RESUMO

The Health Care Systems in Transition (HiT) profiles are country-based reports that provide an analytical description of a health care system and of reform initiatives in progress or under development. HiTs seek to provide relevant comparative information to support policy-makers and analysts in the development of health care systems and reforms in the countries of the European Region and beyond. The HiT profiles are building blocks that can be used: to learn in detail about different approaches to the organization, financing and delivery of health services; to describe the process, content and implementation of health care reform programmes; to highlight challenges and areas that require more in-depth analysis; and to provide a tool for the dissemination of information on health care systems and the exchange of experiences of reform strategies between policy-makers and analysts in different countries. This series is an ongoing initiative and material is updated at regular intervals.

RESUMO

Monitoring the progress made towards achieving health-related Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) depends on the availability of data on the associated indicators and on the quality of that data. This report provides an assessment of the current situation regarding the availability of data required to produce the health-related MDG indicators in the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS). It also discusses common and country-specific problems of the national health information systems as related to their capacities to produce the data required for the MDG indicators. The report was prepared for and presented as a background paper at the Meeting on MDG-related and other health indicators in the Commonwealth of Independent States, Almaty, Kazakhstan, 28-30 September 2005, organized by the WHO Regional Office for Europe within the framework of the CARINFONET Project
