PURPOSE: Sleeve Gastrectomy (SG) is the most performed bariatric surgery, but a considerable number of patients may require revisional procedures for suboptimal clinical response/recurrence of weight (SCR/RoW). Conversion options include One-Anastomosis Gastric Bypass (OAGB) and Single Anastomosis Duodeno-Ileal Bypass (SADI). The study aims to compare SADI vs. OAGB as revisional procedures in terms of early and mid-term complications, operative time, postoperative hospital stay and clinical outcomes. METHODS: All patients who underwent OAGB or SADI as revisional procedures following SG for SCR/RoW at three high-volume bariatric centers between January 2014 and April 2021 were included. Propensity score matching (PSM) analysis was performed. Demographic, operative, and postoperative outcomes of the two groups were compared. RESULTS: One hundred and sixty-eight patients were identified. After PSM, the two groups included 42 OAGB and 42 SADI patients. Early (≤ 30 days) postoperative complications rate did not differ significantly between OAGB and SADI groups (3 bleedings vs. 0, p = 0.241). Mid-term (within 2 years) complications rate was significantly higher in the OAGB group (21.4% vs. 2.4%, p = 0.007), mainly anastomotic complications and reflux disease (12% of OAGBs). Seven OAGB patients required conversion to another procedure (Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass-RYGB) vs. none among the SADI patients (p = 0.006). CONCLUSIONS: SADI and OAGB are both effective as revisional procedures for SCR/RoW after SG. OAGB is associated with a significantly higher rate of mid-term complications and a not negligible rate of conversion (RYGB). Larger studies are necessary to draw definitive conclusions.

BACKGROUND: Benign Prostatic Obstruction (BPO) is the most common non-malignant urological condition among men and its incidence rise with age. Among prostate treatments, GreenLight laser seems to reduce bleeding and would be safer in the aging population. AIMS: We aimed to compare the functional outcomes and safety profile of < 75 years old (Group A) and ≥ 75 years old (Group B) patients. METHODS: In a multicenter setting, we retrospectively analyzed all the patients treated with GreenLight Laser vaporization of the prostate (PVP). RESULTS: 1077 patients were eligible for this study. 757 belonged to Group A (median age 66 years) and 320 to Group B (median age 78 years). No differences were present between the two groups in terms of prostate volume, operative time, hospital stay, PSA decrease over time after surgery, complications and re-intervention rate with a median follow-up period of 18 months (IQR 12-26). Nevertheless, focusing on complications, GreenLight laser PVP demonstrated an excellent safety profile in terms of hospital stay, re-intervention and complications, with an overall 29.6% complication rate in older patients and only two cases of Clavien III. Functional outcomes were similar at 12 month and became in favor of Group A over time. These data are satisfactory with a Qmax improvement of 111.7% and an IPSS reduction of 69.5% in older patients. DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSIONS: GreenLight laser photoselective vaporization of the prostate is a safe and efficient procedure for all patients, despite their age, with comparable outcomes and an equal safety profile.

RESUMO

l-tryptophan (Trp), an essential amino acid for mammals, is the precursor of a wide array of immunomodulatory metabolites produced by the kynurenine and serotonin pathways. The kynurenine pathway is a paramount source of several immunoregulatory metabolites, including l-kynurenine (Kyn), the main product of indoleamine 2,3-dioxygenase 1 (IDO1) that catalyzes the rate-limiting step of the pathway. In the serotonin pathway, the metabolite N-acetylserotonin (NAS) has been shown to possess antioxidant, antiinflammatory, and neuroprotective properties in experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis (EAE), an animal model of multiple sclerosis (MS). However, little is known about the exact mode of action of the serotonin metabolite and the possible interplay between the 2 Trp metabolic pathways. Prompted by the discovery that NAS neuroprotective effects in EAE are abrogated in mice lacking IDO1 expression, we investigated the NAS mode of action in neuroinflammation. We found that NAS directly binds IDO1 and acts as a positive allosteric modulator (PAM) of the IDO1 enzyme in vitro and in vivo. As a result, increased Kyn will activate the ligand-activated transcription factor aryl hydrocarbon receptor and, consequently, antiinflammatory and immunoregulatory effects. Because NAS also increased IDO1 activity in peripheral blood mononuclear cells of a significant proportion of MS patients, our data may set the basis for the development of IDO1 PAMs as first-in-class drugs in autoimmune/neuroinflammatory diseases.

Recent works show that glass-forming liquids display Fickian non-Gaussian Diffusion, with non-Gaussian displacement distributions persisting even at very long times, when linearity in the mean square displacement (Fickianity) has already been attained. Such non-Gaussian deviations temporarily exhibit distinctive exponential tails, with a decay length λ growing in time as a power-law. We herein carefully examine data from four different glass-forming systems with isotropic interactions, both in two and three dimensions, namely, three numerical models of molecular liquids and one experimentally investigated colloidal suspension. Drawing on the identification of a proper time range for reliable exponential fits, we find that a scaling law λ(t)∝tα, with α≃1/3, holds for all considered systems, independently from dimensionality. We further show that, for each system, data at different temperatures/concentration can be collapsed onto a master-curve, identifying a characteristic time for the disappearance of exponential tails and the recovery of Gaussianity. We find that such characteristic time is always related through a power-law to the onset time of Fickianity. The present findings suggest that FnGD in glass-formers may be characterized by a "universal" evolution of the distribution tails, independent from system dimensionality, at least for liquids with isotropic potential.

PURPOSE: Overweight and obesity affects 60% of adults causing more than 1.2 million deaths across world every year. Fight against involved different specialist figures and multiple are the approved weapons. Aim of the present survey endorsed by the Italian Society of Bariatric Surgery (SICOB) is to reach a national consensus on obesity treatment optimization through a Delphi process. METHODS: Eleven key opinion leaders (KOLs) identified 22 statements with a major need of clarification and debate. The explored pathways were: (1) Management of patient candidate to bariatric/metabolic surgery (BMS); (2) Management of patient not eligible for BMS; (3) Management of patient with short-term (2 years) weight regain (WR) or insufficient weight loss (IWL); (4) Management of the patient with medium-term (5 years) WR; and (5) Association between drugs and BMS as WR prevention. The questionnaire was distributed to 65 national experts via an online platform with anonymized results. RESULTS: 54 out of 65 invited panelists (83%) respond. Positive consensus was reached for 18/22 statements (82%); while, negative consensus (s20.4; s21.5) and no consensus (s11.5, s17) were reached for 2 statements, respectively (9%). CONCLUSION: The Delphi results underline the importance of first-line interdisciplinary management, with large pre-treatment examination, and establish a common opinion on how to properly manage post-operative IWL/WR. BACKGROUND: Cardiovascular impairment contributes to increased mortality in preterm infants with chronic lung disease. Macitentan, an endothelin-1 receptor antagonist, has the potential to attenuate pulmonary and cardiovascular remodelling. METHODS: In a prospective randomized placebo-controlled intervention trial, Sprague-Dawley rats were exposed to 0.21 or 1.0 fraction of inspired oxygen (FiO2) for 19 postnatal days. Rats were treated via gavage with placebo or macitentan from days of life 5 to 19. Alveoli, pulmonary vessels, α-smooth muscle actin content in pulmonary arterioles, size of cardiomyocytes, right to left ventricular wall diameter ratio, and endothelin-1 plasma concentrations were assessed. RESULTS: FiO2 1.0 induced typical features of chronic lung disease with significant alveolar enlargement (p = 0.012), alveolar (p = 0.048) and pulmonary vessel rarefaction (p = 0.024), higher α-smooth muscle actin content in pulmonary arterioles (p = 0.009), higher right to left ventricular wall diameter ratio (p = 0.02), and larger cardiomyocyte cross-sectional area (p < 0.001). Macitentan treatment significantly increased pulmonary vessel count (p = 0.004) and decreased right to left ventricular wall diameter ratios (p = 0.002). Endothelin-1 plasma concentrations were higher compared to placebo (p = 0.015). Alveolar number and size, α-smooth muscle actin, and the cardiomyocyte cross-sectional area remained unchanged (all p > 0.05). CONCLUSION: The endothelin-1 receptor antagonist macitentan attenuated cardiovascular remodelling in an infant rat model for preterm chronic lung disease. This study underscores the potential of macitentan to reduce cardiovascular morbidity in preterm infants with chronic lung disease.

Fickian yet non-Gaussian diffusion (FnGD), a most intriguing open issue in soft matter, is generically associated with some dynamical and/or structural heterogeneity of the environment. Here we investigate the features of FnGD in glass-forming liquids, the epitome of dynamical heterogeneity, drawing on experiments on hard-sphere colloidal suspensions and simulations of a simple model of molecular liquid. We demonstrate that FnGD strengthens on approaching the glass transition, by identifying distinct timescales for Fickianity, τ_{F}, and for restoring of Gaussianity, τ_{G}>τ_{F}, as well as their associated length scales, ξ_{F} and ξ_{G}. We find τ_{G}∝τ_{F}^{γ} with γ≃1.8 for both systems. In the deep FnGD regime, the displacement distributions display exponential tails. We show that, in simulations, the time-dependent decay lengths l(t) at different temperatures all collapse onto a power-law master curve [l(t)/(ξ_{G})]∝(t/τ_{G})^{α}, with α=0.33. A similar collapse, if less sharp, is also found in experiments, seemingly with the same exponent α. We further discuss the connections of the timescales and length scales characterizing FnGD with structural relaxation and dynamic heterogeneity.

Knowledge of a protein's spatial dynamics at the subcellular level is key to understanding its function(s), interactions, and associated intracellular events. Indoleamine 2,3-dioxygenase 1 (IDO1) is a cytosolic enzyme that controls immune responses via tryptophan metabolism, mainly through its enzymic activity. When phosphorylated, however, IDO1 acts as a signaling molecule in plasmacytoid dendritic cells (pDCs), thus activating genomic effects, ultimately leading to long-lasting immunosuppression. Whether the two activities-namely, the catalytic and signaling functions-are spatially segregated has been unclear. We found that, under conditions favoring signaling rather than catabolic events, IDO1 shifts from the cytosol to early endosomes. The event requires interaction with class IA phosphoinositide 3-kinases (PI3Ks), which become activated, resulting in full expression of the immunoregulatory phenotype in vivo in pDCs as resulting from IDO1-dependent signaling events. Thus, IDO1's spatial dynamics meet the needs for short-acting as well as durable mechanisms of immune suppression, both under acute and chronic inflammatory conditions. These data expand the theoretical basis for an IDO1-centered therapy in inflammation and autoimmunity.

Fickian yet non-Gaussian Diffusion (FnGD), widely observed for colloidal particles in a variety of complex and biological fluids, emerges as a most intriguing open issue in Soft Matter. To fully monitor FnGD and advance its understanding, recording many trajectories over a large time range is crucial, which makes experiments challenging. Here we exploit a recently introduced experimental model of finely tunable FnGD: a quasi-2d system of Brownian beads in water moving in a heterogeneous energy landscape generated by a static and spatially random optical force field (speckle pattern). By performing experiments at different optical power, we succeed in monitoring the evolution as well as the precursors of FnGD. Fickian scaling of the mean square displacement is always attained after a subdiffusive regime while the displacement distributions keep on being non-Gaussian, which allows for measuring a characteristic length- and time-scale for the onset of FnGD, ξf and tf. We find that ξf stays constant, whereas tf grows as the inverse of the long-time diffusion coefficient tf ∝ D-1 for increasing the optical power. Deviations from the standard Gaussian shape of the displacement distribution are neatly characterized on a broad range of times, focusing on the excess probability at small displacements and on the decay-length of the distinctive exponential tails. Such deviations are fully built in the subdiffusive regime and, at the FnGD onset, grow with the optical power. As time goes on, the small-displacement probability narrows and the exponential tails progressively break up, with a tendency to recover the Gaussian behaviour. Overall, both subdiffusion and FnGD become more marked and persistent on increasing the optical power, suggesting a strict relation between these two regimes. As clearly demonstrated by our results, the adopted model-system represents a privileged stage for in-depth study of FnGD and opens the way to unveil the nature of this phenomenon through finely tuned and well-controlled experiments.

On approaching the glass transition, a dense colloid exhibits a dramatic slowdown with minute structural changes. Most microscopy experiments directly follow the motion of individual particles in real space, whereas scattering experiments typically probe the collective dynamics in reciprocal space at variable wavevector q. Multiscale studies of glassy dynamics are experimentally demanding and, thus, seldom performed. By using two-dimensional hard-sphere colloids at various area fractions ϕ, we show here that Differential Dynamic Microscopy (DDM) can be effectively used to measure the collective dynamics of a glassy colloid in a range of q within a single experiment. As ϕ is increased, the single decay of the intermediate scattering functions is progressively replaced by a more complex relaxation that we fit to a sum of two stretched-exponential decays. The slowest process, corresponding to the long-time particle escapes from caging, has a characteristic time τs = 1/(DLq2) with diffusion coefficient DL∼(ϕc-ϕ)2.8, and ϕc ≃ 0.81. The fast process exhibits, instead, a non-Brownian scaling of the characteristic time τf(q) and a relative amplitude a(q) that monotonically increases with q. Despite the non-Brownian nature of τf(q), we succeed in estimating the short-time diffusion coefficient Dcage, whose ϕ-dependence is practically negligible compared to the one of DL. Finally, we extend DDM to measure the q-dependent dynamical susceptibility χ4(q, t), a powerful yet hard-to-access multiscale indicator of dynamical heterogeneities. Our results show that DDM is a convenient tool to study the dynamics of colloidal glasses over a broad range of time and length scales.

PURPOSE: Biliopancreatic diversion with duodenal switch and single anastomosis duodenal-ileal bypass with sleeve gastrectomy (SADI-S) are technically demanding hypo-absorptive bariatric procedures generally indicated in super-obese patients (BMI ≥ 50 kg/m2). Data from the literature prove the procedure to be safe and effective, with promising bariatric and metabolic effects. Anyway, international societies support the creation of multicentric national and international registries to obtain more homogeneous data over the long period. We aimed to report our experience with this procedure. METHODS: Among 2313 patients who underwent bariatric procedures at our institution, between July 2016 and August 2021, 121 (5.2%) consenting patients were scheduled for SADI-S as primary (SADIS) or revisional procedure after sleeve gastrectomy (SADI) (respectively 87 and 34 patients). Early and late post-operative complications, operative time, post-operative stay, and follow-up data were analyzed. RESULTS: Overall, the median preoperative BMI was 52.3 (48.75-57.05) kg/m2 with a median age of 44 (39-51) years, the median operative time was 120 (100-155) min. Complications at 30th-day post-op were registered in 4 (3.3%) patients and late complications in 4 (3.3%) patients. At a median follow-up of 31 (14-39) months, the median percentage excess weight loss was 79.8 (55.15-91.45)%, and the median total weight loss was 57.0650 (43.3925-71.3475)%. CONCLUSION: Our data, coherently with the literature, confirm that SADI-S is a safe, effective procedure with acceptable complications rate. Larger studies with longer follow-ups are necessary to draw definitive conclusions.

A dual-band linear-to-circular planar polarization converter based on a multilayer printed circuit board (PCB) is proposed and demonstrated. Each cell of the periodic surface is formed by six substrate layers separated by five foam spacers. The three top layers are identical and contain an 'I'-type strip, while the three layers on the bottom side are realized with three identical Jerusalem crosses (JC). A linearly polarized (LP) wave tilted 45° relative to the x- and y-axis of the converter is used to illuminate the polarizer. In this configuration, right-handed circularly polarized (RHCP) waves are generated at the Ka-band while left-handed circularly polarized (LHCP) waves are generated at the K-band. An equivalent circuit model based on transmission lines is proposed and used to design the polarizer together with full-wave simulations. The simulated/measured axial ratio (AR) remains below 3 dB in the bands 19.4-21.8 GHz (12.5%) and 27.9-30.5 GHz (8.7%) with an insertion loss better than 0.5 dB.

Glass transition is a most intriguing and long-standing open issue in the field of molecular liquids. From a macroscopic perspective, glass-forming systems display a dramatic slowing-down of the dynamics, with the inverse diffusion coefficient and the structural relaxation times increasing by orders of magnitude upon even modest supercooling. At the microscopic level, single-molecule motion becomes strongly intermittent, and can be conveniently described in terms of "cage-jump" events. In this work, we investigate a paradigmatic glass-forming liquid, the Kob-Andersen Lennard-Jones model, by means of Molecular Dynamics simulations, and compare the macroscopic and microscopic descriptions of its dynamics on approaching the glass-transition. We find that clear changes in the relations between macroscopic timescales and cage-jump quantities occur at the crossover temperature where Mode Coupling-like description starts failing. In fact, Continuous Time Random Walk and lattice model predictions based on cage-jump statistics are also violated below the crossover temperature, suggesting the onset of a qualitative change in cage-jump motion. Interestingly, we show that a fully microscopic relation linking cage-jump time- and length-scales instead holds throughout the investigated temperature range.

Rats are often used in ventilator-induced lung injury (VILI) models. However, strain-specific susceptibility for VILI has not been elucidated yet. The aim of this study was to demonstrate strain-specific differences in VILI in infant Sprague-Dawley and Wistar rats. VILI was compared in 2-wk-old pups after 8 h of protective or injurious ventilation. Pups were ventilated with tidal volumes (VT) of ∼7 mL/kg and positive end-expiratory pressures (PEEP) of 6 cmH2O (VT7 PEEP6) or with VT of ∼21 mL/kg and PEEP 2 cmH2O (VT21 PEEP2). Interleukin-6, macrophage inflammatory protein-2 (MIP-2), inflammatory cells, and albumin in bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF); histology; and low-frequency forced oscillation technique (LFOT) and pressure-volume (PV) maneuvers were assessed. Alveolar macrophages, neutrophils, and MIP-2 derived from BALF revealed more pronounced VILI after VT21 PEEP2 in both strains. LFOT and PV analyses demonstrated rat strain-specific differences both at baseline and particularly in response to VT21 PEEP2 ventilation. Sprague-Dawley rats showed higher airway and tissue resistance and elastance values with no difference in hysteresivity between ventilation strategies. Wister rats challenged by VT21 PEEP2 experienced significantly more energy dissipation when compared with VT7 PEEP6 ventilation. In conclusion, both rat strains are useful for VILI models. The degree of VILI severity depends on ventilation strategy and selected strain. However, fundamental and time-dependent differences in respiratory system mechanics exist and reflect different lung tissue viscoelasticity. Hence, strain-specific characteristics of the respiratory system need to be considered when planning and interpreting VILI studies with infant rats.

The recently discovered Fickian yet non-Gaussian diffusion (FnGD) is here finely tuned and investigated over a wide range of probabilities and timescales using a quasi-2D suspension of colloidal beads under the action of a static and spatially random optical force field. This experimental model allows one to demonstrate that a "rapid" FnGD regime with a diffusivity close to that of free suspension can originate from earlier subdiffusion. We show that these two regimes are strictly tangled: as subdiffusion deepens upon increasing the optical force, deviations from Gaussianity in the FnGD regime become larger and more persistent in time. In addition, the distinctive exponential tails of FnGD are quickly built up in the subdiffusive regime. Our results shed new light on previous experimental observations and suggest that FnGD may generally be a memory effect of earlier subdiffusive processes.

OBJECTIVE: To describe the trend in surgical volume in urology in Italy during the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) outbreak, as a result of the abrupt reorganisation of the Italian national health system to augment care provision to symptomatic patients with COVID-19. METHODS: A total of 33 urological units with physicians affiliated to the AGILE consortium (Italian Group for Advanced Laparo-Endoscopic Surgery; www.agilegroup.it) were surveyed. Urologists were asked to report the amount of surgical elective procedures week-by-week, from the beginning of the emergency to the following month. RESULTS: The 33 hospitals involved in the study account overall for 22 945 beds and are distributed in 13/20 Italian regions. Before the outbreak, the involved urology units performed overall 1213 procedures/week, half of which were oncological. A month later, the number of surgeries had declined by 78%. Lombardy, the first region with positive COVID-19 cases, experienced a 94% reduction. The decrease in oncological and non-oncological surgical activity was 35.9% and 89%, respectively. The trend of the decline showed a delay of roughly 2 weeks for the other regions. CONCLUSION: Italy, a country with a high fatality rate from COVID-19, experienced a sudden decline in surgical activity. This decline was inversely related to the increase in COVID-19 care, with potential harm particularly in the oncological field. The Italian experience may be helpful for future surgical pre-planning in other countries not so drastically affected by the disease to date.

The behavior of ionic liquids (ILs) at charged interfaces is pivotal for their application in supercapacitors and electrochemical cells. Recently, we demonstrated for neat ILs that potential screening at polarized electrode interfaces shows a characteristic voltage dependence, as determined in situ by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. Herein, we use this fingerprint-type behavior to characterize the nature of the IL/electrode interfaces for IL mixtures of [C8C1Im][Tf2N] and [C8C1Im]Cl on Au and Pt electrodes. For Au, the IL/electrode interfaces are dominated by the Cl- anions, even down to a 0.1 mol% [C8C1Im]Cl content. In contrast, [Tf2N]- anions enrich at the IL/Pt electrode interfaces down to 10 mol% [C8C1Im][Tf2N]; only at lower concentrations does a transition to Cl- enrichment occur. These mixture studies demonstrate that even small concentrations of another IL or contamination, e.g. remaining from synthesis, can strongly influence the situation at charged IL interfaces.

The objective of the current research was to explore the potential prognostic value of readily available clinical and pathologic variables in bladder cancer. The novel association found between cholesterol levels and prognosis may provide the rationale for exploring novel treatments. Patients included had histologically confirmed urothelial bladder cancer and were treated with at least 3 cycles of cisplatin-based neoadjuvant chemotherapy before radical cystectomy with lymphadenectomy. A total of 245 patients at low, intermediate and high risk, presenting with 0-1, 2 or 3-4 risk factors, including positive lymph nodes, Hb <12.8, NLR ≥2.7 and cholesterol levels ≥199, were included. Five-year cancer-specific survival rate was 0.67, 0.78 and 0.94 at high, intermediate and low risk, respectively. Total cholesterol levels at the time of cystectomy may represent a commonly assessable prognostic factor and may be incorporated in a clinically meaningful risk-group classification model.


Lay abstract This present study assessed a large group of patients with urothelial bladder cancer treated with chemotherapy followed by radical cystectomy, to capture the predictive power of commonly collected clinical, pathological and biochemical factors. The design of the study highlighted that higher cholesterol levels at the time of cystectomy were associated with shorter cancer-specific survival. This finding suggests that high blood-cholesterol levels truly have a negative influence on surviving cancer. In conclusion, total cholesterol levels at the time of cystectomy may represent a commonly assessable prognostic factor and could be incorporated into a clinically meaningful and valuable risk-group classification model.

The breakdown of the Stokes-Einstein relation in supercooled liquids, which is the increase in the ratio τατD between the two macroscopic times for structural relaxation and diffusion on decreasing the temperature, is commonly ascribed to dynamic heterogeneities, but a clear-cut microscopic interpretation is still lacking. Here, we tackle this issue exploiting the single-particle cage-jump framework to analyze molecular dynamics simulations of soft disk assemblies and supercooled water. We find that τατD∝⟨tp⟩⟨tc⟩, where ⟨tp⟩ and ⟨tc⟩ are the cage-jump times characterizing slow and fast particles, respectively. We further clarify that this scaling does not arise from a simple term-by-term proportionality; rather, the relations τα∝⟨tp⟩⟨ΔrJ 2⟩ and τD∝⟨tc⟩⟨ΔrJ 2⟩ effectively connect the macroscopic and microscopic timescales, with the mean square jump length ⟨ΔrJ 2⟩ shrinking on cooling. Our work provides a microscopic perspective on the Stokes-Einstein breakdown and generalizes previous results on lattice models to the case of more realistic glass-formers.

The development of dry, ultra-conformable and unperceivable temporary tattoo electrodes (TTEs), based on the ink-jet printing of poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) polystyrene sulfonate (PEDOT:PSS) on top of commercially available temporary tattoo paper, has gained increasing attention as a new and promising technology for electrophysiological recordings on skin. In this work, we present a TTEs epidermal sensor for real time monitoring of respiration through transthoracic impedance measurements, exploiting a new design, based on the application of soft screen printed Ag ink and magnetic interlink, that guarantees a repositionable, long-term stable and robust interconnection of TTEs with external "docking" devices. The efficiency of the TTE and the proposed interconnection strategy under stretching (up to 10%) and over time (up to 96 h) has been verified on a dedicated experimental setup and on humans, fulfilling the proposed specific application of transthoracic impedance measurements. The proposed approach makes this technology suitable for large-scale production and suitable not only for the specific use case presented, but also for real time monitoring of different bio-electric signals, as demonstrated through specific proof of concept demonstrators.
