RESUMEN

Egypt is among the world's largest producers of sugarcane. This crop is of great economic importance in the country, as it serves as a primary source of sugar, a vital strategic material. The pre-cutting planting mode is the most used technique for cultivating sugarcane in Egypt. However, this method is plagued by several issues that adversely affect the quality of the crop. A proposed solution to these problems is the implementation of a sugarcane-seed-cutting device, which incorporates automatic identification technology for optimal efficiency. The aim is to enhance the cutting quality and efficiency of the pre-cutting planting mode of sugarcane. The developed machine consists of a feeding system, a node scanning and detection system, a node cutting system, a sugarcane seed counting and monitoring system, and a control system. The current research aims to study the pulse widths (PW) of three-color channels (R, G, and B) of the RGB color sensors under laboratory conditions. The output PW of red, green, and blue channel values were recorded at three color types for hand-colored nodes [black, red, and blue], three speeds of the feeding system [7.5 m/min, 5 m/min, and 4.3 m/min], three installing heights of the RGB color sensors [2.0 cm, 3.0 cm, and 4.0 cm], and three widths of the colored line [10.0 mm, 7.0 mm, and 3.0 mm]. The laboratory test results s to identify hand-colored sugarcane nodes showed that the recognition rate ranged from 95% to 100% and the average scanning time ranged from 1.0 s to 1.75 s. The capacity of the developed machine ranged up to 1200 seeds per hour. The highest performance of the developed machine was 100% when using hand-colored sugarcane stalks with a 10 mm blue color line and installing the RGB color sensor at 2.0 cm in height, as well as increasing the speed of the feeding system to 7.5 m/min. The use of IoT and RGB color sensors has made it possible to get analytical indicators like those achieved with other automatic systems for cutting sugar cane seeds without requiring the use of computers or expensive, fast industrial cameras for image processing.

Aroma is among of the most important criteria that indicate the quality of food and beverage products. Aroma compounds can be found as free molecules or glycosides. Notably, a significant portion of aroma precursors accumulates in numerous food products as nonvolatile and flavorless glycoconjugates, termed glycosidic aroma precursors. When subjected to enzymatic hydrolysis, these seemingly inert, nonvolatile glycosides undergo transformation into fragrant volatiles or volatiles that can generate odor-active compounds during food processing. In this context, microbial ß-glucosidases play a pivotal role in enhancing or compromising the development of flavors during food and beverage processing. ß-glucosidases derived from bacteria and yeast can be utilized to modulate the concentration of particular aroma and taste compounds, such as bitterness, which can be decreased through hydrolysis by glycosidases. Furthermore, oral microbiota can influence flavor perception by releasing volatile compounds that can enhance or alter the perception of food products. In this review, considering the glycosidic flavor precursors present in diverse food and beverage products, we underscore the significance of glycosidases with various origins. Subsequently, we delve into emerging insights regarding the release of aroma within the human oral cavity due to the activity of oral microbial glycosidases.

The purpose of this study was the identification of genetic lineages and antimicrobial resistance (AMR) and virulence genes in Klebsiella pneumoniae isolates associated with severe infections in the neuro-ICU. Susceptibility to antimicrobials was determined using the Vitek-2 instrument. AMR and virulence genes, sequence types (STs), and capsular types were identified by PCR. Whole-genome sequencing was conducted on the Illumina MiSeq platform. It was shown that K. pneumoniae isolates of ST14K2, ST23K57, ST39K23, ST76K23, ST86K2, ST218K57, ST219KL125/114, ST268K20, and ST2674K47 caused severe systemic infections, including ST14K2, ST39K23, and ST268K20 that were associated with fatal incomes. Moreover, eight isolates of ST395K2 and ST307KL102/149/155 were associated with manifestations of vasculitis and microcirculation disorders. Another 12 K. pneumoniae isolates of ST395K2,KL39, ST307KL102/149/155, and ST147K14/64 were collected from patients without severe systemic infections. Major isolates (n = 38) were XDR and MDR. Beta-lactamase genes were identified: blaSHV (n = 41), blaCTX-M (n = 28), blaTEM (n = 21), blaOXA-48 (n = 21), blaNDM (n = 1), and blaKPC (n = 1). The prevalent virulence genes were wabG (n = 41), fimH (n = 41), allS (n = 41), and uge (n = 34), and rarer, detected only in the genomes of the isolates causing severe systemic infections-rmpA (n = 8), kfu (n = 6), iroN (n = 5), and iroD (n = 5) indicating high potential of the isolates for hypervirulence.

Subchronic effect of a weak combined magnetic field (MF), produced by superimposing a constant component, 42 µT and an alternating MF of 0.08 µT, which was the sum of two frequencies of 4.38 and 4.88 Hz, was studied in olfactory bulbectomized (OBE) and transgenic Tg (APPswe, PSEN1) mice, which were used as animal models of sporadic and heritable Alzheimer's disease (AD) accordingly. Spatial memory was tested in a Morris water maze on the following day after completion of training trials with the hidden platform removed. The amyloid-ß (Aß) level was determined in extracts of the cortex and hippocampus of mice using a specific DOT analysis while the number and dimensions of amyloid plaques were detected after their staining with thioflavin S in transgenic animals. Exposure to the MFs (4 h/day for 10 days) induced the decrease of Aß level in brain of OBE mice and reduced the number of Aß plaques in the cortex and hippocampus of Tg animals. However, memory improvement was revealed in Tg mice only, but not in the OBE animals. Here, we suggest that in order to prevent the Aß accumulation, MFs could be used at early stage of neuronal degeneration in case of AD and other diseases with amyloid protein deposition in other tissues.

Cyclometalation of dibenzothienyl-pyridine (HPyDBT) afforded a series of platinum(ii) complexes Pt(PyDBT)(L)Cl (L = DMSO, 1; P(p-C6H4-X)3 (X = H, 2; CF3, 3; OMe, 4; NPh2, 5); 1,3,5-triaza-7-phosphaadamantane, 6; 2,6-dimethylphenyl isocyanide, 7). Chelating bidentate LL ligands formed cationic compounds [Pt(PyDBT)(LL)]+ (LL = 1,2-bis(diphenylphosphino)benzene, 8; 2,2'-bipyridine, 9; 1,10-phenanthroline, 10). Oxidation of a thienyl sulfur atom allowed for the isolation of the sulfone derivative Pt(PyDBT)(PPh3)Cl (11). The title complexes were characterized crystallographically (except 7). Investigation of their photophysical behavior revealed solid state phosphorescence with quantum yields up to 0.45 for neat powders. The ancillary ligands L show a minor influence on the emission energies of the neutral compounds, but affect dramatically the intensity of luminescence. In contrast, the cationic species with diimine ligands demonstrate a significant contribution of the LL fragments into the emissive T1 states that leads to a certain mixing of 3IL and 3LL'CT transitions and causes a substantial bathochromic shift of emission.

We studied the ability of four non-conjugated alpha7-subunit fragments of the nicotinic acetylcholine receptor to induce an immune response and to protect memory in olfactory bulbectomized mice which demonstrate abnormalities similar to Alzheimer's disease (AD). Vaccination only with the alpha7-subunit fragment 173-193 was shown to rescue spatial memory, to restore the level of alpha7 acetylcholine receptors in the cortex, and to prevent an increase in the amyloid-beta (Abeta) level in brain tissue in these animals. Antibodies against the peptide 173-193 were revealed in blood serum and cerebrospinal liquid in the bulbectomized mice. Passive immunization with mouse blood sera containing antibodies to the peptide 173-193 also restored memory in bulbectomized animals. The observed positive effect of both active and passive immunization with the fragment of alpha7-subunit on memory of bulbectomized mice provides a new insight into an anti-AD drug design.

Alterations in electroencephalogram (EEG) asymmetry and deficits in interhemispheric integration of information have been shown in patients with Alzheimer's disease (AD). However, no direct evidence of an association between EEG asymmetry, morphological markers in the brain, and cognition was found either in AD patients or in AD models. In this study we used rats with bilateral olfactory bulbectomy (OBX) as one of the AD models and measured their learning/memory abilities, brain beta-amyloid levels and EEG spectra in symmetrical frontal and occipital cortices. One year after OBX or sham-surgery, the rats were tested with the Morris water paradigm and assigned to three groups: sham-operated rats, SO, and OBX rats with virtually normal, OBX(+), or abnormal, OBX(-), learning (memory) abilities. In OBX vs. SO, the theta EEG activity was enhanced to a higher extent in the right frontal cortex and in the left occipital cortex. This produced significant interhemispheric differences in the frontal cortex of the OBX(-) rats and in the occipital cortex of both OBX groups. The beta1 EEG asymmetry in SO was attenuated in OBX(+) and completely eliminated in OBX(-). OBX produced highly significant beta2 EEG decline in the right frontal cortex, with OBX(-)>OBX(+) rank order of strength. The beta-amyloid level, examined by post-mortem immunological DOT-analysis in the cortex-hippocampus samples, was about six-fold higher in OBX(-) than in SO, but significantly less (enhanced by 82% vs. SO) in OBX(+) than in OBX(-). The involvement of the brain mediatory systems in the observed EEG asymmetry differences is discussed.
