BACKGROUND: Dendritic cells (DCs) regulate the immune response associated with T lymphocytes, but their role in stroke remains unclear. In this study, we investigated the causal relationship between DCs and T-cell response in intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) by focusing on TLRs (toll-like receptors) that may modulate the function of DCs. METHODS: We studied the effects of TLR4, TLR2, and TLR9 on DC-mediated T-cell response and the outcomes of ICH using male C57BL/6 and CD11c-DTx (diphtheria toxin) receptor mice. We administered specific agents intraperitoneally or orally and evaluated the results using flow cytometry, real-time polymerase chain reaction, Western blotting, immunofluorescence staining, histopathology, and behavioral tests. RESULTS: TLR4 and TLR2 activation induces DC maturation and reduces the ratio of regulatory T to T-helper 17 cells in the brain and periphery after ICH. When either of these receptors is activated, it can worsen neuroinflammation and exacerbate ICH outcomes. TLR9 also promotes DC maturation, stabilizing the number of DCs, particularly conventional DCs. TLR9 has the opposite effects on regulatory T/T-helper 17 balance, neuroinflammation, and ICH outcomes compared with TLR4 and TLR2. Upon stimulation, TLR4 and TLR9 may achieve these effects through the p38-MAPK (p38-mitogen-activated protein kinase)/MyD88 (myeloid differentiation primary response gene 88) and indoleamine 2,3-dioxygenase 1 (IDO1)/GCN2 (general control nonderepressible 2) signaling pathways, respectively. DCs act as intermediaries for TLR-mediated T-cell response. CONCLUSIONS: TLR-mediated opposing effects of DCs on T-cell response may provide novel strategies to treat ICH.

BACKGROUND: Liver cancer is typified by a complex inflammatory tumor microenvironment, where an array of cytokines and stromal cells orchestrate a milieu that significantly influences tumorigenesis. Interleukin-17A (IL-17A), a pivotal pro-inflammatory cytokine predominantly secreted by Th17 cells, is known to play a substantial role in the etiology and progression of liver cancer. However, the precise mechanism by which IL-17A engages with hepatic stellate cells (HSCs) to facilitate the development of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) remains to be fully elucidated. This investigation seeks to unravel the interplay between IL-17A and HSCs in the context of HCC. METHODS: An HCC model was established in male Sprague-Dawley rats using diethylnitrosamine to explore the roles of IL-17A and HSCs in HCC pathogenesis. In vivo overexpression of Il17a was achieved using adeno-associated virus. A suite of molecular techniques, including RT-qPCR, enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays, Western blotting, cell counting kit-8 assays and colony formation assays, was employed for in vitro analyses. RESULTS: The study findings indicate that IL-17A is a key mediator in HCC promotion, primarily through the activation of hepatic progenitor cells (HPCs). This pro-tumorigenic influence appears to be mediated by HSCs, rather than through a direct effect on HPCs. Notably, IL-17A-induced expression of fibroblast activation protein (FAP) in HSCs emerged as a critical factor in HCC progression. Silencing Fap in IL-17A-stimulated HSCs was observed to reverse the HCC-promoting effects of HSCs. CONCLUSIONS: The collective evidence from this study implicates the IL-17A/FAP signaling axis within HSCs as a contributor to HCC development by enhancing HPC activation. These findings bolster the potential of IL-17A as a diagnostic and preventative target for HCC, offering new avenues for therapeutic intervention.

Zinc finger protein 384 (ZNF384) rearrangement defined a novel subtype of B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (B-ALL). The prognostic significance of ZNF384 fusion transcript levels represented measurable residual disease remains to be explored. ZNF384 fusions were screened out in 57 adult B-ALL patients at diagnosis by real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction and their transcript levels were serially monitored during treatment. The reduction of ZNF384 fusion transcript levels at the time of achieving complete remission had no significant impact on survival, whereas its ≥2.5-log reduction were significantly associated with higher relapse free survival (RFS) and overall survival (OS) rates after course 1 consolidation (p = 0.022 and = 0.0083) and course 2 consolidation (p = 0.0025 and = 0.0008). Compared with chemotherapy alone, allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (allo-HSCT) significantly improved RFS and OS of patients with <2.5-log reduction after course 1 consolidation (p < 0.0001 and = 0.0002) and course 2 consolidation (p = 0.0003 and = 0.019), whereas exerted no significant effects in patients with ≥2.5-log reduction (all p > 0.05). ZNF384 fusion transcript levels after course 1 and course 2 consolidation strongly predict relapse and survival and may guide whether receiving allo-HSCT in adult B-ALL.

In addition to RUNX1::RUNX1T1 transcript levels, measurable residual disease monitoring using KIT mutant (KITmut ) DNA level is reportedly predictive of relapse in t (8; 21) acute myeloid leukemia (AML). However, the usefulness of KITmut transcript levels remains unknown. A total of 202 bone marrow samples collected at diagnosis and during treatment from 52 t (8; 21) AML patients with KITmut (D816V/H/Y or N822K) were tested for KITmut transcript levels using digital polymerase chain reaction. The individual optimal cutoff values of KITmut were identified by performing receiver operating characteristics curve analysis for relapse at each of the following time points: at diagnosis, after achieving complete remission (CR), and after Course 1 and 2 consolidations. The cutoff values were used to divide the patients into the KITmut -high (KIT_H) group and the KITmut -low (KIT_L) group. The KIT_H patients showed significantly lower relapse-free survival (RFS) and overall survival (OS) rates than the KIT_L patients after Course 1 consolidation (p = 0.0040 and 0.021, respectively) and Course 2 consolidation (p = 0.018 and 0.011, respectively) but not at diagnosis and CR. The <3-log reduction in the RUNX1::RUNX1T1 transcript levels after Course 2 consolidation was an independent adverse prognostic factor for RFS and OS. After Course 2 consolidation, the KIT_H patients with >3-log reduction in the RUNX1::RUNX1T1 transcript levels (11/45; 24.4%) had similar RFS as that of patients with <3-log reduction in the RUNX1::RUNX1T1 transcript levels. The combination of KITmut and RUNX1::RUNX1T1 transcript levels after Course 2 consolidation may improve risk stratification in t (8; 21) AML patient with KIT mutation.

Solar photocatalytic H2 production from lignocellulosic biomass has attracted great interest, but it suffers from low photocatalytic efficiency owing to the absence of highly efficient photocatalysts. Herein, we designed and constructed ultrathin MoS2-modified porous TiO2 microspheres (MT) with abundant interface Ti-S bonds as photocatalysts for photocatalytic H2 generation from lignocellulosic biomass. Owing to the accelerated charge transfer related to Ti-S bonds, as well as the abundant active sites for both H2 and ●OH generation, respectively, related to the high exposed edge of MoS2 and the large specific surface area of TiO2, MT photocatalysts demonstrate good performance in the photocatalytic conversion of α-cellulose and lignocellulosic biomass to H2. The highest H2 generation rate of 849 µmol·g-1·h-1 and apparent quantum yield of 4.45% at 380 nm was achieved in α-cellulose aqueous solution for the optimized MT photocatalyst. More importantly, lignocellulosic biomass of corncob, rice hull, bamboo, polar wood chip, and wheat straw were successfully converted to H2 over MT photocatalysts with H2 generation rate of 10, 19, 36, 29, and 8 µmol·g-1·h-1, respectively. This work provides a guiding design approach to develop highly active photocatalysts via interface engineering for solar H2 production from lignocellulosic biomass.

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the diagnostic values of serum platelet count (PC), mean platelet volume ratio (MPV), platelet count to mean platelet volume ratio (PVR), platelet to lymphocyte ratio (PLR), platelet to neutrophil ratio (PNR), PC/Albumin-globulin ratio (PC/AGR), and PC/C-reactive protein (PC/ CRP) in the diagnosis of periprosthetic joint infection (PJI). METHODS: The medical records were retrospectively analyzed of the 158 patients who had undergone hip or knee revisions from January 2018 to May 2022. Of them, 79 cases were diagnosed with PJI and 79 with aseptic loosening (AL). PJI was defined using the Musculoskeletal Infection Society criteria. The plasma levels of CRP, the erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR), PC, MPV, PVR, PLR, PNR, PC/AGR, and PC/CRP in the 2 groups were recorded and analyzed. In addition, tests were performed according to different joint types. The receiver operating characteristic curve was used to calculate the sensitivity and specificity of each indicator. The diagnostic value for each indicator was calculated according to the area under the curve (AUC). RESULTS: The PC, PVR, PLR and PC/AGR levels in the PJI group were significantly higher than those in the AL group, while PC/CRP levels were significantly lower (P < 0.001). The AUC for PC/CRP, and PC/AGR was 0.804 and 0.802, respectively, which were slightly lower than that of CRP (0.826) and ESR (0.846). ROC analysis for PC/CRP, and PC/AGR revealed a cut-off value of 37.80 and 160.63, respectively, which provided a sensitivity of 73.42% and 84.81% and a specificity of 75.95% and 65.82% for PJI. The area under the curve of PLR and PC was 0.738 and 0.702. The area under the curve values for PVR, PNR, and MPV were 0.672, 0.553, and 0.544, respectively. CONCLUSIONS: The results of this study suggest that PC, PLR, PC/CRP, and PC/AGR values do not offer significant advantages over ESR or CRP values when employed for the diagnosis of PJI. PVR, PNR, and MPV were not reliable in the diagnosis of PJI.

Plasma membrane (PM)-targeted fluorescent dyes have become an important tool to visualize morphological and dynamic changes in the cell membrane. However, most of these PM dyes are either too large and thus might potentially perturb the membrane and affect its functions or exhibit a short retention time on the cell membrane. The rapid internalization problem is particularly severe for PM dyes based on cationic and neutral hydrophobic fluorescent dyes, which can be easily transported into the cells by transmembrane potential and passive diffusion mechanisms. In this paper, we report a small but highly specific PM fluorescent dye, PM-1, which exhibits a very long retention time on the plasma membrane with a half-life of approximately 15 h. For biological applications, we demonstrated that PM-1 can be used in combination with protein labeling probes to study ectodomain shedding and endocytosis processes of cell surface proteins and successfully demonstrated that native transmembrane human carbonic anhydrase IX (hCAIX) is degraded via the ectodomain shedding mechanism. In contrast, hCAIX undergoes endocytic degradation in the presence of sheddase inhibitors. We believe that PM-1 can be a versatile tool to provide detailed insights into the dynamic processes of the cell surface proteins.

This study focuses on the systematic investigation of the microstructure, interfacial energy, and electronic structure of six BiOX/BiOY heterostructures constructed using four bismuth oxyhalide materials. Utilizing density functional theory (DFT) calculations, the study provides fundamental insights into the interfacial structure and properties of these heterostructures. The results indicate that the formation energies of BiOX/BiOY heterostructures decrease in the order of BiOF/BiOI, BiOF/BiOBr, BiOF/BiOCl, BiOCl/BiOBr, BiOBr/BiOI, and BiOCl/BiOI. BiOCl/BiBr heterostructures were found to have the lowest formation energy and were the most easily formed. Conversely, the formation of BiOF/BiOY heterostructures was observed to be unstable and difficult to achieve. Furthermore, the interfacial electronic structure analysis revealed that BiOCl/BiOBr, BiOCl/BiOI, and BiOBr/BiOI displayed opposite electric fields that facilitated electron-hole pair separation. Therefore, these research findings provide a comprehensive understanding of the mechanisms underlying the formation of BiOX/BiOY heterostructures and present theoretical guidance for the design of innovative and efficient photocatalytic heterostructures, with an emphasis on BiOCl/BiOBr heterostructures. This study highlights the advantages of distinctively layered BiOX materials and their heterostructures, which offer a wide range of band gap values, and demonstrates their potential for various research and practical applications.

OBJECTIVE: The study aims to compare differences among iliac bone flaps with different iliac crest orientations for the repair of mandibular defects with an aim to analyze their advantages, disadvantages, and effects. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Clinical data and computed tomography scans of all patients who underwent iliac bone flap repair of the mandible in Peking University School and Hospital of Stomatology from January 2016 to April 2021 were collected. Patients were divided into the iliac crest towards alveolar process (Group A) and the iliac crest towards mandibular inferior margin (Group B). Software was used to measure corresponding indicators. The results obtained for the groups were statistically analyzed. RESULTS: The study included 78 patients (25 and 53 in groups A and B, respectively). The symmetry of the LC-type defect was better in group A (p < 0.05). The all-bone width of the alveolar process side in group A was greater than 6 mm; in 15 cases of group B, the width was less than 6 mm (p < 0.05). The intermaxillary distance of two sites were higher in group B (p < 0.05). The bone cortical thickness was significantly thicker in group A (p < 0.05). CONCLUSION: One year after the mandibular body defect was reconstructed with a vascularized iliac bone flap, the iliac crest towards alveolar process group showed better bone symmetry, width, intermaxillary distance, and cortical thickness to meet the planting requirements. CLINICAL RELEVANCE: The use of an iliac crest towards alveolar process may be a better approach for mandible reconstruction.

The connexin gene family is the most prevalent gene that contributes to hearing loss. Connexins 26 and 30, encoded by GJB2 and GJB6, respectively, are the most abundantly expressed connexins in the inner ear. Connexin 43, which is encoded by GJA1, appears to be widely expressed in various organs, including the heart, skin, the brain, and the inner ear. The mutations that arise in GJB2, GJB6, and GJA1 can all result in comprehensive or non-comprehensive genetic deafness in newborns. As it is predicted that connexins include at least 20 isoforms in humans, the biosynthesis, structural composition, and degradation of connexins must be precisely regulated so that the gap junctions can properly operate. Certain mutations result in connexins possessing a faulty subcellular localization, failing to transport to the cell membrane and preventing gap junction formation, ultimately leading to connexin dysfunction and hearing loss. In this review, we provide a discussion of the transport models for connexin 43, connexins 30 and 26, mutations affecting trafficking pathways of these connexins, the existing controversies in the trafficking pathways of connexins, and the molecules involved in connexin trafficking and their functions. This review can contribute to a new way of understanding the etiological principles of connexin mutations and finding therapeutic strategies for hereditary deafness.

PURPOSE: Curcumin has shown anti-tumor activity in multiple malignancies. The aim of our study was to explore the molecular mechanism behind the anti-tumor activity of curcumin in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). METHODS: The proliferation, migration, invasion, and apoptosis were analyzed by 5-ethynyl-2'-deoxyuridine (EDU) assay, transwell migration assay, transwell invasion assay, and flow cytometry. Western blot assay and reverse transcription-quantitative polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR) were conducted to analyze protein and RNA expression. Dual-luciferase reporter assay, RNA immunoprecipitation (RIP) assay, and RNA-pull down assay were performed to confirm the interaction between microRNA-378b (miR-378b) and circular RNA_0078710 (circ_0078710) or DNA primase, polypeptide 2 (PRIM2). Tumor xenograft assay was conducted to assess the roles of curcumin and circ_0078710 in vivo. RESULTS: Curcumin stimulation restrained the proliferation, migration, and invasion, and triggered the apoptosis of HCC cells. Curcumin down-regulated the expression of circ_0078710 in HCC cells in a dose-dependent manner. Circ_0078710 knockdown aggravated curcumin-mediated anti-tumor effects in HCC cells. Circ_0078710 acted as a molecular sponge for miR-378b. Circ_0078710 interference-induced effects in curcumin-stimulated HCC cells were partly abolished by the silence of miR-378b. MiR-378b bound to the 3' untranslated region (3'UTR) of PRIM2. PRIM2 overexpression partly reversed circ_0078710 interference-mediated influences in curcumin-treated HCC cells. Circ_0078710 silencing aggravated curcumin-mediated suppressive effect in tumor growth in vivo. CONCLUSIONS: Circ_0078710 silencing aggravated curcumin-mediated anti-tumor effects through mediating the miR-378b/PRIM2 signaling in HCC cells.

Antibiotics are one of the important factors that can alter the diversity and composition of ocular surface microbiota. At present, there are a few studies about the antibiotic effect on ocular surface microbiota, including its time-dependent changes. However, these limited studies have revealed various results, and more experiments are required. In this study, we used 16 S rRNA sequencing method to investigate the effects of topical ceftazidime and tobramycin-vancomycin mixtures on the ocular surface microbiota and the temporal changes of the microbiota after discontinuing antibiotic treatment in rabbits. Seventeen healthy rabbits were treated with 5% ceftazidime and a mixture of 0.3% tobramycin-5% vancomycin (CTV) eye drops on one eye four times a day for 7 days. Swab samples of conjunctiva sacs were collected before antibiotic treatment (D0), 12 h after the last antibiotic treatment (D8) and two further time points on Day 15 (D15) and Day 30 (D30). We found that the species diversity of the ocular surface microbiota increased significantly at D8 and was restored at D15, namely, one week after antibiotic cessation. The community structure of the ocular surface microbiota changed after treatment with CTV but recovered at D30. At D8, the relative abundances of 13 bacterial phyla of the initial top 20 phyla and 11 bacterial genera of the initial top 20 genera were significantly different from the relative abundances of the phyla and genera at D0. Furthermore, the relative abundance of the dominant phylum Epsilonbacteraeota obviously decreased, while Proteobacteria and Bacteroidetes markedly increased. For dominant genera, the relative abundance of Helicobacter notably decreased, while Acinetobacter and Pasteurella greatly increased. Thirteen altered bacterial phyla and 7 of 11 altered bacterial genera recovered to preantibiotic levels at D30. In addition, there was a group of nondominant and rare bacteria enriched at D8, and most of them were restored at D30. In conclusion, the species diversity, community structure and composition of the ocular surface microbiota changed greatly after exposure to CTV, but they tended to be restored within weeks after discontinuing antibiotic treatment.

Flexible piezoresistive sensors have demonstrated great potential in human-motion-detection applications. However, it still remains a challenge to fabricate strain sensors with high sensitivity, broad sensing range, and good linear response to strain. In this report, a simple and scalable fabrication strategy is developed to construct high performance strain sensors by using leather as the substrates to filtrate poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene): poly(4-styrenesulfonate) (PEDOT:PSS) modified layered double hydroxides (LDHs) suspensions. The naturally aligned collagen fibers in leather enable size selection for the 2D conductive materials and as such dual-conductive pathways are effectively formed on the surface and in the matrix of leather. Due to the unique design of conductive networks, the prepared sensor possesses high gauge factor (maximum value of 2326.84), tunable strain range (0-70%), fast tensile response time (160 ms), and good stability in 1000 stretching-relaxing/compression-relaxing cycles, making it suitable for various human motion detections including coughing and large-scale motions of joint bending. In addition, the incorporated LDHs is a non-toxic flame retardant, which is helpful to reduce electronic fire risk and can bring added value to the sensor.

Carbohydrate mouth rinsing (CMR) potentially affects the interval training performance of taekwondo athletes. This study explored the effect of CMR on vertical jump, kicking speed, and fatigue index before and after simulated taekwondo competition. In a crossover experimental design, 13 trained taekwondo athletes were randomly divided into the CMR and control trials. After warming up, the participants used 6.6% maltodextrin (CMR trial) or mineral water (control trial) to rinse their mouth. Next, the participants underwent tests of vertical jump, kicking speed, and maximum number of kicks. After the tests, the participants rinsed their mouth again, followed by using Wingate testing bikes for 5-s sprint and 25-s rest to simulate taekwondo competitions. Four repetitions were performed in each round for 2 min for a total of three rounds. The results revealed that the fatigue index of the participants in the CMR trial before and after the simulated competition was significantly lower than that of the control trial. However, the two trials differed nonsignificantly in their performance in vertical jump, kicking speed, and the simulated competition. Overall, the study results indicated that CMR reduces the fatigue index but no change was observed in performance for vertical jump, kicking speed, and the simulated competition of trained taekwondo athletes.

RESUMO

Electrical impedance tomography (EIT) is a radiation-free and noninvasive medical image reconstruction technique in which a current is injected and the reflected voltage is received through electrodes. EIT electrodes require good connection with the skin for data acquisition and image reconstruction. However, detached electrodes are a common occurrence and cause measurement errors in EIT clinical applications. To address these issues, in this study, we proposed a method for detecting faulty electrodes using the differential voltage value of the detached electrode in an EIT system. Additionally, we proposed the voltage-replace and voltage-shift methods to compensate for invalid data from the faulty electrodes. In this study, we present the simulation, experimental, and in vivo chest results of our proposed methods to verify and evaluate the feasibility of this approach.

The built-in electric field generated by polar materials is one of the most effective strategies to promote the separation of photogenerated electron-hole pairs in the field of photocatalysis. However, because of the complexity and diversity of the built-in electric field in polar materials, it is not clear how to enhance the photocatalytic performance and how to control the polar electric field effectively. To this end, four-layered bismuth oxyhalides, BiOX, and BiOXO3 (X = Br, I) were synthesized by a simple hydrothermal method. X-ray diffraction, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy analysis confirmed that they all have the structure characteristics of a sillenite phase. Scanning electron microscopy images show that they all have the morphology of nanosheets. Among them, BiOBrO3 was successfully synthesized and characterized for the first time in the present work. The order of photocatalytic performance (including carrier's lifetime, photocurrent density, and H2 evolution rate) of the four compounds is listed as follows: BiOBrO3 > BiOI > BiOIO3 > BiOBr. In the bulk of the BiOXO3 photocatalyst, the spontaneous polar built-in electric field along the [001] direction is the crucial factor to inhibit the recombination of photogenerated electron-hole pairs, while the surface polar electric field in BiOI can outstandingly inhibit the recombination of photogenerated electron-hole pairs due to the breaking of the mirror symmetry. Therefore, regulating the microstructure and composition of the structure unit, which generates the built-in electric field, can indeed control the magnitude, direction, and effects of built-in electric fields. In practice, we should carefully adjust the strategy according to the actual situation so as to reasonably design and use the polar electric field, giving full play to its role and enhancing the photocatalytic performance.

RESUMO

An enantioselective synthetic approach for preparing manginoids and guignardones, two types of biogenetically related meroterpenoids, is reported. This bioinspired and divergent synthesis employs an oxidative 1,3-dicarbonyl radical-initiated cyclization and cyclodehydration of the common precursor to forge the central ring of the manginoids and guignardones, respectively, at a late stage. Key synthetic steps include silica-gel-promoted semipinacol rearrangement to form the 6-oxabicyclo[3.2.1]octane skeleton and the Suzuki-Miyaura reaction of vinyl bromide to achieve fragment coupling. This synthesis protocol enables the asymmetric syntheses of four fungal meroterpenoids from commercially available materials.

Herein, we report a concise and collective total synthesis of three natural products aranorosinol A, aranorosinol B, and EI-2128-1 and also the known penicimutanolone. A unified strategy was conceived, which divergently accessed all four congeners within 9-11 steps (LLS) from a common intermediate. Bisoxirane-directed 1,2-addition was utilized as a key step to generate the desired configuration of the C8 stereocenter of aranorosinol A and B, 28 years after their first isolation, and these were both assigned as S configurations, while the C4' and C6' configurations of EI-2128-1 were both determined to be R,R-configurations.

Hydrothermal and solid-state reaction methods are commonly used to prepare the delafossite CuCrO2 photocatalyst. It has been reported that the photocatalytic performances of CuCrO2 samples prepared by these methods are quite different. In order to explore the possible influence of different preparation processes on the photocatalytic performance and the corresponding improvement strategies, this work compares the microstructure and physicochemical properties of the samples prepared by these two methods on the basis of optimizing the process conditions. A CuCrO2 sample prepared by a hydrothermal method is characterized by high purity, low crystallinity, small grain size, and relatively higher photocatalytic activity. A CuCrO2 sample prepared by a solid-state reaction method is characterized by low purity, high crystallinity, large grain size, and relatively lower photocatalytic activity. In combination with DFT calculations, it is confirmed that the CuCrO2 sample prepared by a solid-state reaction method contains a certain amount of interstitial oxygens. Due to the presence of interstitial oxygens, CuCrO2 has strong light absorption in the visible region, presents semimetallic ferromagnetism, and changes the carrier transport, reaction process, and rate on the electrode surface. These findings will contribute to the further development of efficient CuCrO2-based photocatalysts.

A divergent synthetic approach to biogenetically related diterpenoids such as ent-kauranes, ent-trachylobanes, ent-beyerane, and ent-atisane has been developed. The unified synthetic route involves the De Mayo reaction to rapidly generate the bicyclo[3.2.1]-octane moiety of ent-kaurane. The key reactions also include bioinspired nucleophilic cyclopropanation generating the [3.2.1.02,7 ]-tricyclic core of ent-trachylobane and regioselective cyclopropane fragmentation furnishing ent-beyerane and ent-atisane through the nucleophilic attack and protonation of the cyclopropane ring. This strategy enables the asymmetric total syntheses of six diterpenoids from the commercially available geraniol.
