RESUMO

Motile bacteria navigate toward favorable conditions and away from unfavorable environments using chemotaxis. Mechanisms of sensing attractants are well understood; however, molecular aspects of how bacteria sense repellents have not been established. Here, we identified malate as a repellent recognized by the MCP2201 chemoreceptor in a bacterium Comamonas testosteroni and showed that it binds to the same site as an attractant citrate. Binding determinants for a repellent and an attractant had only minor differences, and a single amino acid substitution in the binding site inverted the response to malate from a repellent to an attractant. We found that malate and citrate affect the oligomerization state of the ligand-binding domain in opposing way. We also observed opposing effects of repellent and attractant binding on the orientation of an alpha helix connecting the sensory domain to the transmembrane helix. We propose a model to illustrate how positive and negative signals might be generated.

Liver function has been suggested as a possible factor in the progression of Alzheimer's disease (AD) development. However, the association between liver function and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) levels of AD biomarkers remains unclear. In this study, we analyzed the data from 1687 adults without dementia from the Chinese Alzheimer's Biomarker and LifestylE study to investigate differences in liver function between pathological and clinical AD groups, as defined by the 2018 National Institute on Aging-Alzheimer's Association Research Framework. We also examined the linear relationship between liver function, CSF AD biomarkers, and cognition using linear regression models. Furthermore, mediation analyses were applied to explore the potential mediation effects of AD pathological biomarkers on cognition. Our findings indicated that, with AD pathological and clinical progression, the concentrations of total protein (TP), globulin (GLO), and aspartate aminotransferase/alanine transaminase (ALT) increased, while albumin/globulin (A/G), adenosine deaminase, alpha-L-fucosidase, albumin, prealbumin, ALT, and glutamate dehydrogenase (GLDH) concentrations decreased. Furthermore, we also identified significant relationships between TP (ß = -0.115, pFDR < 0.001), GLO (ß = -0.184, pFDR < 0.001), and A/G (ß = 0.182, pFDR < 0.001) and CSF ß-amyloid1-42 (Aß1-42 ) (and its related CSF AD biomarkers). Moreover, after 10 000 bootstrapped iterations, we identified a potential mechanism by which TP and GLDH may affect cognition by mediating CSF AD biomarkers, with mediation effect sizes ranging from 3.91% to 16.44%. Overall, our results suggested that abnormal liver function might be involved in the clinical and pathological progression of AD. Amyloid and tau pathologies also might partially mediate the relationship between liver function and cognition. Future research is needed to fully understand the underlying mechanisms and causality to develop an approach to AD prevention and treatment approach.

Though previous studies revealed the potential associations of elevated levels of plasma fibrinogen with dementia, there is still limited understanding regarding the influence of Alzheimer's disease (AD) biomarkers on these associations. We sought to investigate the interrelationships among fibrinogen, cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) AD biomarkers, and cognition in non-demented adults. We included 1996 non-demented adults from the Chinese Alzheimer's Biomarker and LifestylE (CABLE) study and 337 from the Alzheimer's Disease Neuroimaging Initiative (ADNI) database. The associations of fibrinogen with AD biomarkers and cognition were explored using multiple linear regression models. The mediation analyses with 10 000 bootstrapped iterations were conducted to explore the mediating effects of AD biomarkers on cognition. In addition, interaction analyses and subgroup analyses were conducted to assess the influence of covariates on the relationships between fibrinogen and AD biomarkers. Participants exhibiting low Aß42 were designated as A+, while those demonstrating high phosphorylated tau (P-tau) and total tau (Tau) were labeled as T+ and N+, respectively. Individuals with normal measures of Aß42 and P-tau were categorized as the A-T- group, and those with abnormal levels of both Aß42 and P-tau were grouped under A+T+. Fibrinogen was higher in the A+ subgroup compared to that in the A- subgroup (p = 0.026). Fibrinogen was higher in the A+T+ subgroup compared to that in the A-T- subgroup (p = 0.011). Higher fibrinogen was associated with worse cognition and Aß pathology (all p < 0.05). Additionally, the associations between fibrinogen and cognition were partially mediated by Aß pathology (mediation proportion range 8%-28%). Interaction analyses and subgroup analyses showed that age and ApoE ε4 affect the relationships between fibrinogen and Aß pathology. Fibrinogen was associated with both cognition and Aß pathology. Aß pathology may be a critical mediator for impacts of fibrinogen on cognition.

Bacterial chemoreceptors sense the extracellular signals and regulate bacterial motilities, biofilm formation, etc. The periplasmic ligand binding domains of chemoreceptors occur as different structural folds and recognize a diversity of chemical molecules. In Pseudomonas aeruginosa (PAO1), two bacterial chemoreceptors, McpN (PA2788) and PilJ (PA0411), are proposed to both contain a PilJ-like ligand-binding domain (LBD) (Pfam motif PF13675) and involved in nitrate chemotaxis and type IV pilus-mediated motility, respectively. The LBDs of McpN and PilJ consist of 135 and 263 residues, respectively, and share very low sequence identity, suggesting they might occur as different structures. Here, we found that PilJ-LBD folded into an HBM module, the same as the sensor domains of McpS-LBD and TorS-LBD, but it differed from that of McpN-LBD. We also observed a trimer in SEC and AUC and proposed a trimeric model based on the crystal structure. Based on the sequence, we classified the Pfam containing McpN-LBD and PilJ-LBD into three classes: sPilJ (single PilJ) represented by McpN-LBD with only one PilJ domain, dPilJ (dual PilJ) that contained dual PilJ domains, and hPilJ (hybrid PilJ) that comprises of a PilJ domain and another non-PilJ domain. Our work indicates a significant structural difference between the ligand binding domains of PilJ and McpN and will help our further study on both kinds of chemoreceptors.

OBJECTIVE: To compare contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) with microbubbles containing sulfur hexafluoride (SHF) and perfluorobutane (PFB) for the detection of colorectal liver metastasis (CRLM). METHODS: In this prospective study, conducted from September to November 2021, patients with colorectal cancer were consecutively recruited and underwent same-day ultrasound, SHF-CEUS, and PFB-CEUS. The reference standard was contrast-enhanced MRI and follow-up imaging. The size, depth, echogenicity, and calcification of each focal liver lesion were recorded. The number and conspicuity of CRLMs, based on washout appearance during the late phase (LP) (> 120 s)/Kupffer phase (KP), were evaluated offsite by two blinded readers. RESULTS: Overall, 230 lesions (CRLMs, n = 219; benign lesions, n = 11) in 78 patients were evaluated. Lesion conspicuity (p = 0.344) and accuracy in the detection of CRLM were comparable for SHF- and PFB-CEUS (0.877 for SHF vs. 0.770 for PFB, p = 0.087). More CRLMs ≥ 10 mm were identified by LP contrast washout in SHF-CEUS than in KP PFB-CEUS (p < 0.001). More CRLMs < 10 mm were identified by KP washout in PFB-CEUS than in LP SHF-CEUS (p < 0.001). Conspicuity was better on PFB-CEUS than on SHF-CEUS (p = 0.027). In hyperechoic lesions, lesions located deeper than 80 mm, and calcified lesions, CRLM conspicuity on PFB-CEUS was inferior to that on SHF-CEUS (p < 0.05). CONCLUSIONS: The overall accuracy of detection and conspicuity of washout in CRLMs were comparable between SHF and PFB-CEUS. PFB-CEUS has the advantage of identifying washout in small CRLMs. However, larger, hyperechogenic, deep-seated, or calcified lesions were better identified using SHF-CEUS. CLINICAL RELEVANCE STATEMENT: Accuracy of detection and conspicuity of washout in CRLMs were comparable between SHF- and PFB-CEUS. PFB-CEUS has the advantage in detecting small CRLMs, whereas SHF-CEUS is better for detecting larger, hyperechogenic, deep-seated, or calcified lesions. KEY POINTS: Contrast-enhanced ultrasound with sulfur hexafluoride in the late phase and perfluorobutane microbubbles in the Kupffer phase were comparable in terms of accuracy in the detection and conspicuity of colorectal liver metastases. Small colorectal liver metastases (< 10 mm) were more often identified in the Kupffer phase contrast-enhanced ultrasound imaging when using perfluorobutane microbubbles. Larger, hyperechogenic, deep-seated, or calcified lesions were better identified in the late phase contrast-enhanced ultrasound imaging (> 120 s) when using sulfur hexafluoride microbubbles.

Two quaternary manganese selenites, A2(Mn2O)(SeO3)3 (A = K, Rb), have been synthesized by hydrothermal reactions. They both crystallize in a complex triclinic (P-1) structure built of Jahn-Teller (JT) distorted Mn3+O4+2 octahedra, connected into nearly isosceles [Mn3O14] triangles, themselves arranged into so-called "sawtooth (ST) chains". The K and Rb compounds show subtle variations in the orientations of the MnO4 planes inside the elementary triangles. The ST chains are structurally and magnetically isolated by SeO3 groups and alkali cations. In the ST chains, predominant ferromagnetic interactions were calculated and verified experimentally, which finally order antiferromagnetically between the chains around TN ≈ 22 K. The spin exchanges calculated by DFT + U and fitted by Monte Carlo simulations allow for the quantification of an effective "overall" model. The specific role of the µ3-O bridge on the ferromagnetic (FM) exchanges is discussed, together with spin reorientations observed in the ordered state. Magnetocrystalline anisotropy along the [110] direction stabilized by ∼50 meV per Mn by spin-orbit coupling (SOC) was found by DFT + U + SOC.

By means of ab initio density functional theory calculations taking into account electronic correlation and van der Waals force, we conducted comprehensive studies of the electronic and magnetic properties, as well as structural and magnetic ordering evolution under pressure of the square lattice antiferromagnets AMoOPO4Cl (A = K, Rb) containing Mo5+ ions with , theoretically predicted as the potential candidates for achieving quantum phases, existing in the boundary regimes for square lattice magnets. Our results indicate that the columnar antiferromagnetic ordering, experimentally determined, is the magnetic ground state of the ambient P4/nmm phase, stabilized by the predominant antiferromagnetic next nearest neighbor interaction J2 in the diagonal directions of the square lattice, regardless of the effective Hubbard amendment values. More importantly, the P4/n phase, involving the mutual twisting of the MoO5Cl and PO4 polyhedra, satisfactorily reproduces the experimentally observed structural transition and the subsequent magnetic ordering transition from columnar antiferromagnetic ordering to Néel antiferromagnetic one, identified to be the appropriate high pressure structure. Furthermore, the mechanism underlined responsible for the magnetic ordering transition at high pressure has been disclosed in terms of density of states and spin density isosurface analysis across the transition. The loss of mirror plane symmetry in the P4/n phase activates the P 3s orbitals to participate in the magnetic interaction, giving rise to a competitive ferromagnetic superexchange interaction, in addition to antiferromagnetic direct one, and consequently initiating the magnetic ordering transition. The insights revealed here not only deepen our understanding of the electronic properties and structural and magnetic ordering transitions under high pressure of square lattice antiferromagnets AMoOPO4Cl (A = K, Rb), but also push the boundaries of knowledge by recognizing the role of nonmagnetic ions P 3s in magnetic exchange coupling.

Combining the phosphonic acid group with the sulfonic acid group in PEMs has been shown to be an effective strategy for improving the fuel cell performance. However, the interplay of two different ionic groups and the resulting effect on the membrane properties have not been fully elucidated. Here, we used classical molecular dynamics simulation to investigate the morphologies, transport properties and effects of ionic groups in a novel perfluorinated PEM containing two ionic groups (PFSA-PFPA) in comparison to the corresponding homopolymers. Phase separations between hydrophilic and hydrophobic domains are confirmed in these PEMs and result from the evolution of water clusters formed around the ionic groups. The combination of both ionic groups brings a complicated morphological feature in PFSA-PFPA, with near-cylindrical aqueous domains of large length scales interconnected by tortuous domains of small sizes. And we found that the self-diffusion coefficients of water molecules are strongly related to morphologies, with the water transport in PFSA-PFPA lying between two analogous homopolymers. At the molecular level, we found that the sulfonic and phosphonic acid groups have distinct effects on the coordination behaviors and the dynamics of water molecules and hydronium ions. Strong electrostatic interactions lead to compact coordination structures and sluggish dynamics of hydronium ions around phosphonic acid groups, which determine the morphological evolution and transport properties in PFSA-PFPA. Our study affords insights into the relationship between molecular characteristics and transport properties bridged by phase-separated morphologies in a novel PEM containing both sulfonic acid and phosphonic acid groups, which deepens the understanding of the interplay between two ionic groups and may inspire the rational design of high-performance PEMs.

To reveal the mechanism of Shenkang injection (SKI) in the treatment of chronic renal failure, and verify the key pathway. In this work, an untargeted metabolomics approach was performed by LC-MS coupled with multivariate statistical analysis to provide new insights into therapeutic mechanism of SKI. Hematoxylin-eosin (H&E) Staining and Immunohistochemistry were used to evaluate the effects of drug treatment, Western blot was used to verify the critical pathway. Then, a total of 44 potential biomarkers of chronic renal failure (CRF) were identified and reversed regulation, including 2,8-dihydroxypurine, 5-methoxytryptophan, uric acid, acetylcarnitine, taurine, etc. Mainly concerned with arginine and proline metabolism, purine metabolism, histidine metabolism, etc. Pathological examination showed that the renal interstitium of SKI group was significantly improved, with fewer inflammatory cells and thinner vascular walls compared with the model group. Immunohistochemical results showed that the expression of α-smooth muscle actin (α-SMA) was decreased, and the expression of E-cadherin was increased in CRF model group, and the two indicators were reversed regulation in SKI injection, indicating that the degree of fibrosis was relieved. Critical signaling pathway phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase (PI3K)/protein kinase B (Akt) and nuclear factor-kappaB (NF-κB) protein expressions were significantly inhibited. This study was the first to employ metabolomics to elucidate the underlying mechanisms of SKI in chronic renal failure. The results would provide some support for clinical application of traditional Chinese medicines in clinic.

BACKGROUND This retrospective study aimed to compare patient outcomes from standard total knee arthroplasty (TKA) vs navigation-guided arthroplasty using the Brainlab software-guided surgical system at Cangzhou Hospital of Integrated TCM-WM, Hebei, Hebei Province, China from January 2021 to July 2023. MATERIAL AND METHODS A total of 239 patients who underwent total knee arthroplasty in Cangzhou Hospital of Integrated TCM-WM, Hebei from January 2021 to July 2023 were retrospectively analyzed. According to the inclusion criteria, 212 eligible patients were selected for analysis and divided into a Navigation Group (NG) (n=105) and a Traditional Group (TG) (n=107) according to surgical method used. Outcomes measured included duration of disease, operative time, intraoperative blood loss volume, postoperative length of hospital stay, and pain measured by the hospital for special surgery knee score (HSS), Western Ontario and McMaster University Osteoarthritis Index (WOMAC), and forgotten joint score (FJS). RESULTS The comparison of perioperative results between the 2 groups showed that the incision length in the NG was significantly longer than that in the TG (P<0.001, 95% Cl 2.59-3.35). At 3 months after surgery, the HSS score of the NG was statistically higher than that of the TG (P=0.002, 95% Cl 3.42-4.46); the WOMAC score of the NG was lower than that of the TG (P<0.001, 95% Cl -4.41-2.87); and the FJS score of the NG was significantly higher than that of the TG (P=0.003, 95% Cl 2.39-3.67). CONCLUSIONS Compared with conventional TKA, use of the Brainlab navigation system is associated with a longer incision, more accurate implantation position of the prosthesis, faster recovery of knee joint function, and helps patients to "forget" about their knee prosthesis in the short term.

Recently, consumers have become increasingly interested in natural, health-promoting, and chronic disease-preventing medicine and food homology (MFH). There has been accumulating evidence that many herbal medicines, including MFH, are biologically active due to their biotransformation through the intestinal microbiota. The emphasis of scientific investigation has moved from the functionally active role of MFH to the more subtle role of biotransformation of the active ingredients in probiotic-fermented MFH and their health benefits. This review provides an overview of the current status of research on probiotic-fermented MFH. Probiotics degrade toxins and anti-nutritional factors in MFH, improve the flavor of MFH, and increase its bioactive components through their transformative effects. Moreover, MFH can provide a material base for the growth of probiotics and promote the production of their metabolites. In addition, the health benefits of probiotic-fermented MFH in recent years, including antimicrobial, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, anti-neurodegenerative, skin-protective, and gut microbiome-modulating effects, are summarized, and the health risks associated with them are also described. Finally, the future development of probiotic-fermented MFH is prospected in combination with modern development technologies, such as high-throughput screening technology, synthetic biology technology, and database construction technology. Overall, probiotic-fermented MFH has the potential to be used in functional food for preventing and improving people's health. In the future, personalized functional foods can be expected based on synthetic biology technology and a database on the functional role of probiotic-fermented MFH.

MAIN CONCLUSION: This study reported seven new plastomes from Impatiens and observed three highly variable regions for phylogeny and DNA barcoding, which resolved the relationships among sections of subgenus Impatiens. Impatiens L. (Balsaminaceae, Ericales) is one of the largest and most diverse genera of angiosperms, widely known for its taxonomic difficulty. In this study, we reevaluated the infrageneric relationships within the genus Impatiens, using complete plastome sequence data. Seven complete plastomes of Impatiens (representing 6 species) were newly sequenced and characterized along with 20 previously published plastomes of other Impatiens species, plus 2 plastomes of outgroups (Hydrocera triflora, Balsaminaceae; Marcgravia coriacea, Marcgraviaceae). The total size of these 29 plastomes ranged from 151,538 bp to 152,917 bp, except 2 samples of Impatiens morsei, which exhibited a shorter length and lost some genes encoding NADH dehydrogenase subunits. Moreover, the number of simple sequence repeats (SSRs) ranged from 51 to 113, and the number of long repeats from 17 to 26. In addition, three highly variable regions were identified (trnG-GCC (The previous one), ndhF-rpl32-trnL-UGA-ccsA, and ycf1). Our phylogenomic analysis based on 80 plastome-derived protein-coding genes strongly supported the monophyly of Impatiens and its two subgenera (Clavicarpa and Impatiens), and fully resolved relationships among the six (out of seven) sampled sections of subgenus Impatiens. Overall, the plastome DNA markers and phylogenetic results reported in this study will facilitate future identification, taxonomic and DNA barcoding studies in Impatiens as well as evolutionary studies in Balsaminaceae.

Nitrogen (N) is an essential macronutrient for plants, and its remobilization is key for adaptation to deficiency stress. However, there is limited understanding of the regulatory mechanisms of N remobilization in the important crop species Brassica napus (oilseed rape). Here, we report the identification of a transcription factor, BnaA9.WRKY47, that is induced by N starvation in a canola variety. At the seedling stage, BnaA9.WRKY47-overexpressing (OE) lines displayed earlier senescence of older leaves and preferential growth of juvenile leaves compared to the wild type under N starvation. At the field scale, the seed yield was significantly increased in the BnaA9.WRKY47-OE lines compared with the wild type when grown under N deficiency conditions and, conversely, it was reduced in BnaA9.WRKY47-knockout mutants. Biochemical analyses demonstrated that BnaA9.WRKY47 directly activates BnaC7.SGR1 to accelerate senescence of older leaves. In line with leaf senescence, the concentration of amino acids in the older leaves of the OE lines was elevated, and the proportion of plant N that they contained was reduced. This was associated with BnaA9.WRKY47 activating the amino acid permease BnaA9.AAP1 and the nitrate transporter BnaA2.NRT1.7. Thus, the expression of BnaA9.WRKY47 efficiently facilitated N remobilization from older to younger leaves or to seeds. Taken together, our results demonstrate that BnaA9.WRKY47 up-regulates the expression of BnaC7.SGR1, BnaA2.NRT1.7, and BnaA9AAP1, thus promoting the remobilization of N in B. napus under starvation conditions.

RESUMO

Inspired by carbon monoxide dehydrogenase (CODH), mimicking its inner and outer spheres is a promising strategy in CO2 reduction catalyst design. However, artificial CODH-like catalysts are generally limited to the inner sphere effect and only applicable in organic solvents or for electrocatalysis. Herein, an aqueous CODH mimic with both inner and outer spheres for photocatalysis is reported. In this polymeric unimolecular catalyst, the inner sphere is composed of cobalt porphyrin with four appended amido groups and the outer sphere consists of four poly(2-(dimethylamino)ethyl methacrylate) (PDMAEMA) arms. Upon visible light irradiation (λ >420 nm), the as-prepared catalyst exhibits a turnover number (TONCO ) of 1731.2 in the reduction of CO2 into CO, which is comparable to most reported molecular catalysts in aqueous solution. The mechanism studies indicate that, in this water-dispersible and structurally well-defined CODH mimic, the cobalt porphyrin core serves as the catalysis center and the amido groups function as hydrogen-bonding pillars helping to stabilize the CO2 adduct intermediate, whereas the PDMAEMA shell renders both water solubility and a CO2 reservoir through reversibly capturing of CO2 . The present work has clarified the significance of coordination sphere effects for improving the aqueous photocatalytic CO2 reduction performance of CODH mimics.

Although anti-CD19 chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T cell therapy has achieved satisfactory results in relapsed/refractory (R/R) follicular lymphoma (FL), patients with R/R FL and high-risk disease characteristics, previous hematopoietic stem cell transplantation, bulky disease, and progression of disease within 2 years (POD24) had a low complete response (CR). Twenty-seven patients with R/R FL, later disease stages, higher tumor burden, or higher previous treatment lines who had received Bruton tyrosine kinase (BTK) inhibitors before anti-CD19 CAR T cell therapy, or received BTK inhibitors as combination therapy, were included in this study. The clinical response and adverse events (AEs) in anti-CD19 CAR T cell therapy were observed. All patients with R/R FL who received BTK inhibitors combined with anti-CD19-CAR T cell therapy had later disease stages, higher tumor burden, and higher treatment lines than those who did not receive BTK inhibitor combination therapy. However, no difference in the clinical response was found between the two groups. The clinical response in the POD24 group was lower than that in the non-POD24 group; however, no difference in the clinical response was found between the FL and transformed FL (tFL) groups, between the follicular lymphoma international prognostic index (FLIPI) 1 1-2 and FLIPI 1 3-5 groups, and between the FLIPI 2 1-2 and FLIPI 2 3-5 groups. The mean anti-CD19 CAR T cell peak was higher in the CAR-T group with BTK inhibitor than in the CAR-T group without BTK inhibitor. Meanwhile, a higher proportion of patients in the non-POD24 group, FL group, and PR group achieved CR after 2 months. No difference in cytokine secretion was found between the CAR-T group with and without BTK inhibitors. It was higher in the non-POD24 group, FLIPI 1 3-5 group, and FLIPI 2 3-5 group. No difference in cytokine release syndrome and immune effector cell-associated neurotoxic syndrome grades was found between the CAR-T groups with or without BTK inhibitors and between the other groups. Poor prognostic factors, other than POD24, did not affect the clinical response to BTK inhibitors in combination with anti-CD19 CAR T cell therapy in patients with R/R FL. Therefore, BTK inhibitors combined with anti-CD19 CAR-T therapy may be an effective and safe approach for patients with R/R FL and high-risk factors.Trial registration: The study was registered at http://www.chictr.org.cn/index.aspx as ChiCTR-ONN-16009862 and http://www.chictr.org.cn/index.aspx as ChiCTR1800019622.

Oilseed rape (Brassica napus L.; B. napus) is an important oil crop worldwide. However, the genetic mechanisms of B. napus adaptations to low phosphate (P) stress are largely unknown. In this study, a genome-wide association study (GWAS) identified 68 SNPs significantly associated with seed yield (SY) under low P (LP) availability, and 7 SNPs significantly associated with phosphorus efficiency coefficient (PEC) in two trials. Among these SNPs, two, chrC07__39807169 and chrC09__14194798, were co-detected in two trials, and BnaC07.ARF9 and BnaC09.PHT1;2 were identified as candidate genes of them, respectively, by combining GWAS with quantitative reverse-transcription PCR (qRT-PCR). There were significant differences in the gene expression level of BnaC07.ARF9 and BnaC09.PHT1;2 between P-efficient and -inefficiency varieties at LP. SY_LP had a significant positive correlation with the gene expression level of both BnaC07.ARF9 and BnaC09.PHT1;2. BnaC07.ARF9 and BnaA01.PHR1 could directly bind the promoters of BnaA01.PHR1 and BnaC09.PHT1;2, respectively. Selective sweep analysis was conducted between ancient and derived B. napus, and detected 1280 putative selective signals. Within the selected region, a large number of genes related to P uptake, transport, and utilization were detected, such as purple acid phosphatase (PAP) family genes and phosphate transporter (PHT) family genes. These findings provide novel insights into the molecular targets for breeding P efficiency varieties in B. napus. PURPOSE: To assess the utility of Sonazoid contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) for guiding percutaneous microwave ablation (MWA) for colorectal liver metastases (CRLMs). MATERIALS AND METHODS: The medical records of patients who had undergone ultrasound (US)-guided percutaneous MWA between July 2020 and June 2022, were reviewed. Propensity score matching (PSM) with a ratio of 1:1 was used to balance the potential bias between the grayscale US-guided and Sonazoid CEUS-guided groups. Local tumor progression (LTP), intrahepatic recurrence (IR), and complication rates were compared between the two groups. RESULTS: Of 252 patients enrolled, 247 achieved complete ablation, and the technical effectiveness was 98.0% (247/252). Of these 247 patients, 158 were in the grayscale US-guided group and 89 in the Sonazoid CEUS-guided group. The median follow-up period was 14.6 months. After PSM, there were no significant differences in LTP, IR, or complication rates between the two groups (p = 0.100, p = 0.511, p > 0.99, respectively). Multivariate analysis identified tumor size ≥ 3 cm (hazard ratio [HR], 7.945; 95% CI, 2.591-24.370; p < 0.001), perivascular (HR, 2.331; 95% CI, 1.068-5.087; p = 0.034), and tumor depth > 8 cm (HR, 3.194; 95% CI, 1.439-7.091; p = 0.004) as significant factors associated with LTP. For tumors with poor vision on grayscale US, Sonazoid CEUS-guided ablation achieved a better LTP rate than grayscale US-guided ablation (3.7% vs.14.8%, p = 0.032). CONCLUSION: For tumors with poor vision on grayscale US, Sonazoid CEUS guidance is recommended for better local tumor control.

PURPOSE: To compare the diagnostic value of ultrasonic elastosonography (UE) and contrast-enhanced ultrasonography (CEUS) for benign and malignant intraocular tumors. METHODS: This retrospective study enrolled patients with intraocular tumors at Beijing Tongren Hospital, Capital Medical University (August 2016 to January 2020). The strain rate ratio (strain rate of tumor tissue divided by strain rate of surrounding normal tissue) was measured by UE. CEUS was performed using SonoVue® contrast agent. The performance of each method at differentiating benign from malignant intraocular tumors was evaluated by receiver operating characteristic curve analysis. RESULTS: The analysis included 147 eyes in 145 patients (45.6 ± 13.4 years-old; 66 males): 117 patients (119 eyes) with malignant tumors and 28 patients (28 eyes) with benign tumors. At an optimal cutoff of 22.67 for the strain rate ratio, UE distinguished benign from malignant tumors with a sensitivity of 86.6% and a specificity of 96.4%. CEUS showed that 117 eyes with malignant tumors had a fast-in, fast-out time-intensity curve, and only two eyes with malignant tumors had a fast-in, slow-out curve, while all 28 eyes with benign tumors had a fast-in, slow-out curve. CEUS differentiated benign from malignant tumors with a sensitivity of 98.3% and a specificity of 100%. The diagnostic results differed significantly between the two methods (P = 0.004, McNemar test). The diagnostic performances of the two tests were moderately consistent (κ = 0.657, P < 0.001). CONCLUSION: Both CEUS and UE have good diagnostic value in the differentiation of benign intraocular tumors from malignant intraocular tumors.

PURPOSE: To investigate the relationship between lens morphology and aberrations in patients with myopia. METHODS: This cross-sectional study included 155 patients with myopia in their right eyes. Spherical power and cylindrical power were achieved by cycloplegic autorefraction. The eyes were divided into three groups for analysis based on their spherical equivalent (SE) values. The 4 mm and 6 mm ocular and internal aberrations were measured using the OPD-scan III. Lens parameters were measured using CASIA2, including lens thickness (LT), radius of anterior/posterior lens surface curvature (RAL/RPL), lens decentration (DEC), and lens tilt (TILT). The differences of lenticular parameters and aberration parameters among the three groups analyzed with ANOVA or Kruskal Wallis test. Pearson correlation or Spearman correlation analysis was performed to evaluate the relationships between the lens parameters and aberrations. A p value < 0.05 indicated statistical significance. RESULTS: The difference in LT, RAL, DEC and TITL among the three groups was statistically significant (p < 0.05). And there were differences among differences in internal high-order aberrations, spherical aberration, and coma aberration(p < 0.05).Spherical power was positively correlated with LT and TITL (p < 0.05) and negatively correlated with DEC, RAL, and RPL (p < 0.05). Cylindrical power was positively correlated with LT (p < 0.05) and negatively correlated DEC (p < 0.05); The lenticular parameters (LT, RAL, DEC, and TILT) were mainly correlated with the ocular and internal spherical aberration. LT and DEC were correlated with ocular and internal higher-order aberrations and coma aberration. CONCLUSION: DEC and LT were the main factors affecting aberrations in patients with myopia.

Rechargeable sodium/chlorine (Na/Cl2 ) batteries are emerging candidates for sustainable energy storage owing to their superior energy densities and the high abundance of Na and Cl elements. However, their practical applications have been plagued by the poor rate performance (e.g., a maximum discharge current density of 150 mA g-1 ), as the widely used carbon nanosphere cathodes show both sluggish electron-ion transport and reaction kinetics. Here, by mimicking the sufficient mass and energy transport in a sponge, we report a bicontinuous-structured carbon cubosome with heteroatomic doping, which allows efficient Na+ and electron transport and promotes Cl2 adsorption and conversion, thus unlocking ultrahigh-rate Na/Cl2 batteries, e.g., a maximum discharge current density of 16,000 mA g-1 that is more than two orders of magnitude higher than previous reports. The optimized solid-liquid-gas (carbon-electrolyte-Cl2 ) triple interfaces further contribute to a maximum reversible capacity and cycle life of 2,000 mAh g-1 and 250 cycles, respectively. This study establishes a universal approach for improving the sluggish kinetics of conversion-type battery reactions, and provides a new paradigm to resolve the long-standing dilemma between high energy and power densities in energy storage devices.
