The recent approval of omalizumab for the treatment of IgE-mediated food allergy is an important step forward for the millions of food allergy patients in the United States. Through the depletion of circulating IgE and the subsequent reduction of FcεR1 on key effector cells, patients increase their tolerance to food allergens. However, omalizumab does not permit patients to eat foods that they are allergic to with impunity. Rather, it protects them from most accidental exposures. In addition, omalizumab does not cure food allergy and has not demonstrated true immunomodulation. Thus, omalizumab might be a lifelong therapy for some patients. Furthermore, there are many important questions and issues surrounding the appropriate administration of omalizumab to treat food allergy, which we discuss. Managing treatment of patients with disease that falls outside the dosing range, assessing treatment response or nonresponse, addressing its appropriateness for patients older than 55, and determining whether immunotherapy plus omalizumab provides any advantage over omalizumab alone all need to be examined. Identifying appropriate patients for this therapy is critical given the cost of biologics. Indeed, not all food allergy patients are good candidates for this therapy. Also, when and how to stop omalizumab therapy in patients who may have outgrown their food allergy needs to be elucidated. Thus, although this therapy provides a good option for patients with food allergies, much information is needed to determine how best to use this therapy. Despite many unanswered questions and issues, we provide clinicians with some practical guidance on implementing this therapy in their patients.

The advent of affordable technology has significantly influenced the practice of digital pathology, leading to its growing adoption within the pathology community. This review article aimed to outline the latest developments in digital pathology, the cutting-edge advancements in artificial intelligence (AI) applications within this field, and the pertinent United States regulatory frameworks. The content is based on a thorough analysis of original research articles and official United States Federal guidelines. Findings from our review indicate that several Food and Drug Administration-approved digital scanners and image management systems are establishing a solid foundation for the seamless integration of advanced technologies into everyday pathology workflows, which may reduce device and operational costs in the future. AI is particularly transforming the way morphologic diagnoses are automated, notably in cancers like prostate and colorectal, within screening initiatives, albeit challenges such as data privacy issues and algorithmic biases remain. The regulatory environment, shaped by standards from the Food and Drug Administration, Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services/Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments, and College of American Pathologists, is evolving to accommodate these innovations while ensuring safety and reliability. Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services/Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments have issued policies to allow pathologists to review and render diagnoses using digital pathology remotely. Moreover, the introduction of new digital pathology Current Procedural Terminology codes designed to complement existing pathology Current Procedural Terminology codes is facilitating reimbursement processes. Overall, these advancements are heralding a new era in pathology that promises enhanced diagnostic precision and efficiency through digital and AI technologies, potentially improving patient care as well as bolstering educational and research activities.

The US Food and Drug Administration recognizes the unmet medical need for antibacterial drugs to treat serious bacterial diseases caused by resistant pathogens for which effective therapies are limited or lacking. The agency also recognizes that designing and conducting clinical trials to assess the safety and efficacy of drugs to treat resistant infections is challenging, especially for drugs only active against a single or a few bacterial species, and that a more flexible development program might be appropriate. In this article, we discuss several regulatory considerations for flexible development programs for antibacterial drugs intended to meet an unmet medical need. As an example, we use the recent approval of sulbactam for injection and durlobactam for injection (XACDURO) for the treatment of hospital-acquired bacterial pneumonia and ventilator-associated bacterial pneumonia caused by susceptible isolates of Acinetobacter baumannii-calcoaceticus complex.

Drug shortages have increasingly posed challenges to providers, pharmacists, and patients for more than 20 years. Regardless of the underlying causes, for which there does not appear to be a solution in sight, healthcare providers and patients must deal with the consequences. There is often conflicting and confusing information published that confuses everyone. This article describes the reasons for conflicting information from different sources.

In the realm of health care, numerous generative and nongenerative artificial intelligence and machine learning (AI-ML) tools have been developed and deployed. Simultaneously, manufacturers of medical devices are leveraging AI-ML. However, the adoption of AI in health care raises several concerns, including safety, security, ethical biases, accountability, trust, economic impact, and environmental effects. Effective regulation can mitigate some of these risks, promote fairness, establish standards, and advocate for more sustainable AI practices. Regulating AI tools not only ensures their safe and effective adoption but also fosters public trust. It is important that regulations remain flexible to accommodate rapid advances in this field to support innovation and also not to add additional burden to some of our preexisting and well-established frameworks. This study covers regional and global regulatory aspects of AI-ML including data privacy, software as a medical device, agency approval and clearance pathways, reimbursement, and laboratory-developed tests.

INTRODUCTION: Asciminib is primarily utilized for treating Philadelphia chromosome-positive chronic myeloid leukemia in its chronic phase among patients harboring the T315I mutation or those who have been previously treated with at least two tyrosine kinase inhibitors. The safety profile of asciminib across a broad patient population over an extended timeframe remains unverified. This study uses a real-world pharmacovigilance database to evaluate the adverse events (AEs) linked with asciminib, providing valuable insights for clinical drug safety. METHODS: Data from the FDA Adverse Event Reporting System (FAERS) database, spanning from October 2021 to December 2023, served as the basis for this analysis. The extent of disproportional events was assessed using sophisticated metrics such as the reporting odds ratio, proportional reporting ratio, information component, and empirical Bayesian geometric mean. RESULTS: Within the specified period, the FAERS database documented 3,913,574 AE reports, with asciminib being associated with 966 incidents. Reactions to asciminib spanned 27 system organ categories. Utilizing four distinct analytical algorithms, 663 significant preferred terms exhibiting disproportional frequencies were identified. Notably, this investigation uncovered 26 significant AEs linked to off-label asciminib use, encompassing conditions such as gynecomastia, nephrotic syndrome, orchitis, pyelonephritis, hepatotoxicity, and pancreatitis. The median onset time for asciminib-related AEs was 52.5 days, ranging from 17 to 122.75 days. CONCLUSION: The study sheds light on additional potential AEs associated with asciminib use, warranting further research to confirm these findings.

BACKGROUND AIMS: The goal of this study was to analyze online marketing representations made by 300 US businesses selling allogeneic perinatal stem cell products. The study was conducted after a period of enforcement discretion by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA). METHODS: Data mining and content analysis were used to identify, analyze and categorize marketing claims made on the websites of 300 businesses selling perinatal stem cell interventions. RESULTS: The study identified types of perinatal interventions companies advertised, geographic locations of clinics selling such products, types of companies operating in this space, diseases and injuries such businesses claim to treat, prices companies charge for such interventions, brand names of advertised perinatal cell products and identities of suppliers. CONCLUSIONS: A substantial number of US businesses market unapproved perinatal stem cell products for various indications. This widespread commercial activity occurred following the conclusion of a period of enforcement discretion by the FDA and suggests the need for more robust and comprehensive regulatory responses to businesses selling unapproved perinatal stem cell products.

BACKGROUND: Combining immune checkpoint and proton pump inhibitors is widely used in cancer treatment. However, the drug-drug interactions of these substances are currently unknown. This study aimed to explore drug-drug interactions associated with concomitant immune checkpoint and proton pump inhibitors. METHODS: Data were obtained from the US Food and Drug Administration Adverse Event Reporting System from 2014 to 2023. Disproportionality analysis was used for data mining by calculating the reporting odds ratios (RORs) with 95% confidence intervals (95%Cls). The adjusted RORs (RORadj) were then analysed using logistic regression analysis, considering age, sex, and reporting year. Drug-drug interactions occur when a combination treatment enhances the frequency of an event. Further confirmation of the robustness of the findings was achieved using additive and multiplicative models, which are the two statistical methodologies for signal detection of DDIs using spontaneous reporting system. RESULTS: The total number of reports on immune checkpoint combined with proton pump inhibitors was 4,276. Median patient age was 66 years (interquartile range [IQR]: 60-74 years). Significant interaction signals were observed for congenital, familial and genetic disorders (RORadj = 2.66, 95%CI, 1.38-5.14, additive models = 0.7322, multiplicative models = 3.5142), hepatobiliary disorders (RORcrude = 6.64, 95%CI, 5.82-7.58, RORadj = 7.10, 95%CI, 6.16-8.18, additive models = 2.0525, multiplicative models = 1.1622), metabolism and nutrition disorders (RORcrude = 3.27, 95%CI, 2.90-3.69, RORadj = 2.66, 95%CI, 2.30-3.08, additive models = 0.6194), and skin and subcutaneous tissue disorders (RORcrude = 1.41, 95%CI, 1.26-1.58, RORadj = 1.53, 95%CI, 1.34-1.75, additive models = 0.6927, multiplicative models = 5.3599). Subset data analysis showed that programmed death-1 combined with proton pump inhibitors was associated with congenital, familial, and genetic disorders; hepatobiliary disorders; and skin and subcutaneous tissue disorders. Programmed death ligand-1 combined with proton pump inhibitors was associated with adverse reactions of metabolism and nutrition disorders. Cytotoxic T-lymphocyte antigen-4 combined with proton pump inhibitors was associated with congenital, familial, and genetic disorders, and skin and subcutaneous tissue disorders. CONCLUSIONS: Based on real-world data, four Standardized MedDRA Query System Organ Class toxicities were identified as drug-drug interactions associated with combining immune checkpoint and proton pump inhibitors. Clinicians should be cautious when administering these drugs concomitantly. Preclinical trials and robust clinical studies are required to explore the mechanisms and relationships underlying interactions, thus improving understanding of drug-drug interactions associated with this combination therapy.

OBJECTIVE: To test for publication bias with alprazolam, the most widely prescribed benzodiazepine, by comparing its efficacy for panic disorder using trial results from (1) the published literature and (2) the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA). METHODS: From FDA reviews, we included data from all phase 2/3 efficacy trials of alprazolam extended-release (Xanax XR) for the treatment of panic disorder. A search for matching publications was performed using PubMed and Google Scholar. Publication bias was examined by comparing: (1) overall trial results (positive or not) according to the FDA v. corresponding publications; (2) effect size (Hedges's g) based on FDA data v. published data. RESULTS: The FDA review showed that five trials were conducted, only one of which (20%) was positive. Of the four not-positive trials, two were published conveying a positive outcome; the other two were not published. Thus, according to the published literature, three trials were conducted and all (100%) were positive. Alprazolam's effect size calculated using FDA data was 0.33 (CI95% 0.07-0.60) v. 0.47 (CI95% 0.30-0.65) using published data, an increase of 0.14, or 42%. CONCLUSIONS: Publication bias substantially inflates the apparent efficacy of alprazolam XR.

Policy Points Current medical device regulatory frameworks date back half a century and are ill suited for the next generation of medical devices that involve a significant software component. Existing Food and Drug Administration efforts are insufficient because of a lack of statutory authority, whereas international examples offer lessons for improving and harmonizing domestic medical device regulatory policy. A voluntary alternative pathway built upon two-stage review with individual component review followed by holistic review for integrated devices would provide regulators with new tools to address a changing medical device marketplace.

Policy Points With increasing public attention to cases of inaccurate and misleading laboratory-developed tests, there have been calls for regulatory reform. To protect patients from faulty laboratory tests, we need a framework that balances comprehensive test review with laboratory flexibility. The Verifying Accurate Leading-edge IVCT [In Vitro Clinical Test] Development (VALID) Act would have helped ensure laboratory test safety and validity through a much-needed expansion of Food and Drug Administration (FDA) oversight. However, Congress did not pass the VALID Act in 2022, forcing the FDA to start the regulatory reform process on its own.

Cardiovascular devices are essential for the treatment of cardiovascular diseases including cerebrovascular, coronary, valvular, congenital, peripheral vascular and arrhythmic diseases. The regulation and surveillance of vascular devices in real-world practice, however, presents challenges during each individual product's life cycle. Four examples illustrate recent challenges and questions regarding safety, appropriate use and efficacy arising from FDA approved devices used in real-world practice. We outline potential pathways wherein providers, regulators and payors could potentially provide high-quality cardiovascular care, identify safety signals, ensure equitable device access, and study potential issues with devices in real-world practice.

Culture media play an essential role in the success of IVF. Their composition has undergone major modifications over the 45 years since the birth of Louise Brown. Most IVF programmes now rely on commercially produced media, which they buy in small vials, guaranteed to be sterile and non-embryotoxic. Unfortunately, information about the components of the culture media and their concentrations is no longer available. Arguing that culture media recipes are proprietary, relevant commercial interests have stopped labelling their products with this vital information. Given the critical role that is played by culture media in the success of IVF, as well as the subsequent health of the children who are born after IVF, this information should not remain a 'company secret'. Clinicians and scientists working in IVF must insist that the labelling of culture media includes all of the constituents and their concentrations. Only in this way can we monitor the influence of culture media on IVF outcomes, innovate and continue to advance the field of IVF.

BACKGROUND: An imbalance of the antiangiogenic factor, soluble fms-like tyrosine kinase-1, and proangiogenic factor, placental growth factor, in the circulation is a reliable predictor for the development of preeclampsia with severe features and related adverse outcomes. In 2023, the US Food and Drug Administration approved a serum soluble fms-like tyrosine kinase-1/placental growth factor test at a cutoff of 40 to aid in the risk assessment of women hospitalized for hypertensive disorders of pregnancy for the progression to preeclampsia with severe features between 23 and 35 weeks. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to generate real-world evidence for clinical utility for serum soluble fms-like tyrosine kinase-1/placental growth factor test when made available to clinicians in a timely fashion as an aid in risk stratification of development of preeclampsia with severe features within 2 weeks of testing among hospitalized patients with hypertensive disorders of pregnancy. STUDY DESIGN: Hospitalized patients with hypertensive disorders of pregnancy between 23 weeks to 34 weeks and 6 days of gestation were prospectively studied from June 2023 to January 2024 after the implementation of serum soluble fms-like tyrosine kinase-1/placental growth factor testing into routine clinical practice. Serum samples were obtained from patients via venipuncture and analyzed on an automated immunoassay platform (placental growth factor and soluble fms-like tyrosine kinase-1 assays; Thermo Fisher Scientific). Before implementation, physicians were educated on appropriate use and management guidelines on the basis of biomarkers but made pragmatic management decisions independently. Results of soluble fms-like tyrosine kinase-1/placental growth factor tests were available to clinicians within 24 hours of venipuncture. The association between soluble fms-like tyrosine kinase-1/placental growth factor ≥40 and progression to preeclampsia with severe features and adverse maternal/perinatal outcomes were assessed. RESULTS: Of the 65 patient encounters, 36 had a soluble fms-like tyrosine kinase-1/placental growth factor <40 (55.4%). The rate of delivery for indications related to hypertensive disorders of pregnancy within 2 weeks was significantly lower among encounters with a low ratio vs high ratio (2/36 [5.6%] vs 21/29 [72.4%]) even after controlling for relevant confounders (adjusted hazard ratio, 7.52; 95% confidence interval, 3.05-18.54; P<.001). A diagnosis of preeclampsia with severe features within 2 weeks of testing was also less likely among the encounters with soluble fms-like tyrosine kinase-1/placental growth factor ratio <40 when compared with soluble fms-like tyrosine kinase-1/placental growth factor ratio ≥40 (2/36 [5.6%] vs 23/29 [79.3%], P<.001; positive predictive value of 79% [95% confidence interval, 0.65-0.94] and negative predictive value of 0.94 [95% confidence interval, 0.87-1.00]). The positive and negative likelihood ratios for the development of preeclampsia with severe features within 2 weeks of testing were 6.13 and 0.09, respectively. Encounters with a soluble fms-like tyrosine kinase-1/placental growth factor ratio <40 were less likely to experience a maternal or fetal adverse event as compared with encounters with soluble fms-like tyrosine kinase-1/placental growth factor ratio ≥40 (3/36 [8.3%] vs 10/29 [34.5%], P=.01). Among 36 encounters involving low soluble fms-like tyrosine kinase-1/placental growth factor values, 22 had had equivocal clinical or laboratory criteria resembling preeclampsia at presentation but were expectantly managed on the basis of biomarkers, and none developed preeclampsia with severe features or adverse outcomes at 2 weeks. The median latency defined as days between biomarker measurement and delivery in patients with a low biomarker ratio was 33 (interquartile ratio, 23-47) vs 7 (interquartile ratio, 4-14) days among patients with a high ratio (P<.001). Corticosteroid use within 2 weeks was also significantly reduced in the low biomarker group when compared with the high biomarker group (8/35 [22.9%] vs 24/29 [82.8%], P<.001). CONCLUSION: In this study, the incorporation of soluble fms-like tyrosine kinase-1/placental growth factor ratio into clinical practice serves as a dependable supplement in assessing risk for progression to preeclampsia with severe features and adverse outcomes in patients with hypertensive disorders of pregnancy in the United States. Among patients with a low ratio, pregnancy may be prolonged, which results in better neonatal outcomes without harm to the mother.

OBJECTIVES: This article examined the inclusion of patient-reported outcome (PRO) data in new drug applications (NDAs) submitted to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and approved from 2018 to 2021. The importance of assessing PROs, which capture patients' perspectives on the disease and treatment experience, has been underscored by many stakeholders, including regulatory authorities. Despite the increasing inclusion of PRO assessments in registration trials, inclusion of language related to PRO results in approved product labeling varies widely. METHODS: This study examined FDA submission packages for NDAs approved by the FDA from 2018 to 2021 to identify critical reviewer comments related to PROs. Comments were identified and categorized by the type of criticism. Reviewers considered both oncology and nononcology indications. RESULTS: Assessment of PROs was included in 66.2% of the 210 submissions reviewed. Critical comments were identified in 45.3% of these applications; comments most commonly related to statistical analysis considerations, fit for purpose, and study design. Other categories of critical comment included data quality, lack of treatment benefit, administrative considerations, and miscellaneous issues. Differences were observed between oncology and nononcology NDAs with regard to the number and type of comments included in each of these categories. The findings highlight the importance of planning statistical analyses, establishing content validity, carefully considering study design, maximizing data quality, and demonstrating treatment benefit, among other issues. CONCLUSIONS: Overall, this study offers insight into the landscape of PRO data included in recently approved NDAs, along with recommendations for improving the quality and reporting of PROs in clinical trials.

In December 2021, the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued the final guidance for industry titled Pathology Peer Review in Nonclinical Toxicology Studies: Questions and Answers. The stated purpose of the FDA guidance is to provide information to sponsors, applicants, and nonclinical laboratory personnel regarding the management and conduct of histopathology peer review as part of nonclinical toxicology studies conducted in compliance with good laboratory practice (GLP) regulations. On behalf of and in collaboration with global societies of toxicologic pathology and the Society of Quality Assurance, the Scientific and Regulatory Policy Committee (SRPC) of the Society of Toxicologic Pathology (STP) initiated a review of this FDA guidance. The STP has previously published multiple papers related to the scientific conduct of a pathology peer review of nonclinical toxicology studies and appropriate documentation practices. The objectives of this review are to provide an in-depth analysis and summary interpretation of the FDA recommendations and share considerations for the conduct of pathology peer review in nonclinical toxicology studies that claim compliance to GLP regulations. In general, this working group is in agreement with the recommendations from the FDA guidance that has added clear expectations for pathology peer review preparation, conduct, and documentation.

OBJECTIVE: Modification of the immune system with biologics raises theoretical concerns about the risk of infections but it is still unclear whether currently routinely used biologics in severe asthma may facilitate the development of pneumonia. Therefore, we aimed to determine whether omalizumab, mepolizumab, benralizumab, and dupilumab are associated with pneumonia in a real-world setting. METHODS: A retrospective disproportionality analysis was performed using adverse event (AE) reports submitted to FAERS from January 2020 to September 30, 2023. MedDRA was used to identify infections and infestations and then pneumonia cases. ROR and PRR were used to measure disproportionality. RESULTS: The percentage of reported cases of pneumonia compared to infections and infestations was highest for mepolizumab (36.8%), followed by omalizumab (32.6%), benralizumab (19.2%) and dupilumab (5.7%). We found a moderate or strong signal for increased risk of pneumonia with mepolizumab (ROR = 3.74, 95%CI 3.50-4.00), omalizumab (ROR = 3.26, 95%CI 3.06-3.49) and benralizumab (ROR = 2.65, 95%CI 2.49-2.83). CONCLUSIONS: Mepolizumab, omalizumab and benralizumab, but not dupilumab, were associated with high odds of reporting pneumonia. Our results represent only potential associations between these biologics and pneumonia but not causality. The nature of the FAERS database is such that the cause of the reported events is uncertain. Therefore, we can only roughly estimate the incidence of AEs by the signal strength (ROR value). Nevertheless, although causality could not be assessed, the signal from our study is interesting. We believe it deserves to be further substantiated by real-world studies with robust designs.

OBJECTIVE: Glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists (GLP1RAs), originally developed for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus, have attracted attention for their potential therapeutic benefits in asthma due to their anti-inflammatory properties and effects on airway smooth muscle function. However, concerns have been raised about the possibility of GLP1RAs inducing or exacerbating asthma symptoms. METHODS: We reviewed data from the US Food and Drug Administration's (FDA) adverse event (AE) reporting system (FAERS) to examine reports of cases of asthma observed in the real-world during treatment with GLP1RAs. RESULTS: Analysis of the FAERS reporting system database has shown that certain GLP1RAs, particularly exenatide, semaglutide and liraglutide, were associated with a higher proportion of respiratory AEs, particularly asthma or asthma-like events. This association was statistically significant at least for semaglutide and liraglutide. Serious asthma-related events and deaths were also reported, with exenatide having the highest proportion of deaths. CONCLUSIONS: The reasons for the observed differences in the AE profiles of the GLP1RAs remain unclear and may involve various factors such as pharmacological properties, patient characteristics and reporting biases. The complex interplay between the therapeutic benefits of GLP1RAs and the potential respiratory risks requires careful monitoring by clinicians, underpinned by ongoing research efforts to improve patient care and safety.

PURPOSE: Research and regulatory approval for pediatric uses of prescription drugs often lag years after adult approvals, during which time substantial off-label use of medications in children can occur. We evaluated whether US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulatory actions affected the pediatric use of omalizumab, a biologic drug used to treat asthma. METHODS: In this serial cross-sectional study, we identified quarterly cohorts of children (0-18 years) with moderate-to-severe asthma within two large national claims databases of those with commercial insurance and Medicaid from 2003 to 2019. Using an interrupted time-series analysis, we fit segmented linear regression models to identify changes in the incidence of omalizumab use in 6-11-year-old children compared with 12-18-year-olds after two time points: (1) 2009Q3 when an FDA advisory committee voted against use for 6-11-year-old children and (2) 2016Q2 when FDA expanded omalizumab's labeling to include 6-11-year-old children. RESULTS: We identified 9298 new pediatric omalizumab users (84% Medicaid). Among 6-11-year-old children, the incidence of omalizumab use did not change following the FDA's initial review of evidence in 2009 and increased after 2016 Q2 FDA approval for this age group in both Medicaid (58 per 100 000 children with asthma, 95% confidence interval [CI] 27-89, p < 0.001) and commercial insurance (57 per 100 000, 95% CI 21-94, p = 0.003) compared with 12-18-year-old children. CONCLUSIONS: The use of omalizumab among asthmatic children aged 6-11 years remained steady after FDA advisory committee concerns in 2009 and increased after FDA expanded the indication to include this population in 2016. Additional market incentives may help to ensure the timely generation of evidence and regulatory approval of medications for children.

BACKGROUND: Daptomycin is a lipopeptide antibiotic with a broad spectrum of activity against gram-positive bacteria. Although information on daptomycin-induced adverse events can be found in clinical trials, data regarding the impact of age on these events are insufficient. Therefore, we evaluated whether age affects the occurrence of daptomycin-induced adverse events using adverse drug event reports in post-marketing stages provided by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). METHODS: A total dataset of 7307 reports of patients treated with daptomycin in the FDA's Adverse Event Reporting System were analyzed. The patients were divided into seven age groups: 0-28 days, >28 days-23 months, 2-11 years, 12-17 years, 18-64 years, 65-80 years, and >80 years. A disproportionality analysis was conducted to calculate the reporting odds ratio, with a 95 % confidence interval. The univariate regression analysis was conducted using the percentage of each adverse event and age groups. RESULTS: Compared with the number of reports aged 18-64 years, there were significantly increased reports of eosinophilic pneumonia in patients aged 65-80 years and >80 years, anaphylactic reaction and pseudomembranous colitis in patients aged 12-17 years, and acute renal failure in patients aged 65-80 years. The regression coefficient for the reporting proportion of eosinophilic pneumonia was significantly positive. CONCLUSIONS: Our findings revealed age-related trends in daptomycin-induced adverse events, supporting the idea that implementing age-dependent follow-up and supportive care helps in the continuation of daptomycin therapy.
