ABSTRACT
BACKGROUND: Observational studies suggest that voluntary medical male circumcision (VMMC) may lower HIV risk among men who have sex with men (MSM). A randomized controlled trial (RCT) is needed to confirm this. OBJECTIVE: To assess the efficacy of VMMC in preventing incident HIV infection among MSM. DESIGN: An RCT with up to 12 months of follow-up. (Chinese Clinical Trial Registry: ChiCTR2000039436). SETTING: 8 cities in China. PARTICIPANTS: Uncircumcised, HIV-seronegative men aged 18 to 49 years who self-reported predominantly practicing insertive anal intercourse and had 2 or more male sex partners in the past 6 months. INTERVENTION: VMMC. MEASUREMENTS: Rapid testing for HIV was done at baseline and at 3, 6, 9, and 12 months. Behavioral questionnaires and other tests for sexually transmitted infections were done at baseline, 6 months, and 12 months. The primary outcome was HIV seroconversion using an intention-to-treat analysis. RESULTS: The study enrolled 124 men in the intervention group and 123 in the control group, who contributed 120.7 and 123.1 person-years of observation, respectively. There were 0 seroconversions in the intervention group (0 infections [95% CI, 0.0 to 3.1 infections] per 100 person-years) and 5 seroconversions in the control group (4.1 infections [CI, 1.3 to 9.5 infections] per 100 person-years). The HIV hazard ratio was 0.09 (CI, 0.00 to 0.81; P = 0.029), and the HIV incidence was lower in the intervention group (log-rank P = 0.025). The incidence rates of syphilis, herpes simplex virus type 2, and penile human papillomavirus were not statistically significantly different between the 2 groups. There was no evidence of HIV risk compensation. LIMITATION: Few HIV seroconversions and limited follow-up period. CONCLUSION: Among MSM who predominantly practice insertive anal intercourse, VMMC is efficacious in preventing incident HIV infection; MSM should be included in VMMC guidelines. Newly diagnosed HIV cases often do not clearly indicate whether they are recent or long-standing infections. We collected the history of HIV antibody testing, sexual behavior and initial CD4 + T cell (CD4) count of newly diagnosed HIV/AIDS to determine the time and location of HIV infections. Of the included 612 cases, 17.3% were classified as recent HIV infection. Recent HIV infections were higher in cases aged < 30 (adjusted odds ratio [AOR] = 4.267, 95% Confidence Interval [CI] 1.856-9.813) and 30-49 (AOR = 2.847, 95%CI 1.356-5.977) vs. ≥50, and the transmission mode was men who have sex with men (MSM) (AOR = 4.130, 95%CI 1.815-9.399) was higher than heterosexual contact. Of the 582 cases, 80.8% were classified as local HIV infection (An infection occurred in the two survey districts). Local HIV infections were higher in cases being single and divorced/widowed (AOR = 2.511, 95% CI 1.271-4.962) vs. being married, residing in the survey districts ≥ 5 years (AOR = 168.962, 95%CI 64.942-439.593) vs. < 1 year, transmission mode was MSM (AOR = 8.669, 95%CI 2.668-28.163) vs. heterosexual contact, and acquired infections through spouses or steady partners (AOR = 11.493, 95%CI 3.236-40.819) vs. commercial partners. Both recent and local HIV infections were higher in cases whose transmission mode was MSM, we recommended using internet platforms and MSM dating apps for HIV education and intervention, promoting internet intervention tools to raise awareness about HIV and facilitate early detection.
ABSTRACT
BACKGROUND: Over the past few years, HIV transmission among men who have sex with men (MSM) in China has increased significantly. Chongqing, located in the southwest of China, has the highest prevalence of HIV among MSM in the country. METHODS: Blood samples were taken from 894 MSM in Chongqing who had recently been diagnosed with HIV-1 infection and had not yet started getting treatment. In order to determine the distribution of HIV-1 subtypes, transmitted drug resistance, and assessments of molecularly transmitted clusters, we sequenced the Pol genes and employed them in phylogenetic analysis. The genetic distance between molecular clusters was 1.5%. To find potential contributing factors, logistic regression analyses were performed. RESULTS: Of the 894 HIV-1 pol sequences acquired from study participants, we discovered that CRF07_BC (73.6%) and CRF01_AE (19.6%) were the two most prevalent HIV-1 genotypes in Chongqing among MSM, accounting for 93.2% of all infections. In addition, CRF08_BC (1.1%), B subtype (1.0%), CRF55_01B (3.4%), and URF/Other subtypes (1.3%) were less frequently observed. Among MSM in Chongqing, transmitted drug resistance (TDR) was reported to be present at a rate of 5.6%. 48 clusters with 600 (67.1%, 600/894) sequences were found by analysis of the molecular transmission network. The distributions of people by age, sexual orientation, syphilis, and genotype were significantly differentially related to being in clusters, according to the multivariable logistic regression model. CONCLUSION: Despite the low overall prevalence of TDR, the significance of genotypic drug resistance monitoring needs to be emphasized. CRF07_BC and CRF01_AE were the two main genotypes that created intricate molecular transmission networks. In order to prevent the expansion of molecular networks and stop the virus's spread among MSM in Chongqing, more effective HIV intervention plans should be introduced.

OBJECTIVES: This study aimed to explore the factors associated with the sexual needs and behaviours among elderly men living with HIV/AIDS in Chongqing, China. STUDY DESIGN: The study used a cross-sectional design. METHODS: Data were collected through face-to-face interviews using a structured questionnaire by convenience sampling from July to December 2021. The chi-squared test and logistic regression were conducted to identify factors associated with sexual needs and behaviours. RESULTS: In total, 63.70% of participants (493/774) reported having sexual needs. Individuals aged 50-59 years (odds ratio [OR] = 7.257, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 4.620, 11.401) and those who were married or cohabiting (OR = 1.595, 95% CI: 1.133, 2.246) reported high sexual needs. Among those with sexual needs, 69.17% (341/493) reported having sex in the past year. In total, 11.37% (40/341) and 9.68% (33/341) reported having commercial and casual sex, respectively. Participants aged 60-69 years (OR = 2.175, 95% CI: 1.128, 4.193), those who were married or cohabiting (OR = 3.371, 95% CI: 2.192, 5.184) and individuals who were employed (OR = 2.301, 95% CI: 1.339, 3.954) had higher odds of engaging in sexual behaviour, while participants with an awareness of AIDS-related knowledge (OR = 0.504, 95% CI: 0.307, 0.829) and those who had ≥1 year of antiretroviral therapy (ART) (ART 1-2 years: OR = 0.374, 95% CI: 0.176, 0.795; ART ≥3 years: OR = 0.429, 95% CI: 0.218, 0.846) had a lower likelihood of engaging in sexual behaviour. CONCLUSIONS: The sexual needs and behaviours of elderly men living with HIV/AIDS in Chongqing, China, remain at a high level. There was a discrepancy between sexual needs and behaviours among elderly men living with HIV/AIDS. Continuous dissemination of sexual health education and the promotion of condom use are necessary.
ABSTRACT
Recent evidence shows that circumcision is associated with lower HIV prevalence among MSM. We assessed the acceptability of circumcision for preventing HIV and that of Shang Ring circumcision (SRC) among men who have sex with men (MSM) in China. 538 adult MSM were recruited from six cities in China between January and March 2019. Participants were surveyed by an online, self-administered questionnaire. The acceptability of circumcision was assessed before and after the potential protective effect of circumcision against HIV was informed, and subsequently men's willingness to undergo SRC was assessed. The level of circumcision was 16.4%. Of 450 uncircumcised MSM, their willingness to be circumcised in the following six months increased significantly from 32.2% to 55.6% after the information session. Three quarters of men who were willing to undergo circumcision accepted SRC. MSM who perceived that circumcision could maintain genital hygiene were more likely to accept circumcision after the information session, whereas those who regarded circumcision as an embarrassing surgery were disinclined to be circumcised. The low circumcision rate, along with its high acceptability in Chinese MSM, suggests a great potential benefit of circumcision intervention if proved effective. SRC might be a popular circumcision procedure in this population.

PURPOSE: Studies have found a positive correlation between various cancers and circular RNAs (circRNAs), which are newly discovered noncoding RNAs. However, limited scientific evidence is available to prove the clinical value of circRNAs in the presentation of oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC). This study aimed to explore comprehensively the potential of circRNAs as diagnostic indexes of OSCC. METHODS: Online databases were systematically searched to identify published literature on the discovery of circRNAs in OSCC. Data were acquired from each reviewed study and collated to create a 2 × 2 eventuality table. Hierarchical analysis of the literature was conducted for the type of cancer, year of publication, and the sample size of each study. The diagnostic accuracy was calculated using indexes such as the pooled sensitivity and specificity, and assessed critically using the Quality Assessment for Studies of Diagnostic Accuracy 2. RESULTS: This meta-analysis included findings of 6 studies on 335 patients diagnosed with OSCC. These 6 studies examined 7 circRNAs, 5 in tissues and 2 in the saliva of patients with OSCC. When used as a diagnostic tool for OSCC, circRNAs manifested a sensitivity level of 0.72 (95% confidence interval: 0.67 to 0.76) and a degree of specificity of 0.81 (95% confidence interval: 0.76 to 0.85), with a general projected probability rate of 3.82 (95% confidence interval: 2.98 to 4.91) being positive and 0.35 (95% confidence interval: 0.29 to 0.41) being negative. The combined probability rate was 11.07 (95% confidence interval: 7.64 to 16.04), comprising a total of 0.76 (95% confidence interval: 0.72 to 0.79) of the region under the curve. A higher diagnostic value was found for salivary circRNAs (diagnostic odds ratio = 17.52; 95% CI: 10.11 to 30.35) than for tissue circRNAs (diagnostic odds ratio = 8.47; 95% CI: 5.6 to 12.83). This indicated that circRNAs showed a good discrimination ability as biomarkers of OSCC. CONCLUSIONS: circRNAs showed high accuracy in the diagnosis of OSCC and could be used as prospective biomarkers to facilitate the diagnostic process.

BACKGROUND: Young men who have sex with men (YMSM) are particularly at increased risk for human papillomavirus (HPV) infection and related malignancies. Rectal douching, commonly practiced among MSM, has been associated with HIV, chlamydia, gonorrhea, and viral hepatitis in cross-sectional studies. We conducted this study to understand the association between self-reported rectal douching and anal HPV among YMSM in China. METHODS: Between September 2018 and March 2019, MSM aged 15 to 24 years who ever engaged in receptive anal intercourse over the last 3 months were recruited via community-based organizations and centers for disease control located in 4 cities in China. Participants were asked to complete an online survey. We performed multivariate logistic regression adjusted for potential confounders to examine the association between self-reported rectal douching and anal HPV. RESULTS: Among 273 MSM with a median age of 20 years (interquartile range, 19-21 years) included in this study, 130 (47.6%) practiced rectal douching during the preceding 3 months and 96 (36.2%) were infected with anal HPV. Self-reported rectal douching was found to be associated with increased odds of anal HPV infection (odds ratio, 2.16; 95% confidence interval, 1.22-3.82) among YMSM, after adjusting for age, sexual debut, sex with alcohol or drugs, and HIV testing history. CONCLUSIONS: Self-reported rectal douching is associated with higher odds of anal HPV infection independent of sexual behaviors among YMSM. More prospective studies to ascertain this association are needed. Health education materials should inform men of the potential risk of rectal douching. Research on safer rectal douching procedures is warranted.

BACKGROUND: Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) prevalence and incidence rates have expeditiously increased among Chongqing men who have sex with men (MSM) over the past decade. This study investigated the trends of HIV, syphilis, and hepatitis C virus (HCV) infections and behavioral attributes of Chongqing MSM. METHODS: Chongqing MSM who were 18 years or older were recruited annually from 2011 to 2018. Interviewer-administered paper-pencil interviews were used to collect demographics, behavioral information, and sexually transmitted diseases history. Blood samples were collected for the tests of HIV, syphilis, and HCV. A stepwise regression model was conducted to assess the associations of demographics, behaviors, and syphilis and HCV infections with HIV infection. RESULTS: A total of 4900 MSM participated in the study. The average HIV, syphilis, and HCV prevalence over 8 years were 15.4%, 4.0%, and 0.3%, respectively. The HIV prevalence ranged from 13.5% to 16.4%. Syphilis and HCV were generally low and stable across years. An increased proportion of participants received HIV counseling, testing, and condoms. Multivariable regression indicated that HIV-positive MSM were more likely to be older, married, and less educated, and they were more likely to perform unprotected anal intercourse with male partners in the past 6 months, have syphilis, and less likely to receive HIV counseling, testing, condoms, and peer education in the past year. CONCLUSIONS: The HIV counseling, testing, and peer education programs showed a negative association with HIV-positive status among Chongqing MSM. The HIV prevalence is still high. More programs must be implemented to effectively curb the HIV epidemic.

BACKGROUND: The primary risk of HIV transmission in China has shifted from injecting drug use (IDU) to sexual contact since 2006. We evaluated the prevalence trends of HIV, hepatitis C virus (HCV), syphilis, and sexual and drug use behaviors among drug users. Methods: People who use drugs participated in any of four rounds of cross-sectional surveys during 2010-2017 in Chongqing. Participants were tested for HIV, HCV, and syphilis. Questionnaire interviewing was conducted to collect behavioral information. Chi-square and trend tests were employed to assess the changes in diseases and behaviors over time. Results: A total of 8,171 people who inject drugs (PWID) and 5,495 non-injection drug users (NIDU) were included in the analyses. HIV prevalence among PWID in four rounds of the survey in 2010-11, 2012-13, 2014-15, and 2016-17 was 11.5%, 9.7%, 6.5%, and 6.9%, and among NIDU, 2.4%, 1.4%, 2.1% and 2.6%, respectively. HCV prevalence among PWID was 83.5%, 85.2%, 67.1% and 79.7% (P < 0.001), and among NIDU, 22.2%, 10.8%, 13.4% and 14.8%, (P < 0.001). Conclusions: The declining HIV and HCV prevalence among PWID is coincident with declining risky drug use behaviors. Tailored disease prevention and interventions targeting PWID and NIDU are needed.
ABSTRACT
BACKGROUND: HIV testing plays a central role in the combat against HIV. We aimed to determine if the availability of HIV self-testing (HIVST) would increase the frequency of testing among men who have sex with men (MSM) attending university in China. METHODS: A stepped wedge randomized controlled trial will be conducted in 4 provinces in China: Chongqing, Guangdong, Shandong, and Tianjin. Eligibility assessment will include (1) male, aged 16 years or older, (2) university student (technical diploma and undergraduate students), (3) MSM (sexual behaviors including mutual masturbation, oral sex, and anal sex), (4) HIV negative, and (5) willing to provide informed consent. Participants will be randomly allocated to HIV self-testing intervention with free HIVST kits in every 30 days according to the intervention waiting lists with a computer-generated randomized sequence. All participants will complete a self-administrated online questionnaire onsite at baseline and 12-month follow-up and complete an online questionnaire at 4- and 8-month. The primary outcome is the effect of HIVST on HIV testing frequency. Secondary outcomes include the change in sexual behaviors and HIV incidence. DISCUSSION: No previous study had measured the effect of social media based HIVST intervention on the change in HIV testing behaviors, sexual behaviors and incident HIV infection among MSM attending university in China. Findings from this study will provide evidence for further interventional practice promotions and prevention strategies scale-up, including HIV testing, pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) or post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP), and sexual partner serosorting. TRIAL REGISTRATION: Chinese Clinical Trial Registry: ChiCTR1900020645. Registered 11 January 2019.

BACKGROUND: Men who have sex with men (MSM) are disproportionately affected by HIV and other STIs worldwide. Rectal douching, which is commonly used by MSM in preparation for anal sex, may increase the risk of HIV and other STIs by injuring the rectal mucosa. Results from individual studies reporting associations between rectal douching and HIV and other STIs among MSM are inconsistent. We performed a systematic review and meta-analysis to estimate the association between rectal douching and HIV and other STIs among MSM. METHODS: We searched PubMed, Embase, Scopus and Web of Science for studies published from January 1970 to November 2018. Studies that reported ORs and 95% CIs of associations between rectal douching and infection with HIV/STIs, or reported enough data to calculate these estimates, were included. We assessed risk of bias using the Newcastle-Ottawa Scale. ORs were pooled using a random effects model. RESULTS: Twenty-eight eligible studies were identified in our review, of which 24 (20 398 participants) were included in the meta-analysis. Rectal douching was associated with increased odds of infection with HIV (OR 2.80, 95% CI 2.32 to 3.39), and any STI other than HIV (including hepatitis B virus (HBV), hepatitis C virus (HCV), chlamydia, gonorrhoea, syphilis and human papillomavirus) (OR 2.46, 95% CI 1.95 to 3.11) among MSM. For specific STIs, douching was associated with increased odds of viral hepatitis (HBV, HCV) (OR 3.29, 95% CI 2.79 to 3.87), and chlamydia or gonorrhoea (OR 3.25, 95% CI 2.02 to 5.23). These associations remained significant in studies that adjusted for potential confounders. CONCLUSION: Rectal douching may put MSM at increased risk for infection with HIV and other STIs. Longitudinal studies are needed to clarify this association, and health education materials should inform men of the potential for increased risk of infection with rectal douching.

BACKGROUND: Chongqing reportedly has a large MSM population and a high STI prevalence in previous studies. However, most studies are attributed to independent cross-sectional studies, few studies have investigated trends in the prevalence of syphilis and HIV, as well as behavioural characteristics among MSM using serial surveillance surveys. METHODS: Data were collected in Chongqing through face-to-face questionnaire interview and laboratory testing in Chongqing. The respondents were recruited among MSM by snowball sampling from May 2013 to December 2017. The self-report questionnaire primarily included socio-demographics, HIV knowledge, and HIV-related behaviour characteristics over the year. Blood specimens were tested to diagnose HIV and syphilis infection by Chongqing CDC. Cochran-Armitage trend test and multivariate logistic regression were conducted to compare the changes in STI prevalence and independent behavioural factors among MSM. RESULTS: There were 6568 eligible participants (98.4%). The overall HIV prevalence was 20.5% among MSM in Chongqing, with a decrease from 23.0% in 2013 to 19.2% in 2017. The overall syphilis prevalence was 5.8%, with an increase from 3.2% in 2013 to 6.7% in 2017. The proportion of consistent condom use (CCU) during anal intercourse (46.3 to 57.7%, P<0.001),CCU with regular male partners(47.7 to 59.7%, P<0.001), CCU with casual male partners (51.5 to 62.3%, P<0.001) and drug use during anal intercourse (0.3 to 1.4%, P<0.05) were increasing. By contrast, a significant decrease was reported in the percentage of MSM with more than two regular male partners (66.0 to 21.4%, P<0.001) and more than two casual male partners (38.3 to 20.7%, P<0.001). A significant difference was observed in syphilis infection, testing for HIV antibodies and drug use during anal intercourse in the past years between the HIV-positive and HIV-negative respondents. CONCLUSION: A decreasing trend of HIV prevalence was showed during among MSM from 2013 to 2017 in Chongqing. While gradual reduction of high-risk behaviors along with HIV prevalence supported development of STI counselling and testing, increasing syphilis infection and drug use during anal intercourse warrants further understanding.

BACKGROUND: In China, antiretroviral therapy (ART) clinics focus on treating people living with HIV and are not required to undertake testing of high-risk populations. To improve partner testing among MSM, we implemented a health communication pilot intervention integrating partner testing with ART services. We aimed to assess the feasibility of the partner referral service and identify the predictors of both successful partner referral for HIV testing and HIV-positive test results among referred partners. METHODS: This program ran from April 2014 through December 2015 at designated ART clinics in six cities. The index participants, men living with HIV enrolled at an ART clinic, were assigned a case manager who assumed responsibility for routine ART-related counseling and mobilization of HIV-positive index participants for partner referral testing. Case managers were either nurses or contract staff. The successful referral rate was the proportion of index participants who referred a sexual partner for HIV testing. The HIV-positive partner rate was the proportion of the newly referred contacts who tested HIV-positive. Factors associated with the successful referral rate and the HIV-positive partner rate were assessed. RESULTS: Two thousand three hundred eighty-two index participants were enrolled. The median age was 30 years (IQR 26-37). 829index participants (34.80%) successfully referred at least one sexual partner for screening, and 92 (11.10%) referred partners were HIV-positive. Having a hospital nurse as case manager was associated with both successful partner referral (AHR = 1.56, 95% CI = 1.36-1.80) and having a HIV-positive partner (AHR = 2.35, 95% CI = 1.45-3.92). Index participants who were married (AHR = 1.44, 95% CI = 1.20-1.73) or employed (AHR = 1.29, 95% CI = 1.11-1.49) were more likely to successfully refer a partner for testing. Stable male partner relations were more likely to result in a referred partner testing HIV-positive (AHR = 5.50, 95% CI = 1.85-16.39). CONCLUSION: Our findings indicated that integration of MSM partner testing with ART services via health communication was feasible. Nurses as case managers effectively encouraged index participants to refer their sexual partners for HIV testing.

HIV among men who have sex with men (MSM) with recent male-male sexual debut, such as within the past 5 years, may be a proxy for recent HIV infection. Using this definition, we explored factors associated with HIV infection in this group to understand the evolving HIV epidemic among MSM in Chongqing. We conducted a cross-sectional respondent-driven sampling survey among Chongqing MSM in 2011. Computer-assisted, self-administered questionnaires were used and blood specimens were collected for HIV and syphilis testing. Three hundred and ninety-one unique MSM were recruited of which 65.7 % (257) had their sexual debut with another man in the past 5 years. HIV prevalence among men with recent sexual debut was 18.7 % suggesting a possible HIV incidence of 3.7 %. Multivariable analysis among men with recent sexual debut suggests that lower education, having more than one male partner, and currently being infected with syphilis are associated with HIV among men with recent sexual debut. HIV prevalence is high among MSM with recent sexual debut in Chongqing, which may be a proxy a high incidence rate. HIV prevention efforts should focus on STD reduction among those MSM with lower educational attainment.

HIV is spreading among Chinese MSM and may possibly lead to infection of female partners. Pressure to marry may drive a greater proportion of Chinese MSM to have female partners than MSM elsewhere in the world. Measurement of the size of the potential risk to female partners of Chinese MSM is inconsistent in the literature. From samples of MSM in two Chinese cities, we documented numbers of sexual partners and sexual activity with those partners. About 500 MSM were sampled in each city. 11.0 and 12.6 % of men reported having any female partners in the past 6 months in Chongqing and Beijing, respectively. Men also reported that only 7.3 and 6.7 % of their entire partnerships were with women in Chongqing and Beijing, respectively. Defining transmission risk accounting for receptive anal sex among men and condom non-use with both male and female partners, 3.4 % of MSM in both Chongqing and Beijing would have the potential to transmit HIV to female partners. Only 9 (1.8 ) men in Chongqing and 2 (0.4 %) in Beijing were HIV-positive and also had unprotected intercourse with females. The majority of HIV transmission risk among MSM in China is not from MSM to females.

OBJECTIVES: To investigate the incidence of syphilis infection and to determine the risk factors related to syphilis infection among young men who had sex with men (YMSM), which were documented for developing effective intervention to prevent sexually transmitted diseases among YMSM. METHODS: A cohort study was conducted in 8 cities (Beijing, Shanghai, Kunming,Guiyang, Chongqing, Chengdu, Urumqi and Nanning) from May to December, 2009. A total of 1 037 syphilis-negative YMSM aged 18-25 were enrolled in the cohort and the two follow-up surveys were carried out every six months. The contents of study included sociodemographic characteristics, HIV-related knowledge, sexual behavior and condom use in the 6 months prior to survey. All participants were tested for syphilis with whole blood specimens. Chi-square test was used to compare demographic characteristics of participants in baseline with those of two follow-up, and Cox regression analysis was used to identify risk factors associated with syphilis infection. RESULTS: The rates of participants in 6, 12 months follow-up surveys was 79.85% (828/1 037) and 82.16% (852/1 037) respectively.39 syphilis seroconversions were found in the 12 months follow-up survey. Cumulative observed person-years during follow-up time was 1 106.67. The syphilis incidence rate was 3.5%. The Multivariate Cox regression analysis showed that the education of senior high school (senior high school vs some college or higher, RR = 2.19, 95% CI:1.21-3.98), bisexual orientation (bisexual orientation vs homosexual orientation, RR = 2.19, 95% CI:1.21-3.97), score of HIV/AIDS knowledge <8 (score of HIV/AIDS knowledge <8 vs knowledge = 8, RR = 2.39, 95%CI:1.35-4.21), had two and more sexual partners and inconsistent condom use in the past 6 months (inconsistent condom use vs consistent condom use, RR = 3.10, 95% CI:1.39-6.91) were significantly associated with syphilis seroconversion in the 12-month period. CONCLUSIONS: The syphilis incidence was high and risk behaviors were common among YMSM of China.

Poly-L-lactin acid (PLLA) has been widely used in the field of bio-medicine. In 2004, as an injectable material, PLLA was approved by the FDA to treat AIDS-related facial atrophy. Since then, several injectable stuffs containing PLLA have been approved for marketing in various countries and regions. Recently, PLLA has often been used to treat facial rejuvenation problems like cutaneous depressions and static wrinkles which always induce unsatisfactory facial expression. This review introduces the physicochemical properties, regeneration stimulating mechanism, applications in aesthetics and injectable comorbidity of PLLA.

Rhytidectomy has made great progress in the past 50 years, especially after the proposition of the concept of superficial musculoaponeurotic system (SMAS). Our previous research had classified SMAS rhytidectomy into basic SMAS rhytidectomy (B-SMAS) and comprehensive SMAS rhytidectomy (C-SMAS) according to whether the treatment of SMAS aponeurosis is combined with retaining ligament, fat pad, mimetic muscles, etc. The purpose of this paper is to compare the outcomes of the 2 methods. Through multicenter collaborative research, 21 cases of B-SMAS and 18 cases of C-SMAS were collected. Photographs were taken pre- and post-operation for each patient, and the facial width of the lateral canthus level (upper face), the alar base level (middle face), and the oral commissure level (lower face) were measured. We compared the statistics of upper, middle, and lower face pre- and post-B-SMAS and C-SMAS to assess the ramifications of each operation. We used preoperative measurements minus corresponding postoperative measurements of specific operation to assess which position would acquire superior improvements. We also recruited 3 professional plastic clinicians to rate the ramifications of specific positions and approaches after pre- and post-photo comparing. Through comprehensive analyzing, we compared the improvements between B-SMAS and C-SMAS to assess which method is more beneficial concerning facial rejuvenation. Both B-SMAS and C-SMAS would acquire optimal changing concerning facial width in middle and lower face after operation (Pâ <â .05). Two methods all harvested better width changing effects in middle and lower face than upper face (Pâ <â .05). However, C-SMAS acquired better effects in middle and lower face than B-SMAS (Pâ <â .05). Both B-SMAS and C-SMAS are beneficial to facial rejuvenation. The effects in middle and lower face are better than upper face. In addition, C-SMAS may be more effective than B-SMAS.

To comprehensively investigate the molecular transmission patterns of HIV-1 genotypes among men who have sex with men (MSM) in Chongqing, we employed 392 pol sequences of MSM to construct a phylogenetic tree and gene transmission network. Among the viral subtypes, CRF07_BC accounted for 73.2% (287/392) and CRF01_AE accounted for 20.7% (81/392), emerging as the predominant subtypes in this investigation. Additionally, we observed the presence of CRF55_01B, subtype B, CRF08_BC and other circulating recombinant forms. The HIV-1 molecular network was constructed with a gene distance threshold of 1.5%, resulting in an entry rate of 61.4% (241/392). Within the network, we identified a total of 23 molecular clusters, with the largest cluster being the CRF07_BC molecular cluster comprising 148 node values. Transmitted drug-resistance (TDR) mutations were found in 4.34% of the cases, with 1.79% associated with protease inhibitors (PIs), 0.51% with nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors (NRTIs), and 2.55% with non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors (NNRTIs). Statistical analysis indicated a higher enrollment rate in the HIV-1 molecular network among infected individuals with the CRF07_BC subtype, those identifying with same-sex sexual roles as "vers," and individuals with higher education levels. This suggests the need for strengthened investigation and intervention in this population to prevent the formation of larger transmission clusters. Furthermore, continuous monitoring of the HIV-1 molecular dynamics network is necessary to promptly and accurately track changes in molecular epidemic characteristics.

BACKGROUND: Sexual and reproductive health (SRH) is critical to the overall health of older adults. We assessed the utilization of SRH services and its correlates among older adults in China. METHODS: We recruited community-dwelling adults aged 50 and above in five Chinese cities between June 2020 and December 2022. In this study SRH services included reproductive health examination, cervical cancer screening, and sexual life counselling. Logistic regression was used to assess correlates of SRH services utilization. RESULTS: A total of 3001 older adults (1819 men and 1182 women) were enrolled. Among them, 11.4 % (343/3001) of participants received a reproductive health examination, 35.4 % (418/1182) of female participants received cervical cancer screening, and 30.1 % (401/1332) of sexually active participants sought help for their sexual lives. Older men with an annual income of USD 7500 or more (aOR = 3.21, 95%CI: 1.39-7.44), two or more chronic conditions (2.38, 1.39-4.08), and reproductive health problems (2.01, 1.18-3.43) were more likely to receive a urological examination. For older women, individuals who were younger (aged 50-59 years: 5.18, 2.84-9.43; aged 60-69 years: 2.67, 1.49-4.79), lived in an urban area (1.88, 1.31-2.71), were employed (1.73, 1.21-2.47), had two or more chronic conditions (2.04, 1.37-3.05), were sexually active (1.72, 1.15-2.58) and talked about sex (1.69, 1.21-2.36) were more likely to receive a gynecological examination. CONCLUSION: SRH services utilization among older adults was low, with urological examination among older men particularly low. SRH messages and services tailored for older adults are needed to enhance their utilization of SRH services.
