ABSTRACT

The efficiency of chemiluminescence immunoassay (CIA) used as a treponemal test in the serological diagnosis of syphilis was evaluated, by applying the serum samples of 219 patients screened for syphilitic infection. The efficiency of CIA was evaluated in two steps: (1) comparison of the results of tests using the IMMULITE 2000 Syphilis Screen and LIAISON Syphilis screen reagent kits; (2) that of the results of tests applying the IMMULITE 2000 Syphilis Screen and Recombi Best antipallidum-summary antibodies kits. A 100% correlation was found when comparing the results of tests employing the IMMULITE 2000 Syphilis Screen and DiaSorin LIAISON Syphilis Screen kits (n=66). Comparison of CIA using the IMMULITE 2000 Syphilis Screen kits versus that applying the Recombi Best antipallidum-summary antibodies kits (n=153) revealed 3 discordant samples, which amounted to 1.96% of the number of results. Evaluation of the impact of related microorganisms on the detection of T. pallidum antibodies (n= 140) with the IMMULITE 2000 Syphilis Screen kit indicated no interference or cross-reactivity.

ABSTRACT

Two types of heparin-bound growth factors (HBGF) are isolated from serum-free culture media of RH-PA cells, which are effective producers of urokinase type plasminogen activator, and from a lysate of these cells. According to affinity to heparin, molecular weight and cells proliferation stimulation, these HBGF are similar to basic and acidic fibroblast growth factors. It is shown that the obtained preparations, produced by RH-PA cells at 2 pg/ml concentration and more, exert mitogenic effect towards RH-PA and NIH 3T3 cells. This effect is additive to the bovine serum factors. It is established that urokinase at the 0.5-25 micrograms/ml concentration also exerts mitogenic effect. The addition of HBGF in concentration of more than 0.05 micrograms/ml significantly stimulates urokinase production. It is suggested that both the factors--HBGF and urokinase--may be elements of the common mechanism of autocrine regulation of the RH-PA cell line proliferation and urokinase production.

ABSTRACT

Diagnostic value of enzyme immunoassays and immunoagglutination kits based on monoclonal antibodies ICO 25 was investigated. Antigen CAg 25 occurred in minimal quantities (5 micrograms/ml maximum) or was absent in the bronchoalveolar lavage of patients with bronchial asthma, chronic bronchitis or free of pulmonary affection. The concentration 9-19 micrograms/ml was registered in epidermoid bronchial cancer and peripheral lung cancer. It is stated that test systems able to detect a new antigen CAg 25 in BAL are diagnostically significant.

ABSTRACT

Effects of a new preparation, adaptokhit, on the intestinal microbiocenosis and some parameters of immune resistance were studied in Macaque rhesus during 13-day hypokinesia. Experimental animals were given adaptokhit as an alimentary supplement preventing dysbiotic consequences of the microecologic unbalance due to motor restraint. Results of the investigation showed certain distinctions in the intestinal microflora in the experimental and control animals as early as on day three of the experiment. Intestinal microflora of the experimental primates who daily consumed adaptokhit at 50 mg/kg of the body remained stable throughout the period of observation. In contrast, in their controls lactoflora was found to decrease in parallel to the growth of opportunistically pathogenic endobacteria including representatives of Proteus and Clostridia sp., and development of dysbacteriosis of categories II and III. Besides, in the experimental animals adaptokhit prevented decline in the proliferative activity of lymphocytes further into adaptation. Also, at the final stage of observation following canceling the preparation there were signs of normalization of the allergologic status of primates in the experimental group. Therefore, adaptokhit can be used as an alimentary supplement to strengthen the colony resistance of animals in extreme conditions.
