RESUMO

Cholesterolesterase activity was assayed in monocytes of coronary patients and normal controls matched for age and showing no evidence of coronary disease. Cholesterolesterase level of coronary patients was significantly lower than that of the controls this two-fold difference in activity being particularly significant in patients with stable angina of effort, functional class 3-4, and progressive angina pectoris. Control subjects tended to have higher cholesterolesterase values than would appear normal for their age.

RESUMO

The esterase activity of blood leukocytes was studied in 77 practically healthy individuals and in patients suffering from atherosclerosis with the clinical picture of ischemic heart disease. It is shown that the esterase activity of blood leukocytes is significantly reduced in patients with ischemic heart disease. Activation of esterase in leucocytes under the effect of heparin and adrenalin is less in healthy persons 45--65 years of age and in patients with ischemic heart disease than in healthy persons aged 20--30.

RESUMO

An examination was conducted of 257 patients with ischemic heart disease and 134 practically healthy individuals. Total esterase activity decreases with age in healthy individuals. In patients with ischemic heart disease, total esterase activity as well as the activity of all six isoenzymes is diminished. Total esterase activity is lower in practically healthy young persons whose parents have ischemic heart disease than in healthy persons of the same age whose heredity is not aggravated by ischemic heart disease. Additional isoenzymes (cholinesterases) were detected in some patients suffering from ischemic heart disease and with aggravating heredity.

RESUMO

A simultaneous epidemiologic survey was carried out in 1985-1986 to assess plasma lipids and lipoproteins in 30-to-59-year-old male rural residents of Buryatia. Comparative characteristics of plasma lipid profiles are presented for the native populations and newcomers to the land. Buryats and other natives were shown to have lower levels of atherogenic lipoproteins (LDLP CS, VLDLP CS) and lipids (CS, TG) and higher levels of antiatherogenic HDLP CS, as compared to the newcomers. Mean LDLP CS levels and the atherogenic index were significantly lower, and HDLP CS levels, significantly higher, in the Buryats, as compared to other natives. Specialized studies may throw light on the causes of these differences.

RESUMO

The paper presents the data on dietary habits, blood lipid composition, and prevalence of coronary heart disease in native and non-native populations from Buryatia. They were obtained by using epidemiological (assessment of amounts of the food ingredients consumed) and biochemical (measurement of blood levels of total cholesterol, triglycerides, and high density lipoprotein cholesterol) methods. Differences were demonstrated in dietary habits between the native and non-native populations from Buryatia. The differences were shown to be associated with the prevalence of dyslipoproteinemias and coronary heart disease in these population groups.

RESUMO

Total activity of carbonic esterases was increased in rabbit blood serum, thrombocytes, leukocytes and liver tissue within the first 30-40 days of experimental hypercholesterolemia; later on it was distinctly increased. Simultaneously with the decrease in the enzymatic activity additional isoenzymes were detected.

RESUMO

Changes in the activity of blood monocytic cholesterol esterase in men with major CHD risk factors (dyslipoproteinemia, arterial hypertension, excessive body mass) were described. Standard methods of epidemiological survey and a radionuclide method to determine cholesterol esterase activity applied to a representative sampling (195 persons) have shown that enzymatic activity was growing with age. In examinees with hyperlipoproteinemia of type IIa and IIb the activity of cholesterol esterase was decreased, and in persons with excessive body mass it was increased. In combination of 2-3 CHD risk factors significant differences in enzymatic activity were undetectable.
