BACKGROUND: Firmiana danxiaensis is a critically endangered and ecologically important tree currently only found in four locations in Danxia or Karst habitats in northern Guangdong Province, China. The specialized habitat preference makes it an ideal model species for study of adaptive evolution. Meanwhile, the phylogenetic relationships of F. danxiaensis in four locations under two landforms are unclear. Therefore, we sequenced its complete chloroplast (cp.) genomes and conducted comprehensive interspecific and intrageneric plastome studies. RESULTS: The F. danxiaensis plastomes in four locations showed a typical quadripartite and circular structure that ranged from 160,832 to 161,206 bp in size, with 112 unique genes encoded. Comparative genomics showed that the plastomes of F. danxiaensis were relatively conserved with high similarity of genome organization, gene number, GC content and SSRs. While the genomes revealed higher biased codon preferences in Karst habitat than those in Danxia habitats. Eighteen and 11 divergent hotpots were identified at interspecific and intrageneric levels for species identification and further phylogenetic studies. Seven genes (clpP, accD, ccsA, ndhH, rpl20, rpoC2, and rps4) were under positive selection and may be related to adaptation. Phylogenetic analysis revealed that F. danxiaensis is sister to F. major and F. simplex. However, the interspecific relationships are not consistent with the habitat types. CONCLUSIONS: The characteristics and interspecific relationship of F. danxiaensis plastomes provide new insights into further integration of geographical factors, environmental factors, and genetic variations on the genomic study of F. danxiaensis. Together, our study will contribute to the study of species identification, population genetics, and conservation biology of F. danxiaensis.

Bolbitis is a pantropical fern genus of Dryopteridaceae with ca. 80 species mainly in tropical Asia. Earlier studies confirmed the monophyly of Bolbitis when Mickelia is excluded and identified three major clades in Bolbitis. However, earlier studies are based on relatively small sampling and the majority of Asian species are not sampled. In this study, DNA sequences of three plastid markers of 169 accessions representing ca. 68 (85 % of total) species of Bolbitis in nine out of the 10 series recognized by Hennipman (1977), and 54 accessions representing the five remaining bolbitidoid genera are used to infer a global phylogeny with a focus on Asian species. The major results include: (1) Bolbitis is strongly supported as monophyletic; (2) species of Bolbitis are resolved into four major clades and their relationships are: the Malagasy/Mascarene clade is sister to the rest, followed by the African clade which is sister to the American clade + the Asian clade; (3) six well-supported subclades are identified in the most speciose Asian clade; (4) the free-veined Egenolfia is embedded in Bolbitis and is paraphyletic in relation to species with anastomosing venation; (5) three series sensu Hennipman (1977), B. ser. Alienae, B. ser. Egenolfianae, and B. ser. Heteroclitae, are paraphyletic or polyphyletic; (6) evolution of six morphological characters is analyzed and free venation is found to have evolved from anastomosing venation and reversed to free venation in Bolbitis; and (7) biogeographical implications are drawn and it is shown that a single recent dispersal from Asia resulted in continental disjunction of closely related ferns of Bolbitis between Africa and America.

The inverted repeat-lacking clade (IRLC) is one of the most derived clades within the subfamily Papilionoideae of the legume family, and includes various economically important plants, e.g., chickpeas, peas, liquorice, and the largest genus of angiosperms, Astragalus. Tribe Wisterieae is one of the earliest diverged groups of the IRLC, and its generic delimitation and spatiotemporal diversification needs further clarifications. Based on genome skimming data, we herein reconstruct the phylogenomic framework of the IRLC, and infer the inter-generic relationships and historical biogeography of Wisterieae. We redefine tribe Caraganeae to contain Caragana only, and tribe Astragaleae is reduced to the Erophaca-Astragalean clade. The chloroplast capture scenario was hypothesized as the most plausible explanation of the topological incongruences between the chloroplast CDSs and nuclear ribosomal DNA trees in both the Glycyrrhizinae-Adinobotrys-Wisterieae clade and the Chesneyeae-Caraganeae-Hedysareae clade. A new name, Caragana lidou L. Duan & Z.Y. Chang, is proposed within Caraganeae. Thirteen genera are herein supported within Wisterieae, including a new genus, Villosocallerya L. Duan, J. Compton & Schrire, segregated from Callerya. Our biogeographic analyses suggest that Wisterieae originated in the late Eocene and its most recent common ancestor (MRCA) was distributed in continental southeastern Asia. Lineages of Wisterieae remained in the ancestral area from the early Oligocene to the early Miocene. By the middle Miocene, Whitfordiodendron and the MRCA of Callerya-Kanburia-Villosocallerya Clade became disjunct between the Sunda area and continental southeastern Asia, respectively; the MRCA of Wisteria migrated to North America via the Bering land bridge. The ancestor of Austrocallerya and Padbruggea migrated to the Wallacea-Oceania area, which split in the early Pliocene. In the Pleistocene, Wisteria brachybotrys, W. floribunda and Wisteriopsis japonica reached Japan, and Callerya cinerea dispersed to South Asia. This study provides a solid phylogenomic for further evolutionary/biogeographic/systematic investigations on the ecologically diverse and economically important IRLC legumes.

The early-branching Cladrastis clade of papilionoid legumes (Leguminosae, Papilionoideae) has an intriguing amphi-Pacific disjunct distribution in eastern Asia and temperate-tropical Americas. Here we used nuclear and three plastid regions to reconstruct the phylogenetic relationships and divergence times in the Cladrastis clade, as well as the evolution of morphological characters that might have been key in its biogeographic history. The ancestral character state estimation revealed that the most recent common ancestor of the Cladrastis clade was deciduous trees possessing compressed, winged fruits. The Cladrastis clade was inferred to have originated in the mid-latitude thermophilic forests of North America in the early Eocene, followed by the split between ancestors of wing-fruited Platyosprion and the non-wing-fruited group, and later the divergence of Cladrastis s.s. from the non-wing-fruited group in middle Eocene. Platyosprion and Cladrastis s.s. display an "out-of-North-America" biogeographic pattern and might have migrated to Asia via the Bering land bridge (BLB) or the North Atlantic land bridges (NALB) during middle to late Eocene. Our results, coupled with the relatively well documented fossil record for the clade, suggest that Platyosprion experienced an extinction event in North America caused by climatic cooling around the Eocene-Oligocene transition, which drove a major vegetation shift in western North America, in turn serving as a barrier for the vicariance of Pickeringia and Styphnolobium. The evolution of shrubby habit and sclerophyllous leaves in the former might be adaption to the chaparral vegetation in southwestern North America; the latter gained the trait of moniliform, succulent fruit. Styphnolobium further dispersed southward to tropical North America in the Oligocene, and eastward to Asia through BLB during middle Miocene. Subsequent sundering of BLB facilitated the vicariance of St. affine and St. japonicum.

Objective To observe the correlation between syndrome types of Chinese medicine (CM) and molecular subtyping of breast cancer in consolidation period. Methods Multivariate statistical analysis was applied in this research. Totally 612 breast cancer patients in consolidation period were as- signed to 4 syndrome types of CM [qi deficiency syndrome (22. 22% , 136/612) , Gan-qi stagnation syn- drome (21.73%, 133/612), Gan-Shen yin deficiency syndrome (20.10%, 123/612), Shen deficiency blood stasis syndrome (35. 95%, 220/612) ]. The correlation between each syndrome type and each molecular subtyping was respectively analyzed using Χ² (R x C table) test. Results Through statistical a- nalysis and expert consultation, results showed that cluster four types in consolidate period of breast cancer were compatible. Each syndrome type was correlated with each molecular subtyping in 612 breast cancer patients in consolidation period. Luminal type A was correlated with Gan-qi stagnation syndrome (P <0. 05). Luminal type B and triple negative type were correlated with qi deficiency syndrome and Gan- Shen yin deficiency syndrome (P <0. 05). But each syndrome type was not obviously correlated with dis- ease course. There was no obvious correlation between molecular subtyping and age/disease course (P >0. 05). Conclusion Luminal type A occupied the highest ratio in Gan-qi stagnation syndrome, with relatively better prognosis.

BACKGROUND: There are different opinions about the relationship of two disjunctively distributed varieties Adiantum reniforme L. var. sinense Y.X.Lin and Adiantum reniforme L. Adiantum reniforme var. sinense is an endangered fern only distributed in a narrowed region of Chongqing city in China, while Adiantum reniforme var. reniforme just distributed in Canary Islands and Madeira off the north-western African coast. To verify the relationship of these two taxa, relative phylogenetic analyses, karyotype analyses, microscopic spore observations and morphological studies were performed in this study. Besides, divergence time between A. reniforme var. sinense and A. reniforme var. reniforme was estimated using GTR model according to a phylogeny tree constructed with the three cpDNA markers atpA, atpB, and rbcL. RESULTS: Phylogenetic results and divergence time analyses--all individuals of A. reniforme var. sinense from 4 different populations (representing all biogeographic distributions) were clustered into one clade and all individuals of A. reniforme var. reniforme from 7 different populations (all biogeographic distributions are included) were clustered into another clade. The divergence between A. reniforme var. reniforme and A. reniforme var. sinense was estimated to be 4.94 (2.26-8.66) Myr. Based on karyotype analyses, A. reniforme var. reniforme was deduced to be hexaploidy with 2n = 180, X = 30, while A. reniforme var. sinense was known as tetraploidy. Microscopic spore observations suggested that surface ornamentation of A. reniforme var. reniforme is psilate, but that of A. reniforme var. sinense is rugate. Leaf blades of A. reniforme var. sinense are membranous and reniform and with several obvious concentric rings, and leaves of A. reniforme var. reniforme are pachyphyllous and coriaceous and are much rounder and similar to palm. CONCLUSION: Adiantum reniforme var. sinense is an independent species rather than the variety of Adiantum reniforme var. reniforme. As a result, we approve Adiantum nelumboides X. C. Zhang, nom. & stat. nov. as a legal name instead of the former Adiantum reniforme var. sinense. China was determined to be the most probable evolution centre based on the results of phylogenetic analyses, divergence estimation, relative palaeogeography and palaeoclimate materials.

RESUMO

Angiopterisnodosipetiolata Ting Wang tris, H.F.Chen & Y.H.Yan, a new fern of Marattiaceae, is described and illustrated. Morphologically, A.nodosipetiolata is similar to A.chingii with more than one naked pulvinus on the stipe and numerous jointed hairs on the undersides of the mature pinnae. However, the pinnae of A.nodosipetiolata are lanceolate and can reach up to 4-6 pairs, whereas they are elliptic and occur in 2-3 pairs in A.chingii. Phylogenetic and genetic distance analysis, based on the plastid genomes, also indicates that A.nodosipetiolata is not closely related to A.chingii. Currently, there are ca. 500 mature individuals in Gulinqing Nature Reserve and we suggest A.nodosipetiolata should be categorised as an Endangered (EN) species according to the criteria of IUCN.

Carexqingyuanensis, a new species of Cyperaceae from Guangdong Province, China, is described and illustrated. The new species is morphologically similar to Carexpeliosanthifolia F. T. Wang & Tang ex P. C. Li, but it can be distinguished by the racemose inflorescence branches appearing single (rarely binate or ternate) (vs. binate or ternate), one (rarely two or three) (vs. 1-3) spiked, male part of linear-cylindrical spikes much longer than the female part (vs. just male part short-cylindrical and slightly longer than female part), style base thickened (vs. not thickened) and perigynium horizontally patent with a short (vs. long and excurved) beak. Phylogenetic analysis, based on the two nuclear DNA regions (ETS 1f and ITS) and three chloroplast DNA regions (matK, ndhF and rps16), suggests that the new species belongs to sect. Siderostictaes.s. of subg. Siderosticta and shows a closer phylogenetic relationship to Carexscaposa C. B. Clarke.

Among relic species, genomic information may provide the key to inferring their long-term survival. Therefore, in this study, we investigated the genome of the Paleogene relic tree species, Bretschneidera sinensis, which is a rare endemic species within southeastern Asia. Specifically, we assembled a high-quality genome for B. sinensis using PacBio high-fidelity and high-throughput chromosome conformation capture reads and annotated it with long and short RNA sequencing reads. Using the genome, we then detected a trade-off between active and passive disease defences among the gene families. Gene families involved in salicylic acid and MAPK signalling pathways expanded as active defence mechanisms against disease, but families involved in terpene synthase activity as passive defences contracted. When inferring the long evolutionary history of B. sinensis, we detected population declines corresponding to historical climate change around the Eocene-Oligocene transition and to climatic fluctuations in the Quaternary. Additionally, based on this genome, we identified 388 single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) that were likely under selection, and showed diverse functions in growth and stress responses. Among them, we further found 41 climate-associated SNPs. The genome of B. sinensis and the SNP dataset will be important resources for understanding extinction/diversification processes using comparative genomics in different lineages.

Callerya dielsiana is a Chinese endemic tropical/subtropical liana. We sequenced the complete chloroplast genome with the Illumina Hiseq X-Ten platform. The genome is obtained with 132,301 bp in length, lacking an inverted repeat (IR) region, contains 4 rRNAs, 30 tRNAs genes, and 76 protein-coding genes. The overall GC content is 33.9%. Based on the whole chloroplast genomes of 14 legume species, a phylogenetic tree is constructed and indicated that C. dielsiana belongs to the well-supported tribe Wisterieae. The tribe is sister to Glycyrrhiza and nested within the IRLC (Inverted Repeat-Lacking Clade) group of the subfamily Papilionoideae (Fabaceae).

Ferns and lycophytes have remarkably large genomes. However, little is known about how their genome size evolved in fern lineages. To explore the origins and evolution of chromosome numbers and genome size in ferns, we used flow cytometry to measure the genomes of 240 species (255 samples) of extant ferns and lycophytes comprising 27 families and 72 genera, of which 228 species (242 samples) represent new reports. We analyzed correlations among genome size, spore size, chromosomal features, phylogeny, and habitat type preference within a phylogenetic framework. We also applied ANOVA and multinomial logistic regression analysis to preference of habitat type and genome size. Using the phylogeny, we conducted ancestral character reconstruction for habitat types and tested whether genome size changes simultaneously with shifts in habitat preference. We found that 2C values had weak phylogenetic signal, whereas the base number of chromosomes (x) had a strong phylogenetic signal. Furthermore, our analyses revealed a positive correlation between genome size and chromosome traits, indicating that the base number of chromosomes (x), chromosome size, and polyploidization may be primary contributors to genome expansion in ferns and lycophytes. Genome sizes in different habitat types varied significantly and were significantly correlated with habitat types; specifically, multinomial logistic regression indicated that species with larger 2C values were more likely to be epiphytes. Terrestrial habitat is inferred to be ancestral for both extant ferns and lycophytes, whereas transitions to other habitat types occurred as the major clades emerged. Shifts in habitat types appear be followed by periods of genomic stability. Based on these results, we inferred that habitat type changes and multiple whole-genome duplications have contributed to the formation of large genomes of ferns and their allies during their evolutionary history.

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the effects of Astragalus polysaccharide (APS) on proliferation of basal-like breast cancer cell line MDA-MB-468 cells and Akt phosphorylation in MDA-MB-468 cells. METHODS: APS at different concentrations was used to culture MDA-MB-468 cells for different time periods, and then proliferation of MDA-MB-468 cells was assayed using methyl thiazolyl tetrazolium (MTT) assay to determine the time- and dose-dependent effects of APS. For observing the effects of APS on phosphor-Akt (p-Akt), in-cell Western blot method was used after 1, 2, 4 and 7 d of culture in APS to detect protein expressions of p-Akt (Thr308) and p-Akt (Ser473). Protein levels of the key targets in p53/murine double minute 2 (MDM2) signaling pathway, such as p53, MDM2 and phosphatase and tensin homolog deleted on chromosome ten (PTEN) were also detected. After PTEN gene was silenced by small interfering RNA (siRNA) in MDA-MB-468 cells, expressions of p-Akt (Thr308 and Ser473) were assayed by the in-cell Western blot method after 2 d of APS treatment. RESULTS: APS at 1 and 0.5 mg/mL concentrations effectively inhibited the proliferation of MDA-MB-468 cells and was used in subsequent tests. Compared with the control group, APS decreased the protein expression of p-Akt (Thr308) in MDA-MB-468 cells after 1-, 2-, 4- and 7-day culture, and also decreased the protein expression of p-Akt (Ser473) and up-regulated the protein expression of MDM2 in MDA-MB-468 cells after 1- and 2-day culture. Expressions of p53 and PTEN were up-regulated after 7 d of APS culture. After silencing PTEN gene by siRNA, APS could not mediate Akt phosphorylation. CONCLUSION: APS can inhibit proliferation of basal-like breast cancer cell line MDA-MB-468, and down-regulate the expression of Akt phosphorylation. The antiproliferation mechanisms may be related to its effects of up-regulating the expressions of p53 and PTEN by regulating p53/MDM2 positive and negative feedback loops.

BACKGROUND: As the main medicinal powder for drawing out pus and removing necrotic tissue in external therapies of traditional Chinese surgery, Sheng Powder has made great contributions to the treatment of inflammatory wounds and has the unique bactericidal and decay-discharging function that can not be replaced by antibiotics. However, Sheng Powder has toxicity because it contains mercury. So far, there is no clinical research on the standards of dose and usage of Sheng Powder and there is a lack of objective and quantitative criteria for operating standards and monitoring of toxicity and side effects. Therefore, the authors choose Jiuyi Powder, one of the most commonly used Sheng Powder, to evaluate the safety of its external use, and form a standardization program for clinical implementation. METHODS AND DESIGN: This study is a nonrandomized, nonblinded, self-controlled case study. There will be two key stages in the study. In stage one, 10 patients with plasma cell mastitis will be enrolled. The patients will receive continuous external application of Jiuyi Powder with a fixed dose (160 mg/d). Blood mercury and urine mercury levels will be dynamically tested at different time intervals, and the observation of pharmacokinetic parameters will be conducted after Jiuyi Powder has been absorbed by the surface of the wound. In stage two, 30 patients with each of the four conditions including postoperative wounds of head or facial surgeries, plasma cell mastitis, anal fistula and chronic absorption ulcer of the shank will be enrolled, respectively. According to the dose of 1.5 mg/cm(2), Jiuyi Powder will be externally applied to the wound surface for 14 d. On the basis of the first-phase study, the test time will be chosen and the toxicity outcome will be detected to evaluate the safety of external application of Jiuyi Powder and to establish recommendations for standardized clinical use. DISCUSSION: The purpose of this study is to evaluate the safety of the external application of Jiuyi Powder through a two-stage study. The pharmacokinetic parameters of external application of Jiuyi Powder at the clinical dose range, the changes in blood and urinary mercury levels and related safety indexes will be observed on different wounds located in different positions externally. The evaluation of whether Jiuyi Powder could be a routine medication for drawing out pus and removing necrotic tissue in inflammatory and refractory wounds will be stated. Chesneya acaulis is a perennial herb, which restricts in Xizang (Tibet) of China, Afghanistan, and Pakistan. The complete chloroplast genome was sequenced using the Illumina Hiseq X-Ten platform. The genome lacks an inverted repeat (IR) region, containing 75 protein-coding genes, 29 tRNAs genes, and 4 rRNAs. The overall GC content is 34.6%. A phylogenetic tree based on the whole chloroplast genomes of 15 species indicated that C. acaulis had a close relationship with the genus Hedysarum, and it nested in the inverted repeat-lacking clade (IRLC), of the subfamily Papilionoideae (Leguminosae).

OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this review was to evaluate the effectiveness of Qigong in improving the quality of life and relieving fatigue, sleep disturbance, and cancer-related emotional disturbances (distress, depression, and anxiety) in women with breast cancer. METHODS: The PubMed, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, Web of Science, Sinomed, Wanfang, VIP, and China National Knowledge Infrastructure databases were searched from their inceptions to March 2020 for controlled clinical trials. Two reviewers selected relevant trials that assessed the benefit of Qigong for breast cancer patients independently. A methodological quality assessment was conducted according to the criteria of the 12 Cochrane Back Review Group for risk of bias independently. A meta-analysis was performed by Review Manager 5.3. RESULTS: This review consisted of 17 trials, in which 1236 cases were enrolled. The quality of the included trials was generally low, as only five of them were rated high quality. The results showed significant effectiveness of Qigong on quality of life (n = 950, standardized mean difference (SMD), 0.65, 95 % confidence interval (CI) 0.23-1.08, P =  0.002). Depression (n = 540, SMD = -0.32, 95 % CI -0.59 to -0.04, P =  0.02) and anxiety (n = 439, SMD = -0.71, 95 % CI -1.32 to -0.10, P =  0.02) were also significantly relieved in the Qigong group. There was no significant benefit on fatigue (n = 401, SMD = -0.32, 95 % CI  0.71 to 0.07, P = 0.11) or sleep disturbance relief compared to that observed in the control group (n = 298, SMD = -0.11, 95 % CI  0.74 to 0.52, P = 0.73). CONCLUSION: This review shows that Qigong is beneficial for improving quality of lifeand relieving depression and anxiety; thus, Qigong should be encouraged in women with breast cancer.

Within the legume family, the taxonomic status of subtribe Glycyrrhizinae of tribe Galegeae and of the genus Adinobotrys has been re-assessed. Based on genome skimming data, we conducted phylogenomic analyses of the inverted repeat-lacking clade within subfamily Papilionoideae. The results support the sister relationship between Glycyrrhizeae and Adinobotrys. Glycyrrhizeae is resurrected based on Glycyrrhiza and Glycyrrhizopsis, and a new tribe, Adinobotryeae, is proposed to accommodate Adinobotrys.

In the title one-dimensional coordination polymer, {[Mn(C(5)O(5))(C(10)H(8)N(2))(H(2)O)].H(2)O}(n), each Mn(II) ion is seven-coordinated by four O atoms from two croconate ligands, two N atoms from a 2,2'-bipyridine (2,2'-bipy) ligand and one O atom from an aqua ligand. The croconate ligand bridges the Mn(II) ions in a bis-bidentate chelation mode, forming an extended [Mn(C(5)O(5))](n) chain running parallel to the [001] direction, with the lipophilic 2,2'-bipy ligands lying along one side and the hydrophilic water molecules along the opposite side. Coordinated water and solvent water molecules are arranged in the hydrophilic layer, which is characterized by O-H...O hydrogen bonds between croconate ligands. Meanwhile, 2,2'-bipy ligands from adjacent chains partially overlap and exhibit pi-pi interactions to form a lipophilic layer. The hydrophilic and lipophilic layers are arranged alternately to build a layer structure.

Alhagi sparsifolia is a sand-resistant subshrub and food resource for camels in the desert and semi-desert areas of Central Asia. In China, this is the olny Alhagi species and it is restricted in the Northwestern region. Its complete chloroplast genome was sequenced using the Illumina Hiseq X-Ten platform. The genome lacks an inverted repeat (IR) region, containing 74 protein-coding genes, 30 tRNAs genes, and four rRNAs. The overall GC content is 43.6%. Based on the chloroplast genome sequence, a maximum-likelihood (ML) tree was constructed along with its 15 taxa, indicating that A. sparsifolia belong to the tribe Hedysareae, which nested in IRLC group of the subfamily Papilionoideae (Fabaceae).

The liquorice genus, Glycyrrhiza L. (Leguminosae), is a medicinal herb with great economic importance and an intriguing intercontinental disjunct distribution in Eurasia, North Africa, the Americas, and Australia. Glycyrrhiza, along with Glycyrrhizopsis Boiss. and Meristotropis Fisch. & C.A.Mey., comprise Glycyrrhiza s.l. Here we reconstructed the phylogenetic relationships and biogeographic history in Glycyrrhiza s.l. using sequence data of whole chloroplast genomes. We found that Glycyrrhiza s.l. is sister to the tribe Wisterieae and is divided into four main clades. Clade I, corresponds to Glycyrrhizopsis and is sister to Glycyrrhiza sensu Meng. Meristotropis is embedded within Glycyrrhiza sensu Meng, and these two genera together form Clades II-IV. Based on biogeographic analyses and divergence time dating, Glycyrrhiza s.l. originated during the late Eocene and its most recent common ancestor (MRCA) was distributed in the interior of Eurasia and the circum-Mediterranean region. A vicariance event, which was possibly a response to the uplifting of the Turkish-Iranian Plateau, may have driven the divergence between Glycyrrhiza sensu Meng and Glycyrrhizopsis in the Middle Miocene. The third and fourth main uplift events of the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau may have led to rapid evolutionary diversification within Glycyrrhiza sensu Meng. Subsequently, the MRCA of Clade II might have migrated to North America (G. lepidota) via the Bering land bridge during the early Pliocene, and reached temperate South America (G. astragalina) by long-distance dispersal (LDD). Within Clade III, the ancestor of G. acanthocarpa arrived at southern Australia through LDD after the late Pliocene, whereas all other species (the SPEY clade) migrated to the interior of Eurasia and the Mediterranean region in the early Pleistocene. The MRCA of Clade IV was restricted in the interior of Eurasia, but its descendants have become widespread in temperate regions of the Old World Northern Hemisphere during the last million years.
