RESUMO

Cognitive Disengagement Syndrome (CDS) is a cluster of behavioral problems that severely affect an individual's functioning. Currently, there is no consensus on the main clinical features of CDS, and further exploration in large samples is needed. Using a cluster-stratified random sampling method, 72,106 children and adolescents were recruited from five provinces in mainland China for this study. Using both the traditional two-factor scoring method and the CBCL DSM-oriented scales, we assessed individual behavioral problems from psychopathological and DSM-oriented perspectives. Network analysis was employed to explore the relationship between CDS and behavioral problems. The various networks were compared by gender and age subgroups. Among 72,106 participants (mean age, 11.49 years; minimum age, 5 years; maximum age, 16 years), there were 36,449 males (50.5%) and 35,657 females (49.5%). From a psychopathological perspective, the motor symptoms node was associated with the sad node and the withdrawn node, while the cognitive symptoms node was linked to the nervous node and the self-conscious node. In terms of gender, males had stronger associations of the motor symptoms node with the sad node and the withdrawn node than females (P = 0.043), and weaker associations of the cognitive symptoms node with the nervous node than females (P = 0.027). In terms of growth stage, the adolescent group had stronger associations of the cognitive symptoms node with the nervous node and the self-conscious node than the child group (P = 0.016, 0.001). From DSM perspective, motor symptoms node were associated with sad node, and cognitive symptoms node were related to can't concentrate node, nervous node, and worthless node. With increasing age, there was an upward trend in the strength of the cognitive and motor symptoms node. CDS is closely linked to psychological and behavioral issues, especially internalizing problems, with differences observed by gender and growth stage. The connection between CDS and the affective, anxiety, and ADH symptoms is particularly pronounced.

RESUMO

The Motor tic, Obsessions and Compulsions, Vocal tic Evaluation Survey (MOVES) is a widely used screening tool for Tourette syndrome (TS) and associated comorbidities. This study evaluated its applicability for children in China using 7,125 participants from the National Center for Children's Health (Beijing). Psychometric evaluations included exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis, yielding a 16-item, four-factor model that explained 55.11% of the variance and demonstrated good internal consistency (Cronbach's alpha = 0.88) and test-retest reliability (ICC = 0.86). The scale showed strong convergent, discriminant, and criterion-related validity and was significantly correlated with other established TS scales. The results affirm the reliability and validity of the MOVES for screening TS in Asian contexts, addressing a crucial gap in the region's TS assessment tools.

RESUMO

Some soils in the Yueliangbao gold mining area have been contaminated by heavy metals, resulting in variations in vegetation. Hyperspectral remote sensing provides a new perspective for heavy metal inversion in vegetation. In this paper, we collected ground truth spectral data of three dominant vegetation species, Miscanthus floridulus, Equisetum ramosissimum and Eremochloa ciliaris, from contaminated and healthy non-mining areas of the Yueliangbao gold mining region, and determined their heavy metal contents. Firstly, we compared the spectral characteristics of vegetation in the mining and non-mining areas by removing the envelope and derivative transformation. Secondly, we extracted their characteristic identification bands using the Mahalanobis distance and PLS-DA method. Finally, we constructed the inverse model by selecting the vegetation index (such as the PRI, DCNI, MTCI, etc.) related to the characteristic band combined with the heavy metal content. Compared to previous studies, we found that the pollution level in the Yueliangbao gold mining area had greatly reduced, but arsenic metal pollution remained a serious issue. Miscanthus floridulus and Eremochloa ciliaris in the mining area exhibited obvious arsenic stress, with a large "red-edge blue shift" (9 and 6 nm). The extracted characteristic wavebands were around 550 and 680-740 nm wavelengths, and correlation analysis showed significant correlations between vegetation index and arsenic, allowing us to construct a prediction model for arsenic and realize the calculation of heavy metal content using vegetation spectra. This provides a methodological basis for monitoring vegetation pollution in other gold mining areas.

RESUMO

Vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) is a key mediator of angiogenesis, which plays a key role in the proliferation, migration and invasion of endothelial cell. Bisdemethoxycurcumin (BDMC) is a natural demethoxy curcumin derivative. In this study, we explored the mechanisms whereby BDMC is able to influence the proliferative, migratory and invasive activity of human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs) in response to VEGF treatment. These experiments revealed that BDMC at 10 and 20 µM suppressed HUVECs proliferation in response to VEGF (10 ng/mL) without impacting the proliferation in absence of VEGF. BDMC treatment also signifantly suppressed VEGF-induced migratory and invasive activity in HUVECs. However, the selective AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK) inhibitor compound C (3 µM) treatment signifantly reversed all of these effects. Flow cytometric assay showed BDMC treatment was found to induce G0/G1 phase cell cycle arrest. Western blotting further indicated that BDMC treatment increased the ratios of p-AMPK/AMPK and LC3B/LC3A, up-regulated the expression of Beclin-1, decreased the ratio of p-mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR)/mTOR, down-regulated the expression of cyclin D1 and CDK4. Overall, these data suggested that BDMC may exert benefical effect on HUVECs activation by activating autophagy and inducing cell cycle arrest through regulation of the AMPK/mTOR pathway, which could provide a potential compound candidate for the treatment of diseases related to VEGF overproduction.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: The presence of circulating antinuclear antibodies (ANAs) is a hallmark of immune dysregulation in patients with systemic sclerosis (SSc). OBJECTIVE: A variety of ANAs are associated with unique sets of disease manifestations and are widely used in clinical practice in SSc. This study aimed to investigate the clinical features of SSc patients negative for ANAs in a Chinese Rheumatism Data Center (CRDC) multicenter cohort in China. METHODS: Patients were prospectively recruited between April 2008 and June 2019 from 154 clinical centers nationwide, and all cases fulfilled the 2013 ACR/EULAR classification criteria for systemic sclerosis. Results for antinuclear antibodies were intensively collected. Demographic, clinical, and laboratory data were compared between ANA-positive SSc patients and those negative for ANAs. RESULTS: Antinuclear antibodies were detected in 2129 of 2809 patients enrolled in the study; 4.2% of patients were negative. There were more males among ANA-negative SSc patients (29/60 vs. 294/1746, p < 0.001). The incidence of certain critical organ involvement, including gastroesophageal reflux (5.6% vs. 18.5%, p = 0.002), interstitial lung disease (65.2% vs. 77.9%, p = 0.015), and pulmonary arterial hypertension (11.5% vs. 29.0%, p = 0.006) was significantly lower in ANA-negative patients than in ANA-positive patients. The proportion of abnormal erythrocyte sedimentation rate (32.4% vs. 47.6%, p = 0.013) and IgG elevation (14.3% vs. 37.0%, p = 0.003), an indicator of disease activity, was significantly lower in ANA-negative patients than in ANA-positive patients. CONCLUSION: Antinuclear antibodies are strongly associated with the clinical manifestations of systemic sclerosis, with ANA-negative SSc patients tending to exhibit relatively milder disease.

RESUMO

A novel compact ultra-high sensitivity optical fiber temperature sensor based on surface plasmon resonance (SPR) is proposed and demonstrated. The sensor is fabricated by employing a helical-core fiber (HCF), which is polished as a D-type fiber on the helical-core region and coated with a layer of Au-film and polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS). The theoretical and experimental results show that the resonant wavelength and sensitivity of the proposed sensor can be effectively adjusted by changing the twisting pitch of HCF. Due to the high refractive index sensitivity of the sensor and the high thermo-optic coefficient of PDMS, the maximum sensitivity can reach -19.56 nm/°C at room temperature when the twist pitch of HCF is 2.1 mm. It is worth noting that the sensitivity can be further improved by using a shorter pitch of HCF. The proposed SPR temperature sensor has adjustable sensitivity, is easy to realize distributed sensing, and has potential application prospects in biomedical, healthcare, and other fields.

RESUMO

Ischemic postconditioning (PostC) conventionally refers to a series of brief blood vessel occlusions and reperfusions, which can induce an endogenous neuroprotective effect and reduce cerebral ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) injury. Depending on the site of adaptive ischemic intervention, PostC can be classified as in situ ischemic postconditioning (ISPostC) and remote ischemic postconditioning (RIPostC). Many studies have shown that ISPostC and RIPostC can reduce cerebral IS injury through protective mechanisms that increase cerebral blood flow after reperfusion, decrease antioxidant stress and anti-neuronal apoptosis, reduce brain edema, and regulate autophagy as well as Akt, MAPK, PKC, and KATP channel cell signaling pathways. However, few studies have compared the intervention methods, protective mechanisms, and cell signaling pathways of ISPostC and RIPostC interventions. Thus, in this article, we compare the history, common intervention methods, neuroprotective mechanisms, and cell signaling pathways of ISPostC and RIPostC.

RESUMO

A novel pressure vector sensor based on a short section of PANDA fiber with an orthogonal optical path Sagnac interferometer structure is proposed and experimentally demonstrated. The sensor structure was realized using a gold film, coated on the end of the fiber tip through the magnetron sputtering method. The birefringence-dependent interference dip is sensitive to external force. Therefore, pressure can be monitored by this sensor. The relationship between the force direction and the pressure sensitivity was studied. We embedded the sensor in aluminum, using ultrasonic consolidation technology, to investigate the application of its sensing properties in metal. Based on this, the influence of the embedding direction on the polarization characteristics of the fiber was analyzed. The experimental results showed that the sensor offered a high sensitivity of 2330 pm/(N·m) in its freeform and 780 pm/(N·m) after being embedded in aluminum. Due to its simple fabrication process, low cost, and high sensitivity, the pressure sensor described in this paper could be a competitive candidate in several pressure sensing applications.

RESUMO

A tungsten disulfide (WS2) coated surface plasmon resonance (SPR) sensor based on gradient pitch Mach-Zehnder interferometer (GP-MZI) for measuring ethanol vapor concentration is proposed and verified by experiments. Under continuous CO2 laser heating, a MZI based on GP helix structure is fabricated by twisting single mode fiber (SMF), which can excites multi-order cladding modes. A gold film is deposited on the surface of the GP helix structure by a magnetic sputtering coating machine. WS2 film is coated on the gold film of the GP helix structure, which increases the evanescent field strength of the twisted structure surface and enhances the interaction between SPR wave and ethanol molecules. Since the absorption of ethanol molecules by WS2 sheets will cause the change of effective refractive index (RI) of WS2 film, the intensity of transmission signal can be adjusted accordingly. For multi-order cladding modes, the effective RI and the effective thermo-optic coefficient vary with the modal order, so the RI and temperature sensitivity of different modal orders are also different. So, the ethanol vapor concentration, relative humidity (RH), and temperature can be simultaneously measured by monitoring the intensity of those dips with the resolution of ± 0.030 mg/L, ±0.035%RH, and ± 0.010 ℃, respectively. This sensor structure provides a promising platform for multi-parameter sensing applications.

RESUMO

The aim of this study is to embed PANDA fiber into metal aluminum by using the ultrasonic additive manufacturing (UAM) technique. The functional sensing characteristics of the metallic structure were realized by structure design, precise positioning, and laying of the optical fiber and a tip coating (gold film) technique. The sensing characteristics of the metallic structure sensor including temperature, bending, tensile straining, and twist responses have been systematically investigated. Experimental results show that moderate sensitivity, good repeatability, and exactly linear spectral responses are obtained with -476.2pm/∘C for temperature, 1304pm/m-1 for bending, 0.6314pm/µÎµ for tensile straining, and -332.3pm/(rad/m) for twisting. Based on its simple fabrication process and multifunctional measurement, it is clearly demonstrated that the metallic matrix structure with embedded PANDA fiber produced by the UAM technique is a functional structure with capabilities to monitor the structure health conditions and mechanical operation changes in applications.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Making decisions in alignment techniques in total knee arthroplasty (TKA) remains controversial. This study aims to identify the potential patients who were suitable for the kinematic (KA) or mechanical alignment (MA). METHODS: We reviewed 296 consecutive patients (296 TKAs, including 114 KA-TKAs and 182 MA-TKAs) who underwent unilateral TKA using a computer-assisted navigation from 2016 to 2018 in our prospectively maintained database. The minimum followup was 1 year. Clinical outcomes including the range of motion (ROM) and knee society score (KSS) were compared between KA-TKAs and MA-TKAs. Multiple regression models were used to evaluate the relationship between alignment techniques and KSS at the 1-year followup. Interaction and stratified analyses were conducted according to gender, age, body mass index (BMI), preoperative hip-knee-ankle (HKA) angle, ROM and KSS. RESULTS: ROM and KSS at the 1-year followup didn't differ between MA-TKAs and KA-TKAs (all p > 0.05). Alignment techniques did not associate with postoperative ROM (Adjusted ß = 0.4, 95% confidence interval [CI]: - 0.3, 1.6; p = 0.752) or 1-year KSS (Adjusted ß = 2.2, 95%CI: - 0.7, 5.6; p = 0.107). Patients with a BMI more than 30 kg/m^2 achieved better 1-year KSS when using MA than KA (p for interaction< 0.05). Additionally, patients with preoperative HKA angle more than 10 degrees varus benefited more from KA than MA (p for interaction< 0.05). CONCLUSIONS: Patients with severe varus deformity may be suitable for the KA technique, whereas MA should be used in obese patients.

RESUMO

With the dramatic increase of connected devices, the Internet of things (IoT) paradigm has become an important solution in supporting dense scenarios such as smart cities. The concept of heterogeneous networks (HetNets) has emerged as a viable solution to improving the capacity of cellular networks in such scenarios. However, achieving optimal load balancing is not trivial due to the complexity and dynamics in HetNets. For this reason, we propose a load balancing scheme based on machine learning techniques that uses both unsupervised and supervised methods, as well as a Markov Decision Process (MDP). As a use case, we apply our scheme to enhance the capabilities of an urban IoT network operating under the LoRaWAN standard. The simulation results show that the packet delivery ratio (PDR) is increased when our scheme is utilized in an unbalanced network and, consequently, the energy cost of data delivery is reduced. Furthermore, we demonstrate that better outcomes are attained when some techniques are combined, achieving a PDR improvement of up to about 50% and reducing the energy cost by nearly 20% in a multicell scenario with 5000 devices requesting downlink traffic.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Alcohol abuse is a serious health problem worldwide that causes a variety of physical and mental disorders. Research has shown that the brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) plays an important role in alcohol addiction. The BDNF precursor (proBDNF) exhibits different actions than BDNF through separate receptors and pathways in the central nervous system. However, the effects of proBDNF and BDNF in alcohol addiction are not fully known. OBJECTIVES: The objective was to identify the expression patterns and effects of proBDNF and BDNF after chronic alcohol exposure. METHODS: A total of 40 male adult mice were studied. A mouse psychomotor sensitization (PS) model was established to explore the effects of BDNF and proBDNF treatment following chronic alcohol exposure. Reverse transcription PCR (RT-PCR) was performed to measure mRNA levels for BDNF, TrkB, P75NTR, and sortilin in the prefrontal cortex, hippocampus, and dorsal striatum of Kunming mice after chronic alcohol exposure. RESULTS: In Kunming mice, chronic alcohol exposure up-regulated BDNF and TrkB mRNA levels in the prefrontal cortex, but decreased sortilin and P75 mRNA levels in the dorsal striatum. No changes in mRNA levels were found in other measured brain regions in the alcohol and control groups. CONCLUSION: Chronic alcohol exposure induced the region-specific expression of BDNF and proBDNF and their respective receptors in the brain. These results suggest that BDNF and proBDNF signaling pathways may play major roles in alcohol preference and addiction.

RESUMO

Efficient water splitting requires highly active, earth-abundant, and robust catalysts. Monometallic phosphides such as Ni2P have been shown to be active toward water splitting. Our theoretical analysis has suggested that their performance can be further enhanced by substitution with extrinsic metals, though very little work has been conducted in this area. Here we present for the first time a novel PH3 plasma-assisted approach to convert NiCo hydroxides into ternary NiCoP. The obtained NiCoP nanostructure supported on Ni foam shows superior catalytic activity toward the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) with a low overpotential of 32 mV at -10 mA cm-2 in alkaline media. Moreover, it is also capable of catalyzing the oxygen evolution reaction (OER) with high efficiency though the real active sites are surface oxides in situ formed during the catalysis. Specifically, a current density of 10 mA cm-2 is achieved at overpotential of 280 mV. These overpotentials are among the best reported values for non-noble metal catalysts. Most importantly, when used as both the cathode and anode for overall water splitting, a current density of 10 mA cm-2 is achieved at a cell voltage as low as 1.58 V, making NiCoP among the most efficient earth-abundant catalysts for water splitting. Moreover, our new synthetic approach can serve as a versatile route to synthesize various bimetallic or even more complex phosphides for various applications.

RESUMO

Polerovirus P0 suppressors of host gene silencing contain a consensus F-box-like motif with Leu/Pro (L/P) requirements for suppressor activity. The Inner Mongolian Potato leafroll virus (PLRV) P0 protein (P0(PL-IM)) has an unusual F-box-like motif that contains a Trp/Gly (W/G) sequence and an additional GW/WG-like motif (G139/W140/G141) that is lacking in other P0 proteins. We used Agrobacterium infiltration-mediated RNA silencing assays to establish that P0(PL-IM) has a strong suppressor activity. Mutagenesis experiments demonstrated that the P0(PL-IM) F-box-like motif encompasses amino acids 76-LPRHLHYECLEWGLLCG THP-95, and that the suppressor activity is abolished by L76A, W87A, or G88A substitution. The suppressor activity is also weakened substantially by mutations within the G139/W140/G141 region and is eliminated by a mutation (F220R) in a C-terminal conserved sequence of P0(PL-IM). As has been observed with other P0 proteins, P0(PL-IM) suppression is correlated with reduced accumulation of the host AGO1-silencing complex protein. However, P0(PL-IM) fails to bind SKP1, which functions in a proteasome pathway that may be involved in AGO1 degradation. These results suggest that P0(PL-IM) may suppress RNA silencing by using an alternative pathway to target AGO1 for degradation. Our results help improve our understanding of the molecular mechanisms involved in PLRV infection.

RESUMO

Gold (Au) nanoholes are fabricated with electron-beam lithography and used for the investigation of extraordinary transmission in mid-infrared regime. Transmission properties of the nanoholes are studied as the dependence on hole-size. Transmittance spectra are characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and enhanced transmittance through the subwavelength holes is observed. The transmission spectra exhibit well-defined maximum and minimum of which the position are determined by the lattice of the hole array. The hole-size primarily influence the transmission intensity and bandwidth of the resonance peak. With an increase of hole-size, while keep lattice constant fixed, the intensity of the resonance peak and the bandwidth increases, which are due to the localized surface plasmons. Numerical simulation for the transmission through the subwavelength holes is performed and the simulated results agree with the experimental observations.

RESUMO

With the rapid development of society and the economy, an increasing number of human activities have gradually destroyed the marine environment. Marine environment monitoring is a vital problem and has increasingly attracted a great deal of research and development attention. During the past decade, various marine environment monitoring systems have been developed. The traditional marine environment monitoring system using an oceanographic research vessel is expensive and time-consuming and has a low resolution both in time and space. Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) have recently been considered as potentially promising alternatives for monitoring marine environments since they have a number of advantages such as unmanned operation, easy deployment, real-time monitoring, and relatively low cost. This paper provides a comprehensive review of the state-of-the-art technologies in the field of marine environment monitoring using wireless sensor networks. It first describes application areas, a common architecture of WSN-based oceanographic monitoring systems, a general architecture of an oceanographic sensor node, sensing parameters and sensors, and wireless communication technologies. Then, it presents a detailed review of some related projects, systems, techniques, approaches and algorithms. It also discusses challenges and opportunities in the research, development, and deployment of wireless sensor networks for marine environment monitoring.

RESUMO

[ OBJECTIVE ] Investigation of ammonia-oxidizing archaea (AOA) in nature environments is important to understand the global nitrogen cycling. However, little is known about the AOA community in plateau wetland. Therefore, we studied the composition and diversity of AOA in Zoige plateau wetland swamp soil. [METHODS] Total DNA was extracted from the swamp soil of three typical wetlands including A'xi pastoral area, Maixi pastoral area and Fenqu pastoral area locate in Zoige plateau wetland, and amoA gene was amplified with universally AOA amoA gene primers and then cloned. Then 80 positive clones for each clone library were chosen for further restriction fragment length polymorphism (RFLP) analysis, and the typical RFLP types were selected for sequencing and clustered into operational taxonomic units (OTUs) at 98% cutoff using the Mothur software. The MEGA 5. 0 software was used for the amoA gene phylogeny analysis. [RESULTS] A total of 240 positive clones for all 3 libraries were used for RFLP analysis, and 15 specific amoA sequences were sequenced and clustered into 7 OTUs at 98% cutoff. Among them, OTU6 was detected in all of the 3 libraries and included 27% of the total specific clones. The phylogeny analysis showed that the 15 amoA sequences were grouped into 3 subgroups consisted of Zoige Wetland Clade 1 (4 OTUs), Zoige Wetland Clade 2 (2 OTUs) and Zoige Wetland Clade 3 (1 OTU). BLAST analysis showed that all OTUs were affiliated with the phylum Crenarchaeota. Correlation analysis showed that the Shannon diversity index (H') was significantly correlated with ammonia, nitrate/nitrite (P <0. 05). [ CONCLUSION] AOA in the Zoige plateau wetland swamp soil are all belonged to the Crenarchaeota, and their diversity is significantly correlated with soil ammonia, nitrate/nitrite content.

RESUMO

Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a highly prevalent and chronic inflammatory synovial joint disease manifested by hyperplasia and continuous inflammation. Curcumin (Cur) has been studied for alleviating RA. However, poor stability and oral bioavailability restrict its therapeutic value. Bisdemethoxycurcumin (BDMC), a curcumin (Cur) derivative, exerts better stability and oral bioavailability than Cur. However, the efficacy of BDMC on RA has not been fully clarified. The aim of the study was to investigate the therapeutic effects and underlying mechanisms of BDMC on RA. The in-vivo anti-arthritic activity of BDMC was determined via adjuvant-induced arthritis (AIA) rat model. Paw swelling, body weight, arthritic index, and histopathological assessments were performed. RAW264.7 cell was stimulated by lipopolysaccharides (LPS) in vitro. The cell viability were determined by CCK8 assay, while the migration ability was determined using cell wound healing and transwell assays. Furthermore, in-vivo and in-vitro levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines (TNF-α, IL-1ß and IL-6) were assayed by ELISA, and that of IκBα, p-NF-κB, NF-κB, and COX-2 were assessed via Western blot or immunofluorescence. In AIA rat model, it suggested a higher anti-arthritic activity of BDMC than Cur, including amelioration of swelling in hind paws, reduced arthritic index, and alleviated histopathological injury in rats. Furthermore, BDMC also substantially decreased the levels of the aforementioned pro-inflammatory cytokines in both in-vivo and in-vitro, inhibited the IκBα degradation, down-regulated the COX-2 levels and p-NF-κB/NF-κB ratio in AIA rats and LPS-stimulated RAW264.7 cells. Additionally, BDMC showed an inhibitory effect on the migration of LPS-stimulated RAW264.7 cells. BDMC could effectively ameliorate RA by suppressing inflammatory reactions and inhibiting macrophage migration, more potentially than Cur.
