Objective@#To investigate the prevalence of overweight/obesity and its associations with sleep duration among children and adolescents aged 6-17 in Gansu Province, so as to formulate tailored prevention and control strategies and intervention measures.@*Methods@#Using a multi stage stratified cluster random sampling method, a questionnaire survey and physical examination were conducted among 2 172 students aged 6-17 from 2 monitoring points in Gansu Province from May to July 2022. Using Chi square test to analyze the inter group differences in the detection rates of overweight and obesity and the composition of sleep duration, and using Logistic regression model to analyze the correlation between overweight and obesity and sleep duration.@*Results@#The prevalence of overweight and obesity were 10.45% and 6.86%, respectively. The average sleep duration was ( 8.28 ±1.66)h/d. The detection rate of overweight was high among high school students aged 16-17 and those with sleep duration<8 h/d ( χ 2=12.51, 19.32, 14.96), while the detection rate of obesity was high among male and non residential students ( χ 2= 5.89 , 9.59)( P <0.05). For both boys and girls, the rates of overweight and obesity among primary school students increased with the decrease in sleep duration ( χ 2=38.84, 9.80, 19.61, 41.60, P <0.05). The rates of obesity in boys were higher than girls across varying sleep durations among the general population (sleep duration <8 h/d: 6.07%, 11.11%, 8~<9 h/d: 5.76%, 6.09 %, 9~<10 h/d: 6.02%, 8.19 %, ≥10 h/d: 4.04%, 6.90%). Multivariate Logistic regression analysis showed that insufficient sleep duration among primary school students was positively associated with the risk of overweight and obesity, and adequate sleep duration among high school students was negatively associated with the risk of overweight and obesity (sleep duration 8~<9 h/d: OR primary school students = 1.89 , 9~< 10 h/d: OR primary school students =1.54, 8~<9 h/d: OR high school students =0.30, P <0.05).@*Conclusions@#Insufficient sleep is a risk factor for overweight and obesity among primary and secondary school students at monitoring sites in Gansu Province. Prevention strategies and interventions should be developed for different populations to ensure adequate sleep duration and reduce the risk of overweight and obesity among primary and secondary school students.

OBJECTIVES: The aim of this study is to evaluate the expression of syntaxin 6 (STX6) in epithelial ovarian cancer (EOC) and assess the effects of STX6 on the prognosis of patient. METHODS: Using information from the Kaplan-Meier Plotter database, the effects of STX6 expression on overall survival (OS) and progression-free survival (PFS) in ovarian cancer patients were examined. The clinical information of 147 patients with epithelial ovarian cancer was evaluated, and immunohistochemical staining was used to identify STX6 expression in postoperative tumor specimens, and the affection of STX6 expression on patient prognosis was assessed. In addition, the expression of STX6 in tumor tissue, peritoneal metastases (PM) derived from 13 patients with epithelial ovarian cancer and 6 normal ovarian specimens was detected by PCR and Western blot. In order to investigate how STX6 affects the proliferation of tumor cells, STX6 was also over expressed and knock down in ovarian cancer cell lines. Then colony formation assay was used to explore the effect of STX6 regulating on cell proliferation. RESULTS: Kaplan-Meier Plotter enrollment data analysis revealed that patients with overexpressed STX6 had substantially worse OS and PFS than individuals with low STX6 expression. Retrospective study revealed a significant (P<0.05) correlation between the STX6 expression and tumor classifications, tumor stage, peritoneal carcinomatosis index (PCI), and PFS survival of patients. Western blot and PCR findings for fresh samples showed that STX6 was overexpressed in both primary lesions and PM nodules of OC. SKOV3 cell proliferation was shown to be dramatically reduced by STX6 knockdown and promoted by STX6 overexpression, according to the in vitro experiments. CONCLUSION: STX6 may increase the progression of epithelial OC by encouraging the proliferation of cancer cells, indicating that STX6 was a viable therapeutic target of epithelial OC.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: This study was undertaken to evaluate the status of iodine nutrition and thyroid function of women at different phases of gestation in an iodine sufficient rural area. METHODS AND STUDY DESIGN: 215 pregnant women in different trimesters were consecutively enrolled in iodine sufficient rural areas of Yongjing county of Gansu province, China. The blood samples and random urine samples were collected from them, and serum thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH), free triiodothyronine (FT3), free thyroxin (FT4), thyroid peroxidase antibody (TPOAb), thyroglobulin antibody (TgAb) and urinary iodine were measured. RESULTS: Median Urinary Iodine (MUI) of three groups of pregnant women (first, second and third trimester) were 190 µg/L, 153 µg/L and 145 µg/L respectively. With the increase of gestational age, the level of FT3 decreased. And the FT3 level in the first trimester was higher than those in the second and third trimester. There was a U-shaped curve seen between the TSH levels and the gestational age. The medians of TgAb and TPOAb appeared the lowest in the first trimester.Significant difference was seen in TgAb and TPOAb levels of the three groups of pregnant women. The incidence of thyroid function disorder was 1.86%, including subclinical hypothyroidism accounted for 1.40% and hypothyroidism accounted for 0.47%. The incidence of thyroid function disorder mainly appeared in the early pregnancy. Abnormal FT3, TSH, positive TgAb and TPOAb were mainly seen during early pregnancy. CONCLUSIONS: The levels of serum TSH and thyroid hormones fluctuate at the different phases of pregnancy. With the increase of gestational age, the incidence of iodine deficiency also increased. Abnormal thyroid hormones, TSH, positive TgAb and TPOAb were mainly existed in the early pregnancy.
