, occurs more often in permanent maxillary first molars, whereas, its occurrence in primary tooth is rare. The present case series discusses the presence of cusp of Carabelli in primary maxillary second molars in three different cases. This case series will help clinicians to identify, diagnose and take proper preventive care and also adds to the incidence in literature.

ABSTRACT

Transposition is an exchange of positions of two adjacent teeth. This is a condition with an incidence of 0.33%. Etiology is multifactorial; genetic influence is the most supported cause. Dental transposition is a multifactorial condition. While transposition of tooth germ is the rarest condition, this helps in identification of a person in mass casualties due to any disaster, or crimes, fraud. The present case is an incidence of incomplete transposition of right mandibular permanent second molar tooth germ, causing resorption of the roots of permanent first molar with possible loss of that tooth, which is a unique presentation.

ABSTRACT

Anterior crossbite is one of the most common forms of malocclusion in sagittal relationship of maxilla and mandible. If not corrected at the earliest, it will cause restriction of normal growth and development of both the jaws. The incidence of anterior crossbite is 4 to 5% in primary dentition. Self-correction may occur at the transient dentition or permanent dentition stage, but treating it should be the first priority. Using either removable or fixed appliances is recommended for the correction, but it depends on the patient cooperation, treatment duration, and parent approval. In this case report, we have used planas direct tracks (PDTs) which helps the forward development of mandible and corrects the malocclusion. With two modifications to PDTs, one is using acrylic instead of composite. It is advantageous to both clinicians and parents by correcting the crossbite efficiently in short duration while taking less chair-side time for fabrication and being economical. ABSTRACT

Microdontia is a term used to describe teeth which are smaller than normal. Peg-shaped teeth are type of microdontia, a developmental disturbances of teeth mainly due to congenital reasons. Most commonly affecting single teeth, that is maxillary lateral incisors. Incidence of peg shaped tooth in maxillary laterals are usually seen and reported. But in mandibular arch it is very rare. Present case, it affected all the incisors of mandibular arch and also the laterals of maxillary arch which is rarest of condition. This case report presents a non syndromic, peg shaped mandibular incisors in a 11 year old male patient.
