RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: Comparing the effects of extracorporeal cardiopulmonary resuscitation (ECPR) and conventional cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CCPR) on outcomes in patients with in-hospital cardiac arrest (IHCA) in China. The benefits of ECPR over CCPR in patients with IHCA remain controversial. DESIGN: This article analyzed data from the BASeline Investigation of In-hospital Cardiac Arrest (BASIC-IHCA) study, which consecutively enrolled patients with IHCA from July 1, 2019, to December 31, 2020. Patients who received ECPR were selected as the case group and matched with patients who received CCPR as the control group by propensity score at a ratio of 1:4. A parallel questionnaire survey of participating hospitals was conducted, to collect data on ECPR cases from January 1, 2021 to November 30, 2021. The primary outcome was survival to discharge or 30-day survival. SETTING: We included 39 hospitals across 31 provinces in China. PATIENTS: Patients receiving cardiopulmonary resuscitation and without contraindications to ECPR were selected from the BASIC-IHCA database. Patients older than 75 years, not witnessed, or with cardiopulmonary resuscitation duration less than 10 min were excluded. INTERVENTIONS: None. MEASUREMENTS AND MAIN RESULTS: A total of 4853 patients met the inclusion criteria before matching, with 34 undergoing ECPR (median age, 56.5 yr; 67.65% male) and 4819 underwent CCPR (median age, 59 yr; 64.52% male). There were 132 patients receiving CCPR and 33 patients receiving ECPR who were eventually matched. The ECPR group had significantly higher survival rates at discharge or 30-day survival (21.21% vs. 7.58%, p = 0.048). The ECPR group had significantly lower mortality rates (hazard ratio 0.57; 95% CI, 0.38-0.91) than the CCPR group at discharge or 30 days. Besides the BASIC-IHCA study, the volume of ECPR implementations and the survival rate of patients with ECPR (29.4% vs. 10.4%. p = 0.004) in participating hospitals significantly improved. CONCLUSIONS: ECPR may be beneficial compared with CCPR for patient survival after IHCA and should be considered for eligible patients with IHCA.

RESUMO

The high morbidity and mortality of Macrobrachium nipponense occurred in several farms in China, with cardinal symptoms of slow swimming, loss of appetite, empty of intestine, reddening of the hepatopancreas and gills. The pathogen has been confirmed as Decapod Iridescent Virus 1 (DIV1), namely DIV1-mn, by molecular epidemiology, histopathological examination, TEM observation, challenge experiment, and viral load detection. Histopathological analysis showed severe damage in hepatopancreas and gills of diseased prawns, exhibited few eosinophilic inclusions and pyknosis, and TEM of diseased prawns revealed that icosahedral virus particles existed in hepatopancreas and gill, which confirmed the disease of the farmed prawns caused by the DIV1 infection. Besides, challenge tests showed LD50 of DIV1 to M. nipponense was determined to be 2.14 × 104 copies/mL, and real-time PCR revealed that M. nipponense had a very high DIV1 load in the hemocytes, gills and hepatopancreas after infection. Furthermore, qRT-PCR was undertaken to investigated the expression of six immune-related genes in DIV1-infected M. nipponense after different time points, and the results revealed UCHL3, Relish, Gly-Cru2, CTL, MyD88 and Hemocyanin were significantly up-regulated in hemocytes, gills and hepatopancreas, which revealed various expression patterns in response to DIV1 infection. This study revealed that DIV1 infection is responsible for the mass mortality of M. nipponense, one of the important crustacean species, indicating its high susceptibility to DIV1. Moreover, this study will contribute to exploring the interaction between the host and DIV1 infection, specifically in terms of understanding how M. nipponense recognizes and eliminates the invading of DIV1.

RESUMO

Vibrio mimicus is a pathogenic bacterium that cause red body disease in Macrobrachium nipponense, leading to high mortality and financial loss. Based on previous studies, rpoS gene contribute to bacterial pathogenicity during infection, but the role of RpoS involved in the immune response of M. nipponense under V. mimicus infection remains unclear. In this study, the pathogen load and the RNA-seq of M. nipponense under wild-type and ΔrpoS strain V. mimicus infection were investigated. Over the entire infection period, the ΔrpoS strain pathogen load was always lower than that of the wild-type strain in the M. nipponense hemolymph, hepatopancreas, gill and muscle. Furthermore, the expression level of rpoS gene in the hepatopancreas was the highest at 24 hours post infection (hpi), then the samples of hepatopancreas tissue infected with the wild type and ΔrpoS strain at 24 hpi were selected for RNA-seq sequencing. The results revealed a significant change in the transcriptomes of the hepatopancreases infected with ΔrpoS strain. In contrast to the wild-type infected group, the ΔrpoS strain infected group exhibited differentially expressed genes (DEGs) enriched in 181 KEGG pathways at 24 hpi. Among these pathways, 8 immune system-related pathways were enriched, including ECM-receptor interaction, PI3K-Akt signaling pathway, Rap1 signaling pathway, Gap junction, and Focal adhesion, etc. Among these pathways, up-regulated genes related to Kazal-type serine protease inhibitors, S-antigen protein, copper zinc superoxide dismutase, tight junction protein, etc. were enriched. This study elucidates that rpoS can affect tissue bacterial load and immune-related pathways, thereby impacting the survival rate of M. nipponense under V. mimicus infection. These findings validate the potential of rpoS as a promising target for the development of a live attenuated vaccine against V. mimicus.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Drought affects the characteristics of water use during crop production and so quantitatively evaluating the impacts is important. However, it remains unclear how crop water use responds to drought. To address this gap, water footprint (WF) and standardized precipitation evapotranspiration index (SPEI) were calculated by remote sensing approaches to assess the effects of drought on crop water use. Rainfed maize is the most important crop in Jilin Province, and its growth and water use are more susceptible to drought. The present study explored not only the impact of growing season drought on the maize WF values in Jilin Province, but also the response of WF values to drought at different time scales. RESULTS: Spatially, 72.94% of the WFblue pixels showed a non-significant increase, and the WFgreen in 68% pixels decreased significantly, being mainly concentrated in the middle region. Furthermore, the pixels affected by monthly time scale drought were mainly in the middle region, whereas the pixels affected by annual time scale drought were mainly in the western region. CONCLUSION: Drought not only affected on the source and structure of agricultural water consumption, but also had different effects on WF values at different time scale. These effects had obvious spatial differences. The present study systematically explored the effects of drought on the WF values for rainfed maize in different climate regions and a consideration of these effects could provide valuable information on rainfed maize growth and the agricultural water use response to a changing climate. © 2023 Society of Chemical Industry.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Recently, the World Health Organization (WHO) released an updated global guideline on physical activity and sedentary behavior, including recommendations for sub-populations living with chronic conditions or disabilities. We aimed to examine the prevalence of meeting the WHO recommendations among these sub-populations in the USA. METHODS: We conducted a cross-sectional study using data from the 2017 to 2018 cycle of the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES). RESULTS: We revealed variations in physical activity levels among individuals with chronic conditions and disability. US adults with diabetes, hypertension or disability had a lower prevalence of recommended physical activity levels than the general population. In addition, certain demographic groups such as being female, older and having lower socioeconomic status were associated with a lower likelihood of meeting the WHO recommendations on physical activity. CONCLUSIONS: Our findings underscore the importance of promoting physical activity levels among US adults, especially those with older age, low socioeconomic status, hypertension and disability.

RESUMO

The benefits of baricitinib in coronavirus disease-2019 are inadequately defined. We performed a systematic review and meta-analysis of studies of baricitinib to determine its clinical efficacy and adverse events in patients with COVID-19. Databases were searched from their inception to September 5, 2021. The primary outcome was the coefficient of mortality. We also compared secondary indicators and adverse events between baricitinib treatment and placebo or other treatments. Twelve studies of 3564 patients were included and assessed qualitatively (modified Jadad and Newcastle-Ottawa Scale scores). Baricitinib effectively improved the mortality rate (relative risk of mortality = 0.56; 95% confidence interval: 0.46-0.69; p < 0.001; I2 = 2%), and this result was unchanged by subgroup analysis. Baricitinib improved intensive care unit admission, the requirement for invasive mechanical ventilation, and improved the oxygenation index. Data from these studies also showed that baricitinib slightly reduced the risk of adverse events. Regarding the choice of the drug dosage of baricitinib, the high-dose group appeared to have additional benefits for clinical efficacy. Our study shows that baricitinib may be a promising, safe, and effective anti-severe acute respiratory syndrome-coronavirus-2 drug candidate, with the advantages of low cost, easy production, and convenient storage.

RESUMO

Myocardial injury is a severe complication of sepsis and contributes substantially to the death of critically ill patients. Long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) participate in the pathogenesis of sepsis-induced myocardial injury. In this study, we investigated the role of lncRNA X-inactive specific transcript (XIST) in septic myocardial injury and explored its mechanism. Lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-stimulated H9C2 cells and rats subjected to cecal ligation and puncture (CLP) were used as the in vitro and in vivo models. After exposure to LPS, XIST and c-Fos levels were upregulated, but miR-150-5p was downregulated in H9C2 cardiomyocytes and myocardial tissues. XIST affected viability, apoptosis, and pyroptosis in LPS-challenged H9C2 cells. Moreover, XIST knockdown attenuated LPS-induced injury in H9C2 cells by targeting the miR-150-5p/c-Fos axis. c-Fos could bound to the promoter of the TXNIP/XIST gene and enhanced TXNIP/XIST expression. Silencing of XIST improved cardiac function and survival rate and reduced apoptosis and pyroptosis by regulating the miR-150-5p/c-Fos axis in septic rats in vivo. Taken together, our data show that XIST/miR-150-5p/c-Fos axis affected septic myocardial injury, which may indicate a novel therapeutic strategy for sepsis-induced myocardial injury.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: This meta-analysis based on prospective cohort studies aimed to evaluate the associations of lipid profiles with the risk of major adverse cardiovascular outcomes in patients with coronary heart disease (CHD). METHODS: The PubMed, Embase, and Cochrane Library electronic databases were systematically searched for prospective cohort study published through December 2019, and the pooled results were calculated using the random-effects model. RESULTS: Twenty-one studies with a total of 76,221 patients with CHD met the inclusion criteria. The per standard deviation (SD) increase in triglyceride was associated with a reduced risk of major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE). Furthermore, the per SD increase in high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) was associated with a reduced risk of cardiac death, whereas patients with lower HDL-C were associated with an increased risk of MACE, all-cause mortality, and cardiac death. Finally, the risk of MACE was significantly increased in patients with CHD with high lipoprotein(a) levels. CONCLUSIONS: The results of this study suggested that lipid profile variables could predict major cardiovascular outcomes and all-cause mortality in patients with CHD.

RESUMO

Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is one of the most frequent malignancies and a main cause of global cancer mortality. In the past decade, circular RNAs (circRNAs) have been proved to play key roles in various cancers. Previously, circ_0008450 was identified upregulated in HCC tissues by high-throughput circRNA sequencing. In this study, quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction was used to evaluate the expression level of circ_0008450 in human HCC tumor and corresponding nontumor tissue samples, and the association between circ_0008450 expression and clinicopathologic features of patients with HCC was also analyzed. After that, the functions of circ_0008450 in biological behaviors of HCC cells were determined by cell counting kit-8, colony formation, flow cytometry, and the transwell assays. The mechanism of circ_0008450 was explored by the bioinformatic analysis and dual-luciferase reporter assay. The expression of circ_0008450 is upregulated in HCC tissue specimens and cell lines. Patients with a high circ_0008450 expression usually bear a lower 5-year survival rate. Silencing of circ_0008450 in Huh-7 cells inhibited cell viability, migration, and invasion, whereas cell apoptosis was increased. Conversely, its overexpression in HepG2 cells leads to absolutely inverse results. In addition, circ_0008450 was proved to be a sponge of miR-548p. The oncogenic role of circ_0008450 was partially attributed to its suppression on miR-548p. This study implies a new target for the treatment of HCC.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Rice is a special crop, and its production differs from that of other crops because it requires a thin layer of water coverage for a long period. The calculation of the water footprint of rice production should differ from that of other crops owing to the rice growing process. This study improved the calculation of blue and grey water footprints of rice production and analyzed the variations in the water footprints for rice production under different rainfall years in Jilin Province. RESULTS: In the drought year, the green water footprint was the lowest and the blue water footprint was the highest among the three years, while in the humid year, the green water footprint was the highest and the blue water footprint was not the lowest. The areas with higher water footprints were found in the east and west regions of Jilin Province, while the areas with lower water footprints were found in the middle east and middle regions of Jilin Province. CONCLUSION: Blue water was the primary water resource for rice production, although more precipitation provided the highest green water in the humid year; also, the spatial distributions of water footprints were not the same under different rainfall years. © 2017 Society of Chemical Industry.

RESUMO

Different seasonal health effects of ambient ozone (O3) have been reported in previous studies. This might be due to inappropriate adjustment of temperature in different seasons. We used daily data on non-accidental mortality and ambient air pollution in Zhengzhou from January 19, 2013 to June 30, 2015. Season-stratified analyses using generalized additive models were conducted to evaluate the seasonal associations with adjustment of temperature with different lagged days (lag0-1 for warm season, lag0-14 for cold season). We recorded a total of 70,443 non-accidental deaths in Zhengzhou during the study period. Significant associations were observed between ambient O3 and mortality in cold season. Every 10-µg/m3 increment of 24-h O3 of 1-day lagged time was associated with a 1.38% (95% CI 0.60, 2.16%) increase in all cause mortality, 1.35% (95% CI 0.41, 2.30%) increase in cardiovascular mortality, and 1.78% (95% CI 0.43, 3.14%) increase in respiratory mortality. Similar associations were observed when using daily 1- and 8-h maximum concentrations of O3. No significant association was found during warm season. This study suggests a more pronounced ozone-mortality association in cold season in Zhengzhou, and we suggest that different lagged temperatures should be considered when examining the seasonal health effects of ambient ozone.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Field-scale changes in the water footprint during crop growth play an important role in formulating sustainable water utilisation strategies. This study aimed to explore field-scale variation in the water footprint of growing sunflowers in the western Jilin Province, China, during a 3-year field experiment. The goals of this study were to (1) determine the components of the 'blue' and 'green' water footprints for sunflowers sown with water, and (2) analyse variations in water footprints and soil water balance under different combinations of temperature and precipitation. Specific actions could be adopted to maintain sustainable agricultural water utilisation in the semi-arid region based on this study. RESULTS: The green, blue, and grey water footprints accounted for 93.7-94.7%, 0.4-0.5%, and 4.9-5.8%, respectively, of the water footprint of growing sunflowers. The green water footprint for effective precipitation during the growing season accounted for 58.8% in a normal drought year but 48.2% in an extreme drought year. When the effective precipitation during the growing season could not meet the green water use, a moisture deficit arose. This increase in the moisture deficit can have a significant impact on soil water balance. CONCLUSION: Green water was the primary water source for sunflower growth in the study area, where a scarcity of irrigation water during sunflower growth damaged the soil water balance, particularly in years with continuous drought. The combination of temperature and precipitation effected the growing environment, leading to differences in yield and water footprint. The field experiments in this area may benefit from further water footprint studies at the global, national and regional scale. © 2016 The Authors. RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Water footprint (WF) methodology is essential for quantifying total water consumption of crop production and making efficient water management policies. This study calculated the green, blue, grey and total WFs of maize production in Northeast China from 1998 to 2012 and compared the values of the provinces. This study also analyzed the spatial variation and structure characteristics of the WFs at the prefecture level. RESULTS: The annual average WF of maize production was 1029 m(3) per ton, which was 51% green, 21% blue and 28% grey. The WF of maize production was highest in Liaoning Province, moderate in Heilongjiang Province and lowest in Jilin Province. The spatial differences of the WFs calculated for the 36 major maize production prefectures were significant in Northeast China. There was a moderate positive spatial autocorrelation among prefectures that had similar WFs. Local indicator of spatial autocorrelation index (LISA) analysis identified prefectures with higher WFs in the southeast region of Liaoning Province and the southwest region of Heilongjiang Province and prefectures with lower WFs in the middle of Jilin Province. CONCLUSION: Spatial differences in the WF of maize production were caused mainly by variations in climate conditions, soil quality, irrigation facilities and maize yield. The spatial distribution of WFs can help provide a scientific basis for optimizing maize production distribution and then formulate strategies to reduce the WF of maize production.

RESUMO

Water-soluble phosphorescent polymeric nanoparticles with an average diameter of approximately 100 nm were synthesized by a coordination cross-linking reaction. The pyridine blocks in poly(4-vinyl pyridine-b-ethylene oxide) (P4VP-b-PEO) were cross-linked by the iridium chloride-bridged dimer in DMF solution. Owing to the presence of an iridium complex with different ligands in the core of the polymeric nanoparticles, NP-1, NP-2, and NP-3 showed bright green, yellow, and red phosphorescence, respectively. PEG chains in the shell gave the polymeric nanoparticles solubility and biocompatibility, which was confirmed by an MTT assay using HeLa cells as a model cancer cell line. The flow cytometry and laser confocal fluorescence microscopy results revealed NP-2, as an example, could be effectively uptaken by HeLa cells. Therefore, these polymeric nanoparticles can be used as luminescent probes for living cells. In addition, (1) O2 could be effectively generated in the presence of NP-2 upon irradiation with visible light (λ>400 nm, 300 mW cm(-2) ), which was confirmed by a clear decrease in the fluorescence intensity of 9,10-dimethylanthracene (DMA). After incubation with NP-2 at a concentration of 200 µg mL(-1) for 6 h, approximately 90 % of HeLa cells were effectively ablated upon irradiation with visible light for only 10 min, indicating the potential for photodynamic therapy with polymeric nanoparticles.

RESUMO

We present an exceptional case of a 53-year-old female, initially misdiagnosed with fulminant myocarditis, but later correctly diagnosed with pheochromocytoma. The presentation of the patient included a spectrum of symptoms such as headache, chest discomfort, palpitations, and dyspnea, following the intake of Domperidone. Two weeks prior to admission, the patient had experienced episodes of diarrhea and a low-grade fever. Unresolved symptoms and an unmanageable surge in blood pressure despite comprehensive fulminant myocarditis treatment prompted further investigation. The discovery of an adrenal mass via a CT scan and subsequent biochemical tests led to the confirmation of pheochromocytoma. Implementation of alpha-blockade therapy and a successful laparoscopic adrenalectomy resulted in significant clinical improvement. This case underscores the diagnostic intricacies of pheochromocytoma and highlights the need for vigilance when faced with severe, unresponsive cardiovascular symptoms.

RESUMO

Background: The global increase in the aging population presents considerable challenges, particularly regarding cognitive impairment, a major concern for public health. This study investigates the association between the triglyceride-glucose (TyG) index, a measure of insulin resistance, and the risk of cognitive impairment in the elderly. Methods: This prospective cohort study enrolled 2,959 participants aged 65 and above from the 2015 and 2020 waves of the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study (CHARLS). The analysis employed a logistic regression model to assess the correlation between the TyG index and cognitive impairment. Results: The study included 2,959 participants, with a mean age of 71.2 ± 5.4 years, 49.8% of whom were female. The follow-up in 2020 showed a decrease in average cognitive function scores from 8.63 ± 4.61 in 2015 to 6.86 ± 5.45. After adjusting for confounding factors, a significant association was observed between TyG index quartiles and cognitive impairment. Participants in the highest quartile (Q4) of baseline TyG had a higher risk of cognitive impairment compared to those in the lowest quartile (Q1) (odds ratio [OR]: 1.97, 95% confidence intervals [CI]: 1.28-2.62, P<0.001). Conclusion: The study highlights a significant connection between elevated TyG index levels and cognitive impairment among older adults in China. These findings suggest that targeted interventions to reduce the TyG index could mitigate cognitive impairment and potentially lower the incidence of dementia.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: There is still no study on the use of the SARC-CalF questionnaire for older critically ill patients. Moreover, there is limited evidence on whether a combination of sarcopenia and frailty can provide incremental improvements in risk stratification for older critically ill patients. METHODS: A total of 653 patients older than 60 years were recruited. We used the clinical frailty scale (CFS) and SARC-CalF questionnaire to assess the frailty status and sarcopenia risk, respectively, of older patients shortly after admission to the ICU. The effect of frailty and sarcopenia risk on ICU mortality and 30-day mortality was evaluated. RESULTS: A total of 147 (22.5%) patients died in the ICU, and 187 (28.6%) patients died within 30 days after ICU admission. The CFS score was associated with increased ICU mortality [per 1-score increase: odds ratio (OR) = 1.222, 95% confidential interval (CI): 1.003-1.489] and 30-day mortality (per 1-score increase: OR = 1.307, 95% CI: 1.079-1.583). The SARC-CalF score was also associated with increased ICU mortality (per 1-score increase: OR = 1.204, 95% CI: 1.120-1.294) and 30-day mortality (per 1-score increase: OR = 1.247, 95% CI: 1.163-1.337). The addition of the CFS + SARC-CalF score to Acute Physiology and Chronic Health Evaluation (APACHE) II improved discrimination and reclassified ICU and 30-day mortality risk. CONCLUSIONS: Sarcopenia risk assessed by the SARC-CalF questionnaire provided independent prognostic information for older critically ill patients. A combination of sarcopenia and frailty improved the prediction of mortality for older critically ill patients and thus might be useful in the clinical decision-making process.

RESUMO

Background: This study aimed to assess whether integrating handgrip strength (HGS) into the concept of motoric cognitive risk (MCR) would enhance its predictive validity for incident dementia and all-cause mortality. Methods: A cohort of 5, 899 adults from the Health and Retirement Study underwent assessments of gait speed, subjective cognitive complaints, and HGS were involved. Over a 10-year follow-up, biennial cognitive tests and mortality data were collected. Cox proportional hazard analyses assessed the predictive power of MCR alone and MCR plus HGS for incident dementia and all-cause mortality. Results: Patients with MCR and impaired HGS (MCR-HGS) showed the highest adjusted hazard ratios (AHR) for dementia (2.33; 95% CI, 1.49-3.65) and mortality (1.52; 95% CI, 1.07-2.17). Even patients with MCR and normal HGS (MCR-non-HGS) experienced a 1.77-fold increased risk of incident dementia; however, this association was not significant when adjusted for socioeconomic status, lifestyle factors, and medical conditions. Nevertheless, all MCR groups demonstrated increased risks of all-cause mortality. The inclusion of HGS in the MCR models significantly improved predictive discrimination for both incident dementia and all-cause mortality, as indicated by improvements in the C-statistic, integrated discrimination improvement (IDI) and net reclassification indices (NRI). Conclusion: Our study underscores the incremental predictive value of adding HGS to the MCR concept for estimating risks of adverse health outcomes among older adults. A modified MCR, incorporating HGS, could serve as an effective screening tool during national health examinations for identifying individuals at risk of dementia and mortality.

RESUMO

Background: This study aims to explore the value of the Lymphocyte-to-Monocyte Ratio (LMR) in predicting delirium among older adult patients with sepsis. Methods: Retrospective data were obtained from the MIMIC-IV database in accordance with the STROBE guidelines. Patients aged 65 and above, meeting the Sepsis 3.0 criteria, were selected for this study. Delirium was assessed using the Confusion Assessment Method for the ICU (CAM-ICU). Demographic information, comorbid conditions, severity of illness scores, vital sign measurements, and laboratory test results were meticulously extracted. The prognostic utility of the Lymphocyte-to-Monocyte Ratio (LMR) in predicting delirium was assessed through logistic regression models, which were carefully adjusted for potential confounding factors. Results: In the studied cohort of 32,971 sepsis patients, 2,327 were identified as meeting the inclusion criteria. The incidence of delirium within this subgroup was observed to be 55%. A univariate analysis revealed a statistically significant inverse correlation between the Lymphocyte-to-Monocyte Ratio (LMR) and the risk of delirium (p < 0.001). Subsequent multivariate analysis, which accounted for comorbidities and illness severity scores, substantiated the role of LMR as a significant predictive marker. An optimized model, achieving the lowest Akaike Information Criterion (AIC), incorporated 17 variables and continued to demonstrate LMR as a significant prognostic factor (p < 0.01). Analysis of the Receiver Operating Characteristic (ROC) curve indicated a significant enhancement in the Area Under the Curve (AUC) upon the inclusion of LMR (p = 0.035). Conclusion: The Lymphocyte-to-Monocyte Ratio (LMR) serves as a significant, independent prognostic indicator for the occurrence of delirium in older adult patients with sepsis. Integrating LMR into existing predictive models markedly improves the identification of patients at elevated risk, thereby informing and potentially guiding early intervention strategies.

RESUMO

Aeromonas veronii is widespread in aquatic environments and is responsible for infecting various aquatic animals. In this study, a dominant strain was isolated from the hepatopancreas of diseased Macrobrachium rosenbergii and was named JDM1-1. According to its morphological, physiological, and biochemical characteristics and molecular identification, isolate JDM1-1 was identified as A. veronii. The results of artificial challenge showed isolate JDM1-1 had high pathogenicity to M. rosenbergii with an LD50 value of 8.35 × 105 CFU/mL during the challenge test. Histopathological analysis revealed severe damage in the hepatopancreas and gills of the diseased prawns, characterized by the enlargement of the hepatic tubule lumen and gaps between the tubules as well as clubbing and degeneration observed at the distal end of the gill filament. Eight virulence-related genes, namely aer, ompA, lip, tapA, hlyA, flgA, flgM, and flgN, were screened by PCR assay. In addition, virulence factor detection showed that the JDM1-1 isolate produced lipase, lecithinase, gelatinase, and hemolysin. Furthermore, the mRNA expression profiles of immune-related genes of M. rosenbergii following A. veronii infection, including ALF1, ALF2, Crustin, C-lectin, and Lysozyme, were assessed, and the results revealed a significant upregulation in the hepatopancreas and intestines at different hours post infection. This study demonstrates that A. veronii is a causative agent associated with massive die-offs of M. rosenbergii and contributes valuable insights into the pathogenesis and host defense mechanisms of A. veronii invasion.
