All cases personally observed over a period of 18 months have been considered as possible cases A.A.R., beginning from january 1980. The results show that diseases simulating A.A.R. do exist, but they are probably of viral origin and have different clinical and laboratory characteristics.

A case of Schönlein-Henoch syndrome with neurological complications in a child is reported. Stress is laid on the fact that these symptoms were predominant throughout the course of the disease. Treatment, primarily based on cortisone, led to complete resolution of the neurological picture.

A study was made of changes in body fluid parameters of rheumatism following treatment with sulphoadenosine-methionine and classic forms of management. Particular attention is drawn to improvement of the serum electrophoretic picture (especially in the case of alpha 2 and gamma-globulins) with respect to untreated control group. Note is also taken of the drug's positive influence on liver function, particularly with regard to lactate hydrogenase, compared with the variations in such parameters in the control group.

Changes in serum LDH in AAR, Sydenham's chorea and purpura rheumatica and their significance were investigated in 103 cases observed at the 1st Paediatrics Clinic, University of Turin. A search was made for relation between such changes and the laboratory parameters in rheumatism. The data showed that blood LDH can be profitably determined in the diseases considered.
