The present study investigated the association of genetic predisposition for white matter hyperintensities (WMHs) with incident amnestic mild cognitive impairment (aMCI) or Alzheimer's disease (AD), as well as whether such an association was influenced by age, sex, and cognitive reserve. Overall, 537 individuals without aMCI or dementia at baseline were included. Among them, 62 individuals developed aMCI/AD at follow up. Genetic propensity to WMH was estimated using a polygenic risk score for WMHs (PRS WMH). The association of PRS WMH with aMCI/AD incidence was examined using COX models. A higher PRS WMH was associated with a 47.2% higher aMCI/AD incidence (p = 0.015) in the fully adjusted model. Subgroup analyses showed significant results in the older age group, in which individuals with a higher genetic predisposition for WMHs had a 3.4-fold higher risk for developing aMCI/AD at follow up (p < 0.001), as well as in the lower cognitive reserve (CR, proxied by education years) group, in which individuals with a higher genetic predisposition for WMHs had an over 2-fold higher risk (p = 0.013). Genetic predisposition for WMHs was associated with aMCI/AD incidence, particularly in the group of participants with a low CR. Thus, CR might be a modifier in the relationship between genetic predisposition for WMHs and incident aMCI/AD.

Obejctives: The aim of the current study was to investigate whether genetic risk factors may moderate the association between adherence to the Mediterranean diet and AD incidence.Mehtods: The sample was drawn from the HELIAD study, a longitudinal study with a follow-up interval of 3 years. In total 537 older adults without dementia or AD at baseline were included. Adherence to the Mediterranean diet was assessed at baseline and AD diagnosis was determined at both visits. A Polygenic Index for late onset AD (PGI-AD) was constructed. Cox proportional hazard models adjusted for age, sex, education, baseline Global cognition score and APOE e-4 genotype were employed to evaluate the association between PGI-AD and Mediterranean diet with AD incidence. Next, we examined the association between adherence to the Mediterranean diet and AD risk over time across participants stratified by low and high PGI-AD.Results: Twenty-eight participants developed AD at follow-up. In fully adjusted models both the PGI-AD and the adherence to the Mediterranean diet were associated with AD risk (p < 0.05 for both). In the low PGI-AD group, those with a low adherence had a 10-fold higher risk of developing AD per year of follow-up, than did the participants with a high adherence to the Mediterranean diet (p = 0.011), whereas no such association was found for participants in the high PGI-AD group.Discussion: The association of Mediterranean diet with AD risk is more prominent in the group of older adults with a low polygenic risk for developing AD. Our findings suggest that genetic risk factors should be taken into account when planning interventions aiming to improve cognitive health.

BACKGROUND: numerous studies point towards a critical role of Interleukin 6 (IL-6) pathway in frailty pathogenesis yet the causal relationship between the two remains elusive. METHODS: we selected genetic variants near the IL-6 receptor locus (IL-6R) associated with reduced C-reactive protein (CRP) levels, a downstream effector of IL-6 pathway, and we used them as genetic proxies of IL-6 signalling downregulation. We then performed a two-sample Mendelian randomisation (MR) to investigate the association with frailty status, as defined by the Frailty Index (FI) in 11,171 individuals from the Hellenic Longitudinal Investigation of Ageing and Diet (HELIAD) study. MR analysis was repeated after excluding depression or cognition-related FI items as well as following age or sex stratification. Association with frailty was also examined using an alternative instrument, weighted on s-IL-6R levels. Replication was attempted in UK Biobank dataset. RESULTS: genetic predisposition to IL-6 signalling downregulation, weighted on CRP levels, was associated with lower risk of frailty, inserted either as categorical (odds ratio [95% confidence interval] = 0.15 [-3.39, -0.40], P = 0.013) or continuous variable (beta [se] = -0.09 [0.003], P = 0.0009). Sensitivity analyses revealed similar estimates across different MR methods with no evidence for horizontal pleiotropy or heterogeneity. Results remained robust after exclusion of depression or cognition-related FI items and following sex or age stratification. Genetically increased s-IL-6R levels were negatively correlated with frailty and this finding remained significant in a meta-analysis of UK Biobank and HELIAD cohorts. CONCLUSION: our results support a potential causal effect of IL-6 signalling on frailty and further suggest that downregulation of IL-6 levels may reduce frailty risk.

INTRODUCTION: We constructed a polygenic risk score (PRS) for ß-amyloid (PRSAß42) to proxy AD pathology and investigated its association with incident Alzheimer's disease (AD)/amnestic mild cognitive impairment (aMCI) and the influence of cognitive reserve (CR), proxied by educational years, on the relationship between PRSAß42 and AD/aMCI risk. METHODS: A total of 618 cognitive-normal participants were followed-up for 2.92 years. The association of PRSAß42 and CR with AD/aMCI incidence was examined with COX models. Then we examined the additive interaction between PRSAß42 and CR and the CR effect across participants with different PRSAß42 levels. RESULTS: Higher PRSAß42 and CR were associated with a 33.9% higher risk and 8.3% less risk for AD/aMCI, respectively. An additive interaction between PRSAß42 and CR was observed. High CR was associated with 62.6% less risk of AD/aMCI incidence only in the high-PRSAß42 group. DISCUSSION: A super-additive effect of PRSAß42 and CR on AD/aMCI risk was observed. CR influence was evident in participants with high PRSAß42.

RESUMO

Stress is defined as a state of threatened or perceived as threatened homeostasis. The well-tuned coordination of the stress response system is necessary for an organism to respond to external or internal stressors and re-establish homeostasis. Glucocorticoid hormones are the main effectors of stress response and aberrant glucocorticoid signaling has been associated with an increased risk for psychiatric and mood disorders, including schizophrenia, post-traumatic stress disorder and depression. Emerging evidence suggests that life-stress experiences can alter the epigenetic landscape and impact the function of genes involved in the regulation of stress response. More importantly, epigenetic changes induced by stressors persist over time, leading to increased susceptibility for a number of stress-related disorders. In this review, we discuss the role of glucocorticoids in the regulation of stress response, the mechanism through which stressful experiences can become biologically embedded through epigenetic alterations, and we underline potential associations between epigenetic changes and the development of stress-related disorders.

Apolipoprotein (APOE) ε4 allele has been associated with a number of age-related diseases but previous studies failed to identify any link with Frailty syndrome. The aim of the present study is to investigate the association between APOE ε4 allele and frailty syndrome. We operationalised Frailty according to the Fried definition, and we determined the APOE genotype in 1234 participants of the hellenic longitudinal investigation of ageing and diet study. Logistic regression analyses were performed to examine the association between APOE ε4 allele and frailty. Models were adjusted for age, education, sex, presence (or absence) of hypertension, diabetes, myocardial infraction, coronary disease, congestive heart failure, arrhythmia or other heart disease, family history of dementia and current smoking. The same models were performed after exclusion of patients with dementia and participants with APOE ε2/ε4 genotype. In the fully adjusted model, carriers of APOE ε4 allele had 2.753 higher odds of frailty relative to non-carriers. After trichotomization of APOE genotype, APOE ε4 heterozygotes had 2.675 higher risk of frailty compared to non-carriers while exclusion of patients with dementia or/and APOE ε2/ε4 genotype did not alter the association. The APOE ε4 allele may be a significant biomarker of frailty with diagnostic and prognostic capacity.

The possible relationship between Subjective Cognitive Decline (SCD) and dementia needs further investigation. In the present study, we explored the association between specific biomarkers of Alzheimer's Disease (AD), amyloid-beta 42 (Aß42) and Tau with the odds of SCD using data from two ongoing studies. In total, 849 cognitively normal (CN) individuals were included in our analyses. Among the participants, 107 had available results regarding cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) Aß42 and Tau, while 742 had available genetic data to construct polygenic risk scores (PRSs) reflecting their genetic predisposition for CSF Aß42 and plasma total Tau levels. The associations between AD biomarkers and SCD were tested using logistic regression models adjusted for possible confounders such as age, sex, education, depression, and baseline cognitive test scores. Abnormal values of CSF Aß42 were related to 2.5-fold higher odds of SCD, while higher polygenic loading for Aß42 was associated with 1.6-fold higher odds of SCD. CSF Tau, as well as polygenic loading for total Tau, were not associated with SCD. Thus, only cerebral amyloidosis appears to be related to SCD status, either in the form of polygenic risk or actual CSF measurements. The temporal sequence of amyloidosis being followed by tauopathy may partially explain our findings.

Objective: Our study aimed to explore whether physical condition might affect the association between genetic predisposition for Alzheimer's Disease (AD) and AD incidence. Methods: The sample of participants consisted of 561 community-dwelling adults over 64 years old, without baseline dementia (508 cognitively normal and 53 with mild cognitive impairment), deriving from the HELIAD, an ongoing longitudinal study with follow-up evaluations every 3 years. Physical condition was assessed at baseline through walking time (WT), while a Polygenic Risk Score for late onset AD (PRS-AD) was used to estimate genetic predisposition. The association between WT and PRS-AD with AD incidence was evaluated with Cox proportional hazard models adjusted for age, sex, education years, global cognition score and APOE ε-4 genotype. Then, the association between WT and AD incidence was investigated after stratifying participants by low and high PRS-AD. Finally, we examined the association between PRS-AD and AD incidence after stratifying participants by WT. Results: Both WT and PRS-AD were connected with increased AD incidence (p < 0.05), after adjustments. In stratified analyses, in the slow WT group participants with a greater genetic risk had a 2.5-fold higher risk of developing AD compared to participants with lower genetic risk (p = 0.047). No association was observed in the fast WT group or when participants were stratified based on PRS-AD. Conclusions: Genetic predisposition for AD is more closely related to AD incidence in the group of older adults with slow WT. Hence, physical condition might be a modifier in the relationship of genetic predisposition with AD incidence.

Genome-wide association studies have discovered common genetic variants associated with cognitive performance. Polygenic scores that summarize these discoveries explain up to 10% of the variance in cognitive test performance in samples of adults. However, the role these genetics play in cognitive aging is not well understood. We analyzed data from 168 cognitively healthy participants aged 23-77 years old, with data on genetics, neuropsychological assessment, and brain-imaging measurements from two large ongoing studies, the Reference Abilities Neural Networks, and the Cognitive Reserve study. We tested whether a polygenic index previously related to cognition (Cog PGI) would moderate the relationship between age and measurements of the cognitive domains extracted from a neuropsychological evaluation: fluid reasoning, memory, vocabulary, and speed of processing. We further explored the relationship of Cog PGI and age on cognition using Johnson-Neyman intervals for two-way interactions. Sex, education, and brain measures of cortical thickness, total gray matter volume, and white matter hyperintensity were considered covariates. The analysis controlled for population structure-ancestry. There was a significant interaction effect of Cog PGI on the association between age and the domains of memory (Standardized coefficient = -0.158, p-value = 0.022), fluid reasoning (Standardized coefficient = -0.146, p-value = 0.020), and vocabulary (Standardized coefficient = -0.191, p-value = 0.001). Higher PGI strengthened the negative relationship between age and the domains of memory and fluid reasoning while PGI weakened the positive relationship between age and vocabulary. Based on the Johnson-Neyman intervals, Cog PGI was significantly associated with domains of memory, reasoning, and vocabulary for younger adults. There is a significant moderation effect of genetic predisposition for cognition for the association between age and cognitive performance. Genetics discovered in genome-wide association studies of cognitive performance show a stronger association in young and midlife older adults.

PURPOSE: Although ACTH is considered a secondary regulator of aldosterone production, patients with apparent essential hypertension have been treated with mineralocorticoid receptor antagonists (MRAs). In this study, we aimed to identify potentially damaging variants that might be implicated in the phenotype of a well-characterized cohort of 21 hypertensive patients without PA but with stress-induced aldosterone hypersecretion. The patients' blood pressure was normalized though MRA administration. METHODS: Genetic screening was performed through whole-exome sequencing (WES), and variants in PA-associated or in ion-channels of aldosterone-regulating genes were prioritized. Variants with population frequency < 0.01, predicted to alter protein structure and classified as likely pathogenic by in silico tools, were retained. RESULTS: Qualifying variants were identified in nine of the 21 patients screened. Seven patients were carriers of six potentially damaging variants in six genes associated with PA (KCNK9, KCNK5, ATP13A3, SLC26A2, CACNA1H, and CACNA1D). A novel variant in the KCNK9 gene (p.V221M) is reported. Our analysis revealed two variants in two novel susceptibility genes for aldosterone hypersecretion, namely, KCNK16 (p.P255H) and CACNA2D3 (p.V557I). CONCLUSION: WES revealed potentially damaging germline variants in genes participating in aldosterone synthesis/regulating pathways in 9/21 patients of our cohort. The variants identified might play a role in aldosterone hypersecretion under conditions of stress. The potential pathogenicity of these variants should be examined in future functional studies.

Background and aims: To provide a fair estimate of the prevalence of factor V Leiden (FVL) (G1691A), prothrombin (G20210A), and MTHFR (C677T) mutations in the Greek population. Methods: We genotyped a representative sample of 974 apparently healthy Greek adults by the method of real-time PCR and we calculated the allele frequencies of factor V Leiden (FVL) (G1691A), prothrombin (G20210A), and MTHFR (C677T) mutations. In addition, we determined the frequency of co-occurrence of FVL (1691A) and prothrombin (20210A), FVL (1691A) and MTHFR (677T), prothrombin (20210A) and MTHFR (677T) mutations. Results: Τhe career frequencies of FVL (1691A), prothrombin (20210A), and MTHFR (677T) alleles were 7.5%, 4.5%, and 49.3% while the allele frequencies were 4%, 2.25%, and 39.5%, respectively. The coexistence of the allele frequencies combinations of two, FVL (1691A) and Prothrombin (20210A), FVL (1691A) and MTHFR (677T), prothrombin (20210A) and MTHFR (677T) was found in 1 (0.9%), 29 (3.5%), and 22 (3%) samples, respectively. Triple heterozygous carriers were not found. Conclusion: Allele frequencies of the two (FVL and MTHFR) mutations are higher compared with published data. The large sample size of our study enhances the validity of our results and suggests a biological affinity of Greek population with Southern Italian populations.

Background and purpose: Vascular risk factors may influence cognitive function and thus represent possible targets for preventive approaches against dementia. Yet it remains unknown, if they associate with cognition independently of the individual genetic risk for dementia. Methods: In a population-based study of 1172 community-dwelling individuals aged ≥65 years in Greece, we constructed a vascular burden score (VBS; based on presence of hypertension, diabetes, hyperlipidemia, heart disease, and cerebrovascular disease, range 0-5) and a polygenic risk score (PRS) for clinically-diagnosed Alzheimer's disease (AD) based on 23 genetic variants. We then explored in joint models the associations of the PRS for AD and VBS with global cognitive performance, cognitive performance across multiple cognitive domains, and odds of dementia. Results: The mean age of study participants was 73.9 ± 5.2 years (57.1% females). Both the PRS for AD and VBS were associated with worse global cognitive performance (beta per-SD-increment in PRS: -0.06, 95%CI: -0.10 to -0.02, beta per-point-increment in VBS: -0.05, 95%CI: -0.09 to -0.02), worse performance across individual cognitive domains (memory, executive function, attention, language, visuospatial ability), and higher odds of dementia (OR per-SD increment in PRS: 1.56, 95%CI: 1.17-2.09, OR per-point increment in VBS: 1.38, 95%CI: 1.05-1.81). There was no evidence of an interaction between the two scores. Higher VBS was associated with worse cognitive performance equally across tertiles of the PRS for AD, even among individuals at the highest tertile. Conclusions: Both genetic risk and vascular burden are independently and additively associated with worse cognitive performance and higher odds of dementia.

Primary aldosteronism (PA), a condition characterized by autonomous aldosterone hypersecretion, constitutes the most common cause of secondary hypertension. Over the last decade, major breakthroughs have been made in the field of genetics underpinning PA. The advent and wide application of Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) technology led to the identification of several somatic and germline mutations associated with sporadic and familial forms of PA. Somatic mutations in ion-channel genes that participate in aldosterone biosynthesis, including KCNJ5, CACNA1D, ATP1A1, and ATP2B3, have been implicated in the development of aldosterone-producing adenomas (APAs). On the other hand, germline variants in CLCN2, KCNJ5, CACNA1H, and CACNA1D genes have been implicated in the pathogenesis of the familial forms of PA, FH-II, FH-III, and F-IV, as well as PA associated with seizures and neurological abnormalities. However, recent studies have shown that the prevalence of PA is higher than previously thought, indicating the need for an improvement of our diagnostic tools. Further research is required to recognize mild forms of PA and to investigate the underlying molecular mechanisms.

Breast milk is the ideal food for infants and undoubtedly has immediate and long­term benefits. Breast milk contains extracellular vesicles (EVs) i.e., exosomes secreted by maternal breast cells. Exosomes carry genetic material, such as long non­coding RNAs (lncRNAs), which possibly participate in cell­to­cell communications, as they are known to regulate critical gene pathways. The aim of the present study was to screen human breastmilk exosomes for their lncRNA cargo and to examine exosomal lncRNA levels associated with milk obtained from mothers that gave birth at term or prematurely (<37 weeks of gestation). Samples were collected at 3 weeks postpartum from 20 healthy, breastfeeding mothers; 10 mothers had given birth at full­term and 10 mothers preterm. Exosomal RNA was extracted from all samples and the expression of 88 distinct lncRNAs was determined using reverse transcription­quantitative PCR. A total of 13 lncRNAs were detected in ≥85% of the samples, while 31 were detected in ≥50% of the samples. Differential expression analysis of the lncRNAs between the two groups revealed ≥2­fold differences, with generally higher lncRNA concentrations found in the milk of the mothers that gave birth at term compared with those that gave birth preterm. Among these, the non­coding RNA activated at DNA damage (NORAD) was prominently detected in both groups, and its expression was significantly downregulated in the breast milk exosomes of mothers who delivered preterm. On the whole, the present study demonstrates that breast milk lncRNAs may be important factors of normal early human development. Collectively, the presence of lncRNAs in human breast milk may explain the consistent inability of researchers to fully 'humanize' animal milk.

Sleep problems have been associated with cognition, both cross-sectionally and longitudinally. Specific genes have been also associated with both sleep regulation and cognition. In a large group of older non-demented adults, we aimed to (a) validate the association between Sleep Polygenic Risk Score (Sleep PRS) and self-reported sleep duration, and (b) examine the association between Sleep PRS and cognitive changes in a three-year follow-up. Participants were drawn from the Hellenic Longitudinal Investigation of Aging and Diet (HELIAD). A structured, in-person interview, consisting of a medical history report and physical examination, was conducted for each participant during each of the visits (baseline and first follow-up). In total, 1376 participants were included, having all demographic, genetic, and cognitive data, out of which, 688 had at least one follow-up visit. In addition, an extensive neuropsychological assessment examining five cognitive domains (memory, visuo-spatial ability, attention/speed of processing, executive function, and language) was administered. A PRS for sleep duration was created based on previously published, genome-wide association study meta-analysis results. In order to assess the relationship between the Sleep PRS and the rate of cognitive change, we used generalized estimating equations analyses. Age, sex, education, ApolipoproteinE-ε4 genotype status, and specific principal components were used as covariates. On a further analysis, sleep medication was used as a further covariate. Results validated the association between Sleep PRS and self-reported sleep duration (B = 1.173, E-6, p = 0.001). Further, in the longitudinal analyses, significant associations were indicated between increased Sleep PRS and decreased visuo-spatial ability trajectories, in both the unadjusted (B = -1305.220, p = 0.018) and the adjusted for the covariates model (B = -1273.59, p = 0.031). Similarly, after adding sleep medication as a covariate (B = -1372.46, p = 0.019), none of the associations between Sleep PRS and the remaining cognitive domains were significant. PRS indicating longer sleep duration was associated with differential rates of cognitive decline over time in a group of non-demented older adults. Common genetic variants may influence the association between sleep duration and healthy aging/cognitive health.

Several studies have investigated the association of the Parkinson's disease (PD) polygenic risk score (PRS) with several aspects of well-established PD. We sought to evaluate the association of PRS with the prodromal stage of PD. We calculated PRS in a longitudinal sample (n = 1120) of community dwelling individuals ≥ 65 years from the HELIAD (The Hellenic Longitudinal Investigation of Aging and Diet) study in order to evaluate the association of this score with the probability of prodromal PD or any of the established risk and prodromal markers in MDS research criteria, using regression multi-adjusted models. Increases in PRS estimated from GWAS summary statistics' ninety top SNPS with p < 5 × 10-8 was associated with increased odds of having probable/possible prodromal PD (i.e., ≥ 30% probability, OR = 1.033, 95%CI: 1.009-1.057 p = 0.006). From the prodromal PD risk markers, significant association was found between PRS and global cognitive deficit exclusively (p = 0.003). To our knowledge, our study is the first population based study investigating the association between PRS scores and prodromal markers of Parkinson's disease. Our results suggest a strong relationship between the accumulation of many common genetic variants, as measured by PRS, and cognitive deficits.

The influence of genetic background on driver mutations is well established; however, the mechanisms by which the background interacts with Mendelian loci remain unclear. We performed a systematic secondary-variant burden analysis of two independent cohorts of patients with Bardet-Biedl syndrome (BBS) with known recessive biallelic pathogenic mutations in one of 17 BBS genes for each individual. We observed a significant enrichment of trans-acting rare nonsynonymous secondary variants in patients with BBS compared with either population controls or a cohort of individuals with a non-BBS diagnosis and recessive variants in the same gene set. Strikingly, we found a significant over-representation of secondary alleles in chaperonin-encoding genes-a finding corroborated by the observation of epistatic interactions involving this complex in vivo. These data indicate a complex genetic architecture for BBS that informs the biological properties of disease modules and presents a model for secondary-variant burden analysis in recessive disorders.

BACKGROUND: Promising genetic treatments targeting the molecular defect of severe early-onset genetic conditions are expected to dramatically improve patients' quality of life and disease epidemiology. Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA), is one of these conditions and approved therapeutic approaches have recently become available to patients. OBJECTIVE: Analysis of genetic and clinical data from SMA patients referred to the single public-sector provider of genetic services for the disease throughout Greece followed by a retrospective assessment in the context of epidemiology and genotype-phenotype associations. METHODS: Molecular genetic analysis and retrospective evaluation of findings for 361 patients tested positive for SMA- and 862 apparently healthy subjects from the general population. Spearman rank test and generalized linear models were applied to evaluate secondary modifying factors with respect to their impact on clinical severity and age of onset. RESULTS: Causative variations- including 5 novel variants- were detected indicating a minimal incidence of about 1/12,000, and a prevalence of at least 1.5/100,000. For prognosis a minimal model pertaining disease onset before 18 months was proposed to include copy numbers of NAIP (OR = 9.9;95% CI, 4.7 to 21) and SMN2 (OR = 6.2;95% CI, 2.5-15.2) genes as well as gender (OR = 2.2;95% CI, 1.04 to 4.6). CONCLUSIONS: This long-term survey shares valuable information on the current status and practices for SMA diagnosis on a population basis and provides an important reference point for the future assessment of strategic advances towards disease prevention and health care planning.

Nutrition is a modifiable factor affecting the quality of life and independence of older people. The physiological, psychological and social changes during aging affect their dietary choices. Many older adults have inadequate energy and protein intake. Carbohydrate intake and intake of total lipids, in terms of contribution to total energy intake, generally are within the recommended levels, but a decline in overall energy intake as well as the limited variety of micronutrient-dense foods that older people tend to consume result in an inadequate intake of several micronutrients. Adherence to healthy dietary patterns has been described as only moderate among older adults. Health-care practitioners should educate older people and promote healthy diets, in particular adequate energy and protein intake.

Over the past decades, research attention has increasingly been paid to the neurobiological component of sexual behavior. The aim of the present study was to investigate the correlation of estrogen receptor α (ERA) gene polymorphism (rs2234693-PvuII) (T→C substitution) and oxytocin receptor gene polymorphism (rs53576) (G→A substitution) with sexuality parameters of young, healthy women. One hundred thirty-three Greek heterosexual women, students in higher education institutions, 20-25 years of age, sexually active, with normal menstrual cycles (28-35 days), were recruited in the study. Exclusion criteria were chronic and/or major psychiatric diseases, use of oral contraceptive pills (OCs), polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), thyroid diseases as well as drugs that are implicated in hypothalamus-pituitary-gonadal axis. T allele (wildtype) of rs2234693 (PvuII) polymorphism of ERA gene was correlated with increased levels of arousal and lubrication, whereas A allele (polymorphic) of rs53576 (OXTR) polymorphism was correlated with increased arousal levels. The simultaneous presence of both T allele of rs2234693 (PvuII) and A allele of rs53576 (OXTR) polymorphisms (T + A group) was correlated with increased arousal, orgasm levels as well as female sexual function index full score. To our knowledge, this is the first study to investigate the interaction between ERA and OXTR with regard to sexual function in women. Female sexuality is a complex behavioral trait that encompasses both biological and psychological components. It seems that variability in female sexual response stems from genetic variability that characterizes endocrine, neurotransmitter and central nervous system influences.
