This study systematically explores the influence of charged impurities on static screening in monolayer graphene and extends the investigation to AA-stacked and AB-stacked bilayer graphene (BLG). Applying the random phase approximation (RPA), monolayer graphene displays unique beating Friedel oscillations (FOs) in inter-valley and intra-valley channels. Shifting to BLG, the study emphasizes layer-specific responses on each layer by considering self-consistent field interactions between layers. It also explores the derived multimode FOs, elucidating distinctions from monolayer behavior. In AA-stacked BLG, distinct metallic screening behaviors are revealed, uncovering unique oscillatory patterns in induced charge density, providing insights into static Coulomb scattering effects between two Dirac cones. The exploration extends to AB-stacked BLG, unveiling layer-specific responses of parabolic bands in multimode FOs with increasing Fermi energy. This comprehensive investigation, integrating RPA considerations, significantly advances our understanding of layer-dependent static screening in the broader context of FOs in graphene, providing valuable contributions to the field of condensed matter physics.

In this study, gold nanocubes (AuNCs) were quickly synthesized using the seed-mediated growth method and reduced onto the surface of two-dimensional (2D) delaminated nano mica platelets (NMPs), enabling the development of AuNCs/NMPs nanohybrids with a 3D lightning-rod effect. First, the growth-solution amount can be changed to easily adjust the AuNCs average-particle size within a range of 30-70 nm. The use of the cationic surfactant cetyltrimethylammonium chloride as a protective agent allowed the surface of AuNCs and nanohybrids to be positively charged. Positively charged nanohybrid surfaces presented a good adsorption effect for detecting molecules with negative charges on the surface. Additionally, the NMP surfaces were rich in ionic charges and provided a large specific surface area for stabilizing the growth of AuNCs. Delaminated AuNCs/NMPs nanohybrids can generate a 3D hotspot effect through self-assembly to enhance the Raman signal. Surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) is highly sensitive in detecting adenine biomolecules. Its limit of detection (LOD) and Raman enhancement factor reached 10-9 M and 3.6 × 108, respectively. Excellent reproducibility was obtained owing to the relatively regular arrangement of AuNC particles, and the relative standard deviation (RSD) was 10.7%. Finally, the surface of NMPs was modified by adding the hydrophilic poly(oxyethylene)-diamine (POE2000) and amphiphilic PIB-POE-PIB copolymer at different weight ratios. The adjustment of the surface hydrophilicity and hydrophobicity of AuNCs/NMPs nanohybrids led to better adsorption and selectivity for bacteria. AuNCs/POE/NMPs and AuNCs/PIB-POE-PIB/NMPs were further applied to the SERS detection of hydrophilic Staphylococcus aureus and hydrophobic Escherichia coli, respectively. The SERS-detection results suggest that the LOD of hydrophilic Staphylococcus aureus and hydrophobic Escherichia coli reached 92 CFU mL-1 and 1.6 × 102 CFU mL-1, respectively. The AuNCs/POE/NMPs and AuNCs/PIB-POE-PIB/NMPs nanohybrids had different hydrophilic-hydrophobic affinities, which greatly improved the selectivity and sensitivity for detecting bacteria with different hydrophilicity and hydrophobicity. Therefore, fast, highly selective, and highly sensitive SERS biological-detection results were obtained.

The present study was conducted to prepare and investigate large-area, high-sensitivity surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) substrates. Organic/inorganic nanohybrid dispersants consisting of an amphiphilic triblock copolymer (hereafter referred to simply as "copolymer") and graphene oxide (GO) were used to stabilize the growth and size of gold nanoparticles (AuNPs). Ion-dipole forces were present between the AuNPs and copolymer dispersants, while the hydrogen bonds between GO and the copolymer prevented the aggregation of GO, thereby stabilizing the AuNP/GO nanohybrids. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) revealed that the AuNPs had particle sizes of 25-35 nm and a relatively uniform size distribution. The AuNP/GO nanohybrids were deposited onto the glass substrate by using the solution drop-casting method and employed for SERS detection. The self-assembling properties of two-dimensional sheet-like GO led to a regular lamellar arrangement of AuNP/GO nanohybrids, which could be used for the preparation of large-area SERS substrates. Following removal of the copolymer by annealing at 300 °C for 2 h, measurements were obtained under scanning electron microscopy. The results confirmed that 2D GO nanosheets were capable of stabilizing AuNPs, with the final size reaching approximately 40 nm. These AuNPs were adsorbed on both sides of the GO nanosheets. Because the GO nanosheets were merely 5 nm-thick, a good three-dimensional hot-junction effect was generated along the z-axis of the AuNPs. Lastly, the prepared material was used for the SERS detection of rhodamine 6G (R6G), a commonly used highly fluorescent dye. An enhancement factor (EF) of up to 3.5 × 106 was achieved, and the limit of detection was approximately 10-10 M. Detection limits of 10-10 M and < 10-10 M were also observed with the detection of Direct Blue 200 and the biological molecule adenine. It is therefore evident that AuNP/copolymer/GO nanohybrids are large-area flexible SERS substrates that hold great potential in environmental monitoring and biological system detection applications.

Diabetic retinopathy (DR) accounts for 80% of cases of vision loss in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Interventional treatments are only indicated in advanced DR and are ineffective in some patients. Sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 inhibitors (SGLT2is) are used to attenuate T2DM-associated cardiovascular complications. We conducted the cohort study to investigate the effect of SGLT2is on DR development. Data (May 2016-December 2018) obtained from the Taiwan National Health Insurance Research Database were analyzed in this nationwide retrospective cohort study. After propensity score matching, a total of 31,764 patients receiving SGLT2is and another 31,764 patients receiving dipeptidyl peptidase 4 inhibitors (DPP4is) were included in this study. Multiple Cox proportional-hazards regression models were used to evaluate DR risk. Overall DR incidence among SGLT2i or DPP4i users was 10.9 or 15.6 per 10,000 patient-years, respectively. After covariate adjustment, DR (both early and late stage) risk was substantially lower in SGLT2i users (adjusted hazard ratio: 0.68, 95% confidence interval: 0.6-0.78) than in DPP4i users. DR risk appears to be considerably lower in SGLT2i users than in DPP4i users. Glycemic control measurement with HbA1C level was unavailable in this claim database.

A photocurable resin/carbon nanotube (CNT) nanocomposite was fabricated from aligned CNTs in an acrylic matrix. The conductivity of the nanocomposite increased rapidly and then stabilized when the CNT content was increased up to and beyond the percolation threshold. Various structures were created using a digital light processing (DLP) 3D printer. Various polymeric dispersants (SMA-amide) were designed and synthesized to improve the CNT dispersion and prevent aggregation. The benzene rings and lone electron pairs on the dispersant interacted with aromatic groups on the CNTs, causing the former to wrap around the latter. This created steric hindrance, thereby stabilizing and dispersing the CNTs in the solvent. CNT/polymer nanocomposites were created by combining the dispersant, CNTs, and a photocurable resin. The CNT content of the nanocomposite and the 3D printing parameters were tuned to optimize the conductivity and printing quality. A touch-based human interface device (HID) that utilizes the intrinsic conductivity of the nanocomposite and reliably detects touch signals was fabricated, enabling the free design of sensors of various styles and shapes using a low-cost 3D printer. The production of sensors without complex circuitry was achieved, enabling novel innovations.

Introduction: Denosumab demonstrates efficacy in reducing the incidence of hip, vertebral, and nonvertebral fractures in postmenopausal women with osteoporosis. We present a population-based national cohort study to evaluate the infection risks in patients with osteoporosis after long-term denosumab therapy. Methods: We used the Taiwan National Health Insurance Research Database (NHIRD) to identify patients with osteoporosis. The case cohort comprised patients treated with denosumab. Propensity score (PS) matching was used to select denosumab nonusers for the control cohort. The study period was between August 2011 and December 2017. Our study comprised 30,106 pairs of case and control patients. Results: Patients receiving denosumab therapy had high risks of the following infections: pneumonia and influenza (adjusted hazard ratio [aHR]: 1.33; 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.27 -1.39), urinary tract infection (aHR: 1.36; 95% CI:1.32 -1.40), tuberculosis (aHR: 1.60; 95% CI: 1.36 -1.87), fungal infection (aHR: 1.67; 95% CI:1.46 -1.90), candidiasis (aHR: 1.68; 95% CI: 1.47 -1.93), herpes zoster infection (aHR: 1.27; 95% CI: 1.19 -1.35), sepsis (aHR: 1.54; 95% CI:1.43 -1.66), and death (aHR: 1.26; 95% CI: 1.20 -1.32). However, the longer the duration of denosumab treatment, the lower the risk patients had of developing infections. Discussion: Denosumab therapy is associated with a higher infection risk at the early periods of treatment. Nevertheless, the risk attenuates significantly after the 2nd year of therapy. Clinicians should closely monitor infection status in patients with osteoporosis during the initial stages of denosumab therapy.

Heterojunction engineering in catalyst structures is a promising approach for solving the main restriction of the narrow photoabsorption range and quick recombination of photogenerated charge carriers in the photocatalysts. Herein, a simple, eco-friendly, non-toxic, and novel Z-scheme heterojunction of nanoflower-like NiS/BiOI was systematically designed using the low-temperature solvothermal and precipitation methods. The physicochemical and photo-electrochemical properties of the as-synthesized nanomaterials were characterized using XRD, FESEM, FT-IR, XPS, BET, UV-vis, PL, and EIS. NiS/BiOI nanomaterials exhibited a wide photoabsorption range (200-1000 nm), a narrow bandgap energy (1.76 eV), a large surface area (35.82 m2 g-1), and a low charge carrier recombination rate because of the synergistic effects of the NiS and BiOI photocatalysts, which could be the basis for superior photocatalytic efficiency. Particularly, the optimal 40% NiS/BiOI nanocomposite exhibited better stability and efficiency than the pure NiS and BiOI. The maximum degradation efficiency of rhodamine B (RhB) was 99.8% after 200 min, tetracycline (TC) was 96.3% after 140 min, and the photoreduction of Cr(VI) was 92.8% after 180 min rather than the pure NiS and BiOI under visible light irradiation. The constant rate (k) of RhB was approximately 10 and 4, TC was 12 and 4, and Cr(VI) was 10 and 8 times that of pristine NiS and BiOI, respectively. Radical trapping experiments and Tauc plot analysis proposed the design of the plausible Z-scheme reaction mechanism between NiS and BiOI, which has a crucial role in the rate of transportation and separation of electron/hole pairs. This investigation provides a venue for the design of a photoactive NiS-based nanocomposite for environmental remediation.

A new potential route to enhance the efficiency of supramolecular polymers for cancer chemotherapy was successfully demonstrated by employing a photosensitive metallosupramolecular polymer (Hg-BU-PPG) containing an oligomeric poly(propylene glycol) backbone and highly sensitive pH-responsive uracil-mercury-uracil (U-Hg-U) bridges. This route holds great promise as a multifunctional bioactive nano-object for development of more efficient and safer cancer chemotherapy. Owing to the formation of uracil photodimers induced by ultraviolet irradiation, Hg-BU-PPG can form a photo-cross-linked structure and spontaneously forms spherical nanoparticles in aqueous solution. The irradiated nanoparticles possess many unique characteristics, such as unique fluorescence behavior, highly sensitive pH-responsiveness, and intriguing phase transition behavior in aqueous solution as well as high structural stability and antihemolytic activity in biological media. More importantly, a series of cellular studies clearly confirmed that the U-Hg-U photo-cross-links in the irradiated nanoparticles substantially enhance their selective cellular uptake by cancer cells via macropinocytosis and the mercury-loaded nanoparticles subsequently induce higher levels of cytotoxicity in cancer cells (compared to non-irradiated nanoparticles), without harming normal cells. These results are mainly attributed to cancer cell microenvironment-triggered release of mercury ions from disassembled nanoparticles, which rapidly induce massive levels of apoptosis in cancer cells. Overall, the pH-sensitive U-Hg-U photo-cross-links within this newly discovered supramolecular system are an indispensable factor that offers a potential path to remarkably enhance the selective therapeutic effects of functional nanoparticles toward cancer cells.

This work reports the preparation of graphene nanoplatelet (GNP)/multiwalled carbon nanotube (MWCNT)/polypyrrole (PPy) hybrid fillers via in situ chemical oxidative polymerization with the addition of a cationic surfactant, hexadecyltrimethylammonium bromide. These hybrid fillers were incorporated into polyurethane (PU) to prepare GNP/MWCNT/PPy/PU nanohybrids. The electrical conductivity of the nanohybrids was synergistically enhanced by the high conductivity of the hybrid fillers. Furthermore, the electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding effectiveness (SE) was greatly increased by interfacial polarization between the GNPs, MWCNTs, PPy, and PU. The optimal formulation for the preparation of GNP/MWCNT/PPy three-dimensional (3D) nanostructures was determined by optimization experiments. Using this formulation, we successfully prepared GNP/PPy nanolayers (two-dimensional) that are extensively covered by MWCNT/PPy nanowires (one-dimensional), which interconnect to form GNP/MWCNT/PPy 3D nanostructures. When incorporated into a PU matrix to form a nanohybrid, these 3D nanostructures form a continuous network of conductive GNP-PPy-CNT-PPy-GNP paths. The EMI SE of the nanohybrid is 35-40 dB at 30-1800 MHz, which is sufficient to shield over 99.9% of electromagnetic waves. Therefore, this EMI shielding material has excellent prospects for commercial use. In summary, a nanohybrid with excellent EMI SE performance was prepared using a facile and scalable method and was shown to have great commercial potential.

Triangular gold nanoplates (TAuNPs) were prepared by a one-step rapid growth method and then reduced and stabilized on two-dimensional nano mica nanoplatelets (NMPs). We also prepared TAuNP/NMP nanohybrids with a three-dimensional lightning-rod effect by oxidative etching. The surface of the delaminated NMPs (only 1 nm thick) is highly charged and can provide a large specific surface area; thus, it can be used as a substrate for the stable growth of gold nanoplates. In addition, by controlling relevant synthesis parameters, the edge length of the TAuNPs can be easily adjusted in the range of 30-90 nm. During reduction of the TAuNPs, the cationic surfactant cetyltrimethylammonium chloride was added as a protective agent to surround the TAuNPs; consequently, the surface was positively charged, which facilitates adsorption for detecting molecules with negative charges. When nanohybrids were used in surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) to detect adenine molecules, the limit of detection concentration was 10-9 M. The Raman enhancement factor was 5.7 × 107, and the relative standard deviation (RSD) was 9.8%. Finally, this method was applied to the biological detection of Staphylococcus aureus, and the surface charge and hydrophilic properties of the material significantly improved the SERS signal of S. aureus. The limit of detection concentration was 102 CFU mL-1, and the RSD was 11.2%. The TAuNP/NMP nanohybrids can provide very rapid and sensitive SERS detection of biomolecules.

Gold nanorods (AuNRs) with different aspect ratios were prepared by the seed-mediated growth method and combined with three carbon-based nanomaterials of multiple dimensions (i.e., zero-dimensional (0D) carbon black (CB), one-dimensional (1D) carbon nanotubes (CNTs), and two-dimensional (2D) graphene oxide (GO)). The AuNR/carbon-based nanomaterial hybrids were utilized in dynamic surface-enhanced Raman scattering (D-SERS). First, cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) was used to stabilize and coat the AuNRs, enabling them to be dispersed in water and conferring a positive charge to the surface. AuNR/carbon-based nanomaterial hybrids were then formed via electrostatic attraction with the negatively charged carbon-based nanomaterials. Subsequently, the AuNR/carbon-based nanomaterial hybrids were utilized as large-area and highly sensitive Raman spectroscopy substrates. The AuNR/GO hybrids afforded the best signal enhancement because the thickness of GO was less than 5 nm, which enabled the AuNRs adsorbed on GO to produce a good three-dimensional hotspot effect. The enhancement factor (EF) of the AuNR/GO hybrids for the dye molecule Rhodamine 6G (R6G) reached 1 × 107, where the limit of detection (LOD) was 10-8 M. The hybrids were further applied in D-SERS (detecting samples transitioning from the wet state to the dry state). During solvent evaporation, the system spontaneously formed many hotspots, which greatly enhanced the SERS signal. The final experimental results demonstrated that the AuNR/GO hybrids afforded the best D-SERS signal enhancement. The EF value for R6G reached 1.1 × 108 after 27 min, with a limit of detection of 10-9 M at 27 min. Therefore, the AuNR/GO nanohybrids have extremely high sensitivity as molecular sensing elements for SERS and are also very suitable for the rapid detection of single molecules in water quality and environmental management.

In this paper, a side-by-side, dual-nozzle electrospinning process was used to prepare a flexible hybrid electronics (FHE) material with excellent stretchable properties. A highly stable electrical conductivity was also imparted to the resulting membrane electrodes using silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) and carbon-based nanomaterials of different structures. The AgNP/carbon-based nanomaterials were coated onto bicomponent polymer nanofibers (composed of polyurethane (PU) and polyvinylidene difluoride (PVDF)) on the nanofiber membrane. The FHE nanofiber electrodes were finally integrated into clothing designed to accurately measure human body sensing signals (e.g., electrocardiography (ECG) and electromyography (EMG) signals). To effectively increase the high electrical conductivity, a polymer-type dispersant (polyisobutylene-b-poly(oxyethylene)-b-polyisobutylene, a triblock copolymer) was used to effectively and stably disperse AgNPs with different particle sizes and carbon-based nanomaterials with different geometric dimensions (e.g., zero-dimensional carbon black, one-dimensional carbon nanotubes, and two-dimensional graphene) through non-covalent adsorption. Moreover, the bicomponent PVDF-PU nanofibers were immersed in a mixed dispersant of AgNPs and carbon-based nanomaterials at low concentrations, and thermal post-treatment was conducted to improve the electrical conductivity. The AgNP/graphene oxide (GO) nanofiber electrode exhibited a continuous phase with a stable material microstructure after 5000 repetitions of 50% tension-tension fatigue testing. The waveform pattern obtained from the proposed AgNP/GO nanofiber electrode was compared with those of traditional ECG and EMG electrodes. The nanofiber web electrode treated with organic/inorganic mixed dispersants and verified via tests of its electrical and fatigue properties was found to be suitable for long-term ECG and EMG monitoring, and it has excellent potential in wearable smart sensors.

Yohimbine (YOH) has antiproliferative effects against breast cancer and pancreatic cancer; however, its effects on vascular proliferative diseases such as atherosclerosis remain unknown. Accordingly, we investigated the inhibitory mechanisms of YOH in vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMCs) stimulated by platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF)-BB, a major mitogenic factor in vascular diseases. YOH (5-20 µM) suppressed PDGF-BB-stimulated a mouse VSMC line (MOVAS-1 cell) proliferation without inducing cytotoxicity. YOH also exhibited antimigratory effects and downregulated matrix metalloproteinase-2 and -9 expression in PDGF-BB-stimulated MOVAS-1 cells. It also promoted cell cycle arrest in the initial gap/first gap phase by upregulating p27Kip1 and p53 expression and reducing cyclin-dependent kinase 2 and proliferating cell nuclear antigen expression. We noted phospholipase C-γ1 (PLCγ1) but not ERK1/2, AKT, or p38 kinase phosphorylation attenuation in YOH-modulated PDGF-BB-propagated signaling pathways in the MOVAS-1 cells. Furthermore, YOH still inhibited PDGF-BB-induced cell proliferation and PLCγ1 phosphorylation in MOVAS-1 cells with α2B-adrenergic receptor knockdown. YOH (5 and 10 mg/kg) substantially suppressed neointimal hyperplasia in mice subjected to CCA ligation for 21 days. Overall, our results reveal that YOH attenuates PDGF-BB-stimulated VSMC proliferation and migration by downregulating a α2B-adrenergic receptor-independent PLCγ1 pathway and reduces neointimal formation in vivo. Therefore, YOH has potential for repurposing for treating atherosclerosis and other vascular proliferative diseases.

In this study, the effects of a hybrid filler composed of zero-dimensional spherical AlN particles and two-dimensional BN flakes on the thermal conductivity of epoxy resin were studied. The thermal conductivity (TC) of the pristine epoxy matrix (EP) was 0.22 W/(m K), while the composite showed the TC of 10.18 W/(m K) at the 75 wt% AlN-BN hybrid filler loading, which is approximately a 46-fold increase. Moreover, various essential application properties were examined, such as the viscosity, cooling rate, coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE), morphology, and electrical properties. In particular, the AlN-BN/EP composite showed higher thermal stability and lower CTE (22.56 ppm/°C) than pure epoxy. Overall, the demonstrated outstanding thermal performance is appropriate for the production of electronic packaging materials, including next-generation flip-chip underfills.

Synthetic bioactive nanocomposites show great promise in biomedicine for use in tissue growth, wound healing and the potential for bioengineered skin substitutes. Hydrogen-bonded supramolecular polymers (3A-PCL) can be combined with graphite crystals to form graphite/3A-PCL composites with tunable physical properties. When used as a bioactive substrate for cell culture, graphite/3A-PCL composites have an extremely low cytotoxic activity on normal cells and a high structural stability in a medium with red blood cells. A series of in vitro studies demonstrated that the resulting composite substrates can efficiently interact with cell surfaces to promote the adhesion, migration, and proliferation of adherent cells, as well as rapid wound healing ability at the damaged cellular surface. Importantly, placing these substrates under an indirect current electric field at only 0.1 V leads to a marked acceleration in cell growth, a significant increase in total cell numbers, and a remarkable alteration in cell morphology. These results reveal a newly created system with great potential to provide an efficient route for the development of multifunctional bioactive substrates with unique electro-responsiveness to manipulate cell growth and functions.

A flexible hybrid substrate was developed by affixing gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) onto the surface of two-dimensional nanomica platelets (NMPs). The substrate was successfully used in biosensors with high efficiency and high selectivity through surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS). By controlling the amphiphilicity of the hybrid substrate, the flexible substrate was made highly selective toward biomolecules. Four different SERS substrate systems were constructed, including intercalated mica, exfoliated NMPs, hydrophilic exfoliated NMPs, and hydrophobic exfoliated NMPs. NMPs were only 1 nm thick. AuNPs adsorbed on both sides of NMPs and thus created excellent three-dimensional hot junction effects in the z-axis direction. For the detection of adenine in DNA, a satisfactory Raman enhancement factor (EF) of up to 8.9 × 106 was achieved with the detection limit as low as 10-8 M. Subsequently, the AuNP/NMP hybrids were adopted to rapidly detect hydrophilic Staphylococcus hominis and hydrophobic Escherichia coli. The AuNP/PIB-POE-PIB/NMP nanohybrid was concurrently hydrophilic and hydrophobic. This amphiphilic property greatly enhanced the detection selectivity and signal intensity for hydrophilic or hydrophobic bacteria. Overall, AuNPs/PIB-POE-PIB/NMPs developed as SERS substrates enable rapid, sensitive biodetection.

Through the use of organic/inorganic hybrid dispersants-which are composed of polymeric dispersant and two-dimension nanomaterial graphene oxide (GO)-copper nanoparticles (CuNPs) were found to exhibit nano stability, air-stable characteristics, as well as long-term conductive stability. The polymeric dispersant consists of branched poly(oxyethylene)-segmented esters of trimellitic anhydride adduct (polyethylene glycol-trimethylolpropane-trimellitic anhydride, designated as PTT). PTT acts as a stabilizer for CuNPs, which are synthesized via in situ polymerization and redox reaction of the precursor Cu(CH3COO)2 within an aqueous system, and use graphene oxide to avoid the reduction reaction of CuNPs. The results show that after 30 days of storage the CuNPs/PTT/GO composite film maintains a highly conductive network (9.06 × 10-1 Ω/sq). These results indicate that organic/inorganic PTT/GO hybrid dispersants can effectively maintain the conductivity stability of CuNPs and address the problem of CuNP oxidation. Finally, the new CuNPs/PTT/GO composite film was applied to the electrocardiogram (ECG) smart clothes. This way, a stable and antioxidant-sensing electrode can be produced, which is expected to serve as a long-term ECG monitoring device.

In this study, lead zirconate titanate (PZT) ceramic particles were added for further improvement. PZT belongs to the perovskite family and exhibits good piezoelectricity. Thus, it was added in this experiment to enhance the piezoelectric response of the poly(vinylidenefluoride-co-trifluoroethylene) (PVDF-TrFE) copolymer, which produced a voltage output of 1.958 V under a cyclic pressure of 290 N. In addition, to further disperse the PZT particles in the PVDF-TrFE matrix, tetradecylphosphonic acid (TDPA) was synthesized and employed to modify the PZT surface, after which the surface-modified PZT (m-PZT) particles were added to the PVDF-TrFE matrix. The TDPA on the PZT surface made it difficult for the particles to aggregate, allowing them to disperse in the polymer solution more stably. In this way, the PZT particles with piezoelectric responses could be uniformly dispersed in the PVDF-TrFE film, thereby further enhancing its overall piezoelectric response. The test results showed that upon the addition of 10 wt % m-PZT, the piezoelectric coefficient of m-PZT/PVDF-TrFE 10 wt % was 27 pC/N; and under a cyclic pressure of 290 N, the output voltage reached 3.426 V, which demonstrated a better piezoelectric response than the polymer film with the original PZT particles. Furthermore, the piezoelectric coefficient of m-PZT/PVDF-TrFE 10 wt % was 27.1 pC/N. This was exhibited by maintaining a piezoelectric coefficient of 26.8 pC/N after 2000 cycles. The avoidance and mitigation of energy wastage have attracted increasing attention in the context of global warming and climate change. With advances in materials science, diverse multifunctional materials with high thermal conductivity have shown excellent energy-saving potential. In this study, a hybrid film exhibiting high thermal conductivity with excellent stretchability and washability was prepared. First, a simple surface modification of boron nitride (BN) was performed to realize a modified boron nitride (BNOH) filler. Next, an organic dispersant was synthesized to enhance the dispersion of BNOH and graphene nanoplatelets (GNPs) in the proposed composite. Subsequently, a simple procedure was used to combine the dispersed GNPs and BNOH fillers with thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) to fabricate a hybrid structure. The hybrid films composed of BNOH-GNP/TPU with a dispersant exhibited a high thermal conductivity of 12.62 W m-1 K-1 at a low filler loading of 20 wt.%. This hybrid film afforded excellent stretchability and washability, as indicated by the very small thermal-conductivity reduction to only 12.23 W m-1 K-1 after 100 cycles of fatigue testing and to 12.01 W m-1 K-1 after 10 washing cycles. Furthermore, the cooling and hydrophobicity properties of the hybrid film were enhanced when compared with neat TPU. Overall, our approach demonstrates a simple and novel strategy to break the passive effect of traditional commercial cooling clothing by combining a high-thermal-conductivity film with an active cooling source to amplify the cooling effect and develop wearable cooled smart clothes with great commercial potential.

In this study, polymer-assisted dispersants are used to stabilize the nanohybrids of platinum nanoparticles (PtNPs)/carbon nanotubes (CNTs) through non-covalent bond forces. These dispersants aim to replace the florine-doped tin oxide (FTO) glass in traditional dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) as counter electrodes. The large specific surface area, high conductivity, and redox potential of PtNPs/CNT nanohybrids are used as the basis to utilize them as the counter electrode material to fabricate a dye-sensitized solar cell. The conductivity results indicate that the resistance of the PtNP/CNT nanohybrid film can be reduced to 7.25 Ω/sq. When carbon nanotubes are mixed with platinum nanoparticles at a weight ratio of 5/1, the photoelectric conversion efficiency of DSSCs can reach 6.28%. When using the FTO-containing substrate as the counter electrode, its conversion efficiency indicates that the micro-/nano-hybrid material formed by PtNPs/CNTs also exhibits an excellent photoelectric conversion efficiency (8.45%) on the traditional FTO substrate. Further, a large-area dye-sensitive cell is fabricated, showing that an 8 cm × 8 cm cell has a conversion efficiency of 7.95%. Therefore, the traditional Pt counter electrode can be replaced with a PtNP/CNT nanohybrid film, which both provides dye-sensitive cells with a high photoelectric conversion efficiency and reduces costs.
