The aggregation of ß-amyloid (Aß) peptides to form amyloid plaques is one of the primary hallmarks for Alzheimer's disease (AD). Dietary flavonoid supplements containing hesperetin have an ability to decline the risk of developing AD, but the molecular mechanism is still unclear. In this work, hesperetin, a flavanone abundant in citrus fruits, has been proven to prevent the formation of Aß aggregates and depolymerized preformed fibrils in a concentration-dependent fashion. Hesperetin inhibited the conformational conversion from the natural structure to a ß-sheet-rich conformation. It was found that hesperetin significantly reduced the cytotoxicity and relieved oxidative stress eventuated by Aß aggregates in a concentration-dependent manner. Additionally, the beneficial effects of hesperetin were confirmed in Caenorhabditis elegans, including the inhibition of the formation and deposition of Aß aggregates and extension of their lifespan. Finally, the results of molecular dynamics simulations showed that hesperetin directly interacted with an Aß42 pentamer mainly through strong non-polar and electrostatic interactions, which destroyed the structural stability of the preformed pentamer. To summarize, hesperetin exhibits great potential as a prospective dietary supplement for preventing and improving AD.

The fibrillogenesis of amyloid ß-protein (Aß) gradually accumulates to form neurotoxic Aß aggregates in the human brain, which is the direct cause of Alzheimer's disease (AD) related symptoms. There are currently no effective therapies for AD. Brazilin, a natural polyphenol, inhibits Aß fibrillogenesis, disrupts the mature fibrils and alleviates the corresponding cytotoxicity, but it also has the high toxic. Therefore, brazilin-7-2-butenoate (B-7-2-B), a brazilin derivative, was designed and synthesized. B-7-2-B exhibited lower toxicity and stronger inhibitory effect on Aß aggregation than brazilin. B-7-2-B could prevent the formation of Aß fibrils and oligomers, and depolymerize pre-formed aggregates in a dose-dependent manner. Furthermore, B-7-2-B prominently alleviated the cytotoxicity and the oxidative stress induced by Aß aggregates in PC12 cells. The protective impacts of B-7-2-B were further demonstrated by using the Caenorhabditis elegans model, including decreasing the extent of Aß aggregation, improving the motility and sensation disorders. Eventually, B-7-2-B was proven to be no apparent damage to worms. In summarize, it can be concluded that B-7-2-B has the potential as a drug for treating AD.

Parkinson's disease (PD) is a prevalent neurodegenerative disorder characterized by the accumulation of α-synuclein (α-Syn) aggregates. However, there are currently no effective therapies for PD. Brazilin, an inhibitor of α-Syn aggregation, is unstable and toxic. Therefore, we have developed and synthesized derivatives of brazilin. One of these derivatives, called brazilin-7-acetate (B-7-A), has shown reduced toxicity and a stronger effect on inhibiting α-Syn aggregation. It showed that B-7-A prevented the formation of α-Syn fibers and disrupted existing fibers in a dosage-dependent manner. Additionally, B-7-A significantly reduced the cytotoxicity of α-Syn aggregates and alleviated oxidative stress in PC12 cells. The beneficial effects of B-7-A were also confirmed using the Caenorhabditis elegans model. These effects included preventing the accumulation of α-Syn clumps, improving behavior disorder, increasing lifespan, reducing oxidative stress, and protecting against lipid oxidation and loss. Finally, B-7-A showed good ADMET properties in silico. Based on these findings, B-7-A exhibits potential as a prospective treatment for PD.

OBJECTIVES: This study aims to determine the effects of low-level laser (LLL) on the expression of interleukin-6 (IL-6), tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α, osteoprotegerin (OPG), and receptor activator of nuclear factor-κB ligand (RANKL) in human periodontal ligament cells (HPDLCs) stimulated by high glucose; and identify the molecular mechanism of LLL therapy in the regulation of periodontal inflammation and bone remodeling during orthodontic treatment in diabetic patients. METHODS: HPDLCs were cultured in vitro to simulate orthodontic after loading and irradiated with LLL therapy. The cultured cells were randomly divided into four groups: low glucose Dulbecco's modification of Eagle's medium (DMEM)+stress stimulation (group A), high glucose DMEM+stress stimulation (group B), hypoglycemic DMEM+LLL therapy+stress stimulation (group C), and hyperglycemic DMEM+LLL therapy+stress stimulation (group D). Groups C and D were further divided into C1 and D1 (energy density: 3.75 J/cm2) and C2 and D2 (energy density: 5.625 J/cm2). Cells in groups A, B, C, and D were irradiated by LLL before irradiation. At 0, 12, 24, 48, and 72 h, the supernatants of the cell cultures were extracted at regular intervals, and the protein expression levels of IL-6, TNF-α, OPG, and RANKL were detected by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. RESULTS: 1) The levels of IL-6 and TNF-α secreted by HPDLCs increased gradually with time under static pressure stimulation. After 12 h, the levels of IL-6 and TNF-α secreted by HPDLCs in group A were significantly higher than those in groups B, C1, and C2 (P<0.05), which in group B were significantly higher than those in groups D1, and D2 (P<0.01). 2) The OPG protein concentration showed an upward trend before 24 h and a downward trend thereafter. The RANKL protein concentration increased, whereas the OPG/RANKL ratio decreased with time. Significant differen-ces in OPG, RANKL, and OPG/RANKL ratio were found among group A and groups B, C1, C2 as well as group B and groups D1, D2 (P<0.05). CONCLUSIONS: 1) In the high glucose+stress stimulation environment, the concentrations of IL-6 and TNF-α secreted by HPDLCs increased with time, the expression of OPG decreased, the expression of RANKL increased, and the ratio of OPG/RANKL decreased. As such, high glucose environment can promote bone resorption. After LLL therapy, the levels of IL-6 and TNF-α decreased, indicating that LLL therapy could antagonize the increase in the levels of inflammatory factors induced by high glucose environment and upregulate the expression of OPG in human HPDLCs, downregulation of RANKL expression in HPDLCs resulted in the upregulation of the ratio of OPG/RANKL and reversed the imbalance of bone metabolism induced by high glucose levels. 2) The decrease in inflammatory factors and the regulation of bone metabolism in HPDLCs were enhanced with increasing laser energy density within 3.75-5.625 J/cm2. Hence, the ability of LLL therapy to modulate bone remodeling increases with increasing dose.

Misfolding and subsequent fibrillogenesis of α-synuclein (αSN) significantly influence the development of Parkinson's disease (PD). This study reports the inhibitory effect of citrus flavonoid hesperetin (Hst) on αSN fibrillation. Based on thioflavin T fluorometry and atomic force microscopy studies, Hst inhibited αSN fibrillation by interfering with initial nucleation and slowing the elongation rate. Furthermore, the inhibitory effect was concentration-dependent with a half-maximal inhibitory concentration of 24.4 µM. Cytotoxicity experiments showed that 100 µM Hst significantly reduced the cytotoxicity of αSN aggregates and maintained 98.4% cell activity. In addition, Hst disassembled the preprepared αSN fibrils into smaller and less-toxic aggregates. Excitingly, supplementation with 100 µM Hst inhibited the accumulation of 36.3% αSN in NL5901 and restored the amyloid-induced reduction in NL5901 lipid abundance, extending the mean lifespan of NL5901 to 23 d. These findings could support the use of Hst as a dietary supplement to regulate αSN fibrillation and prevent the development of PD.

Hybrid teaching is a novel education mode that combines both online activities and offline activities. The main technical point is to facilitate the interaction between online and offline scenarios. The vision computing acts as the most intuitive way for this purpose. As a consequence, this paper designs a vision computing-based multimedia interaction system for hybrid teaching, and makes some empirical evaluation. It is composed of two parts: design and evaluation. For the former, macroscopic architecture of the interaction system is presented, and fundamental protocol for video transmission and analysis is defined. On this basis, an optimal scheduling algorithm that coordinates collaborative work of several modules is designed. For the latter, a prototype system is developed for experimental simulation to test abilities of both visual information processing and interactive scheduling. The results show that the designed multimedia interaction system can well implement hybrid teaching affairs under the guarantee of remote interaction performance.

The proliferation of the biomarker Ki67 has been extensively studied in colorectal cancer (CRC). Although numerous Ki67 cut-off values have previously been reported, the optimal cut-off value remains unclear with previous studies providing contrasting results. The present retrospective cohort study aimed to determine the optimal cut-off value for CRC. Ki67 levels and the prognosis of patients with non-metastatic CRC were obtained from the Electronic Health Information System of a tertiary hospital in Kunming City. The Restricted Cubic Spline (RCS) model was used to analyze the non-linear association between Ki67 levels and the risk of patient death and metastasis. Moreover, the RCS model was used to determine the optimal cut-off value of Ki67. Cox proportional hazards models were used to verify the effects of the cut-off value. In total, 210 patients with CRC and a median age of 62.5 years (age range, 23.0-88.0 years) were studied. Results of the present study demonstrated a non-linear association between Ki67 levels and the risk of patient death based on the RCS model, and at Ki67 levels ≥60%, the hazard ratio (HR) of patient death gradually increased. Using multivariate-adjusted Cox proportional hazards models, the results of the present study demonstrated that Ki67 ≥60% indicated a high-risk ratio for both distant metastasis and death [HR, 2.640; 95% confidence interval (CI), 1.066-6.539], compared with Ki67 <60% (HR, 2.558; 95% CI, 1.079-6.064). Therefore, Ki67 ≥60% may be the optimal cut-off value for the prediction of death and metastasis in patients with CRC. Thus, Ki67 may act as a biomarker for predicting the prognosis of patients with CRC, and the optimal cut-off value for the prediction of both death and metastasis of patients with CRC is 60%.

Misfolding and aggregation of α-synuclein (α-syn) play a key role in the pathogenesis of Parkinson's disease (PD). Herein, the inhibitory effect of ulvan on α-syn fibrillogenesis was studied using thioflavin T fluorescence and atomic force microscope assays. It is shown that ulvan could inhibit α-syn fibrillogenesis in a dose-dependent manner. Based on the circular dichroism results, it is found that ulvan delays greatly the conformational transition from its initial random coil to ß-sheet rich structure. The protective effect of ulvan against celllular death induced by α-syn aggregates was investigated by MTT colorimetric and cellular staining methods. It is found that ulvan protects greatly PC12 cells from α-syn fibril-induced cytotoxicity. In addition, ulvan disaggregates preformed α-syn fibrils and reduces cytotoxicity in a dose-dependent manner. Thereafter, the inhibitory effects of ulvan against α-syn fibrillogenesis were probed using Caenorhabditis elegans model NL5901 expressing human α-syn. It is found that ulvan extends the lifespan of NL5901 and recovers the lipid deposition by reducing the accumulation of α-syn. Finally, the molecular interactions between ulvan and α-syn pentamer was also explored using molecular docking. These findings suggest that ulvan can be pursued as a novel candidate drug for treatment of PD.

The role of psycho-emotional and social factors in determining teachers' pedagogical success has been largely endorsed in the literature. This highlights the necessity of improving EFL teachers' awareness and knowledge of various factors related to classroom interaction and interpersonal communication. Despite the existence of some L2 studies on interpersonal communication skills after the popularity of positive psychology, the interplay of variables that directly reflect classroom interactions and their linkage to one's intelligence(s) has been overlooked, to date. To fill this gap, the present mini review presented the theoretical and empirical foundations of three significant teacher-related variables, namely open-mindedness, immediacy, and social intelligence. In so doing, their relevant definitions, conceptualizations, models, and correlates were provided. Finally, the study offered some practical implications and suggestions for EFL stakeholders and researchers who can improve their knowledge and use of social-based variables in second/foreign language education.

AIM: To determine whether limb remote ischemic post-conditioning (LRIC) protects against high-intraocular-pressure (IOP)-induced retinal injury, and to identify underlying molecular mechanisms. METHODS: In mice, IOP was increased to 110 mm Hg for 50min and LRIC applied to the unilateral leg for three occlusion cycles (5min/release). Three animal groups (control, high IOP, and high IOP+LRIC) were arranged in this study. Plasma was collected from LRIC treated mice. Retinal histology, oxidative stress were determined by histological section staining and chemical kit. C/EBP homologous protein (CHOP), and Iba-1 parameters were evaluated by immunofluorescent staining and Western blot. RESULTS: The data showed that LRIC treatment alleviated the retinal histological disorganization and ganglion cell loss induced by high IOP. The CHOP, Iba-1 expression and oxidative stress marker also were inhibited by LRIC treatment. To further explore underlying mechanisms, plasma from LRIC treated animals was intravenously transfused into high-IOP animals. The results showed plasma injection decreased caspase 9 expression and DHE staining signals compared with that in high IOP retinas. CONCLUSION: These data suggest that LRIC treatments exert retinal protective effects against high-IOP injury. Endogenous humoral factors release into the circulation by LRIC may contribute to homeostatic protection by reducing monocyte infiltration and/or microglia activation.

PURPOSE: The objective of this study was to develop a novel single opening&closing pulsatile flow in-vitro valve tester for direct measurement of closing volume of the heart valve. METHODS: A single opening&closing valve tester was composed of a piston pump, valve mounting chamber, reservoir, measurement and control system. The piston pump was used to drive a valve to open and close with dictated flow which comprised three phases of accelerated, constant, and decelerated flow with six slopes. A high speed camera was used to record valve opening and closing images. Two pressure transducers across the tested valve were used to capture the ending time of valve closing which was verified by the high-speed photography. The closing time was measured and closing volume was calculated with a piston displacement volume during valve closing. A tilting disc valve and porcine mitral valve were tested. RESULTS: There was a big difference in flowrate between the Transonic flowmeter and piston pump. The heart valve opened and closed under the dictated flow driven by the piston pump. The transvalvular pressure was minor during valve opening and then increased sharply during valve closing. The closing time varied approximately linearly with the slope of the decelerated flow and was comparable between the two methods by the transvalvular pressure and high-speed photography. The closing volumes did not change much with the slope of the decelerated flow and were 7.0 ± 1.0 and 14.0 ± 1.5 mL for the tilting disc valve and mitral valve, respectively. CONCLUSION: Pulsatile flow is challenging to the flowmeter. A novel single opening&closing pulsatile flow in-vitro valve tester for the heart valve has successfully been developed and can be used to simulate and evaluate the opening and closing hemodynamics of the heart valve. The tester can be used to measure valve closing volume and time accurately with a standardized testing protocol free from effect of other components such as the resistance, compliance units and auxiliary valve in the continuous pulsatile flow valve tester.

AIMS: Muscle and adipose tissue-derived mesenchymal stem cells presented high osteogenic potentials, which modulate osteoblast function through releasing extracellular vesicles (EVs) containing miRNAs. Herein, this study evaluated the function of bone marrow mesenchymal stem cell-derived extracellular vesicles (BMSC-EVs) delivering miR-497-5p in ossification of the posterior longitudinal ligament (OPLL). MAIN METHODS: The expression level of miR-497-5p was validated in ossified posterior longitudinal ligament (PLL) tissues and BMSC-EVs. The uptake of BMSC-EVs by ligament fibroblasts was observed by immunofluorescence. miR-497-5p was overexpressed or downregulated to assess its role in osteogenic differentiation of ligament fibroblasts. Further, an OPLL rat model was established to substantiate the effect of BMSC-EVs enriched with miR-497-5p on OPLL. KEY FINDINGS: Ossified PLL tissues presented with high miR-497-5p expression. PLL fibroblasts were identified to endocytose BMSC-EVs. BMSC-EVs could upregulate miR-497-5p and shuttle it to ligament fibroblasts to accelerate the osteogenic differentiation. miR-497-5p targeted and inversely regulated RSPO2. Then, RSPO2 overexpression activated Wnt/ß-catenin pathway and repressed the osteogenic differentiation of ligament fibroblasts. In vivo experiments further showed that miR-497-5p-containing BMSC-EVs enhanced OPLL through diminishing RSPO2 and inactivating Wnt/ß-catenin pathway. SIGNIFICANCE: BMSC-EVs could deliver miR-497-5p to ligament fibroblasts and modulate RSPO2-mediated Wnt/ß-catenin pathway, thereby accelerating OPLL.

Due to high need for medical purposes, multiple harvests of mugwort (Artemisia argyi) have been extensively applied in China for the increase of mugwort yield recently. However, the investigation on the mineral elements in different crops, which are significantly related to mugwort growth and the clinical efficacy of this medicinal herb, has not been conducted. This study provided an analytical method and quality evaluation for mineral elements in Nanyang mugwort leaves harvested from three different crops. The contents of 35 mineral elements were determined by inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) and inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectrometry (ICP-AES). ANOVA, principal component analysis and factor analysis were applied to evaluate the results. Four principal components were identified and their comprehensive evaluation function was as follows: F = 0.7008Fl + 0.1236F2 + 0.0936F3 + 0.0321F4. The comprehensive scores of the mugwort leaves from different crops were ranked as follows: 3rd crop > 2nd crop ≈ 1st crop. These findings can provide a reference for the quality control and clinical use of mugwort leaves, and a guidance of differential nourishing strategies for different crops.

Lamiophlomis rotata (Benth.) Kudo is a herbaceous plant of the family Lamiaceae, subfamily Lamioideae. Approximately, 127 chemical constituents have been isolated and identified from L. rotata, including iridoids, flavonoids, phenylethanoid glycosides, polysaccharides, and organic acids. These chemical constituents have extensive pharmacological properties, which include anti-nociceptive, haemostatic, anti-inflammatory, anti-tumour, immunomodulatory, antioxidant, and cardio-protective activities. Documentation of its historical use in traditional medicine and contemporary phytochemical and pharmacological research indicate that L. rotata has significant potential in therapeutic and health care applications. Both whole extracts and individual chemical components isolated from this plant exhibit a wide range of biological activities that warrant further investigation. These investigations can be assisted by careful review of existing traditional knowledge from diverse cultural backgrounds. A new search for chemical and biological markers and reinforced protection of the germplasm resources of L. rotata are also important to ensure targeted and sustainable use of this medicinal resource. The aim of this review was to provide comprehensive information on the botanical characteristics, traditional uses, ethnopharmacology, chemical and pharmacological properties, toxicity profile, and conservation status of L. rotata, to improve understanding of its mechanisms of action so that novel therapeutic agents may be developed from this plant.

Apigenin is a naturally occurring compound with anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and anticancer properties. Here, we investigated the effects of apigeninin inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and colitis-associated cancer (CAC). Apigenin effectively inhibited ulcerative colitis, a type of IBD, and CAC. Apigenin decreased myeloperoxidase (MPO), inflammatory cytokine and COX-2 levels, and it attenuated inflammatory cell infiltration in treated colon tissues as compared to untreated model colon tissues. Apigenin also reduced NF-κB and STAT3 activity in vitro and in vivo, thereby inhibiting inflammation and inflammation-induced carcinogenesis. Thus apigenin appears to inhibit inflammation and inflammation-induced carcinogenesisin IBD and CAC by suppressing STAT3-NF-κB signaling.

Sesquiterpene lactones (SL) have a wide range of applications in anti-tumor and anti-inflammatory therapy. However, the pharmacological mechanism of such substances is not clear. In this study, parthenolide (PTL) was used as an example to explore the anti-tumor effect of natural molecules and their common mechanism. We showed that PTL inhibited the proliferation and migration by reverse EMT via the ERK2/NF-κB/Snail pathway in vivo and in vitro. Interestingly, Multiple potential targets of PTL contain a Gly-Leu-Ser/Lys-"co-adaptation pocket". This inspiring us analogies of PTL may also bind to these target proteins and play a similar function. Significantly, the Concept of co-adaptation pocket may help to increase the selectivity of drug research and development.

Cold exposure is an external stress factor that causes skin frostbite as well as a variety of diseases. Estrogen might participate in neuroprotection after cold exposure, but its precise mechanism remains unclear. In this study, mice were exposed to 10°C for 7 days and 0-4°C for 30 days to induce a model of chronic cold exposure. Results showed that oxidative stress-related c-fos and cyclooxygenase 2 expressions, MAP1LC3-labeled autophagic cells, Iba1-labeled activated microglia, and interleukin-1ß-positive pyramidal cells were increased in the hippocampal CA1 area. Chronic cold exposure markedly elevated the levels of estrogen in the blood and the estrogen receptor, G protein-coupled receptor 30. These results indicate that neuroimmunoreactivity is involved in chronic cold exposure-induced pathological alterations, including oxidative stress, neuronal autophagy, and neuroimmunoreactivity. Moreover, estrogen exerts a neuroprotective effect on cold exposure.

BACKGROUND: We designed an easy posterolateral transforaminal endoscopic decompression technique, termed PTES, for radiculopathy secondary to lumbar disc herniation. The purpose of the study is to describe the technique of PTES and evaluate the efficacy and safety for treatment of lumbar disc herniation including primary herniation, reherniation, intracanal herniation, and extracanal herniation and to report outcome and complications. METHODS: PTES was performed to treat 209 cases of intracanal or extracanal herniations with or without extruding or sequestrated fragment, high iliac crest, scoliosis, calcification, or cauda equina syndrome including recurrent herniation after previous surgical intervention at the index level or adjacent disc herniation after decompression and fusion. Preoperative and postoperative leg pain was evaluated using the 10-point visual analog scale (VAS) and the results were determined to be excellent, good, fair, or poor according to the MacNab classification at 2-year follow-up. RESULTS: The patients were followed for an average of 26.3 ± 2.3 months. The VAS score of leg pain significantly dropped from 9 (6-10) before operation to 1 (0-3) (P < 0.001) immediately after the operation and to 0 (0-3) (P < 0.001) 2 years after operation. At 2-year follow-up, 95.7% (200/209) of the patients showed excellent or good outcomes, 2.9% (6/209) fair and 1.4% (3/209) poor. No patients had any form of permanent iatrogenic nerve damage and a major complication, although there were one case of infection and one case of recurrence. CONCLUSIONS: PTES for lumbar disc herniation is an effective and safe method with simple orientation, easy puncture, reduced steps, and little X-ray exposure, which can be applied in almost all kinds of lumbar disc herniation, including L5/S1 level with high iliac crest, herniation with scoliosis or calcification, recurrent herniation, and adjacent disc herniation after decompression and fusion. The learning curve is no longer steep for surgeons.

To investigate the pattern of neural differentiation and synaptogenesis in the mouse retina, immunolabeling, BrdU assay and transmission electron microscopy were used. We show that the neuroblastic cell layer is the germinal zone for neural differentiation and retinal lamination. Ganglion cells differentiated initially at embryonic day 13 (E13), and at E18 horizontal cells appeared in the neuroblastic cell layer. Neural stem cells in the outer neuroblastic cell layer differentiated into photoreceptor cells as early as postnatal day 0 (P0), and neural stem cells in the inner neuroblastic cell layer differentiated into bipolar cells at P7. Synapses in the retina were mainly located in the outer and inner plexiform layers. At P7, synaptophysin immunostaining appeared in presynaptic terminals in the outer and inner plexiform layers with button-like structures. After P14, presynaptic buttons were concentrated in outer and inner plexiform layers with strong staining. These data indicate that neural differentiation and synaptogenesis in the retina play important roles in the formation of retinal neural circuitry. Our study showed that the period before P14, especially between P0 and P14, represents a critical period during retinal development. Mouse eye opening occurs during that period, suggesting that cell differentiation and synaptic formation lead to the attainment of visual function.

BACKGROUND: The interaction between activated microglia and T lymphocytes can yield abundant pro-inflammatory cytokines. Our previous study proved that thymus immune tolerance could alleviate the inflammatory response. This study aimed to investigate whether intrathymic injection of myelin basic protein (MBP) in mice could suppress the inflammatory response after co-culture of T lymphocytes and BV-2 microglia cells. METHODS: Totally, 72 male C57BL/6 mice were randomly assigned to three groups (n = 24 in each): Group A: intrathymic injection of 100 µl MBP (1 mg/ml); Group B: intrathymic injection of 100 µl phosphate-buffered saline (PBS); and Group C: sham operation group. Every eight mice in each group were sacrificed to obtain the spleen at postoperative days 3, 7, and 14, respectively. T lymphocytes those were extracted and purified from the spleens were then co-cultured with activated BV-2 microglia cells at a proportion of 1:2 in the medium containing MBP for 3 days. After identified the T lymphocytes by CD3, surface antigens of T lymphocytes (CD4, CD8, CD152, and CD154) and BV-2 microglia cells (CD45 and CD54) were detected by flow cytometry. The expressions of pro-inflammatory factors of BV-2 microglia cells (interleukin [IL]-1ß, tumor necrosis factor-α [TNF-α], and inducible nitric oxide synthase [iNOS]) were detected by quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (PCR). One-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) and the least significant difference test were used for data analysis. RESULTS: The levels of CD152 in Group A showed an upward trend from the 3rd to 7th day, with a downward trend from the 7th to 14th day (20.12 ± 0.71%, 30.71 ± 1.14%, 13.50 ± 0.71% at postoperative days 3, 7, and 14, respectively, P < 0.05). The levels of CD154 in Group A showed a downward trend from the 3rd to 7th day, with an upward trend from the 7th to 14th day (10.00 ± 0.23%, 5.28 ± 0.69%, 14.67 ± 2.71% at postoperative days 3, 7, and 14, respectively, P < 0.05). The ratio of CD4+/CD8 + T in Group A showed a downward trend from the 3rd to 7th day, with the minimum at postoperative day 7, then an upward trend from the 7th to 14th day (P < 0.05). Meanwhile, the levels of CD45 and CD54 in Group A were found as the same trend as the ratio of CD4+/CD8 + T (CD45: 83.39 ± 2.56%, 82.74 ± 2.09%, 87.56 ± 2.11%; CD54: 3.80 ± 0.24%, 0.94 ± 0.40%, 3.41 ± 0.33% at postoperative days 3, 7, and 14, respectively, P < 0.05). The expressions of TNF-α, IL-1ß, and iNOS in Group A were significantly lower than those in Groups B and C, and the values at postoperative day 7 were the lowest compared with those at postoperative days 3 and 14 (P < 0.05). No significant difference was found between Groups B and C. CONCLUSIONS: Intrathymic injection of MBP could suppress the immune reaction that might reduce the secondary immune injury of brain tissue induced by an inflammatory response.
