Influence of indexed abutments on the fracture resistance of internal conical dental implants.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the influence of abutments with a prosthetic index on the fracture resistance of Morse taper dental implants. Morse taper implants were divided into 2 groups (n = 5 per group): a group with an indexed implant and a nonindexed abutment (solid Morse taper universal post; WIS group), and a group with an indexed implant and an indexed abutment (WIP group). Both groups were subjected to bending tests for fracture strength until 5 mm of displacement or implant fracture occurred. Statistical analysis was performed using the Student t test (α = 0.05). There was no statistically significant difference between the mean fracture values, which were 305.8 N and 318.6 N for the WIS group and WIP group, respectively. The presence of a prosthetic index on Morse taper abutments did not influence the resistance to fracture.

A novel simplified method for assessing crystal length and crystalline content in dental ceramics.

The purpose of this study was to introduce a novel and simple method of evaluating the crystal length and crystalline content of lithium disilicate dental ceramics using images obtained from scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and analyzed with ImageJ (NIH) processing software. Three evaluators with varying experience levels assessed the average crystal length and percentage of crystalline content in four commercial lithium disilicate reinforced glass ceramic materials: IPS e.max (Ivoclar Vivadent), Rosetta SM (Hass), T-Lithium (Talmax), and IRIS CAD (Tianjin). The specimens, prepared from partially crystallized CAD/CAM blocks (3.0 mm3), were fully crystallized and treated with 5% hydrofluoric acid for 20 s prior to SEM analysis. After acquiring the SEM images, ImageJ software was used to evaluate the average crystal length and crystalline content on the surface of the different ceramics. An inter-operator agreement was observed (ICC/p = 0.724), indicating that assessments by the various operators were similar across all ceramic materials tested (p < 0.001). When crystal length and crystalline content were compared, IRIS CAD exhibited significant differences compared to the other materials (p < 0.001), showing a less dense crystalline matrix based on the average length of crystals and the percentage of crystals per unit area. The use of this software facilitated the evaluation of crystalline content and average crystal lengths in dental ceramics using SEM images, and demonstrated very low variability among different operators. RESEARCH HIGHLIGHTS: The described method, using ImageJ open-source software, provides precise and reliable measurements of crystal length and crystalline content in lithium disilicate ceramics, with high inter-operator agreement. The proposed method identified higher crystalline content in IPS e.max CAD compared to Rosetta SM CAD and T-lithium CAD ceramics, while IRIS CAD exhibited significantly lower crystalline content and larger average crystal length. The novel, simplified method for assessing crystal length and crystalline content presented in this study may also be useful for evaluating other dental ceramics.

O TRABALHO NOS CENTROS DE ATENÇÃO PSICOSSOCIAL EM UMA CAPITAL DO NORDESTE: LIMITES E DESAFIOS / THE WORK IN PSYCHOSOCIAL CARE CENTERS IN A CAPITAL OF THE NORTHEAST: LIMITS AND CHALLENGES / EL TRABAJO EN LOS CENTROS DE ATENCIÓN PSICOSOCIAL EN UNA CAPITAL DEL NORDESTE: LÍMITES Y DESAFÍOS

As equipes de trabalho dos Centros de Atenção Psicossocial têm enfrentado diversos desafios para efetivarem as novas proposições das práticas no enfoque da reabilitação psicossocial. A pesquisa teve como objetivo conhecer como esses trabalhadores avaliam suas práticas e as novas estratégias de cuidado desenvolvidas em quatro serviços de Maceió, Alagoas. Trata-se de estudo descritivo, exploratório, de abordagem qualitativa, sendo a análise dos dados realizada sob o referencial da análise de conteúdo. Foram entrevistados 19 profissionais de nível superior de diversas categorias entre os meses de maio a agosto de 2013. A análise das falas resultou em quatro principais categorias temáticas: Limites e desafios dos serviços; Exercício da reabilitação psicossocial; Entre as ações individuais e grupais; Entre as ações institucionais e territoriais. Pôde-se concluir que existe o reconhecimento da contribuição das novas práticas no cuidado e na reabilitação dos usuários desses serviços, porém foi possível detectar fragilidade e fragmentação das atividades e sobrecarga no trabalho, resultando em estagnação dos processos de trabalho nesses serviços.

The work teams of mental health services have faced many challenges to actualize the new practices propositions in addressing the psychosocial rehabilitation. The objective of the research was to cognize how these workers evaluate their practices and the new strategies of care developed in four services in Maceió, Alagoas. It is a descriptive, exploratory study of qualitative approach. Interviews were conducted with 19 higher education professionals from many categories from May to August 2013. The analysis of the speeches resulted in four major thematic categories: Limits and Challenges of the Services; Exercise of Psychosocial Rehabilitation; Between individual and group activities; and Among the institutional and territorial actions. It was possible to conclude that there is a recognition of the contribution that new practices have accomplished in the care and rehabilitation of users of these services, however, it could be detected weakness and fragmentation of activities and work overload, resulting in stagnation of the work processes in these services.

Los equipos de trabajo de los centros de atención psicosocial se han enfrentado a muchos desafíos para actualizar las nuevas prácticas de proposiciones en el tratamiento de la rehabilitación psicosocial. La investigación tuvo como objetivo conocer cómo esos trabajadores evalúan sus prácticas y las nuevas estrategias de cuidado desarrolladas en cuatro servicios de Maceió, Alagoas. Se trata de un estudio descriptivo, exploratorio de abordaje cualitativo. Entrevistaron a 19 profesionales con títulos universitarios en diversas categorías durante los meses de mayo hasta agosto 2013. El análisis de los discursos resultó en cuatro principales categorías temáticas: Límites y desafíos de Servicios; Ejercicio de Rehabilitación Psicosocial; Entre las acciones individuales y colectivas; y Entre las acciones institucionales y territoriales. Se podría concluir que hay un reconocimiento de la contribución que las nuevas prácticas sen el cuidado y la rehabilitación de los usuarios de estos servicios, sin embargo, fue posible detectar la debilidad y la fragmentación de las actividades y la sobrecarga de trabajo, lo que resulta en el estancamiento de los procesos de trabajo en estos servicios.
