Effector CD8+ T cells are important mediators of adaptive immunity, and receptor-ligand interactions that regulate their survival may have therapeutic potential. Here, we identified a subset of effector CD8+ T cells that expressed the inhibitory fragment crystallizable (Fc) receptor FcγRIIB following activation and multiple rounds of division. CD8+ T cell-intrinsic genetic deletion of Fcgr2b increased CD8+ effector T cell accumulation, resulting in accelerated graft rejection and decreased tumor volume in mouse models. Immunoglobulin G (IgG) antibody was not required for FcγRIIB-mediated control of CD8+ T cell immunity, and instead, the immunosuppressive cytokine fibrinogen-like 2 (Fgl2) was a functional ligand for FcγRIIB on CD8+ T cells. Fgl2 induced caspase-3/7-mediated apoptosis in Fcgr2b+, but not Fcgr2b-/-, CD8+ T cells. Increased expression of FcγRIIB correlated with freedom from rejection following withdrawal from immunosuppression in a clinical trial of kidney transplant recipients. Together, these findings demonstrate a cell-intrinsic coinhibitory function of FcγRIIB in regulating CD8+ T cell immunity.

In Brazil, Leishmania braziliensis is the main causative agent of the neglected tropical disease, cutaneous leishmaniasis (CL). CL presents on a spectrum of disease severity with a high rate of treatment failure. Yet the parasite factors that contribute to disease presentation and treatment outcome are not well understood, in part because successfully isolating and culturing parasites from patient lesions remains a major technical challenge. Here we describe the development of selective whole genome amplification (SWGA) for Leishmania and show that this method enables culture-independent analysis of parasite genomes obtained directly from primary patient skin samples, allowing us to circumvent artifacts associated with adaptation to culture. We show that SWGA can be applied to multiple Leishmania species residing in different host species, suggesting that this method is broadly useful in both experimental infection models and clinical studies. SWGA carried out directly on skin biopsies collected from patients in Corte de Pedra, Bahia, Brazil, showed extensive genomic diversity. Finally, as a proof-of-concept, we demonstrated that SWGA data can be integrated with published whole genome data from cultured parasite isolates to identify variants unique to specific geographic regions in Brazil where treatment failure rates are known to be high. SWGA provides a relatively simple method to generate Leishmania genomes directly from patient samples, unlocking the potential to link parasite genetics with host clinical phenotypes.

BACKGROUND: The National Accreditation Program for Breast Cancer (NAPBC) standards were recently revised to promote breast cancer (BC) risk assessment and subsequent referral for high-risk services. This project sought to estimate the proportion of patients at high risk for BC in the authors' safety-net hospital system, gauge patient interest in high-risk services, and define resources for program development. METHODS: Women presenting for breast imaging during 2 weeks in 2023 were surveyed. Thirty-five patients with a history or diagnosis of BC were excluded. The Tyrer-Cuzick (TC) model version 8 was used to calculate BC risk. High/intermediate risk was defined as a 10-year risk of 5% or more, a lifetime risk of 15% or more, or both. The criteria for genetic counseling and testing referral were based on National Comprehensive Cancer Network guidelines. RESULTS: A total of 257 patients had a TC risk assessment showing 14.8% (n = 38) with a 10-year BC risk of 5% or more (consideration of endocrine therapy), 6.2% (n = 16) with a lifetime BC risk of 20% or more (qualifying for annual screening MRI), and 10.5% (n = 27) with a lifetime BC risk of 15% or more (consideration of high-risk screening). The criteria for genetic counseling/testing were met by 61 (23.7%) of the 257 patients. Overall, 31.5% (n = 81) qualified for high/intermediate-risk screening, risk reduction, and/or genetic assessment/testing, 92.8% of whom were interested in referrals for additional information and care. CONCLUSIONS: In the authors' community, almost one third of patients undergoing breast imaging qualify for BC high-risk assessment and services. The majority of the patients expressed interest in pursuing such services. These data will be used in financial planning and resource allocation to develop a high-risk program at the authors' institution in line with NAPBC guidelines. They are hopeful that these efforts will improve oncologic outcomes and survival from BC in their community.

PURPOSE OF REVIEW: This review offers an overview of the most important recent articles on pediatric APS. RECENT FINDINGS: Non-thrombotic extra criteria manifestations were prevalent in pediatric APS. Pregnancy morbidity has been described as the first manifestation of APS at youth age, impairing gestational outcomes. The 2023 APS criteria were developed for adult APS patients, and there is still a lack of pediatric-specific APS criteria. Catastrophic APS was more commonly reported as the initial manifestation of pediatric APS than in adults. Regarding treatment, direct oral anticoagulants have been recently approval for pediatric patients with venous thrombosis. New approaches have been proposed for severe cases, for arterial thrombosis, and rituximab for refractory cases. Recurrences typically occurred early and were associated with older age at diagnosis. Current studies highlighted the multifaceted nature of pediatric APS. Further large prospective multicenter studies evaluating new medications capable of reducing recurrence risk and improving prognosis in this population will be required.

SUMMARY: As the amount of 3D chromosomal interaction data continues to increase, storing and accessing such data efficiently becomes paramount. We introduce Pairs, a block-compressed text file format for storing paired genomic coordinates from Hi-C data, and Pairix, an open-source C application to index and query Pairs files. Pairix (also available in Python and R) extends the functionalities of Tabix to paired coordinates data. We have also developed PairsQC, a collapsible HTML quality control report generator for Pairs files. OBJECTIVES: Seasonal influenza vaccines protect against 3 (trivalent influenza vaccine [IIV3]) or 4 (quadrivalent influenza vaccine [IIV4]) viruses. IIV4 costs more than IIV3, and there is a trade-off between incremental cost and protection. This is especially the case in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) with limited budgets; previous reviews have not identified studies of IIV4-IIV3 comparisons in LMICs. We summarized the literature that compared health and economic outcomes of IIV4 and IIV3, focused on LMICs. METHODS: We systematically searched 5 databases for articles published before October 6, 2021, that modeled health or economic effects of IIV4 versus IIV3. We abstracted data and compared findings among countries and models. RESULTS: Thirty-eight studies fit our selection criteria; 10 included LMICs. Most studies (N = 31) reported that IIV4 was cost-saving or cost-effective compared with IIV3; we observed no difference in health or economic outcomes between LMICs and other countries. Based on cost differences of influenza vaccines, only one study compared coverage of IIV3 with IIV4 and reported that the maximum IIV4 price that would still yield greater public health impact than IIV3 was 13% to 22% higher than IIV3. CONCLUSIONS: When vaccination coverage with IIV4 and IIV3 is the same, IIV4 tends to be not only more effective but more cost-effective than IIV3, even with relatively high price differences between vaccine types. Alternatively, where funding is limited as in most LMICs, higher vaccine coverage can be achieved with IIV3 than IIV4, which could result in more favorable health and economic outcomes.

INTRODUCTION: There is some evidence that social media interventions can promote smoking cessation. This randomized controlled pilot study is the first to evaluate the feasibility and potential efficacy of a Facebook smoking cessation intervention among Alaska Native (AN) adults. AIMS AND METHODS: Recruitment and data collection occurred from December 2019 to March 2021. Participants were recruited statewide in Alaska using Facebook advertisements with a targeted sample of 60 enrolled. Participants were stratified by gender, age, and rural or urban residence and randomly assigned to receive referral resources on evidence-based cessation treatments (EBCTs) (control, n = 30) or these resources plus a 3-month, closed (private), culturally tailored, Facebook group (intervention, n = 31) that connected participants to EBCT resources and was moderated by two Alaska Native Trained Tobacco Specialists. Assessments were conducted online post-randomization at 1, 3, and 6 months. Outcomes were feasibility (recruitment, retention, and intervention engagement), self-reported use of EBCTs, and biochemically confirmed seven-day point-prevalence smoking abstinence. RESULTS: Of intervention participants, 90% engaged (eg posted, commented) more than once. Study retention was 57% at 6 months (no group differences). The proportion utilizing EBCTs was about double for intervention compared with the control group participants at 3 and 6 months. Smoking abstinence was higher for intervention than control participants at 3 months (6.5% vs. 0%, p = .16) but comparable at 6 months (6.4% vs. 6.7%, p = .97). CONCLUSIONS: While additional research is needed to promote long-term cessation, this pilot trial supports recruitment feasibility during the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, consumer uptake, and a signal for intervention efficacy on the uptake of cessation treatment and short-term smoking abstinence. IMPLICATIONS: This study is the first evaluation of a social media intervention for smoking cessation among Indigenous people. We learned that statewide Facebook recruitment of AN adults who smoke was feasible and there was a signal for the efficacy of a Facebook intervention on the uptake of EBCT and short-term (3 months) biochemically verified smoking abstinence. Clinically, social media platforms may complement current care models by connecting AN individuals and others living in hard-to-reach communities to cessation treatment resources.

In this study a temporal analysis (2008-2017) was conducted to examine the occurrence of droughts and the spatial distribution of livestock herds in the Brazilian semi-arid region. Maps of vegetation cover, classes of normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI) and normalized difference drought index (NDDI) were used. Image processing took place on the Google Earth Engine platform along with QGIS Software (2.18). Two historical series were created to compare the variation between two herds and the dry monitoring, one called the 1st series (2008-2012) and 2nd series (2013-2017) which were compared using a paired t-test. The comparative analysis showed that the classes of extreme drought and exceptional drought covered the greatest land areas in the 2nd series, while abnormal drought covered the greatest land area in the 1st series. The analysis of herds, a reduction in the cattle herd and an increase in goat and sheep herds were noted. This study considers the efficacy of NDDI and NDVI indices to monitor the distribution of droughts in the Brazilian semi-arid region. The geoprocess of Sidra data enabled an analysis of the spatial distribution and temporal variation of the herds in the semi-arid region and how drought may have impacted livestock dynamics.

Chromatin modifications function as critical regulators of gene expression and cellular identity, especially in the regulation and maintenance of the pluripotent state. However, many studies of chromatin modification in stem cells-and pluripotent stem cells in particular-are performed in mammalian stem cell culture, an in vitro condition mimicking a very transient state during mammalian development. Thus, new models for studying pluripotent stem cells in vivo could be helpful for understanding the roles of chromatin modification, for confirming prior in vitro studies, and for exploring evolution of the pluripotent state. The freshwater flatworm, Schmidtea mediterranea, is an excellent model for studying adult pluripotent stem cells, particularly in the context of robust, whole-body regeneration. To identify chromatin modifying and remodeling enzymes critical for planarian regeneration and stem cell maintenance, we took a candidate approach and screened planarian homologs of 25 genes known to regulate chromatin biology in other organisms. Through our study, we identified six genes with novel functions in planarian homeostasis, regeneration, and behavior. Of the list of genes characterized, we identified five planarian homologs of the mammalian CREB-Binding Protein (CBP) and p300 family of histone acetyltransferases, representing an expansion of this family in planarians. We find that two planarian CBP family members are required for planarian survival, with knockdown of Smed-CBP2 and Smed-CBP3 causing distinct defects in stem cell maintenance or function. Loss of CBP2 causes a quick, dramatic loss of stem cells, while knockdown of CBP3 affects stem cells more narrowly, influencing differentiation of several cell types that include neuronal subtypes and cells of the eye. Further, we find that Smed-CBP1 is required for planarian fissioning behavior. We propose that the division of labor among a diversified CBP family in planarians presents an opportunity to dissect specific functions of a broadly important histone acetyltransferase family.

In a rapidly warming world, exposure to high temperatures may impact fitness, but the gene regulatory mechanisms that link sublethal heat to sexually selected traits are not well understood, particularly in endothermic animals. Our experiment used zebra finches (Taeniopygia guttata), songbirds that experience extreme temperature fluctuations in their native Australia. We exposed captive males to an acute thermal challenge (43°C) compared with thermoneutral (35°C) and lower (27°C) temperatures. We found significantly more heat dissipation behaviours at 43°C, a temperature previously shown to reduce song production and fertility, and more heat retention behaviours at 27°C. Next, we characterized transcriptomic responses in tissues important for mating effort-the posterior telencephalon, for its role in song production, and the testis, for its role in fertility and hormone production. Differential expression of hundreds of genes in the testes, but few in the brain, suggests the brain is less responsive to extreme temperatures. Nevertheless, gene network analyses revealed that expression related to dopaminergic signalling in the brain covaried with heat dissipation behaviours, providing a mechanism by which temporary thermal challenges may alter motivational circuits for song production. In both brain and testis, we observed correlations between thermally sensitive gene networks and individual differences in thermoregulatory behaviour. Although we cannot directly relate these gene regulatory changes to mating success, our results suggest that individual variation in response to thermal challenges could impact sexually selected traits in a warming world.

BACKGROUND: Breast cancer-related lymphedema (BCRL) is a debilitating sequela of breast cancer treatment and is becoming a greater concern in light of improved long-term survival. Inflammatory breast cancer (IBC) is a rare and aggressive malignancy for which systemic therapy, surgery, and radiotherapy remain the standard of care, thereby making IBC patients highly susceptible to developing BCRL. This study evaluated BCRL in IBC following trimodal therapy. METHODS: IBC patients treated from 2016 to 2019 were identified from an institutional database. Patients were excluded if they presented with recurrent disease, underwent bilateral axillary surgery, did not complete trimodal therapy, or were lost to follow-up. Demographic, clinicopathologic factors, oncologic outcomes, and perometer measurements were recorded. BCRL was defined by clinician diagnosis and/or objective perometer measurements when available. Time to development of BCRL and treatment received were captured. RESULTS: Eighty-three patients were included. Median follow-up was 33 months. The incidence of BCRL was 50.6% (n = 42). Mean time to BCRL from surgery was 13 (range 2-24) months. Demographic and clinicopathologic features were similar between patients with and without BCRL with exception of higher proportion receiving delayed reconstruction in the BCRL group (38.1% vs. 14.6%, p = 0.03). Forty patients (95.2%) underwent BCRL treatment, which included physical therapy (n = 39), compression (n = 38), therapeutic lymphovenous bypass (n = 13), and/or vascularized lymph node transfer (n = 12). CONCLUSIONS: IBC patients are at high-risk for BCRL after treatment, impacting 51% of patients in this cohort. Strategies to reduce or prevent BCRL and improve real-time diagnosis should be implemented to better direct early management in this patient population.

OBJECTIVES: Individuals with bipolar disorder are prone to risk-taking behavior that is subsequently regretted. Here, we investigated whether this also occurs in relation to the use of social media and online dating. METHODS: A questionnaire-based survey focusing on the use of social media and online dating was conducted among individuals attending an outpatient clinic for bipolar disorder, and among individuals attending two general practices in the same region (controls). The association between bipolar disorder and self-reported regretted behavior on social media/online dating sites was investigated using logistic regression with adjustment for age and sex. RESULTS: A total of 124 individuals with bipolar disorder and 196 individuals without affective disorder from the general practices (controls) formed the study sample. Among the individuals with bipolar disorder who used social media, 66% reported regretted behavior as a consequence of this use, whereas only 31% of the controls reported such behavior. The corresponding numbers for individuals who used online dating were 65% for those with bipolar disorder and 31% for the controls. Following adjustment for age and sex, bipolar disorder was associated with elevated risk of regretted behavior in relation to the use of both social media (adjusted odds ratio: 3.6, 95% CI: 2.2, 5.9) and online dating (adjusted odds ratio: 4.1, 95% CI: 2.1, 8.0). CONCLUSIONS: These findings suggest that risk-taking behavior and subsequent regret among individuals with bipolar disorder extend to social media and online dating. Cautious use of these platforms may be particularly relevant for individuals with bipolar disorder.

Biomimetic systems often exhibit striking designs well adapted to specific functions that have been inspiring the development of new technologies. Herein, we explored the remarkable ability of honey bees to catch and release large quantities of pollen grains. Hair spacing and height on bees are crucial for their ability to mechanically fix pollen grains. Inspired by this, we proposed the concept of a micropatterned surface for microparticle entrapment, featuring high-aspect-ratio elastic micropillars spaced to mimic the hairy surface of bees. The hypothesis was validated by investigating the ability of polydimethylsiloxane microfabricated patches to fix microparticles. The geometrical arrangement, spacing, height, and flexibility of the fabricated micropillars, and the diameter of the microparticles, were investigated. Higher entrapment capability was found through the match between particle size and pillar spacing, being consistent with the observations that the diameter of pollen grains is similar to the spacing between hairs on bees' legs. Taller pillars permitted immobilization of higher quantities of particles, consistent with the high aspect ratio of bees' hairs. Our biomimetic surfaces were explored for their ability to fix solid microparticles for drug-release applications, using tetracycline hydrochloride as a model antibiotic. These surfaces allowed fixation of more than 20 mg/cm2 of antibiotic, about five times higher dose than commercialized patches (5.1 mg/cm2). Such bioinspired hairy surfaces could find applications in a variety of fields where dry fixation of high quantities of micrometer-sized objects are needed, including biomedicine, agriculture, biotechnology/chemical industry, and cleaning utensils.

Social media provides an effective tool to reach, engage, and connect smokers in cessation efforts. Our team developed a Facebook group, CAN Quit (Connecting Alaska Native People to Quit smoking), to promote use of evidence-based smoking cessation resources for Alaska Native people living in Alaska, which are underused despite their effectiveness. Often separated by geography and climate, Alaska Native people prefer group-based approaches for tobacco cessation that support their culture and values. Such preferences make Alaska Native people candidates for social media-based interventions that promote connection. This viewpoint discusses the steps involved and lessons learned in building and beta-testing our Facebook group prototype, which will then be evaluated in a pilot randomized controlled trial. We describe the process of training moderators to facilitate group engagement and foster community, and we describe how we developed and tested our intervention prototype and Facebook group. All parts of the prototype were designed to facilitate use of evidence-based cessation treatments. We include recommendations for best practices with the hope that lessons learned from the CAN Quit prototype could provide a model for others to create similar platforms that benefit Alaska Native and American Indian people in the context of smoking cessation.

ABSTRACT: Research has demonstrated the ability of evidence-based practice (EBP) to enhance quality and reliability of health care, improve health outcomes, and reduce cost and health disparities. Nursing curricula often lack best practices for teaching EBP, as well as actual EBP course content, objectives, and activities, to advance student understanding of EBP. The unfortunate results are nurse graduates who do not value or perceive that they can use EBP. This study implemented an EBP assignment assessing clinical practice guidelines as a means of improving EBP beliefs in senior-level nursing students.

BACKGROUND: The impact of obesity on early-stage melanoma is poorly understood. We examined the impact of overweight and obesity on clinical outcomes in locoregional melanoma. METHODS: Adults who underwent surgery at Emory University Healthcare between 2010 and 2017 for clinically stage I-II cutaneous melanoma, with known stage, height, and weight at the time of presentation, were identified. The relationship between body mass index (BMI) and clinicopathologic characteristics was assessed. RESULTS: Of 1756 patients, 584 were obese (33.2%; BMI ≥ 30), 658 were overweight (37.5%; BMI ≥ 25 and < 30), and 514 were normal weight (29.3%; BMI < 25). Demographics associated with obesity included male sex (odds ratio [OR] 2.6, 95% confidence interval [CI] 2.1-3.3; p < 0.001) and lower income (OR 1.5, 95% CI 1.2-1.9; p = 0.003). Melanomas in obese patients were thicker (2.0 ± 0.2 mm) than in overweight (1.7 ± 0.1 mm) or normal-weight patients (1.4 ± 0.1 mm; p = 0.002). Ulceration, mitoses, BRAF status, and sentinel lymph node (SLN) status were not affected by obesity. In multivariable analysis, obesity independently predicted increased odds of pathologic stage II melanoma (vs. stage 0 or I; OR 1.9, 95% CI 1.4-2.7, p = 0.001), but not pathologic stage III melanoma (p > 0.05). At 33 months' median follow-up, obesity was not an independent predictor of stage-specific overall survival (p > 0.05). CONCLUSION: Obese patients are nearly twice as likely as their normal-weight peers to present with thicker melanomas, but they have similar stage-specific overall survival and SLN positivity. Obesity may promote more aggressive growth of the primary tumor, and barriers to preventive care in obese patients may exacerbate later-stage presentation.

BACKGROUND: Acral lentiginous melanoma is associated with worse survival than other subtypes of melanoma. Understanding prognostic factors for survival and recurrence can help better inform follow-up care. OBJECTIVES: To analyze the clinicopathologic features, melanoma-specific survival, and recurrence-free survival by substage in a large, multi-institutional cohort of primary acral lentiginous melanoma patients. METHODS: Retrospective review of the United States Melanoma Consortium database, a multi-center prospectively collected database of acral lentiginous melanoma patients treated between January 2000 and December 2017. RESULTS: Of the 433 primary acral lentiginous melanoma patients identified (median [range] age: 66 [8-97] years; 53% female, 83% white), 66% presented with stage 0-2 disease and the median time of follow-up for the 392 patients included in the survival analysis was 32.5 months (range: 0-259). The 5-year melanoma-specific survivals by stage were 0 = 100%, I = 93.8%, II = 76.2%, III = 63.4%, IIIA = 80.8%, and IV = 0%. Thicker Breslow depth ((HR) = 1.13; 95% CI = 1.05-1.21; P < .001)) and positive nodal status ((HR) = 1.79; 95% CI = 1.00-3.22; P = .050)) were independent prognostic factors for melanoma-specific survival. Breslow depth ((HR = 1.13; 95% CI = 1.07-1.20; P < .001), and positive nodal status (HR = 2.12; 95% CI = 1.38-3.80; P = .001) were also prognostic factors for recurrence-free survival. CONCLUSION: In this cohort of patients, acral lentiginous melanoma was associated with poor outcomes even in early stage disease, consistent with prior reports. Stage IIB and IIC disease were associated with particularly low melanoma-specific and recurrence-free survival. This suggests that studies investigating adjuvant therapies in stage II patients may be especially valuable in acral lentiginous melanoma patients.

BACKGROUND: The Callithrix geoffroyi are increasingly present in Brazilian urban areas, where they are vulnerable to health problems. The purpose of this study was a description of hematology and nine blood chemistry parameters of free-ranging C. geoffroyi. METHODS: Thirty individuals were captured in urban-forested settings. The marmosets were anesthetized, venopunctioned, and released shortly after recovery. The analysis was carried on in a veterinary laboratory, using automatic cells counter, staining methods, and an automatic biochemical analyzer. RESULTS AND CONCLUSIONS: Male and female free-ranging C. geoffroyi have similar hematological and blood chemistry values. The adults presented higher concentrations of erythrocytes (P <.02) and hemoglobin (P <.02) than young marmosets. The platelet concentration was lower (P <.05) in adults comparing to young marmosets. There were not statistically significant differences between young and adult blood chemistry concentrations. This is the first time that are presented hematology and blood biochemistry data on free-ranging C. geoffroyi.

BACKGROUND: Face-to-face tobacco cessation has had limited reach and efficacy in Alaska Native (AN) communities. We describe our two-phased approach to develop content for Connecting Alaska Native People to Quit Smoking, a Facebook group intervention to reduce barriers to evidence-based smoking cessation treatment for AN people in Alaska. METHODS: Phase 1 included semi-structured telephone interviews with 30 AN people who smoke and ten stakeholders. They provided feedback on existing content from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Tips campaign and AN digital stories. Phase 2 included an online survey with a new group of 40 AN smokers who provided feedback on existing content via a measure of perceived effectiveness and cultural relevance. RESULTS: Phase I results revealed participants evaluated content based upon story strength, relevance to AN culture, emotional appeal, relatability to AN people, and favorite video. No single posting was rated highly across all themes. All perceived effectiveness (PE) and cultural relevance median scores fell between 3.5 and 4.4 (range 1-5). PE scores varied across participant demographic groups. CONCLUSIONS: Content embodying characteristics perceived to be most appealing, effective, and culturally relevant were selected for the private Facebook group content library with refinements made to incorporate images of AN people engaged in AN activities. PE scores indicate a need for a wide variety of content that moderators could pull from when conducting the intervention. IMPLICATIONS: Social media content targeting specific population sectors, such as American Indian/AN people for tobacco cessation needs to be culturally tailored. Our approach provides a model others can follow to determine what is appealing, relevant, and effective messaging. CLINICAL TRIAL REGISTRATION: NCT03645941.

The vocal repertoire of the pantropical spotted dolphin (Stenella attenuata) is poorly documented, with no published information about acoustic signals from South Atlantic Ocean populations. We conducted passive acoustic monitoring and recording of S. attenuata population in the Santos Basin, Brazil, using a towed hydrophone array during line-transects surveys. Our monitoring yielded whistle samples derived from eight groups of S. attenuata, from which we selected 155 whistles for further analysis. Approximately 48% of the whistles presented ultrasonic frequency values, with maximum frequencies up to 31.1 kHz. Across the sample, the number of steps ranged from 0 to 20 and inflection points ranged from 0 to 8. On average, end frequencies were higher than start frequencies, and whistles generally presented wide frequency ranges, with an average of 11.3 kHz. The most predominant whistle contour category was "ascending-descending." Our study provides new information regarding the acoustic repertoire of this poorly documented species and will aid efforts for using acoustics to identify and monitor cetaceans in this region.
