ABSTRACT

The ternary strategy is one of the effective methods to regulate the morphology of the active layer in organic solar cells (OSCs). In this work, the ternary OSCs with bulk heterojunction (BHJ) or layer-by-layer (LbL) active layers are prepared by using the polymer donor PM6 and the non-fullerene acceptor L8-BO as the main system and the fullerene acceptor PC71BM as the third component. The power conversion efficiencies (PCEs) of BHJ OSCs and LbL OSCs are increased from 17.10% to 18.02% and from 17.20% to 18.20% by introducing PC71BM into the binary active layer, respectively. The in situ UV-vis absorption spectra indicate that the molecular aggregation and crystallization process can be prolonged by introducing PC71BM into the PM6:L8-BO or PM6/L8-BO active layer. The molecular orientation and molecular crystallinity in the active layer are optimized by introducing the PC71BM into the binary BHJ or LbL active layers, which can be confirmed by the experimental results of grazing incidence wide-angle X-ray scattering. This study demonstrates that the third component PC71BM can be used as a morphology regulator to regulate the morphology of BHJ or LbL active layers, thus effectively improving the performance of BHJ and LbL OSCs.

ABSTRACT

Focused vector beams (VBs) are important topic in the areas of light field manipulation. Geometric metasurfaces provide a convenient platform to facilitate the generation of focused VBs. In this study, we propose a dielectric geometric metasurface to generate multichannel focused higher-order Poincaré sphere (HOP) beams. With identical meta-atoms of half-wave plate, the metasurface comprises two sub-metasurfaces, and each of them includes two sets of rings related to Fresnel zones. For meta-atoms on each set of rings, the hyperbolic geometric phase profile is configured so that the mirror-symmetrical position-flip of the off-axis focal point is enabled under the chirality switch of the illuminating circular polarization. With the design of helical geometric phase profiles for the two sets of rings, a sub-metasurface generate two HOP beams at the symmetrical two focal points. The performance of the two sub-metasurfaces enables the metasurface with four sets of rings to generate the array of four HOP beams. The proposed method was validated by theoretical analyses, numerical simulation and experimental conduction. This research would be significant in miniaturizing and integrating optical systems involving applications of VB generations and applications.

ABSTRACT

Cardiomyocyte hypertrophy plays a crucial role in heart failure development, potentially leading to sudden cardiac arrest and death. Previous studies suggest that micro-ribonucleic acids (miRNAs) show promise for the early diagnosis and treatment of cardiomyocyte hypertrophy. To investigate the miR-378 expression in the cardiomyocyte hypertrophy model, reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR), Western blot, and immunofluorescence tests were conducted in angiotensin II (Ang II)-induced H9c2 cells and Ang II-induced mouse model of cardiomyocyte hypertrophy. The functional interaction between miR-378 and AKT2 was studied by dual-luciferase reporter, RNA pull-down, Western blot, and RT-qPCR assays. The results of RT-qPCR analysis showed the downregulated expression of miR-378 in both the cell and animal models of cardiomyocyte hypertrophy. It was observed that the introduction of the miR-378 mimic inhibited the hypertrophy of cardiomyocytes induced by Ang II. Furthermore, the co-transfection of AKT2 expression vector partially mitigated the negative impact of miR-378 overexpression on Ang II-induced cardiomyocytes. Molecular investigations provided evidence that miR-378 negatively regulated AKT2 expression by interacting with the 3' untranslated region (UTR) of AKT2 mRNA.Decreased miR-378 expression and AKT2 activation are linked to Ang II-induced cardiomyocyte hypertrophy. Targeting miR-378/AKT2 axis offers therapeutic opportunity to alleviate cardiomyocyte hypertrophy.

ABSTRACT

This study aims to assess the safety and efficacy of Shumian Capsules in the treatment of insomnia. Randomized controlled trial(RCT) about Shumian Capsules for insomnia were retrieved from databases. RevMan 5.4 was used for statistical analysis. A total of 23 articles were included, involving 2 621 patients. Meta-analysis showed that Shumian Capsules had advantages in the treatment of insomnia(RR=1.07, 95%CI[1.03, 1.10], P=0.000 2) and insomnia with depression(RR=1.13, 95%CI[1.02, 1.25], P=0.02) in terms of total response rate. Shumian Capsules had advantages in the treatment of insomnia(MD=-0.75, 95%CI[-1.33,-0.17], P=0.01) and insomnia with depression(MD=-2.51, 95%CI[-2.96,-2.06], P<0.000 01) in terms of PSQI score. The incidence of adverse events in the Shumian Capsules(RR=0.33, 95%CI[0.24, 0.46], P<0.000 01) and Shumian Capsules + conventional western medicine(RR=0.71, 95%CI[0.54, 0.95], P=0.02) was lower than that in the conventional wes-tern medicine alone. In addition, Shumian Capsules had an advantage in treating insomnia complicated with depression in terms of HAMD score(P<0.000 1) and reducing the serum levels of 5-HT, TSH, T3, and T4 in insomnia patients(P<0.05). The quality of evidence was mostly medium or low. The studies demonstrate that Shumian Capsules is effective and safe for treating insomnia, which may be related to the mechanism of lowering the levels of 5-HT, TSH, T3, and T4 in the serum. In view of the quality of evidence, the application of Shumian Capsules should be considered after comprehensive evaluation in clinical practice.

ABSTRACT

Focused higher-order Poincaré (HOP) beams are of particular interest because they facilitate understanding the exotic properties of structured light and their applications in classical physics and quantum information. However, generating focused HOP beams using metasurfaces is challenging. In this study, we proposed a metasurface design comprising two sets of metal nanoslits for generating coaxially focused HOP beams. The nanoslits were interleaved on equispaced alternating rings. The initial rings started at the two adjacent Fresnel zones to provide opposite propagation phases for overall elimination of the co-polarization components. With the designed hyperbolic and helical profiles of the geometric phases, the two vortices of the opposite cross-circular-polarizations were formed and selectively focused, realizing HOP beams of improved quality. Simulations and experimental results demonstrated the feasibility of the proposed metasurface design. This study is of significance in the integration of miniaturized optical devices and enriches the application areas of metasurfaces.

ABSTRACT

Ultrashort optical vortex pulses carrying spatiotemporal orbital angular momentum (OAM) have inspired versatile applications such as the micromachining of integrated quantum chips and discoveries such as optical toroidal structures and OAM-carrying X-waves. Generating high-quality ultrashort vortices with controllable topological charges remains a crucial issue. Thus, we propose a rotationally interleaved multispiral to generate such vortices. A multispiral comprises multiple identical spirals rotated around the center in the equal-azimuthal interval and interleaved in equal-radius increments; this structure overcomes the previous structural asymmetry of the single spiral and improves the vortex quality. Accordingly, we conducted theoretical analyses, numerical simulations, and experimental investigations that demonstrated the feasibility of multispirals in generating the ultrashort vortices with symmetric distributions and flexibly controlling the topological charges. The proposed study is significant for broader applications involving ultrashort vortices and extensive investigations in related areas such as research on electron vortices, plasmonic vortices, and other matter vortices.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: The aims of this study were to investigate the current state of psychological resilience and identify its associated factors in bladder cancer (BC) patients undergoing radical cystectomy (RC). METHODS: A cross-sectional study, using convenience sampling was conducted among 248 patients recruited from urology department of a tertiary hospital in Shenyang, China. According to the resilience in illness model, participants were invited to finish a questionnaire included demographic and disease-related information, Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale, Mishel Uncertainty in Illness Scale, Medical Coping Modes Questionnaire, Social Support Rating Scale, Family adaptation, partnership, growth, affection, and resolve Index and Herth Hope Index. Multiple regression analysis was conducted to explore the predictors of resilience. RESULTS: The average resilience score of 53.45 ± 6.22 among BC patients undergoing RC. Multiple regression showed that the associated factors of resilience of postoperative BC patients were gender (ß = -0.142, p = 0.002), living in town (ß = -0.103, p = 0.052), living alone (ß = 0.118, p = 0.026), almost need to be taken care of (ß = 0.094, p = 0.064), illness uncertainty (ß = -0.249, p < 0.001), confrontation (ß = 0.091, p = 0.077), acceptance-resignation (ß = -0.205, p < 0.001), social support (ß = 0.122, p = 0.029) and hope (ß = 0.350, p < 0.001). These predictors accounted for 56.9% of the total variance in resilience (F = 14.964, p < 0.001). CONCLUSIONS: Resilience among BC patients undergoing RC needs to be further improved. Hope was the most important variable influencing resilience in BC patients undergoing RC. In the future, we need to pay more attention to the psychological status of patients and encourage them to face the disease with positive emotion and positive coping style to enhance the hope and resilience of patients, so as to improve the quality of life of patients with BC undergoing RC.

ABSTRACT

Metasurfaces with orthogonal nano-slit pairs arranged on spirals are proposed to generate vector beams (VBs) of Bell-like states and slanted polarizations. The design of the metasurfaces is based on the theoretically derived parameter condition for manipulation of the two vector vortex modes, which is satisfied by matching the three parameters of rotation order m, the spiral order n, and incident polarization helicity σ. The linear polarization states of the VBs are controlled by the initial orientation angle φ0 of slit pairs. VBs of satisfying quality are experimentally obtained, with the analytical and simulated results validated.

ABSTRACT

To analyze the outcome indicators from the randomized controlled trials(RCTs) on traditional Chinese medicine(TCM) treatment for diabetic foot, and to lay a foundation for the establishment of the core index set of the clinical trials on TCM treatment of diabetic foot. Computer retrieval of RCTs on TCM treatment of diabetic foot was performed in CNKI, Wanfang, SinoMed, PubMed, Cochrane Library, EMbase and Web of Science databases. Literature screening and data extraction were conducted independently by two researchers in strict accordance with inclusion and exclusion criteria. Any difference was resolved through discussion. A total of 72 RCTs involving 5 791 patients were included and 204 indicators were used. The number of indicators used in a single study was 2-22, with an average of 3 indicators used for each RCT. The indicators with top 16 frequency were clinical total effective rate, ankle brachial index(ABI), ulcer area, TCM syndrome integral, fibrinogen(FIB), fasting blood glucose(FBG), plasma viscosity(PV), c-reactive protein(CRP), saccharification blood of eggs(HbAlc), 2 h postprandial blood glucose(2 hPG), wound healing time, triglyce-rides(TC), TCM efficacy for syndromes, total cholesterol(TG), percutaneous oxygen partial pressure(TCPO2) and TCM symptom scores. The difference in selection of RCT indicators was large among TCM treatment methods for diabetic foot, and the combination of outcome indicators was arbitrary. The description on indexes was not standardized. Some non-laboratory examination indicators, some indicators not recommended in guidelines or not recognized in clinical practice, and some self-made indicators were not explained in detail. There was a lack of standardized evaluation criteria for indicators. The indicators had large time-point difference in measurement, and the time points were not distinguished in the measurement for diabetic foot patients with different degrees of severity. In addition, the patients with long course of treatment weren't timely measured. The characteristics of TCM or significant endpoint indicators were insufficient. It was urgent to establish the core index set of TCM in treating diabetic foot.

ABSTRACT

To systematically evaluate the clinical efficacy and safety of Compound Danshen Dripping Pills combined with conventional antihypertensive drugs in the treatment of hypertensive left ventricular hypertrophy. China National Knowledge Infrastructure(CNKI), Wanfang, VIP, PubMed, EMbase, Cochrane Library, Ovid and Web of Science databases were searched by computer to retrieve the randomized controlled trials(RCTs) of Compound Danshen Dripping Pills combined with conventional antihypertensive drugs in the treatment of hypertensive left ventricular hypertrophy from the establishment of databases to July 2020. After two researchers performed data retrieval, data extraction, and risk assessment of bias, they used RevMan 5.3 software for Meta-analysis. A total of 10 RCTs were included, with a total of 979 patients. Meta-analysis results showed that in terms of interventricular septal thickness(MD=-0.70, 95%CI[-1.15,-0.24], P=0.003), left ventricular posterior wall thickness(MD=-0.81, 95%CI[-1.41,-0.21], P=0.008), left ventricular mass index(MD=-8.75, 95%CI[-17.40,-0.10], P=0.05), systolic blood pressure(MD=-8.97, 95%CI[-13.46,-4.48], P<0.000 1), diastolic blood pressure(MD=-5.87, 95%CI[-8.39,-3.34], P<0.000 01) and left ventricular end-diastolic diameter(MD=-1.73, 95%CI[-2.38,-1.08], P<0.000 01), Compound Danshen Dripping Pills combined with conventional antihypertensive drugs was superior to conventional antihypertensive drugs. In terms of left ventricular ejection fraction(MD=0.41, 95%CI[-0.74, 1.55], P=0.49), there was no statistical difference in treatment between the two groups. Because of the small amount of literatures included in the safety aspect, it is impossible to give an accurate conclusion. The GRADE score showed that the level of evidence was low and extremely low. The results show that the Compound Danshen Dripping Pills combined with conventional antihypertensive drugs may effectively improve the clinical efficacy for hypertensive ventricular hypertrophy, and the safety needs to be further explored. Due to the low quality of the included literatures, more high-quality RCTs are needed for verification.

ABSTRACT

To systematically review the efficacy and safety of Yangxin Dingji Capsules in the treatment of arrhythmia. PubMed, EMbase, Cochrane Library, CNKI, VIP, CBM and Wanfang databases were electronically retrieved to collect randomized controlled trial(RCT) on the efficacy of Yangxin Dingji Capsules in the treatment of arrhythmia from the time of database establishment to October 20 th, 2020. Two reviewers independently screened out the literatures, input the data, and evaluated the literature quality of the included studies. RevMan 5.3 software was used for Meta-analysis. A total of 127 studies were retrieved, and 15 articles were included after screening, involving 1 371 cases, with 685 cases in the treatment group and 686 cases in the control group. Yangxin Dingji Capsules combined with anti-arrhythmia western medicine was adopted for intervention in the treatment group, while the patients in the control group were treated with the anti-arrhythmia western medicine alone. Meta-analysis results showed that in arrhythmia patients, the combination of Yangxin Dingji Capsules and conventional western medicine significantly increased the clinical efficacy(RR=1.23, 95%CI[1.17, 1.30], P<0.000 01)and left ventricular ejection fraction(MD=4.31, 95%CI[3.10, 5.52], P<0.000 01), reduced heart rate(MD=-3.79, 95%CI[-7.42,-0.15], P=0.04), left ventricular end-diastolic diameter(MD=-7.06, 95%CI[-11.91,-2.21],P=0.004), left ventricular end-systolic diameter(MD=-4.78, 95%CI[-6.63,-2.93],P<0.000 01), N-terminal B-type natriuretic peptide precursor(MD=-200.51, 95%CI[-254.52,-146.51], P<0.000 01)and high-sensitivity C-reactive protein(MD=-1.74, 95%CI[-3.23,-0.24], P=0.02), all with statistically significant differences. Compared with the control group, Yangxin Dingji Capsules had fewer adverse reactions(RR=0.53, 95%CI[0.36, 0.79], P=0.002). The existing evidences showed that Yangxin Dingji Capsules had certain effect in the treatment of arrhythmia, with a safety. However, due to the limitation in sample size, outcome measures and quality of the included studies, more high-quality studies are required to verify the above conclusion.

ABSTRACT

Vector beams contain complex polarization structures and they are inherently non-separable in the polarization and spatial degrees of freedom. The spatially variant polarizations of vector beams have enabled many important applications in a variety of fields ranging from classical to quantum physics. In this study, we designed and realized a setup based on Mach-Zehnder interferometer for achieving the vector beams at arbitrary points of higher-order Poincaré sphere, through manipulating two eigenstates in the Mach-Zehnder interferometer system with the combined spiral phase plate. We demonstrated the generation of different kinds of higher-order Poincaré beams, including the beams at points on a latitude or longitude of higher-order Poincaré sphere, Bell states for |l| = 1 and |l| = 2, radially polarized beams of very high order with l = 16, etc. Vector beams of high quality and good accuracy are experimentally achieved, and the flexibility, feasibility and high efficiency of the setup are demonstrated by the practical performance.

ABSTRACT

Herein, we disclose the synthesis of diaryl selenides through an unexpected C-Se coupling between aryl benzyl selenoxides and phenols. The synthetic significance of the method is that it provides a mild, rapid, and metal-free access to organoselenides in high yields with excellent functional group tolerance. This coupling of aryl benzyl selenoxides reveals a completely new reaction possibility compared with aryl sulfoxides. We also probed the reaction mechanism of this unexpected transformation through experimental studies and revealed a special Se(IV)-Se(III)-Se(II) reaction pathway.

ABSTRACT

Two kinds of plasmonic lenses are proposed based on phase compensation. Each kind of plasmonic lens is comprised of four sets of nanohole arrays, and two sets of face-to-face nanohole arrays are planar symmetric. The adjustment of separation and the rotation angle of holes compensates, respectively, for the phase difference of the surface plasmon polaritons reaching to the focal spot. The different design principles make the proposed plasmonic lenses show the different polarization dependence focusing. Two or four foci of the first kind of plasmonic lens and two controllable foci focusing of the second kind of plasmonic lens can be utilized as optical switch and logic judgment. Theoretic analysis, numerical calculations and experiment measurement verify the focusing performance of our proposed plasmonic lenses. The focusing functionality and versatility of our proposed structures are helpful for extending the applications of plasmonic lenses in integrated optics.

ABSTRACT

To analyze the registered clinical trial protocols of traditional Chinese medicine(TCM) for the prevention and treatment of coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19), in order to provide information for improving the quality of research design. The website of the Chinese Clinical Trial Registry(www.chictr.org.cn) and the American Clinical Trial Registry(clinicaltrials.gov) were searched to collect protocols of TCM for COVID-19. Documents were screened following the inclusion criteria, and data were extracted in regard to registration date, study objective, type of design, sponsor, patient, sample size, intervention, and evaluation index. Descriptive analysis was conducted. A total of 49 clinical trial protocols of TCM for COVID-19 were included. Primary sponsors were mainly hospitals or universities in places like Hubei, Beijing, Zhejiang and other regions. The implementation units are mainly in Hubei, Guangdong, Zhejiang, Henan and other regional hospitals. The types of study design were mainly experimental studies(40), including 30 randomized parallel controlled trials, 7 non-randomized controlled trials, 2 single arm trials and 1 consecutively recruited trial; besides, there were also 6 observational studies, 2 health service studies and 1 preventive study. The sample size reached a total of 30 562 cases, with a maximum of 20 000 for a single study and a minimum of 30. The 49 trials subjects included healthy people(3), isolation and observation cases(1), suspected cases(10),confirmed COVID-19 patients(31) and COVID-19 recovery patients(4). Of the 31 trials planned to include confirmed COVID-19 patients, 16 protocols no definite disease classification, 3 with a clear exclusion of severe subjects, 4 with common subjects, 2 with light, common or severe subjects, 1 with light and common subjects, 1 with common or severe subjects, 3 with severe subjects, and 1 with severe or critical subjects. The experimental interventions included Chinese patent medicine(Lianhua Qingwen Capsules/Granules, Huoxiang Zhengqi Dropping Pills/Oral Liquid, Babao Dan, Gubiao Jiedu Ling, Jinhao Jiere Granules, Compound Yu-xingcao Mixture, Jinye Baidu Granules, Shufeng Jiedu Capsuless, Shuanghuanglian Oral Liquid, Tanreqing Injection, Xuebijing Injection, Reduning Injection, Xiyanping Injection), Chinese medicinal decoction and taichi. The primary evaluation outcomes mainly included antipyretic time, clinical symptom relief, novel coronavirus nucleic acid turning to negative, conversion rate of severe cases and chest CT. There was a quick response of clinical research on the prevention and treatment of COVID-19 with TCM, with the current registered protocols covers the whole process of disease prevention, treatment and rehabilitation. However, issues need to be concerned, including unclear definition of patient's condition, unclear research objectives, unclear intervention process and inappropriate outcomes, etc. In addition, researchers should consider the actual difficulties and workload of doctors in epidemic response environment, and make effort to optimize the process and improve the operability of research protocols under the principle of medical ethics.

ABSTRACT

To investigate the regularity of prescription and clinical syndromes by analyzing the diagnosis and treatment protocols of traditional Chinese medicine(TCM) for coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19), so as to provide references for syndrome differentiation and relevant researches. The diagnosis and treatment protocols of COVID-19 published by national and regional health authorities were searched, and information was extracted in regard to disease stages, type of syndromes, and prescriptions, etc. Frequency statistics and relative analysis were used to analyze the rule of syndrome differentiation and prescription with TCM, and further discussion on the pathogenesis and progress of the disease. A total of 26 diagnosis and treatment protocols of TCM for COVID-19 were retrieved after screening(including 1 national scheme and 25 regional ones), among which 16 contained aspects of both prevention and treatment, 7 only involved treatment contents and 3 were prevention schemes. The courses of COVID-19 can be divided into early stage, middle stage, severe stage and recovery stage. The pathogeny of COVID-19 in TCM is damp-toxin, with the core pathogenesis of damp-toxin retention in lung and Qi repression. Its pathological features can be summarized as "damp, toxin, obstruction, deficiency". The location of the disease is lung, always involving spleen and stomach, and may further affect heart and kidney in severe cases. The major treatments for each course are Fanghua Shizuo, Xuanfei Touxie(early stage); Qingre Jiedu, Xuanxie Feire(middle stage); Kaibi Gutuo, Huiyang Jiuni(severe stage); Qingjie Yure, Yiqi Yangyin(recovery stage). There were many diagnosis and treatment protocols for COVID-19 have been published, which generally followed the national edition, through with certain personalities in different regional protocols. There were common features with respect to the disease stage, syndrome differentiation, therapeutic principles and methods, as well as prescriptions; the treatment were generally carried out against the core pathogenesis and progress of the disease. Along with the deepening recognition of COVID-19, the diagnosis and treatment protocols are still need further concretization and standardization. We hope researchers and decision-makers can pay more attention to the treatment of Huayu Tongluo in severe and recovery period.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: To provide evidence for medical management of chronic idiopathic constipation (CIC) in China based on comparisons of all clinical practical interventions using Bayesian network meta-analysis. METHODS: We conducted a systematic literature review by searching PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Central, the China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), and the Wanfang Database (inception to May 2019) for randomized controlled trials (RCTs) for CIC in Chinese people. Only RCTs that recruited participants aged over 18 and diagnosed with CIC by the Rome II, III or IV criteria were included. We used three outcomes to examine efficacy. The risk ratio (RR) of the responder rate, based on ≥3 spontaneous bowel movements (SBMs) per week after treatment, was the primary outcome, and the SBM count per week and the Bristol score (BS) were secondary outcomes. In addition, adverse effects (AEs) were also considered a secondary outcome to evaluate safety. We conducted Bayesian network meta-analysis with random effects, and the RR or mean difference with its 95% credible interval was calculated. In addition, we ranked all treatments via their cumulative curves (SUCRA) and assessed the quality of evidence according to the GRADE criteria. RESULTS: We included a total of 42 trials (6820 participants) of 20 grouped interventions that included pharmacological and nonpharmacological treatments. For the primary outcome, fourteen interventions were significantly better than placebo, and Probiotics plus Mosapride (PB + MP) appeared superior to others (GRADE quality of evidence: Moderate to Low), followed by Prucalopride (PP) (High to Low) and Electroacupuncture (EA) (High to Low). For SBM, Compound sodium bicarbonate suppository (CSBS) appeared to be best, with an SUCRA value of 90% (High to Low). For BS, Lactulose plus Probiotics (LT + PB) was superior to others (Moderate to Low), followed by Polyethylene glycol (PEG) (High to Moderate). Although all interventions appeared non-significant when compared with placebo in terms of adverse effects, Lactulose plus Mosapride showed greater risk than others on ranking probability. CONCLUSIONS: Given the GRADE assessment, PB + MP, PP and EA may be the priory options with moderate certainty in the quality of evidence for the primary outcome. For SBM, a CSBS may be the best option with moderate certainty in the quality of evidence. For BS, PEG may be the priory option with high certainty in the quality of evidence. However, due to a lack of high certainty in the quality of evidence, caution is needed when recommending the interventions. Because of the limitations, an increased number of trials are required for more accurate results.

ABSTRACT

Benzofurans are among the most popular structural units in bioactive natural products, however, the synthesis of such structures by radical cyclization cascade reactions is rare. Herein, we report a mild and broadly applicable method for the construction of complex benzofurylethylamine derivatives through a unique radical cyclization cascade mechanism. Single-electron transfer (SET) from 2-azaallyl anions to 2-iodo aryl allenyl ethers initiates a radical cyclization that is followed by intermolecular radical-radical coupling. This expedient approach enables the synthesis of a range of polycyclic benzofurans that would otherwise be difficult to prepare.

ABSTRACT

Polarization state of a wave field can be manipulated through the plasmonic metasurface consisting of orthogonal nanoslit pairs; the output polarization angle is independent of the incident linearly polarized light and is highly dependent on the orientations of nanoslit pairs. We combine the Archimedes spiral with the nanoslit pairs to compensate for the Pancharatnam-Berry (PB) phase induced by the orientation of nanoslits, as well as achieve the radially polarized vector beam (RPVB) under the illuminations of different linearly polarized lights. Experiments are performed to successfully realize the RPVB, and the results are in excellent agreement with the numerical simulations.
