RESUMO

Cell migration in confined environments is fundamental for diverse biological processes from cancer invasion to leukocyte trafficking. The cell body is propelled by the contractile force of actomyosin networks transmitted from the cell membrane to the external substrates. However, physical determinants of actomyosin-based migration capacity in confined environments are not fully understood. Here, we develop an in vitro migratory cell model, where cytoplasmic actomyosin networks are encapsulated into droplets surrounded by a lipid monolayer membrane. We find that the droplet can move when the actomyosin networks are bound to the membrane, in which the physical interaction between the contracting actomyosin networks and the membrane generates a propulsive force. The droplet moves faster when it has a larger contact area with the substrates, while narrower confinement reduces the migration speed. By combining experimental observations and active gel theory, we propose a mechanism where the balance between sliding friction force, which is a reaction force of the contractile force, and viscous drag determines the migration speed, providing a physical basis of actomyosin-based motility in confined environments.

RESUMO

Oligothiols are useful as building blocks in the construction of disulfide-based macrocycles and polymers or as ligands for coordination polymers. Above all, benzenehexathiol (BHT) is a particularly important molecule, as it is used to construct conductive two-dimensional MOFs. Despite the desire to clarify its structure and isolate it to high purity, the chemical instability of BHT has hampered single-crystal X-ray structure analysis of intact BHT. In addition, the synthesis of discrete disulfide molecules of BHT has not been reported. Here, we succeed in obtaining the single crystals of intact BHT, which is analyzed by single crystal X-ray structure analysis. Furthermore, the structures of a group of molecules with intermolecular disulfide bonds (BHT·4im and BHT2·2TBA, im = imidazole, TBA = tetrabutylammonium cation) obtained by processing BHT in the presence of bases are determined.

We report the synthesis, characterization, and electronic properties of the quinoid-based three-dimensional metal-organic framework [Fe2(dhbq)3]. The MOF was synthesized without using cations as a template, unlike other reported X2dhbq3-based coordination polymers, and the crystal structure was determined by using single-crystal X-ray diffraction. The crystal structure was entirely different from the other reported [Fe2(X2dhbq3)]2-; three independent 3D polymers were interpenetrated to give the overall structure. The absence of cations led to a microporous structure, investigated by N2 adsorption isotherms. Temperature dependence of electrical conductivity data revealed that it exhibited a relatively high electrical conductivity of 1.2 × 10-2 S cm-1 (Ea = 212 meV) due to extended d-π conjugation in a three-dimensional network. Thermoelectromotive force measurement revealed that it is an n-type semiconductor with electrons as the majority of charge carriers. Structural characterization and spectroscopic analyses, including SXRD, Mössbauer, UV-vis-NIR, IR, and XANES measurements, evidenced the occurrence of no mixed valency based on the metal and the ligand. [Fe2(dhbq)3] upon incorporating as a cathode material for lithium-ion batteries engendered an initial discharge capacity of 322 mAh/g.

The use of molecular spins as quantum bits is fascinating because it offers a wide range of strategies through chemical modifications. In this regard, it is very interesting to search for organic radical ions that have small spin-orbit coupling values. On the other hand, the feature of the magnetic relaxation of π-organic radical ions is rarely exploited due to the difficulty of spin dilution, and π-stacking interaction. In this study, we focus on N,N',N''-tris(2,6-dimethylphenyl)benzenetriimide (BTI-xy), where three xylene moieties connected to the imide groups cover the π-plane of the BTI core. As a result, BTI-xy radical anions without π-stacking interaction were obtained. This led to the slow magnetization relaxation, which is reported for the first time in organic radicals. Furthermore, the relaxation times in a solution state revealed the importance of spin interaction.

BACKGROUND: Shift workers are at high risk of developing sleep disorders such as shift worker sleep disorder or chronic insomnia. Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is the first-line treatment for insomnia, and emerging evidence shows that internet-based CBT is highly effective with additional features such as continuous tracking and personalization. However, there are limited studies on internet-based CBT for shift workers with sleep disorders. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to evaluate the impact of a 4-week, physician-assisted, internet-delivered CBT program incorporating machine learning-based well-being prediction on the sleep duration of shift workers at high risk of sleep disorders. We evaluated these outcomes using an internet-delivered CBT app and fitness trackers in the intensive care unit. METHODS: A convenience sample of 61 shift workers (mean age 32.9, SD 8.3 years) from the intensive care unit or emergency department participated in the study. Eligible participants were on a 3-shift schedule and had a Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index score ≥5. The study comprised a 1-week baseline period, followed by a 4-week intervention period. Before the study, the participants completed questionnaires regarding the subjective evaluation of sleep, burnout syndrome, and mental health. Participants were asked to wear a commercial fitness tracker to track their daily activities, heart rate, and sleep for 5 weeks. The internet-delivered CBT program included well-being prediction, activity and sleep chart, and sleep advice. A job-based multitask and multilabel convolutional neural network-based model was used for well-being prediction. Participant-specific sleep advice was provided by sleep physicians based on daily surveys and fitness tracker data. The primary end point of this study was sleep duration. For continuous measurements (sleep duration, steps, etc), the mean baseline and week-4 intervention data were compared. The 2-tailed paired t test or Wilcoxon signed rank test was performed depending on the distribution of the data. RESULTS: In the fourth week of intervention, the mean daily sleep duration for 7 days (6.06, SD 1.30 hours) showed a statistically significant increase compared with the baseline (5.54, SD 1.36 hours; P=.02). Subjective sleep quality, as measured by the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index, also showed statistically significant improvement from baseline (9.10) to after the intervention (7.84; P=.001). However, no significant improvement was found in the subjective well-being scores (all P>.05). Feature importance analysis for all 45 variables in the prediction model showed that sleep duration had the highest importance. CONCLUSIONS: The physician-assisted internet-delivered CBT program targeting shift workers with a high risk of sleep disorders showed a statistically significant increase in sleep duration as measured by wearable sensors along with subjective sleep quality. This study shows that sleep improvement programs using an app and wearable sensors are feasible and may play an important role in preventing shift work-related sleep disorders. Vinylboronic esters and allylboronic esters are well known to afford olefins by protodeboronation, and therefore homoallenylboronic esters should be similarly available as precursors for 1,3-dienes, but this strategy has not been well explored due to the limited availability of homoallenylboronic esters. Here, we describe a versatile synthesis of homoallenylboronic esters via lithiation-borylation and subsequent 1,2-rearrangement. The resulting homoallenylboronic esters were successfully converted into Z- and E-1,3-dienes by protodeboronation using Bu4NF and B(C6F5)3/PhOH, respectively.

OBJECTIVE: To determine whether periodontal status is associated with oral function, including masticatory performance and occlusal force, among community-dwelling older adults. BACKGROUND: Although a potential association between periodontal status and oral function has been reported, variations in the root surface area (RSA) of each tooth have not been considered. METHODS: We used data from a population-based study involving community-dwelling older adults. The RSA with periodontal ligament (RSA-PL), which quantifies the RSA attached to the periodontal ligament and alveolar bone, was calculated based on full-mouth periodontal examination. Masticatory performance was assessed using spectrophotometric measurement of the color (a* value) of color-changing chewing gum. The bilateral maximal occlusal force (MOF) was measured using a pressure-sensitive sheet and dedicated software. The associations of the RSA-PL, a quantitative marker of periodontal tissue support, with the a* value and MOF were assessed using linear regression models. RESULTS: The analyses included data from 250 adults [60.8% women; age, mean (standard deviation) 82.5 (5.0) years]. On average, the study participants had an RSA-PL of 26.3 cm2 , a* value of 25.0, and an MOF value of 555.1 N. After adjustments for potential confounders, including dentition status, age, sex, dental visit regularity, smoking status, physical activity level, depressive symptoms, a history of stroke or diabetes mellitus, and body mass index, the RSA-PL was found to be associated with the a* value [coefficient (per 1 cm2 increase): 0.16, 95% confidence interval (CI) 0.10-0.22)] and MOF (coefficient: 9.2, 95% CI 5.3-13.1). CONCLUSION: This study demonstrated that greater amounts of remaining tooth-supporting structures, indicated by higher RSA-PL values, were associated with better masticatory performance and a higher occlusal force among community-dwelling older adults.

Blood levels of the vitamin D3 (D3) metabolites 25-hydroxyvitamin D3 (25(OH)D3), 24R,25-dihydroxyvitamin D3, and 1α,25-dihydroxyvitamin D3 (1,25(OH)2D3) are recognized indicators for the diagnosis of bone metabolism-related diseases, D3 deficiency-related diseases, and hypercalcemia, and are generally measured by liquid-chromatography tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) using an isotope dilution method. However, other D3 metabolites, such as 20-hydroxyvitamin D3 and lactone D3, also show interesting biological activities and stable isotope-labeled derivatives are required for LC-MS/MS analysis of their concentrations in serum. Here, we describe a versatile synthesis of deuterium-labeled D3 metabolites using A-ring synthons containing three deuterium atoms. Deuterium-labeled 25(OH)D3 (2), 25(OH)D3-23,26-lactone (6), and 1,25(OH)2D3-23,26-lactone (7) were synthesized, and successfully applied as internal standards for the measurement of these compounds in pooled human serum. This is the first quantification of 1,25(OH)2D3-23,26-lactone (7) in human serum.

The development of semiconductors with narrow band gap and high stability is crucial for achieving solar to chemical energy conversion. Compounds with iodine, which has a high polarizability, have attracted attention because of their narrow band gap and long carrier lifetime, as typified by halide perovskite solar cells; however, they have been regarded as unsuitable for harsh photocatalytic water splitting because iodine is prone to self-oxidation. Here, we demonstrate that Ba2Bi3Nb2O11I, a layered Sillén-Aurivillius oxyiodide, not only has access to a wider range of visible light than its chloride and bromide counterparts, but also functions as a stable photocatalyst, efficiently oxidizing water. Density functional theory calculations reveal that the oxygen 2p orbitals in the perovskite block, rather than the fluorite Bi2O2 block as previously pointed out, anomalously push up the valence band maximum, which can be explained by a modified Madelung potential analysis that takes into account the high polarizability of iodine. In addition, the highly polarizable iodide contributes to longer carrier lifetime of Ba2Bi3Nb2O11I, allowing for a significantly higher quantum efficiency than its chloride and bromide counterparts. Visible-light-driven Z-scheme water splitting was achieved for the first time in an iodine-based system using Ba2Bi3Nb2O11I as an oxygen-evolution photocatalyst. The present study provides a novel approach for incorporating polarizable "soft" anions into building blocks of layered materials to manipulate the band structure and improve the carrier dynamics for visible-light responsive functions.

How genetic variations affect gene expression dynamics of field-grown plants remains unclear. Expression quantitative trait loci (eQTL) analysis is frequently used to find genomic regions underlying gene expression polymorphisms. This approach requires transcriptome data for the complete set of the QTL mapping population under the given conditions. Therefore, only a limited range of environmental conditions is covered by a conventional eQTL analysis. We sampled sparse time series of field-grown rice from chromosome segment substitution lines (CSSLs) and conducted RNA sequencing (RNA-Seq). Then, by using statistical analysis integrating meteorological data and the RNA-Seq data, we identified 1,675 eQTLs leading to polymorphisms in expression dynamics under field conditions. A genomic region on chromosome 11 influences the expression of several defense-related genes in a time-of-day- and scaled-age-dependent manner. This includes the eQTLs that possibly influence the time-of-day- and scaled-age-dependent differences in the innate immunity between Koshihikari and Takanari. Based on the eQTL and meteorological data, we successfully predicted gene expression under environments different from training environments and in rice cultivars with more complex genotypes than the CSSLs. Our novel approach of eQTL identification facilitated the understanding of the genetic architecture of expression dynamics under field conditions, which is difficult to assess by conventional eQTL studies. The prediction of expression based on eQTLs and environmental information could contribute to the understanding of plant traits under diverse field conditions.

1α,25-Dihydroxyvitamin D3 (abbreviated here as 1,25D3 ) is a hormonally active form of vitamin D3 (D3 ), and is produced from D3 by CYP27 A1-mediated hydroxylation at C25, followed by CYP27B1-mediated hydroxylation at C1. Further hydroxylation of 25D3 and 1,25D3 occurs at C23, C24 and C26 to generate corresponding metabolites, except for 1,25R,26D3 . Since the capability of CYP27B1 to hydroxylate C1 of side-chain-hydroxylated metabolites other than 23S,25D3 and 24R,25D3 has not been examined, we have here explored the role of CYP27B1 in the C1 hydroxylation of a series of side-chain-hydroxylated D3 derivatives. We found that CYP27B1 hydroxylates the R diastereomers of 24,25D3 and 25,26D3 more effectively than the S diastereomers, but shows almost no activity towards either diastereomer of 23,25D3 . This is the first report to show that CYP27B1 metabolizes 25,26D3 to the corresponding 1α-hydroxylated derivative, 1,25,26D3 . It will be interesting to examine the physiological relevance of this finding.

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the potential association between periodontitis and arterial stiffness among the older Japanese population. BACKGROUND: The prevalence of periodontitis is increasing in Japanese older adults. Arterial stiffness increases the risks of cardiovascular events and death, morbidity, and dementia. METHODS: This secondary analysis of data from a cross-sectional study evaluated the periodontal inflamed surface area (PISA), reflecting the amount of inflamed periodontal tissue that was estimated by a full-mouth periodontal examination. Severe periodontitis was defined per the parameters provided by the Centers for Disease Control/American Academy of Periodontology. The Cardio-Ankle Vascular Index (CAVI) was used for measuring the overall stiffness of the artery, and higher CAVI indicated increased arterial stiffness. An ordinal logistic regression model was used to evaluate the association between periodontitis and arterial stiffness. RESULTS: The analysis included 185 Japanese adults [35% men; age, mean (standard deviation) 80.2 (4.4) years]. The average PISA and the prevalence of severe periodontitis were 64.4 mm2 and 27.6%, respectively; 54 (29.2%), 56 (30.3%), and 75 (40.5%) participants were stratified to the CAVI < 9, 9 ≤ CAVI <10, and CAVI ≥ 10 groups, respectively. After adjusting for potential confounders, the odds ratio of the prevalence and severity of arterial stiffness evaluated using CAVI was 1.06 [95% confidence interval (CI) 1.01 to 1.10] for PISA per 10 mm2 and 2.12 (95% CI 1.09 to 4.11) for severe periodontitis. CONCLUSION: Periodontitis was associated with arterial stiffness among Japanese older adults. Further studies are needed to investigate whether arterial stiffness is an intermediate factor in the pathway between periodontitis and systemic diseases, including cardiovascular disease and dementia.

We developed an efficient and convenient electrochemical method to synthesize π-conjugated redox metal-complex linear polymer wires composed of azobenzene-bridged bis(terpyridine)metal (2-M, M = Fe, Ru) units covalently immobilized on glassy carbon (GC). Polymerization proceeds by electrochemical oxidation of bis(4'-(4-anilino)-2,2':6',2″-terpyridine)metal (1-M) in a water-acetonitrile-HClO4 solution, affording ultralong wires up to 7400 mers (corresponding to ca. 15 µm). Both 2-Fe and 2-Ru undergo reversible redox reactions, and their redox behaviors indicate remarkably fast redox conduction. Anisotropic hetero-metal-complex polymer wires with Fe and Ru centers are constructed via stepwise electropolymerization. The cyclic voltammograms of two hetero-metal-complex polymer wires, GC/[2-Fe]-[2-Ru] (3) and GC/[2-Ru]-[2-Fe] (4), show irreversible redox reactions with opposite electron transfer characteristics, indicating redox diodelike behavior. In short, the present electrochemical method is useful to synthesize polymer wire arrays and to integrate functional molecules on carbon.

The reaction of 2,6-F2 C6 H3 SiMe3 with Ph2 PLi provided 2,6-(Ph2 P)2 C6 H3 SiMe3 (1), which can be regarded as precursor for the novel anionic tridentate ligand [2,6-(Ph2 P)2 C6 H3 ]- (PCP)- . The reaction of 1 with [AuCl(tht)] (tht=tetrahydrothiophene) afforded 2,6-(Ph2 PAuCl)2 C6 H3 SiMe3 (2). The subsequent reaction of 2 with CsF proceeded with elimination of Me3 SiF and yielded the neutral tetranuclear complex linear-[Au4 Cl2 (PCP)2 ] (3) comprising a string-like arrangement of four Au atoms. Upon chloride abstraction from 3 with NaBArF 4 (ArF =3,5-(CF3 )2 C6 H3 ) in the presence of tht, the formation of the dicationic tetranuclear complex linear-[Au4 (PCP)2 (tht)2 ](BArF 4 )2 (4) was observed, in which the string-like structural motif is retained. Irradiation of 4 with UV light triggered a facile rearrangement in solution giving rise to the dicationic tetranuclear complex cyclo-[Au4 (PCP)2 (tht)2 ](BArF 4 ) (5), which comprises a rhomboidal motif of four Au atoms. In 3-5, the Au atoms are associated by a number of significant aurophilic interactions. The atom-economic and selective reaction of 3 with HgCl2 yielded the neutral trinuclear bimetallic complex [HgAu2 Cl3 (PCP)] (6) comprising significant metallophilic interactions between the Au and Hg atoms. Therefore, 6 may be also regarded as a metallopincer complex [ClHg(AuCAu)] between HgII and the anionic tridentate ligand [2,6-(Ph2 PAuCl)2 C6 H3 ]- (AuCAu)- containing a central carbanionic binding site and two "gold-arms" contributing pincer-type chelation trough metallophilic interactions. Compounds 1-6 were characterized experimentally by multinuclear NMR spectroscopy and X-ray crystallography and computationally using a set of real-space bond indicators (RSBIs) derived from electron density (ED) methods including Atoms In Molecules (AIM), the Electron Localizability Indicator (ELI-D) as well as the Non-Covalent Interaction (NCI) Index.

OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to investigate the longitudinal association of the combination of poor appetite (PA) and low masticatory function (LMF) with sarcopenia in community-dwelling older adults. METHODS: In total, 173 community-dwelling Japanese adults aged ≥ 75 years participated in the 3-year cohort study. Appetite assessment using the Simplified Nutritional Appetite Questionnaire (SNAQ) and masticatory function assessment using spectrophotometric measurement of differences in gum colour before and after masticating colour-changeable chewing gum (ΔE*ab) were performed at baseline. SNAQ score of ≤ 14 was defined as PA. The lowest tertile of ΔE*ab was defined as LMF. Follow-up examinations were administered annually over a 3-year period to determine sarcopenia incidence, which was defined by the criteria proposed by the Asian Working Group for Sarcopenia. Adjusted hazard ratios (HRs) of sarcopenia incidence according to the presence of PA and LMF were calculated using Cox proportional hazards regression models. RESULTS: At baseline, 81 participants (46.8%) had neither PA nor LMF, 34 (19.7%) had PA alone, 35 (20.2%) had LMF alone, and 23 (13.3%) had both PA and LMF. On follow-up, 31 participants (17.9%) developed sarcopenia. After adjusting for covariates, the adjusted HR for sarcopenia in participants with both PA and LMF was 4.4 (95% confidence interval = 1.6-12.2) compared with those without PA or LMF. PA or LMF alone was not significantly associated with sarcopenia development. CONCLUSIONS: Coexisting PA and LMF increase the risk of sarcopenia development among community-dwelling Japanese adults aged ≥ 75 years.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Identification of modifiable factors for mild cognitive impairment (MCI) is important since individuals with MCI are at a high risk of dementia and disability. Previous studies have suggested a potential association between periodontitis and cognitive impairment, but the results remain inconclusive. We designed a 5-year longitudinal study to explore the association between MCI and periodontitis and periodontal inflammation in older adults. METHODS: This study included 179 community-dwelling dentate individuals (62 men and 117 women, average age: 80.1 years). A full-mouth periodontal examination at six sites per tooth was performed at baseline. Case definitions provided by the European Workshop in Periodontology Group C (EWP definition) and the Centers for Disease Control/American Academy of Periodontology (CDC/AAP definition) were used to define severe periodontitis. Additionally, the periodontal inflamed surface area (PISA), reflecting the amount of inflamed periodontal tissue, was calculated using clinical periodontal parameters. Follow-up cognitive examinations for MCI diagnosis were performed by neurologists 1, 2, 3, and 5 years after baseline. Odds ratios (ORs) for MCI according to the presence of periodontitis and periodontal inflammation at baseline were calculated using multilevel mixed-effects logistic regression. RESULTS: At baseline, 56.4% and 27.4% of the participants had severe periodontitis by the EWP and CDC/AAP definitions, respectively. After adjusting for follow-up period and other baseline health characteristics (age, sex, smoking status, educational level, physical activity level, obesity, depression, and diabetes), severe periodontitis by either definition was significantly associated with MCI (for the EWP definition: adjusted OR = 3.58, 95% confidence interval [CI] = 1.45-8.87; for the CDC/AAP definition: adjusted OR = 2.61, 95% CI = 1.08-6.28). Periodontal inflammation assessed by PISA was also significantly associated with a higher OR for MCI (adjusted OR = 1.05, 95% CI = 1.01-1.10, per 10-mm2 increase in PISA). CONCLUSION: Severe periodontitis and periodontal inflammation were associated with incident MCI among older community-dwelling men and women.

The L-shaped, π-extended pentacycle dibenzopyrrolo[1,2-a][1,8]naphthyridine and its derivatives were synthesized using two methods: fully intramolecular [2 + 2 + 2] cycloaddition and oxidative aromatization using substituted carbodiimide and modification of an electron-rich indole ring of an L-shaped skeleton via electrophilic reaction and cross-coupling. These L-shaped compounds emitted fluorescence in high quantum yield. The position of substituents affected the fluorescence color through two different mechanisms, π-conjugation and skeletal distortion, which caused the substituted L-shaped compounds to emit fluorescence in a variety of colors and to exhibit solvato-fluorochromism.

BACKGROUND: Tracheal intubation (TI) is a key medical skill used by anesthesiologists and critical care physicians in airway management in operating rooms and critical care units. An objective assessment of dexterity in TI procedures would greatly enhance the quality of medical training. This study aims to investigate whether any biomechanical parameters obtained by 3D-motion analysis of body movements during TI procedures can objectively distinguish expert anesthesiologists from novice residents. METHODS: Thirteen expert anesthesiologists and thirteen residents attempted TI procedures on an airway mannequin using a Macintosh laryngoscope. Motion capturing technology was utilized to digitally record movements during TI procedures. The skill with which experts and novices measured biomechanical parameters of body motions were comparatively examined. RESULTS: The two groups showed similar outcomes (success rates and mean time needed to complete the TI procedures) as well as similar mean absolute velocity values in all 21 body parts examined. However, the experts exhibited significantly lower mean absolute acceleration values at the head and the left hand than the residents. In addition, the mean-absolute-jerk measurement revealed that the experts commanded potentially smoother motions at the head and the left hand. The Receiver Operating Characteristic (ROC) curves analysis demonstrated that mean-absolute-acceleration and -jerk measurements provide excellent measures for discriminating between experts and novices. CONCLUSIONS: Biomechanical parameter measurements could be used as a means to objectively assess dexterity in TI procedures. Compared with novice residents, expert anesthesiologists possess a better ability to control their body movements during TI procedures, displaying smoother motions at the selected body parts.

Synthetic two-dimensional polymers, or bottom-up nanosheets, are ultrathin polymeric frameworks with in-plane periodicity. They can be synthesized in a direct, bottom-up fashion using atomic, ionic, or molecular components. However, few are based on carbon-carbon bond formation, which means that there is a potential new field of investigation into these fundamentally important chemical bonds. Here, we describe the bottom-up synthesis of all-carbon, π-conjugated graphdiyne nanosheets. A liquid/liquid interfacial protocol involves layering a dichloromethane solution of hexaethynylbenzene on an aqueous layer containing a copper catalyst at room temperature. A multilayer graphdiyne (thickness, 24 nm; domain size, >25 µm) emerges through a successive alkyne-alkyne homocoupling reaction at the interface. A gas/liquid interfacial synthesis is more successful. Sprinkling a very small amount of hexaethynylbenzene in a mixture of dichloromethane and toluene onto the surface of the aqueous phase at room temperature generated single-crystalline graphdiyne nanosheets, which feature regular hexagonal domains, a lower degree of oxygenation, and uniform thickness (3.0 nm) and lateral size (1.5 µm).

One-dimensional (1D) coordination polymers (CPs) experiences limitations in exfoliation into individual strands, which hamper their utility as functional 1D nanomaterials. Here we synthesize chiral 1D-CPs that feature the bis(dipyrrinato)zinc(II) complex motif. They can be exfoliated into single strands upon sonication in organic media, retaining lengths of up to 3.19 µm (ca. 2600 monomer units). Their chiroptical structure allows the exfoliated wires to show circularly polarized luminescence at an intensity 5.9 times that of reference monomer complexes.
