RESUMO

Because of the strategic role they play and the important contribution they make to health and social services establishments, nurses are being asked more frequently to participate as members of administrative boards. The author illustrates, in a legislative context, the public-centred approach at the heart of health and social service reform in Quebec. The author outlines a specific role for these administrative boards in establishing a new health and social service system. The trends and principles that guide the nurse members of the administrative board are clearly identified. The author also describes the role of the Conseil des infirmières et infirmiers (CII) du Québec, in providing a consultative role within the public health sector. This new authority allows for nursing input, recommendations and opinions about scientific and technical data.
