In recent years, there has been an increase in the delivery and evaluation of parent education programs within youth sport. Subsequently, some recent reviews of these programs have been conducted. However, one consistent issue across many of the programs and associated review papers is the lack of an appropriate evaluation framework to guide the planning or associated reporting of the outcomes of the interventions. This has limited understanding of the overall impact of sport parenting interventions. Thus, the purposes of the current study were as follows: (a) to identify commonalities in the reporting and evaluation of parent education programs; (b) to identify gaps in the reporting and evaluation of parent education programs; (c) to draw these insights together to provide suggestions regarding how the RE-AIM could be used to enhance planning and evaluation of evidence-based programs for parent education in sport. Specifically, utilizing the RE-AIM framework to provide insights into pertinent evaluation metrics, this integrative review aimed to identify commonalities and gaps in the reporting of parent education programs. The RE-AIM framework considers the essential elements to assess the external and internal validity of interventions through five dimensions: Reach, Effectiveness, Adoption, Implementation, and Maintenance (Am J Public Health. 1999;89(9):1322-1327). Subsequently, the review aimed to provide suggestions regarding strategies to enhance the planning and evaluation of evidence-based programs for parent education in sport. Overall, the analysis demonstrated that most studies presented some pertinent evaluation information related to the RE-AIM framework, such as the number of participants and contacts made, the measures used, and the program level. However, the studies also lacked information on participant exclusion criteria, the method used to select the delivery agent (e.g., parents engaged in the program), and cost measures. Overall, the current study identified various areas where programs could be enhanced, specifically related to reporting procedural elements (e.g., program design, target population, and costs) pertaining to the implementation of parent education programs.

RESUMO

The purpose of this study was to examine former Brazilian high-performance volleyball athletes' perspectives on life skills learning and transfer through their experiences in sport. This qualitative study involved a narrative approach through composite vignettes. The creation of the composite vignettes included the most relevant life events and participants' perspectives through their accounts of the experience transformed in one unique voice. Participants were five former Brazilian high-performance volleyball athletes. Data were collected through rappaport timeline and semi-structured interviews. Findings showed athletes were able to learn and transfer life skills throughout their careers and later in life through an implicit approach to life skills development and transfer. The trials and tribulations of high-performance sport were, in these cases, used as life lessons that transformed into life skills used in athletes' lives beyond sport. Moving forward, more research is needed to understand the high-performance sport's role in life skills transfer and its implication for athletes' development across socio-cultural contexts.

RESUMO

Positive youth development is a popular guiding framework for studying the psychosocial development of youth. In sport research, for more than two decades, this framework has enhanced our understanding of the mechanisms involved in successful shifts from youth to adulthood. Nonetheless, scholars have recently taken a more critical stance on the positive youth development framework by elucidating some of its shortcomings. To help determine whether it may be warranted to plan for a transition from the positive youth development framework in sport research, a critical commentary is offered. The purpose of this commentary lies in situating three ontologically distinct arguments that depict the shortcomings of the positive youth development framework, namely the operationalization argument, the social justice argument, and the posthumanist argument. This paper is offered as an open invitation to instigate dialogue on what may come next for youth development in sport research and whether planning for a transition is warranted.

Introduction: Creativity is a recognized quality in various areas, including sports. Within the training processes, various modifications to objectives, game configurations, rules, among other factors, can be considered to favor creative solutions to the tactical problems inherent to soccer. This systematic review aimed to identify the impact of the number of players on the emergence of creative movements in small-sided soccer games, emphasizing deliberate practice. Methods: A systematic review of Scopus, PubMed, Scielo, PsycInfo, SportDiscus and Lilacs databases was performed according to PRISMA guidelines. Eligibility criteria were defined based on the elements of population, context and concept. Only full articles published in scientific journals written in English were included. No period restriction was applied. Results: Five papers were included and the results of studies indicate greater number of actions, variability, and creativity in small-sided games compared to formal soccer matches. When comparing different small-sided game formats, 5 v 5 showed higher values in terms of total number of actions compared to 7 v 7, and the absolute number of original and creative actions tended to decrease as the game format increased. Imbalanced small-sided games format can promote increased exploratory behavior. Structural manipulation in goal positioning in 5 v 5 games may also influence the originality of tactical behaviors, while the use of different ball types in 4 v 4 games appears to decrease fluency values. In 6 v 6 games, fluency and versatility are negatively impacted. Conclusion: Reduced game formats with fewer players and in smaller field dimensions provide more suggestive environment for exploratory behavior, variability and original and creative actions. In this study, we examined the probability of coaches' survival in the top Brazilian professional football championship considering variation across the competitive seasons between 2012 and 2017, considering a multilevel framework. We also considered whether previous coaching experience in the top Brazilian professional football championship would change the probability of coaches' survival across the season. The data considered 4,560 games from the top professional Brazilian football league (Campeonato Brasileiro Série A) between the 2012 and 2017 seasons. At the start of each season, the coach from each team was followed, being recorded at the time the event occurred, i.e., the coach being sacked. A total survival of 120 coaches was considered between the seasons of 2012 and 2017, i.e., 20 coaches at the beginning of each season. Coaches were assigned as novice (no previous experience as head coach in the top Brazilian championship) or experienced (with at least some previous experience as head coach in the top Brazilian championship). Data were available and extracted from the official website of the Brazilian Football Confederation. On average and considering un-pooled observations, the median life of a coach was about 16.5 rounds. Considering variation between 2012 and 2017 seasons, only about 26.3% (95% CI: 18.2-36.1) of the coaches ended a season without being sacked. By mid-season, at round 19, the probability of coaches' survival was 0.42 (95% CI: 0.32-0.53). Variation between season on survival estimates per round was substantial (between-season standard deviation = 0.48, 95% credible intervals: 0.25-0.95; corresponding to an inverse logit = 0.62, 95% CI: 0.56-0.72). There was no substantial variation between novice and experienced coaches' survival probability. The present results expose the vulnerability of the coaching context in Brazilian football, potentially highlighting an excessive emphasis on short-term results to mediate club management decisions.

RESUMO

Treinadores esportivos eficazes são àqueles que refletem. Assim, a aprendizagem da reflexão apresenta-se enquanto necessária e, igualmente, desafiadora a quem aprende e ensina, em especial no contexto de ensino superior brasileiro, caracterizado pela lógica do acúmulo de conhecimentos, tendo como padrão o ensino prescritivo. Entretanto, o estágio pode ser concebido enquanto ambiente potencial à aprendizagem, tendo em vista o componente da experiência, necessário aos processos reflexivos. Este ensaio teórico objetivou, com isso, apresentar dois guias conceituais à compreensão e organização de processos de ensino da reflexão na aprendizagem de estudantes-treinadores nos contextos de estágios. Entendemos que os guias apresentados trazem subsídios necessários para docentes que visam fomentar o desenvolvimento de treinadores reflexivos em seus ambientes de formação. (AU)


Effective sports coaches are for those who reflect. Thus, the learning of reflection presents itself as necessary and, equally, challenging for those who learn and teach, especially in the context of Brazilian higher education, characterized by the logic of accumulating knowledge, having prescriptive teaching as a standard. However, the internship can be conceived as a potential environment for learning, in view of the experience component, which is fundamental to reflective processes. This theoretical essay aimed, therefore, to present two conceptual guides to the understanding and organization of teaching processes of reflection in the learning of student-coaches in internships contexts. We understand that the guides presented bring necessary subsidies for teachers who aim to foster the development of reflective coaches in their training environments. (AU)


Los entrenadores deportivos eficaz son para los que reflexionan. Así, el aprendizaje de la reflexión se presenta como necesario e, igualmente, desafiante para quien aprende y enseña, especialmente en el contexto de la educación superior brasileña, caracterizada por la lógica de acumulación de conocimientos, teniendo como norma la enseñanza prescriptiva. Sin embargo, la pasantía puede ser concebida como un ambiente potencial para el aprendizaje, en vista del componente de experiencia, que es fundamental para los procesos reflexivos. Este ensayo teórico tuvo como objetivo, por lo tanto, presentar dos guías conceptuales para la comprensión y organización de los procesos de enseñanza de la reflexión en el aprendizaje de los estudiantes-entrenadores en contextos de prácticas. Entendemos que las guías presentadas traen subsidios necesarios para los docentes que pretenden fomentar el desarrollo de entrenadores reflexivos en sus entornos de formación. (AU)

A presença dos pais em ambientes esportivos é apontada como de grande influência na participação esportiva dos filhos. Contudo, mais do que intervir na trajetória dos filhos, os pais precisam lidar com demandas específicas do esporte que, ao mesmo tempo, influenciam diretamente a maneira como genitores oferecem suporte. Embora a agenda investigativa internacional ofereça contribuições sobre o envolvimento parental, as evidências ainda são pouco sistematizadas no cenário de investigação esportiva nacional. Diante do exposto, o objetivo foi apresentar o papel da família e dos pais como parte de um sistema esportivo integrado baseados na mútua influência dos indivíduos.


The presence of parents in sporting environments is pointed out as having a significant influence on the sport participation of their children. However, more than influencing the trajectory of their children, parents need to deal with specific demands of sports that, at the same time, directly affect how they offer support. Although the international research agenda contributes to parental development, the evidence is still little systematized in the national sports research scenario. Given the above, the aim was to present the role of family and parents as part of an integrated sport system based on the mutual influence of individuals.


Se señala que la presencia de los padres en entornos deportivos tiene una gran influencia en la participación deportiva de sus hijos. Sin embargo, más que influir en la trayectoria de sus hijos, los padres necesitan lidiar con demandas específicas del deporte que, al mismo tiempo, influyen directamente en la forma en que ofrecen apoyo. Aunque la agenda investigativa internacional ofrezca contribuciones sobre el desarrollo parental, las evidencias aún están poco sistematizadas en el escenario de la investigación deportiva nacional. Teniendo en cuenta lo anterior, el objetivo fue presentar el papel de la familia y los padres como parte de un sistema deportivo integrado basado en la influencia mutua de los individuos.

O objetivo do estudo foi investigar as experiências que contribuíram para a ascensão de uma treinadora brasileira de tênis no alto rendimento. Para isso, esta pesquisa descritiva de abordagem qualitativa foi orientada por meio de um estudo de caso único. No momento do estudo, Fernanda tinha 30 anos de idade e 12 anos de experiência como treinadora em nível nacional e internacional. Enquanto estratégias para a coleta dos dados, foram utilizados nesta ordem: a Rappaport timeline e a entrevista semiestruturada. A análise desses dados foi conduzida por meio das orientações da análise temática reflexiva. Os resultados versam pelos seguintes temas: (a) Influência, Conexão e Inspiração: Personagens Fundamentais; (b) Perfil Promissor e Acolhimento no Contexto; e (c) Desenvolvimento Enquanto Treinadora: Os Constantes Aprendizados e Questionamentos no Percurso. De modo geral, Fernanda teve uma trajetória orientada por relações de influência com personagens de seu contexto. Os momentos fora de sua zona de conforto contribuíram para a definição de estratégias que visem suprir as necessidades e avançar perante as barreiras identificadas.(AU)


This study aimed to identify and analyze the content developed in competitive Rhythmic Gymnastics (RG) sports initiation. We interviewed six coaches who worked in basic categories of medalist clubs in the 2019 Brazilian RG Championships. From the thematic analysis, five themes emerged: (1) Specialize versus Expand: factors that limit and contribute to physical-motor development in RG sports initiation; (2) Body positioning is a "rule" in RG; (3) Body difficulties: training to learn or training to compete?; (4) From an accessory element to an essential element: the valorization of RG's apparatus; (5) Within the rules and outside of training: The artistic component in RG. We suggest that the content must respect gymnasts' characteristics, their health, long-term training, and their integral development. As they are children, results would not be a priority at this stage, and the content should be established based on the RG's future vision.(AU)


El objetivo de este estudio ha sido identificar y analizar el contenido desarrollado en la iniciación deportiva competitiva de la Gimnasia Rítmica (GR). Entrevistamos a seis entrenadoras de las categorías de base de instituciones medallistas en al menos una categoría de los Campeonatos Brasileños de GR 2019. A través del análisis temático emergieron cinco temas: (1) Especializar versus ampliar: Factores que limitan y contribuyen al desarrollo físico-motor en la iniciación deportiva de la GR; (2) Posicionamiento corporal es "regla" en la GR; (3) Dificultades corporales: ¿entrenar para aprender o entrenar para competir?; (4) De elemento accesorio a elemento esencial: la valorización los aparatos de GR; (5) Dentro de las reglas y fuera del entrenamiento: el componente artístico en la GR. Sugerimos que el contenido respete las características, la salud, formación a largo plazo y desarrollo integral de las gimnastas. Al tratarse de niñas, los resultados no serían prioridad en esta etapa y el contenido debería apoyarse en la visión de futuro de la modalidad.(AU)

RESUMO O objetivo deste estudo foi analisar as concepções e princípios de prática de liderança de treinadores de alta performance do futebol brasileiro. Participaram do estudo, por meio de entrevistas semiestruturadas, cinco treinadores de futebol masculino que já atuaram na 1ª divisão brasileira, conquistando títulos estaduais e nacionais e com experiência em equipes e seleções estrangeiras. As principais evidências apontam para competências gerais, estratégias de gestão, conhecimento profissional, princípios e valores individuais. Conclui-se que os treinadores possuem conhecimento processual tácito instintivo que resulta numa filosofia de liderança desconexa e competências interpessoais mais evidentes. Sugere-se que os treinadores utilizem o modelo trifásico de eficácia de liderança e a prática da reflexão sistematiza de forma a potenciarem a sua eficácia de liderança.


ABSTRACT The aim of this study was to analyze the conceptions and leadership principles of high-performance coaches in Brazilian soccer. Participants were five male soccer coaches who have worked in the Brazilian first division, winning state and national titles, and having experience in international teams. Semi-structured interviews were performed. Main evidences show several competencies, management strategies, professional knowledge, principles, and personal values. We concluded that the coaches have tacit instinctive procedural knowledge that results in a disconnected leadership philosophy and interpersonal knowledge more evident. It is suggested that coaches use the three-phase leadership model and the practice of systematic reflection in order to enhance their leadership effectiveness.

abstract This study aimed (1) to verify the relationship between the JIF, Eigenfactor, Citescore and SJR metrics of Physical Education journals throughout Qualis 2013-2016; and (2) to analyze their associations with the field-concerned Web-Qualis grades (based on the 2013-2016 quadrennium criteria). WebQualis grades, which refers to 2015-2018 data, were acquired by accessing officially available data. The scientometrics Journal Impact Factor (JIF), Citescore, Eigenfactor, and Scimago Journal Rank (SJR) for the years 2013 to 2016 and 2018 were extracted from official Clarivate Analytics and Elsevier sources. Approximately half of Physical Education journals included in the 2018 WebQualis database were indexed in Web of Science Collection and Scopus databases. The main results demonstrated high and stable appeared bivariate correlations between all scientometrics from 2013 to 2016. Both JIF, Eigenfactor, Citescore and SJR were associated with WebQualis grades. However, better adjustment of parameters was observed in the model that included SJR as the WebQualis predictor. The field normalized SJR appeared to better predict the WebQualis defined by the 2013-2016 Qualis criteria, which includes the adherence indicator. If researchers consider that distinct research areas are not equally weighted and require specific evaluation, as the authors suggest, use the normalized metrics to classify journals in Brazilian scenarium.


resumo O objetivo deste estudo foi verificar a relação entre as métricas JIF, Eigenfactor, Citescore e SJR de periódicos de Educação Física ao longo do Qualis 2013-2016; e (2) analisar suas associações com as classificações do Web-Qualis (critério de classificação do quadriênio 2013-2016). As classificações do WebQualis, referentes aos dados de 2015-2018, foram adquiridas acessando fontes de dados oficiais. As métricas Journal Impact Factor (JIF), Citescore, Eigenfactor e Scimago Journal Rank (SJR) para os anos de 2013 a 2016 e 2018 foram extraídas de fontes oficiais da Clarivate Analytics e Elsevier. Aproximadamente metade dos periódicos de Educação Física incluídos no banco de dados WebQualis de 2018 foram indexados nos bancos de dados Web of Science Collection e Scopus. Os principais resultados demonstram altas e estáveis correlações bivariadas entre todas as métricas ​​de 2013 a 2016. Ambos o JIF, o Eigenfactor, o Citigenore e o SJR foram associados à classificação do WebQualis. No entanto, melhores parâmetros de ajuste foram observados no modelo que incluiu a SJR como preditor do WebQualis. O SJR normalizado por área pareceu melhor predizer o WebQualis definido pelo critério Qualis de 2013 de 2016, que inclui o indicador de aderência. Se os pesquisadores considerarem que áreas distintas de pesquisa não são igualmente ponderadas e requerem avaliação específica, como sugestão dos autores, a utilização das métricas normalizadas para classificar os periódicos no cenário brasileiro.
