RESUMEN

Current research endeavours are progressively focussing towards discovering sustainable methods for synthesising eco-friendly materials. In this environment, nanotechnology has emerged as a key frontier, especially in bioremediation and biotechnology. A few areas of nanotechnology including membrane technology, sophisticated oxidation processes, and biosensors. It is possible to create nanoparticles (NPs) via physical, chemical, or biological pathways in a variety of sizes and forms. These days, the investigation of plants as substitutes for NP synthesis methods has drawn a lot of interest. Toxic water contaminants such as methyl blue have been shown to be removed upto 70% by nanoparticles. In our article, we aimed at focussing the environmental sustainability and cost-effectiveness towards the green synthesis of nanoparticles. Furthermore it offers a comprehensive thorough summary of green NP synthesis methods which can be distinguished by their ease of use, financial sustainability, and environmentally favourable utilization of plant extracts. This study highlights how green synthesis methods have the potential to transform manufacturing of NPs while adhering to environmental stewardship principles and resource efficiency.

RESUMEN

Lignin is an important commercially produced polymeric material. It is used extensively in both industrial and agricultural activities. Recently, it has drawn much attention from the scientific community. It is abundantly present in nature and has significant application in the production of biodegradable materials. Its wide usage includes drug delivery, polymers and several forms of emerging lignin nanoparticles. The synthesis of lignin nanoparticles is carried out in a controlled manner. The traditional manufacturing techniques are costly and often toxic and hazardous to the environment. This review article highlights simple, safe, climate-friendly and ecological approaches to the synthesis of lignin nanoparticles. The changeable, complex structure and recalcitrant nature of lignin makes it challenging to degrade. Researchers have discovered a small number of microorganisms that have developed enzymatic and non-enzymatic metabolic pathways to use lignin as a carbon source. These microbes show promising potential for the biodegradation of lignin. The degradation pathways of these microbes are also described, which makes the study of biological synthesis much easier. However, surface modification of lignin nanoparticles is something that is yet to be explored. This review elucidates the recent advances in the biodegradation of lignin in the ecological system. It includes the current approaches, methods for modification, new applications and research for the synthesis of lignin and lignin nanoparticles. Additionally, the intricacy of lignin's structure, along with its chemical nature, is well-described. This article will help increase the understanding of the utilization of lignin as an economical and alternative-resource material. It will also aid in the minimization of solid waste arising from lignin.

RESUMEN

Over the years, conventional wastewater treatment processes have achieved to some extent in treating effluents for discharge pints. Development in wastewater treatment processes is essential to make treated wastewater reusable for industrial, agricultural, and domestic purposes. Membrane technology has emerged as an ideal technology for treating wastewater from different wastewater streams. Membrane technology is one of the most up-to-date advancements discovered to be successful in fundamentally lessening impurities to desired levels. In spite of having certain impediments, membrane bioreactors (MBRs) for biological wastewater treatment provide many advantages over conventional treatment. This review article covers all the aspects of membrane technology that are widely used in wastewater treatment process such as the principle of membrane technology, the classification of membrane technology processes in accordance to pressure, concentration, electrical and thermal-driven processes, its application in different industries, advantages, disadvantages and the future prospective.

RESUMEN

The optimization of the bacterium Pseudomonas stutzeri SPM-1, obtained from textile wastewater dumping sites of Surat, Gujarat was studied for the degradation of the textile azo dye Procion Red-H3B. The strain showed significant activities of azoreductase (95%), laccase (76%) and NADH-DCIP reductase (88%) at 12, 10 and 8 h of growth, respectively, indicating the evidence for reductive cleavage of the dye. The optimization was carried on phenanthrene enrichment medium followed by exposing it to variable environmental factors and nutritional sources. The complete decolourization of dye (50 mg/L) happened within 20 h of incubation at pH 8 and temperature 32 ± 0.2 °C under microaerophilic condition. Decolourization was monitored with the shifting of absorbance peak in UV-Vis spectrophotometry and HPLC analysis. The changes in the functional groups were confirmed by the presence of new peaks in FT-IR data. GC-MS analysis helped in recognizing the degraded dye compounds thus elucidating the proposed pathway for Procion Red-H3B. The potential of bioremediation process was completed by phytotoxicity test using two plants Vigna radiata and Cicer arietinum. Our study concludes that the strain Pseudomonas stutzeri SPM-1, with its rapid decolourization efficiency holds noteworthy prospective in industrial application for textile wastewater treatment.

The complete decolorization of dye (50 mg/L) happened within 20 h of incubation at pH 8 and temperature 32 ± 0.2 °C under microaerophilic conditions. Decolourization was monitored with the shifting of absorbance peak in UV-Vis spectrophotometry and HPLC analysis. The physicochemical studies of effluent before and after the treatment revealed 85%, 90%, and 65% decline in BOD, COD, and TOC levels. The strain showed significant activities of azoreductase (95%), laccase (76%), and NADH-DCIP reductase (88%) at 12 h, 10 h, and 8 h of growth respectively indicating evidence for reductive cleavage of the dye.
