RESUMO

Patients with metastatic colorectal cancer (mCRC) have poor long-term survival. Rechallenge with anti-epidermal growth factor receptor (anti-EGFR) based therapy has shown certain activity as late-line therapy. To further improve clinical outcomes, we evaluated the antitumor efficacy and safety of cetuximab in combination with camrelizumab and liposomal irinotecan in patients with RASwt mCRC pretreated with anti-EGFR-based therapy. Patients with RASwt mCRC who had received at least two prior systemic therapies, including anti-EGFR-based treatment in the metastatic or unresectable disease setting, were enrolled in cohort B. Patients were treated with cetuximab (500 mg/m2 ) and camrelizumab (200 mg) plus liposomal irinotecan (HR070803, 60 mg/m2 ) intravenously once every 2 weeks. The primary endpoint was the objective response rate (ORR) by RECIST v1.1. The secondary endpoints included disease control rate (DCR), progression-free survival (PFS), overall survival (OS) and safety. At the data cutoff (23 November 2022), 19 patients were enrolled in the two stages, and 16 were evaluable for efficacy analyses. The ORR was 25% (95% confidence interval [CI]: 10.2%-49.5%), and DCR was 75% (95% CI: 50.5%-89.8%). The median PFS and OS were 6.9 (95% CI: 2.6-11.2) and 15.1 (95% CI: 6.1-24.0) months, respectively. Grade 3 treatment-related adverse events (TRAEs) occurred in 15.8% (3/19) of patients. No grade ≥4 TRAEs were found in the safety population. Our study suggests that anti-EGFR retreatment therapy with cetuximab plus camrelizumab and liposomal irinotecan (HR070803) is a promising late-line treatment option with good antitumor activity and well-tolerated toxicity in RASwt mCRC patients.

RESUMO

Salvador homologue 1 (SAV1), which is reported to act as a tumor suppressor in different types of cancer, is one of the key components of the Hippo pathway. However, the expression and mechanisms of SAV1 in the development and progression of gastric cancer (GC) remain to be elucidated. Immunohistochemistry (IHC) was performed in the present study to assess the expression levels of SAV1 and lysine-specific demethylase 2B (KDM2B) in GC tissues. The biological effects of SAV1 on GC cell proliferation, migration, and invasion were studied in vitro. KDM2B transcriptionally regulates SAV1 expression in several GC cell lines, and molecular experiments were performed to investigate underlying mechanisms. The expression level of SAV1 was significantly decreased in GC tissues and cell lines, negatively associated with tumor invasion depth, lymph node metastasis, and TNM stage, and positively associated with the overall survival of patients with GC. SAV1 overexpression inhibited the proliferation, migration, and invasion of GC cells. Further mechanistic studies revealed that KDM2B transcriptionally regulated SAV1 expression and further regulated the Hippo signaling pathway. To conclude, the present study demonstrated that KDM2B transcriptionally regulated SAV1 expression and promoted GC progression.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: Many complications but cortical blindness after percutaneous vertebroplasty has been rarely reported. Here, we describe a case who developed cortical blindness after percutaneous vertebroplasty. We also reviewed the literature to find the possible causes of this complication and its treatment. METHODS: Case report and literature review. RESULTS: A 71-year-old woman experienced cortical blindness after percutaneous vertebroplast. She developed dizziness, nausea, sweating, blood pressure changes, and vision loss during the procedure. MRI confirmed bilateral cerebral infarctions. The patient recovered with conservative treatment. CONCLUSIONS: Percutaneous vertebroplasty, though helpful, carries a rare risk of cortical blindness. Surgeon awareness is crucial for informing patients of this potential complication.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVES: The purpose of this study was to investigate and compare the effects of 20 ml/kg and 15 ml/kg red blood cell transfusion (RBCT) on cerebral and intestinal tissue oxygenation, the number of administered transfusions, and neonatal complications in premature infants with anemia. METHODS: This prospective, randomized, partially blinded observational study investigated anemic neonates of gestational age < 32 weeks (Registration ID: ChiCTR 1,900,026,672). The infants were randomly assigned to receive 15 or 20 ml/kg red blood cell transfusion. Cerebral and intestinal tissue oxygen saturation (cer rSO2 and int rSO2) were collected 2 h before transfusion, 2, 4, 6, 12, 24, and 48 h after the beginning of transfusion by Near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS). We also collected vital signs including heart rate (HR), peripheral oxygen saturation (SpO2), and mean arterial blood pressure (MABP) 2 h before infusion, 2 h, and 6 h after the beginning of transfusion. Then we analyzed and compared regional oxygen saturation(rSO2), fractional tissue oxygen extraction (FTOE), and other outcome readouts (blood transfusion numbers, changes in hematocrit and hemoglobin, hospitalization days, HR, SpO2, MABP, and complications) between the two groups. The intraindividual comparisons of the above readouts before transfusion and those after transfusion were also evaluated within each group. RESULT: 73 newborns received 20 ml/kg (large volume group) and 78 newborns received 15 ml/kg transfusion (small volume group). There was no significant difference in cer rSO2, int rSO2, Cerebral fractional tissue oxygen extraction (cFTOE), and intestinal fractional tissue oxygen extraction (iFTOE) between the two groups. rSO2, MABP, and SpO2 increased; HR, cFTOE, and iFTOE decreased following transfusion in both groups. The transfusion number of the large volume group is significantly less than that of the small volume group (1.9 ± 0.3 vs. 2.6 ± 0.9, p < 0.01) and hospitalization days were also less than those in the low volume group (44.3 ± 8.2 vs. 47.6 ± 9.8, p < 0.05). The increases in hematocrit and hemoglobin were higher in the large volume group than those in small volume (hematocrit increment (%),10.7 ± 4.2 vs. 10.1 ± 5.9, p = 0.015; Hb concentration after blood transfusion (g/L) 132.3 ± 11.1 vs. 127.4 ± 15.4, p = 0.028). CONCLUSION: After the transfusion, cer rSO2 and int rSO2 increased significantly, FTOE decreased and vital signs improved in both the 15 ml/kg and 20 ml/kg groups, and these changes were not significantly different between the two groups. However, the larger group showed a more pronounced increase in hematocrit and hemoglobin, a reduction in the total number of transfusions, and a shorter duration of hospitalization after transfusion in preterm infants without increasing complications.

RESUMO

Crops grown in areas contaminated by industrial and agricultural fluorine (F) have gained increasing attention, however F levels in different vegetables and lettuce cultivars are rarely reported. In situ-field experiment was designed to investigate the concentration, translocation, and health risks of F in 20 vegetable species and 25 lettuce cultivars. After the growth of 150 d for vegetables and 60 d for lettuce, F concentration (12.83-138.07 mg kg-1), translocation factor (0.16-6.32), and bio-concentration factor (1.90-13.73) varied significantly between vegetable species and lettuce cultivars. According to the hazard quotient values (based on the reference dose of F), all the vegetable species appears to pose no risk to human health, while 60% of the lettuce cultivars present potential health risks to children. Therefore, the limit value of F in vegetables for adults and children should be enacted in the future. Moreover, cabbage, green radish, spinach, leaf mustard, and Frisee lettuce (Huayu) were considered as a safe dietary product. These findings contributed to the safe cultivation of vegetables and the control of fluorosis in the areas contaminated by industrial and agricultural activities.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: PIK3CA mutation and PTEN suppression lead to tumorigenesis and drug resistance in colorectal cancer (CRC). There is no research on the role of circular RNAs (circRNAs) in regulating PIK3CA mutation and MEK inhibitor resistance in CRC. METHODS: The expression of circLHFPL2 in PIK3CA-mutant and wild-type cells and tissues was quantified by RNA-sequencing and qRT-PCR. CCK-8 assay and colony formation assay were used to evaluate cell viability. Annexin V/PI staining was implemented to assess cell apoptosis. Luciferase assay, biotin-coupled microRNA capture, and RIP assay were used to validate the interaction among potential targets. Western blotting and qRT-PCR assays were used to evaluate the expression of involved targets. Xenograft tumor in a nude mouse model was used to explore the role of circRNAs in vivo. RESULTS: RNA sequencing defined downregulated expression of circLHFPL2 in both PIK3CAH1047R (HCT116) and PIK3CAE545K (DLD1) cells. CircLHFPL2 was also downregulated in PIK3CA-mutant CRC primary cells and tissues, which was correlated with poor prognosis. CircLHFPL2 was mainly localized in the cytoplasm and its downregulation was attributed to the PI3K/AKT signaling pathway activated by phosphorylating Foxo3a. CircLHFPL2 inhibited PI3KCA-Mut CRC progression both in vitro and in vivo. Furthermore, our work indicated that circLHFPL2 acts as a ceRNA to sponge miR-556-5p and miR-1322 in CRC cells and in turn modulate the expression of PTEN. Importantly, circLHFPL2 was able to overcome PIK3CA-mediated MEK inhibitor resistance in CRC cells. CONCLUSIONS: Downregulation of circLHFPL2 sustains the activation of the PI3K/AKT signaling pathway via a positive feedback loop in PIK3CA-mutant CRC. In addition, downregulation of circLHFPL2 leads to MEK inhibitor resistance in CRC. Therefore, targeting circLHFPL2 could be an effective approach for the treatment of CRC patients harboring oncogenic PIK3CA mutations.

RESUMO

Two aerobic and obligately acidophilic bacteria, designated 4G-K13T and 4Y35T, were isolated from the forest soil sampled at Dinghushan Biosphere Reserve, Guangdong Province, PR China. These two strains were Gram-stain-negative, non-motile and short rods that multiplied by binary division. Strains 4G-K13T and 4Y35T had the highest 16S rRNA gene sequence similarity of 97.0 and 97.2 % to Silvibacterium bohemicum DSM 103733T and Acidisarcina polymorpha SBC82T, respectively. Phylogenetic trees based on the 16S rRNA gene and whole genome sequences showed consistently that these two strains formed a major clade with members of the genera Acidipila, Acidisarcina, Silvibacterium and Acidobacterium in the family Acidobacteriaceae, but each occupied an unique position. In both the UBCG and the PhyloPhlAn phylogenomic trees, strains 4G-K13T and 4Y35T congruently formed a highly supported subclade with Acidobacterium capsulatum DSM 11244T and Acidobacterium ailaaui DSM 27394T, respectively. The major fatty acids (>5 %) of strain 4G-K13T were iso-C15 : 0, iso-C17 : 0, summed feature 3 (C16 : 1 ω7c and/or C16 : 1 ω6c) and summed feature 9 (iso-C17 : 1 ω9c and/or C16 : 0 10-methyl), while that of strain 4Y35T were C16 : 0, C18 : 1 ω9c, iso-C15 : 0, summed feature 3 (C16 : 1 ω7c and/or C16 : 1 ω6c) and summed feature 9 (iso-C17 : 1 ω9c and/or C16 : 0 10-methyl). Strain 4G-K13T contained phosphatidylethanolamine, four unidentified phospholipids, four glycolipids, two unidentified aminolipids and two unknown lipids, while strain 4Y35T had phosphatidylethanolamine, three unidentified phospholipids, two glycolipids, five unidentified aminolipids and one unknown polar lipid. The DNA G+C contents of 4G-K13T and 4Y35T were 60.5 and 55.8 mol%, respectively. Based on all these phylogenetic, physiological and chemotaxonomic data, we suggest that strains 4G-K13T and 4Y35T represent two novel species of two novel genera in the family Acidobacteriaceae, for which the names Paracidobacterium acidisoli gen. nov., sp. nov. (type strain: 4G-K13T=GDMCC 1.1195T=NBRC 113249T) and Alloacidobacterium dinghuense gen. nov., sp. nov. (type strain: 4Y35T=KACC 21728T=NBRC 114261T) are proposed. We also propose to reclassify Acidobacterium ailaaui and Acidipila dinghuensis as Pseudacidobacterium ailaaui gen. nov., comb. nov. and Silvibacterium dinghuense comb. nov., respectively, based mainly on the results of phylogenomic analysis.

RESUMO

AIMS: The various diagnostic criteria for polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) raised problem for PCOS research worldwide. PCOS has been demonstrated to be significantly associated with immune response. We aimed to identify several immune-related biomarkers and construct a nomogram model for diagnosis in PCOS. METHODS: The mRNA expression data were downloaded from Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) database. Significant immune-related genes were identified to be the biomarkers for the diagnosis of PCOS using random forest model (RF), support vector machine model (SVM) and generalized linear model (GLM). The key biomarkers were selected from the optimal model and were utilized to construct a diagnostic nomogram. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves was used to evaluate diagnostic ability of nomogram. Moreover, the relative proportion of 22 immune cell types was calculated by CIBERSORT algorithm. RESULTS: Four immune-related biomarkers (cAMP, S100A9, TLR8 and IL6R) were demonstrated to be highly expressed in PCOS. The nomogram constructed on the ground of the four key biomarkers showed perfect performance in diagnosis of PCOS, whose AUC were greater than 0.7. Higher infiltrating abundance of neutrophils, resting NK cells and activated dendritic cells were observed in PCOS and were tightly associated with the four key biomarkers. CONCLUSIONS: This study identified several immune-related diagnostic biomarkers for PCOS patients. The diagnostic nomogram constructed based the biomarkers provide a theory foundation for clinical application. Multiple immune cells were associated with the expression of these four biomarkers and might played a vital role in the procession of PCOS.

RESUMO

FTO, a demethylase for N6-methyladenosine (m6A) modification, has been implicated in multiple tumors. However, its roles in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) remain uncovered. This study aims to evaluate the clinical relevance and functional roles in this disease. Through immunohistochemistry, qRT-PCR and Western blot analyses, we found FTO expression in ESCC tissues was stronger than that in adjacent normal tissues, and the survival curves displayed high FTO expression had a trend toward poor prognosis. Functionally, silencing of FTO inhibited ESCC cell growth and migration in CCK8, EdU, colony formation and transwell assays and FTO overexpression showed the opposite results. Furthermore, FTO was also required for the tumorigenicity of ESCC cells in nude mice. The data from RNA-seq analysis revealed that MMP13 expression was significantly affected by FTO knockdown. qRT-PCR and Western blot assays confirmed that MMP13 was positively regulated by FTO in both mRNA and protein levels. Additionally, the functional link between FTO and MMP13 was explored by CCK8 and transwell chamber approaches. These findings suggest that FTO is up-regulated and plays oncogenic roles in ESCC. MMP13 may function as a downstream target of FTO.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: The prognostic nutritional index (PNI) has been reported to play an important prognostic role in various malignancies. Here we performed a meta-analysis to explore the predictive value of PNI in pancreatic cancer (PC). METHODS: Clinical studies about PNI and prognosis in PC were retrieved from Pubmed, Embase, Web of Science and Cochrane Libarary updated on 31 December 2017. Stata 12 was used to compute pooled hazard radio (HR) and 95% confidence interval (CI) to estimate the relationship between PNI and overall survival (OS). RESULTS: Ten studies with 2064 patients were eligible for final analysis. The pooled HR (1.48, 95%CI: 1.32-1.66, I 2 = 25.5% P = 0.201)revealed that low PNI was related to poor prognosis in patients with PC. The significant relationship between PNI and prognosis was not affected by subgroup analysis based on tumor stage, treatment method, sample size, cutoff value, HR data source and study quality. CONCLUSION: Our meta-analysis suggests PNI maybe a potential prognostic indicator for patients with PC.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To observe the efficacy of umbilical cord mesenchymal stem cells (UC-MSCs) transplantation for the patients with refractory systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). METHODS: Thirty seven patients with SLE were enrolled in this study, and divided into conventional treatment group (control group, n = 20) and UC-MSCS adjuvant treatment group (treatment group, n= 17). All the patients in both two groups were treated with glucocorticoids and cyclophosphamide (CTX). In the UC-MSCs group, each patient additionally received the transplantation of 3 x 10(7) UC-MSCs infusion intravenously. The clinical manifestations and laboratory parameters of each patient were observed before the treatments and 2 weeks, 1 month, 2 months, 3 months, months,9 months and 12 months after the treatments. RESULTS: All the 37 patients were observed for 12 months. 24 h urinary protein excretion (U-Pro), anti nuclear antibody (ANA), erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR), high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP), systemic lupus erythematosus disease activity index (SLEDAI) of these two groups decreased significantly (P < 0.05). serum albumin (ALB), C3, and C4 of two groups were higher after the treatments (P < 0.05). ALB and C3 in treatment group exceeded the control group (P < 0.05). The positive rates of Anti-dsDNA in control and treatment group were 40% and 10% respectively, while the recurrence rates were 50% and 20% respectively, these difference between the two groups were statistically significant (P < 0.05). There were no transplantation related complications observed. CONCLUSION: UC-MSCs transplantation could be effective and safe for refractory SLE on basis of glucocorticoid and cyclophosphamide therapy.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: The presence of cancer cachexia is a significant adverse prognostic indicator in patients with malignant tumors. Cancer cachexia is a multifactorial syndrome characterized by a constant loss of skeletal muscles with or without a loss of weight, leading to immune dysfunction. We performed a retrospective study to investigate the influence of cachexia on the immunotherapy efficacy and prognosis for malignant tumors of the digestive system. METHODS: The present study adopts a cross-sectional design. The prognosis data of patients with advanced cancer of the digestive system who received immunotherapy from September 2021 to December 2022 were analyzed. Cachexia was calculated using the change of the area of the psoas major muscle (PMMA) or the weight. We measured the change at the beginning of immunotherapy and at least 2 cycles afterward. The participants were categorized into the cachexia group and control group based on the evaluation criteria. Kaplan-Meier and Log-rank methods were used for survival analysis. Cox proportional hazard model as a method to assess the contribution of different clinical factors to overall survival (OS) and progression-free survival (PFS). RESULTS: A total number of 98 patients, including esophageal carcinoma (4, 4%), gastric (36, 37%), colorectal (51, 52%), and other cancer types (7, 7%), were enrolled. Fifty-four patients were diagnosed with non-cancer cachexia, and the cancer cachexia group included 44 patients. The median PFS in the cachexia group was shorter than that in the control group (130 days vs. 212 days). Their difference was not significant (p = .321). The survival rate of the patients without cachexia was longer than of those with cachexia (p = .027). The level of albumin and the number of metastatic organs were related to PFS (p = .020, p = .029). The albumin level was significantly associated with the OS of patients (p = .003). CONCLUSIONS: The presence of cachexia was significantly associated with poor OS in patients with malignant tumors of the digestive system who received immunotherapy, not with PFS or the response to immunotherapy.

RESUMO

Biochar (BC) has been proven effective in promoting the production of safety food in cadmium (Cd)-polluted soil and the impact can be further enhanced through interaction with compost (CM). However, there existed unclear impacts of biochar with varying particle sizes in conjunction with compost on microbiome composition, rhizosphere functions, and soil health. Hence, in this study, two bulk-biochar derived from wood chips and pig manure were fabricated into nano-biochar using a ball-milling method. Subsequently, in a field experiment, the root-associated bacterial community and microbial functions of lettuce were evaluated in respond to Cd-contaminated soil remediated with nano/bulk-BCCM. The results showed that compared to bulk-BCCM, nano-BCCM significantly reduced the Cd concentration in the edible part of lettuce and the available Cd in the soil. Both nano-BCCM and bulk-BCCM strongly influenced the composition of bacterial communities in the four root-associated niches, and enhanced rhizosphere functions involved in nitrogen, phosphorus, and carbon cycling, as well as the relative abundance and biodiversity of keystone modules in rhizosphere soil. Furthermore, soil quality index analysis indicated that nano-BCCM exhibited greater potential than bulk-BCCM in maintaining soil health. The data revealed that nano-BCCM could regulate the Cd concentration in lettuce shoot by promoting microbial biodiversity of keystone modules in soil-root continuum and rhizosphere bacterial functions. These findings suggest that nano-biochar compost associations can be a superior strategy for enhancing microbial functions, maintaining soil health, and ensuring crop production safety in the Cd-contaminated soil compared to the mix of bulk-biochar and compost.

RESUMO

Plant growth regulators (PGR) and plant growth-promoting bacteria (PGPB) have the potential in phytoremediation of heavy metals (HMs) contaminated soils. However, their sole application may not yield the optimal results, thus necessitating the combined application. The present study aimed to enhance the phytoremediation efficiency of Sedum alfredii Hance (S. alfredii) in acidic and alkaline soils through the combination of PGR (Brassinolide, BR) and PGPB (Pseudomonas fluorescens, P. fluorescens). The combination of BR and P. fluorescens (BRB treatment) effectively increased the removal efficiency of S. alfredii for Cd, Pb, and Zn by 355.2 and 155.3 %, 470.1 and 128.9 %, and 408.4 and 209.6 %, in acidic and alkaline soils, respectively. Moreover, BRB treatment led to a substantial increase in photosynthetic pigments contents and antioxidant enzymes activities, resulting in a remarkable increase in biomass (86.71 and 47.22 %) and dry mass (101.49 and 42.29 %) of plants grown in acidic and alkaline soils, respectively. Similarly, BRB treatment significantly elevated the Cd (109.4 and 71.36 %), Pb (174.9 and 48.03 %), and Zn levels (142.8 and 104.3 %) in S. alfredii shoots, along with cumulative accumulation of Cd (122.7 and 79.47 %), Pb (183.8 and 60.49 %), and Zn (150.7 and 117.9 %), respectively. In addition, the BRB treatment lowered the soil pH and DTPA-HMs contents, while augmenting soil enzymatic activities, thereby contributing soil microecology and facilitating the HMs absorption and translocation by S. alfredii to over-ground tissues. Furthermore, the evaluation of microbial community structure in phyllosphere and rhizosphere after remediation revealed the shift in microbial abundance. The combined treatment altered the principal effects on S. alfredii HMs accumulation from bacterial diversity to the soil HMs availability. In summary, our findings demonstrated that synergistic application of BR and P. fluorescens represents a viable approach to strengthen the phytoextraction efficacy of S. alfredii in varying soils.

RESUMO

Foliar application of zinc (Zn) or silicon nanoparticles (Si-NPs) may exert regulatory effects on cadmium (Cd) accumulation in rice grains, however, their impact on Cd bioavailability during human rice consumption remains elusive. This study comprehensively investigated the application of Zn with or without Si-NPs in reducing Cd accumulation in rice grains as well to exactly evaluate the potential risk of Cd exposure resulting from the rice consumption by employing field experiment as well laboratory bioaccessibility and bioavailability assay. Sole Zn (ZnSO4) or in combination with Si (ZnSO4 +Si and ZnO+Si) efficiently lowered the Cd concentration in rice grains. However, the impact of bioaccessible (0.1215-0.1623 mg kg-1) and bioavailable Cd (0.0245-0.0393 mg kg-1) during simulated human rice consumption depicted inconsistent trend. The straw HCl-extractable fraction of Cd (FHCl-Cd) exhibited a significant correlation with total, bioaccessible, and bioavailable Cd in grains, indicating the critical role of FHCl-Cd in Cd accumulation and translocation from grains to human. Additionally, foliar spraying of Zn+Si raised the nutritional value of rice grains, leading to increased protein content and reduced phytic acid concentration. Overall, this study demonstrates the potential of foliar application of ZnSO4 +Si in mitigating the Cd levels in rice grains and associated health risks upon consumption.

RESUMO

The phytoremediation efficiency of plants in removing the heavy metals (HMs) might be influenced by their growth status and accumulation capacity of plants. Herein, we conducted a lab-scale experiment and a field try out to assess the optimal plant growth regulators (PGRs) including indole-3-acetic acid (IAA)/brassinolide (BR)/abscisic acid (ABA) in improving the phytoextraction potential of Sedum alfredii Hance (S. alfredii). The results of pot experiment revealed that application of IAA at 0.2 mg/L, BR at 0.4 mg/L, and ABA at 0.2 mg/L demonstrated notable potential as optimal dosage for Cd/Pb/Zn phytoextraction in S. alfredii. The findings of subcellular level of Cd/Pb/Zn in leaves showed that IAA (0.2 mg/L), BR (0.4 mg/L) or ABA (0.2 mg/L) promoted the HMs storage in the soluble and cell wall fraction, therefore contributing HMs subcellular compartmentation. In addition, application of PGRs notably enhanced the antioxidant system (SOD, CAT, POD, APX activities) while reducing lipid peroxidation (MDA content) in S. alfredii, consequently improving HMs tolerance and growth of S. alfredii. Moreover, the results of field trial showed that application of BR, IAA, or ABA+BR substantially improved the growth of S. alfredii by inducing plants biomass and augmenting the levels of photosynthetic pigment contents. Notably, ABA+BR noticed the highest theoretical biomass by 42.9 %, followed by IAA (41.6 %), and BR (36.4 %), as compared with CK. Additionally, ABA+BR treatment showed effectiveness in removing the Cd by 103.4 %, while BR and IAA led to a significant increase of Pb and Zn removal by 239 % and 116 %, respectively, when compared with CK. Overall, the results of this study highlights that the foliar application of IAA, BR, or ABA+BR can serve as viable strategy to boosting phytoremediation efficiency of S. alfredii in contaminated soil by improving the biomass and metal accumulation in harvestable parts.

RESUMO

With the intensification of human activities, the amount of phosphorus (P)-containing waste has increased. When such waste is not recycled, P is released into the environment, leading to environmental issues such as the eutrophication of water bodies. In this study, based on the material flow analysis method, a P Waste Flow analysis model (P-WFA) was developed to analyze the P flow in the waste system of Poyang Lake, the largest freshwater lake in China. To address the research gap in long-term P flow analysis at the watershed scale, this study quantified the P content in the waste system of the Poyang Lake Watershed from 1950 to 2020. The analysis revealed that from 1950 to 2020, the total P input into the waste system increased from 5.49 × 104 tons in 1950 to 2.28 × 105 tons in 2020. The breeding industry system was identified as the primary source, accounting for 25.19-41.59 % of the total waste system. Over the past 70 years, P loss to surface water from waste systems has been primarily facilitated by manure from the breeding industry, as well as drainage from crop farming systems (77.74 % in 2020). At the same time, the P recycling rate (PRR) of the waste system exhibited an initial increase followed by a decrease, increasing from 44.14 % to 47.75 % before dropping to 44.41 %. Population growth, urbanization, and changes in consumption levels in Jiangxi Province have led to changes in the dietary structure and fertilizer use, consequently affecting the P cycling pattern. This study presents a comprehensive P flow model for waste systems in the Poyang Lake Watershed. This model can be used as a reference to enhance P cycling and manage P loss in other large freshwater lakes.

RESUMO

INTRODUCTION: This article provides a new method to avoid recurrent ectopic pregnancy during IVF-ET treatment in women who underwent bilateral salpingectomy. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A Chinese woman who underwent bilateral salpingectomy because of previous ectopic pregnancy sought IVF-ET therapy. She got two continuous salpingocyesis in fresh cycle and frozen cycle and received conservative therapy. We suggested her to undergo the laparoscopy to find the reason of repeated ectopic pregnancy. The patient declined due to economy and fear of operation. HSG showed that the length of the left and right salpinx was 3 and 4 cm, respectively. She received microcoil device under the X-ray guidance to induce proximal occlusion of the salpinx. Another FET was performed 3 months after this intervention and she succeeded this time and delivered a healthy infant finally. CONCLUSION: The proximal occlusion of the salpinx by microcoil device can be used to avoid ectopic pregnancy again during IVF-ET treatment in women who underwent bilateral salpingectomy.

RESUMO

Polygonal meshes are ubiquitous, but have only played a relatively minor role in the deep learning revolution. State-of-the-art neural generative models for 3D shapes learn implicit functions and generate meshes via expensive iso-surfacing. We overcome these challenges by employing a classical spatial data structure from computer graphics, Binary Space Partitioning (BSP), to facilitate 3D learning. The core operation of BSP involves recursive subdivision of 3D space to obtain convex sets. By exploiting this property, we devise BSP-Net, a network that learns to represent a 3D shape via convex decomposition without supervision. The network is trained to reconstruct a shape using a set of convexes obtained from a BSP-tree built over a set of planes, where the planes and convexes are both defined by learned network weights. BSP-Net directly outputs polygonal meshes from the inferred convexes. The generated meshes are watertight, compact (i.e., low-poly), and well suited to represent sharp geometry. We show that the reconstruction quality by BSP-Net is competitive with those from state-of-the-art methods while using much fewer primitives. We also explore variations to BSP-Net including using a more generic decoder for reconstruction, more general primitives than planes, as well as training a generative model with variational auto-encoders.

RESUMO

The main purpose of applying organic or inorganic amendments is to guarantee crop safe production in heavy metal contaminated soil. However, previous studies showed that the effects of organic or inorganic composite amendments on the cadmium (Cd) concentration of lettuce (Lactuca sativa var. ramosa Hort) were inconsistent. Accordingly, a sixty-day pot experiment was carried out to examine the impacts of the inorganic materials (lime, L and zeolite, Z), organic materials (biochar, B and compost, C), and their combination on the immobilization of Cd in soil and its uptake by lettuce. The objective was to identify the most suitable soil amendment combination that promotes safe lettuce production. The results revealed that the combined application of BC, LZC, and LBC significantly increased the plant height by 11.09-28.04% and fresh weight by 183.47-207.67%. This improvement can be attributed to enhanced soil quality, such as increased dissolved organic carbon (DOC) by 70.19-80.42%, soil respiration (SR) by 29.04-38.46%, and soil microbial carbon content (SMC) by 36.94-46.63%. Compared to inorganic fertilizers and their combination with organic amendments, organic amendments had a significant impact on reducing shoot Cd concentration by 33.93%-56.55%, while increasing the activity of catalase by 138.87-186.86%. And soil available Cd measured by diffusive gradients in thin-films (DGT-Cd) decreased 24.73-88.13% in all treatments. Correlation analysis showed that plant Cd concentration was significantly correlated with soil pH, SR, cation exchange capacity (CEC), DOC and SMC. These results demonstrated that organic amendments, especially the combination of biochar and compost, have greater potential than inorganic amendments and inorganic-organic combinations for realizing safe production of lettuce and improving soil quality in the Cd moderately contaminated acid farmland.
