RESUMO

Considering both ecological and social dimensions in the assessment of ecosystem services (ESs) can facilitate acceptable and inclusive management strategies, especially in peri-urban areas characterized by intricate human-ecosystem interactions. A limited body of research, however, has mapped the plural values of ESs and their different types of trade-offs in such areas. This research aimed to execute an interdisciplinary analysis of the biophysical and social values of ESs in peri-urban Shanghai, China, through a social-ecological approach that integrates spatial biophysical assessment with participatory mapping. Trade-off analysis in both ES types and ES valuations were then conducted, and multicriteria decision-making was applied for conservation. Our results reveal that trade-off intensities were lower within the social values compared to the biophysical values. Within both value dimensions, relatively stronger trade-offs were found between food production and other ESs. Areas with both high biophysical and social values were infrequently observed across ESs. Based on the characteristics of diverse values, our study identified priority conservation areas and provided management implications. We argue that adopting the integrated social-ecological perspective in sustainable environmental management contributes to the realization of harmonious coexistence between people and nature in peri-urban areas.

RESUMO

Maternal immune activation (MIA) is reported to increase the risk of psychiatric disorders in the offspring. However, the underlying mechanism remains unclear. Methods: We constructed a MIA mouse model by intraperitoneal injection of LPS into pregnant mice and evaluated the behaviors and gene expression profiles in the brains of the female and male offspring, respectively. Results: We found that the MIA female offspring exhibited increased anxiety and a large number of differentially expressed genes (DEGs) in the brain, which were enriched with candidate gene sets of psychiatric disorders and immune functions. In contrast, the MIA male offspring exhibited no significant abnormal behaviors and only a small number of DEGs that were not enriched with disease genes and immune functions. Therefore, we further pursued the downstream study on the molecular mechanism underlying the increased anxiety in the female offspring. We identified the lncRNA AU020206-IRFs-STAT1-cytokine axis by integrating lncRNA-protein interaction data and TF-promoter interaction data, and verified the axis in vitro and in vivo. Conclusion: This study illustrates that MIA upregulates the AU020206-IRFs-STAT1 axis in controlling the brain immunity linked to abnormal behaviors, providing a basis for understanding the role of MIA in psychiatric disorders.

RESUMO

Understanding the relationship between landscape ecological risk and ecosystem service value (ESV) is important for building an ecological security pattern and enhancing human well-being. Taking Fujian Province as the research area, based on the remote sensing monitoring data of land use in 1980, 2000, and 2020, we carried out a grid resampling size of 5 km × 5 km in the study area, quantitatively evaluated the landscape ecological risk and ESV, and analyzed the spatio-temporal variations. The spatial correlation between landscape ecological risk and ESV was investigated by using the bivariate spatial autocorrelation analysis and the spatial regression models. The results showed that the landscape ecological risk level in Fujian Province changed from medium level to low level, with the situation being improved. The landscape ecological risk level was generally higher in the east region and lower in the west region. ESV generally declined. The functional structure of each ecosystem was relatively stable. ESV spread from high to low with high value area as the core. There was a significant negative spatial correlation between landscape ecological risk and ESV. Landscape ecological risk had a negative effect on ecosystem total ser-vice value, with the strongest impact on the supply function.
