RESUMEN

Honey, with its varied and extensive characteristics, is a complex and diverse biological substance that has been used since ancient times. The aim of this study is to thoroughly characterize the physicochemical, phytochemical, and biological properties of four floral honey varieties from the Fez-Meknes region in Morocco, with the goal of promoting the valorization of Moroccan honey in skincare and cosmetic products. The analyses of their physicochemical characteristics encompass various parameters such as pH, acidity, density, water content, Brix index, conductivity, ash content, hydroxymethylfurfural (HMF) content, and color. The levels of polyphenols range from 22.1 ± 0.4 to 69.3 ± 0.17 mg GAE/100 g of honey, measured using the Folin-Ciocalteu method for polyphenol quantification. Additionally, the estimation of flavonoid quantities in 100 g of honey, conducted using the aluminum trichloride method, reveals values ranging from 3.6 ± 0.2 to 7.2 ± 0.6 mg QE. Furthermore, it is noteworthy that honey exhibits high levels of glucose and relatively low concentrations of proteins. The quantitative evaluation of antioxidant effects, carried out through the 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl free-radical-scavenging method and the ferric-reducing antioxidant power (FRAP) method, highlights the strong antioxidant capacity of multifloral honey, characterized by low inhibitory concentration values (IC50 = 30.43 mg/mL and EC50 = 16.06 mg/mL). Moreover, all honey varieties demonstrate antibacterial and antifungal properties, with multifloral honey standing out for its particularly pronounced antimicrobial activity. The correlation analyses between phytochemical composition and antioxidant and antibacterial activities reveal an inverse relationship between polyphenols and IC50 (DPPH) and EC50 (FRAP) concentrations of honey. The correlation coefficients are established at R2 = -0.97 and R2 = -0.99, respectively. Additionally, a significant negative correlation is observed between polyphenols, flavonoids, and antifungal power (R2 = -0.95 and R2 = -0.96). In parallel, a marked positive correlation is highlighted between antifungal efficacy, DPPH antioxidant activity (R2 = 0.95), and FRAP (R2 = 0.92). These results underscore the crucial importance of phytochemical components in the beneficial properties of honey, meeting international quality standards. Consequently, honey could serve as a natural alternative to synthetic additives.

Immune checkpoint inhibitors and immune-related biomarkers are increasingly investigated in rectal cancer (RC). We retrospectively analysed PD-L1 expression in diagnostic biopsy and resection samples from RC patients treated at our centre between 2000 and 2020. PD-L1 immunostaining (22C3 clone) was evaluated according to tumour proportion (TPS), immune cell (ICS), and the combined positive score (CPS). Eighty-three patients were included. At diagnosis, PD-L1 expression ≥1%/≥5% was observed in 15.4%/0%, 80.7%/37.4%, and 69.2%/25.6% of patients based on TPS, ICS, and CPS, respectively. At surgery, the respective figures were 4.6%/1.5%, 60.2%/32.5%, and 50.7%/26.2%. Using the 1% cut-off and regardless of the scoring system, PD-L1 was less expressed in surgery than biopsy samples (p ≤ 0.04). In paired specimens, PD-L1-ICS reduction was especially observed following neoadjuvant long-course (chemo)radiotherapy (p = 0.03). PD-L1-ICS of ≥5% in surgical samples (HR: 0.17; p = 0.02), and a biopsy-to-surgery increase in PD-L1-ICS (HR: 0.19; p = 0.04) was predictive for longer disease-free survival, while the PD-L1-ICS of either ≥1% (HR 0.28; p = 0.04) or ≥5% (HR 0.19; p = 0.03) in surgical samples and the biopsy-to-surgery increase in PD-L1-ICS (HR: 0.20; p = 0.04) were associated with better overall survival. Our study suggests that PD-L1 expression in RC is largely reflective of immune cell infiltration, and its presence/increase in surgical samples predicts better outcomes.

The COVID-19 pandemic has introduced new challenges in managing neurological conditions, particularly among athletes. This paper explores the intersection of post-COVID-19 neurological syndrome (PCNS/PASC) and post-concussion syndrome (PCS), focusing on their implications in sports medicine. Our analysis covers the symptomatology, pathophysiology, and management strategies for PCNS/PASC and PPCS, with special attention paid to the unique challenges faced by athletes recovering from these conditions, including the risk of symptom exacerbation and prolonged recovery. Key findings reveal that both PCNS/PASC and PPCS present with overlapping symptoms such as cognitive difficulties, exercise intolerance, and mental health issues, but differ in specific manifestations like anosmia and ageusia, unique to COVID-19. Pathophysiological analysis reveals similarities in blood-brain barrier disruption (BBB) but differences in the extent of immune activation. Management strategies emphasize a gradual increase in physical activity, close symptom monitoring, and psychological support, with a tailored approach for athletes. Specific interventions include progressive aerobic exercises, resistance training, and cognitive rehabilitation. Furthermore, our study highlights the importance of integrating neurology, psychiatry, physical therapy, and sports medicine to develop comprehensive care strategies. Our findings underscore the dual challenge of COVID-19 and concussion in athletes, necessitating a nuanced, interdisciplinary approach to effective management. Future research should focus on the long-term neurological effects of both conditions and optimizing treatment protocols to improve patient outcomes. This comprehensive understanding is crucial for advancing the management of athletes affected by these overlapping conditions and ensuring their safe return to sports.

Anemia is a widespread global health concern necessitating effective, accessible, and natural interventions. The potential of medicinal plants to address anemia has garnered significant interest. Among these plants, parsley (Petroselinum crispum (Petroselinum crispum) L.) stands out as an edible and herbal-based option for combating anemia. Aim of the study: This study investigated the potential of P. crispum (PC-Ext) as an emerging antianemic product, focusing on its physicochemical attributes, antioxidant properties, and mineral profile. Both qualitative and quantitative analyses of the phenolic compounds in P. crispum were conducted by using high-performance liquid chromatography with a diode array detector (HPLC-DAD). Anemia was induced in rats by intravenous injections of phenylhydrazine, administered at a dose of 40 mg/kg for two consecutive days. The antianemic activity of PC-Ext was assessed at a dose of 500 mg/kg twice daily for 5 weeks by estimating blood parameters, such as serum iron and ferritin. Additionally, the osmotic fragility test measured the capacity of red blood cells to withstand osmotic shock of various concentrations of saline. Aqueous extract of P. crispum was rich in phytochemical compounds, including syringic acid, quercetin, catechin, gallic acid, and luteolin. The findings demonstrate the effectiveness of P. crispum in ameliorating phenylhydrazine-induced reductions in red blood cell count (RBCs), hemoglobin (Hb), and hematocrit (HCT) levels. Consequently, PC-Ext exhibits significant activity against phenylhydrazine-induced anemia in rats, as demonstrated by its ability to prevent hemolysis. Iron estimation within PC-Ext further confirms its utility in addressing both iron deficiency and ferritin-deficiency anemia. Therefore, PC exhibits a favorable effect against both types of anemia, iron deficiency, and hemolysis. The results of this study provide robust scientific validation for ethnomedicinal use and the potential utility of P. crispum, positioning it as a promising source for future pharmaceutical development.

OBJECTIVES: We sought to investigate the morphologic and immunophenotypic characteristics of TCL1 family-negative T-cell prolymphocytic leukemia (T-PLL). METHODS: Twenty cases of TCL1 family-negative T-PLL were studied. RESULTS: The doubling time of leukemic cells ranged from less than 2 days to more than 5 years, with a median of 5.5 months. Leukemic cells were small to medium-sized, with round to irregular nuclei, variably condensed chromatin, and small amounts of agranular cytoplasm. A visible nucleolus was identified in 11 (55%) cases. Cytoplasmic blebs/protrusions were identified in all cases, but their occurrence was highly variable from case to case. Bone marrow biopsy showed an interstitial pattern in 90% of cases and a diffuse pattern in the remaining 10% of cases. Flow cytometric immunophenotypic analysis showed that the leukemic cells in all cases were CD4 positive; 3 (15%) also showed concurrent CD8 expression. All cases were positive for CD2 and CD5. Surface CD3 and CD7 were positive in 19 of 20 (95%) cases, and all CD3-positive cases expressed the T-cell receptor αß. Compared with prototypic T-PLL cases, these 2 groups shared many immunophenotypic findings, except CD8 and CD26, both of which were more commonly expressed in prototypic T-PLL cases. CONCLUSIONS: TCL1 family-negative T-PLL cases have morphologic and immunophenotypic features that are similar to prototypic T-PLL. They are characterized by neoplastic proliferation of small to medium-sized mature T cells with CD4-positive T-cell receptor αß phenotype. Tumor cells frequently maintain pan-T antigen expression. Recognizing these morphologic and immunophenotypic features will aid in accurately diagnosing this rare subset of T-PLL.

Concerns about challenges with water availability in the Tadla Plain region of Morocco have grown as a result of groundwater contamination brought on by human activity, climate change, and insufficient groundwater management. The objective of the study is to measure the number of resistant bacteria in the groundwater of Beni Moussa and Beni Aamir, as well as to evaluate the level of water pollution in this area. 200 samples were therefore gathered from 43 wells over the course of four seasonal campaigns in 2017 and 2018. Additionally, the samples were examined to determine whether Salmonella species were present and if they were resistant to the 16 antibiotics that were tested. Salmonella spp. have been identified in 31 isolated strains in total, accounting for 18.02% of all isolated strains. Data on antibiotic resistance show that 58.1% of Salmonella spp. strains are multidrug-resistant (MDR); 38.7% of Salmonella strains are tolerant to at least six antibiotics, 19.4% to at least nine antibiotics, 9.7% to four to seven antibiotics, 6.5% to at least eleven antibiotics, and the remaining 3.2% to up to twelve antibiotics. A considerable level of resistance to cefepime (61.29%), imipenem (54.84%), ceftazidime (45.16%), ofloxacin (70.97%), and ertapenem (74.19%) was found in the data. Consequently, it is important to monitor and regulate the growth of MDR in order to prevent the groundwater's quality from declining.

Introduction: Coriandrum sativum L. essential oil (CS-EO) is being evaluated in vitro for its antioxidant and antimicrobial properties, and its volatile compounds are to be identified as part of this exploratory study. Methods: The processes underlying the in vitro biological properties were explained using in silico simulations, including drug-likeness prediction, molecular docking, and pharmacokinetics (absorption, distribution, metabolism, excretion, and toxicity-ADMET). Chemical screening of CS-EO was conducted using gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). Five in vitro complementary techniques were used to assess the antioxidant activity of CS-EO: reducing power (RP), 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH), 2,2'-azinobis (3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonate) (ABTS) radical scavenging activity, ß-Carotene bleaching test (BCBT), and phosphomolybdenum assay (TAC). Results: According to GC-MS analysis, linalool (59.04%), γ-Terpinene (13.02%), and α-Pinene (6.83%) are the main constituents of CS-EO. Based on the in vitro antioxidant assay results, CS-EO has been found to have a superior antioxidant profile. Its estimated scavenging rates for ABTS+ are 0.51 ± 0.04 mg/mL, BCBT is 9.02 ± 0.01 mg/mL, and CS-EO is 1.52 ± 0.14 mg/mL. C. sativum demonstrated 6.13 ± 0.00 µg/mL for reducing power and 213.44 ± 0.45 mg AAE/mL for total antioxidant activity. The in vitro antimicrobial activity of CS-EO was assessed against five strains, including two gram-positive bacteria, two gram-negative bacteria, and one fungal strain (Candida albicans). Significant antibacterial and antifungal activities against all strains were found using the disc-diffusion assay, with zones of inhibition larger than 15 mm. The microdilution test highlighted the lowest MIC and MBC values with gram-positive bacteria, ranging from 0.0612 to 0.125% v/v for MIC and 0.125% v/v for MBC. The fungal strain's MFC was 1.0% v/v and its MIC was measured at 0.5%. Based on the MBC/MIC and MFC/MIC ratios, CS-EO exhibits bactericidal and fungicidal activity. The ADMET study indicates that the primary CS-EO compounds are good candidates for the development of pharmaceutical drugs due to their favorable pharmacokinetic properties. Conclusion: These results point to a potential application of this plant as a natural remedy and offer empirical backing for its traditional uses. It is a promising environmentally friendly preservative that can be used extensively in the food and agricultural industries to prevent aflatoxin contamination and fungal growth in stored goods.

Kartagener's syndrome is an uncommon autosomal recessive ciliary dyskinesia. It combines a triad comprised of bronchiectasis, chronic sinusitis, and situs inversus. This work aims to describe the clinical and paraclinical aspects of primary ciliary dyskinesia using Kartagener's syndrome as a model and to highlight the difficulties of confirming the diagnosis in our context. We report four observations (three boys and one girl with an average age of 10 years) of Kartagener's syndrome collected in the department of pediatric pneumo-allergology. Chronic bronchorrhea and otorhinolaryngological manifestations were found in all cases. Signs of neonatal respiratory distress syndrome were found in only one case. One child had dysmorphic facial features suggestive of Noonan's syndrome and conductive hearing loss. Digital hippocratism was found in half of the cases, along with pulmonary crackles and heart sounds perceived on the right. A chest CT scan showed bronchiectasis in all patients and necrotic adenopathy suggestive of tuberculosis in one case. Sinus imaging showed an appearance of pansinusitis. All children had abdominal situs inversus with dextrocardia. They had received antibiotic therapy with amoxicillin-clavulanic acid associated with respiratory physiotherapy. The girl had benefited from a right lobectomy with a follow-up of 18 months and a good evolution. In light of these four observations, Kartagener's syndrome is a rare disease but can be compatible with normal life if the treatment is done early. However, in our context, the difficulty of confirming the diagnosis explains its delay with the risk of progression of pulmonary lesions.

Background: Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a major public health problem that remains largely under-diagnosed, mainly due to the under-use of spirometry to establish the diagnosis. The aim of this study is to evaluate the effectiveness of the Moroccan Arabic dialect version of the COPD Assessment Test (CAT) in screening for COPD. Methods: This was a cross-sectional study carried out in primary care facilities in Morocco, involving participants aged 40 and over. The performance of CAT in detecting cases of COPD was measured with reference to the results of spirometry, considered to be the gold Standard. Results: A total of 477 participants were included in the study. The prevalence of COPD was 6.7%. Internal consistency of the Moroccan Arabic dialect version of the CAT was high, with a Cronbach's alpha of 0.89. The total score of the CAT and of each item was significantly higher in subjects with COPD than in those without (P=0.000). Significantly negative correlations were found between CAT total score and FEV1 (r = -0.33, p=0.000), CAT and FVC (r = -0.22, p=0.000), CAT and FEV1/FVC ratio (r = -0.22, p=0.000). The receiver operating characteristic curve showed an area under the curve of 0.93. A CAT score of 10 was the optimal cut-off value for COPD screening, with a sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value, and negative predictive value of 78.1%, 93.9%, 48.1% and 98.4%, respectively. Conclusion: The results of the present study showed that the CAT could be used as a screening tool for COPD. The use of this tool by healthcare professionals in primary care settings will improve and promote early diagnosis of this chronic disease.

Phosphorus constitutes a crucial macronutrient for crop growth, yet its availability often limits food production. Efficient phosphorus management is crucial for enhancing crop yields and ensuring food security. This study aimed to enhance the efficiency of a short-chain polyphosphate (PolyP) fertilizer by integrating it with plant growth-promoting bacteria (PGPB) to improve nutrient solubilization and wheat growth. Specifically, the study investigated the effects of various bacterial strains on wheat germination and growth when used in conjunction with PolyP. To achieve this, a greenhouse experiment was conducted in which the wheat rhizosphere was amended with a short-chain PolyP fertilizer. Based on the morphological aspect, eight bacteria, designated P1 to P8, were isolated and further characterized. Plant growth-promoting traits were observed in all bacterial strains, as they presented the ability to produce Indole Acetic Acid (IAA) in significant amounts ranging from 7.5 ± 0.3 µg/mL to 44.1 ± 2 µg/mL, expressed by B. tropicus P4 and P. soyae P1, respectively. They also produced ammonia, hydrogen cyanide (HCN), and siderophores. Their effect against the plant pathogen Fusarium culmorum was also assessed, with P. reinekei P2 demonstrating the highest biocontrol activity as it presented a total inhibitory effect. Additionally, some strains exhibited the ability to solubilize/hydrolyze phosphorus, potassium, and zinc. In vivo, the initial growth potential of wheat seeds indicated that those inoculated with the isolated strains exhibited elevated germination rates and enhanced root growth. Based on their plant growth-promoting traits and performance in the germination assay, three strains were selected for producing the best results, specifically phosphorus hydrolyzation/solubilization, zinc solubilization, IAA production, HCN, and siderophores production. Wheat seeds were inoculated by drenching in a bacterial suspension containing 1010 CFU/mL of log phase culture, and an in planta bioassay was conducted in a growth chamber using three selected strains (Pseudomonas soyae P1, Pseudomonas reinekei P2, and Bacillus tropicus P4), applied either individually or with PolyP on a P-deficient soil (28 mg/kg of P Olsen). Our findings demonstrated that the combination of Pseudomonas soyae P1 and PolyP achieved the highest shoot biomass, averaging 41.99 ± 0.87 g. Notably, applying P. soyae P1 or Bacillus tropicus P4 alone yielded similar results to the use of PolyP alone. At the heading growth stage, the combination of Bacillus tropicus P4 and PolyP significantly increased the Chlorophyll Content Index (CCI) to 37.02 µmol/m2, outperforming both PolyP alone (24.07 µmol/m2) and the control (23.06 µmol/m2). This study presents an innovative approach combining short-chain PolyP with bacterial biostimulants to enhance nutrient availability and plant growth. By identifying and characterizing effective bacterial strains, it offers a sustainable alternative to conventional fertilizers.

This study interprets aeromagnetic data from the Tizi n'Test area in the High Atlas massif of Morocco, aiming to gain insights into its litho-structural architecture and implications for mineral exploration and mining. We employed six different analytical techniques to the residual magnetic field data, including reduction to the pole (RTP), upward continuation, total horizontal derivative, Tilt angle, Centre for Exploration Targeting (CET) analysis, and Euler deconvolution. Our analyses differentiated the study area into three magnetic domains: the eastern Ouzellarh block, characterized by positive anomalies, a central domain characterized by a negative magnetic signature demarcating the transitional zone between the Anti-Atlas and the High Atlas separated by the Ouchden fault: and the western domain, represented by the Tichka massif. The application of total horizontal derivative, tilt angle, and a combination of filters in ternary image formats (Tilt angle, upward continuation 1000 + Tilt angle and upward continuation 3000 + Tilt angle) revealed both known and previously unidentified geological lineaments, mapping structural complexity across various orientations (NE-SW, NNE-SSE, E-W, NW-SE, and N-S). The CET grid analysis method unveiled the structural complexity, highlighting the geodynamic evolution of the region. Particularly, the Ouchden fault delineates a magnetic domain divide between the ancient High Atlas and the Ouzellarh block (Anti-Atlas). Furthermore, Euler deconvolution indicated magnetic source depths ranging from 52 m in the western domain of the Tichka massif to 6560 m in the Ouzellarh block. A comprehensive structural scheme, classified by C-A fractal analysis, identified zones favourable for exploration and mining, particularly along the Ouchden fault, Tizi n'Test, NE-SW trending lineaments in the northwestern domain, as well as along the Tichka granite's margin.

Chenopodium ambrosioides aerial parts have been historically employed in traditional medicine for addressing various ailments such as headaches, abdominal discomfort, joint issues, and respiratory disorders, alongside treatments for lice and warts. This study aimed to conduct a comprehensive phytochemical analysis of C. ambrosioides and assess the acute and subacute toxicity of oral treatments using fractions in preclinical trials. Spectrophotometric analysis via LC-MS/MS was used to characterize the plant's chemical composition. Acute toxicity evaluation followed Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development code 42 guidelines, conducted on adult male and female Wistar strain mice. Subsequently, Swiss mice were divided into six groups for the subacute toxicity study, receiving oral doses of 200 mg/kg extracts and fractions for 28 days. Daily observations and biochemical analyses were performed, with LC-MS/MS revealing a diverse array of compounds including organic acids, flavonoids, phenolic acids, rutin, hesperidin, nicotiflorine, and fumaric acid. Results indicated no lethality or alterations in body weight in treated groups, though some organ weight changes were noted. Biochemical analyses demonstrated values within the normal range for all groups, suggesting that the treatments did not induce adverse effects. Acute and subacute treatments with fractions did not result in lethality or toxic alterations at therapeutic doses, implying the safety of the product at appropriate levels. This study underscores the potential of C. ambrosioides as a safe therapeutic option warranting further exploration.

In Algeria, the issue of antibiotic resistance is on the rise, being the Staphylococcus aureus infection as a significant concern of hospital-acquired infections. The emergence of antibiotic resistance in this bacterium poses a worldwide challenge. The aim of this study aims to establish the incidence of S aureus strains in Algeria as well as identify phenotypic and genotypic resistance based on the "mecA" and "nuc" genes. From 2014 to 2017, a total of 185 S aureus strains were isolated from patients at a hospital in the city of Rouïba, Algiers the number of isolates was slightly higher in males at 58.06% compared to females at 41.94%, resulting in a sex ratio of 1.38. the Oxacillin and Cefoxitin DD test (1 µg oxacillin disk and 30 µg cefoxitin disk) identified 42 strains as resistant. The results indicated high resistance to lactam antibiotics, with penicillin having a 100% resistance rate. There was also significant resistance to oxacillin (51.25%) and cefoxitin (50%). This resistance was frequently associated with resistance to other antibiotic classes, such as aminoglycosides (50%) and Macrolides (28.29%). To confirm methicillin-resistant characteristics, a polymerase chain reaction (PCR) multiplex was conducted on 10 isolates (6 SARM; 4 MSSA) on a phenotypic level. Three isolates tested positive for "mecA," while 7 were negative. All strains carry the nuc gene, which is specific to S aureus. In Algeria, the incidence of S aureus resistance is slightly lower compared to other countries, but it is increasing over time. It is now more crucial than ever to restrict the proliferation of multidrug-resistant strains and reduce undue antibiotic prescriptions. To achieve this, it is vital to keep updated on the epidemiology of this bacterium and its antibiotic susceptibility. This will enable the formulation of appropriate preventive control measures to manage its progression.

Superior semicircular canal (SSC) dehiscence syndrome, also known as Minor syndrome, is a rare condition characterized by vestibular and cochlear symptoms linked to a defect in the bony roof of the SSC. The prevalence is estimated at 0.5%, with a male predominance. Dehiscence may result from abnormal bone development, becoming symptomatic due to minimal trauma or pressure changes. Clinical presentation varies based on dehiscence size and location, with dizziness and oscillatory movements triggered by pressure changes or loud sounds being common symptoms. Other manifestations include conductive hearing loss due to the formation of a ``third window'' in the inner ear. Diagnosis typically involves computed tomography, distinguishing SSCDS from otosclerosis. Surgical treatment is reserved for cases of disabling vestibular pathology, often involving sealing the dehiscence through various approaches.

While most cases involve Enterobacterales, Haemophilus influenzae, primarily known for upper respiratory infections, is infrequently associated with gastrointestinal infections. This article presents an exceptional case of acute appendicitis caused by both Haemophilus influenza and Enterobacter cloacae in a 15-year-old child, highlighting the significance of recognizing uncommon pathogens in appendicitis and emphasizing the necessity for thorough microbiological investigations to refine diagnostic approaches.

Most of the pulmonary endobronchial lesions are malignant in origin. In rare instances, benign lesions such as endobronchial hamartoma may be the cause of the endobronchial tree obstruction. We present the case of a 57-year-old male patient from North Africa who presents with a history of a 5-month cough. Imaging, particulary CT scan, showed a mass on the right intermediate bronchus whose radiological characteristics are consistent with hamartoma. A biopsy of the mass obtained via bronchoscopy revealed chronic inflammation with no evidence for malignancy. The patient was treated surgically, and anatomopathology confirmed the diagnosis of hamartoma.

Introduction: Median canaliform dystrophy of Heller (MCDH) is a rare nail disorder that typically affects the thumbnails and is characterized by transverse ridges radiating from a paramedian canal or split in the nail plate, bearing resemblance to a fir tree. Case Report: We report here a case of a 60-year-old woman of rural origin, a carpet weaver, with no specific medical history. She was referred due to nail dystrophy on her thumbs that had been progressing over the last 10 years. Clinical examination revealed the presence of a midline splitting with a fir tree-like appearance of ridges angled backwards and normal cuticle. These lesions were symmetrically present on both thumbnails and the big toe nail. Based on this presentation, a diagnosis of Heller's canaliform dystrophy was established. Conclusion: Although the pathophysiology of MCDH remains unclear, proposed mechanisms include keratinocyte adhesion abnormalities, genetic predisposition, and inflammation within the nail matrix. Risk factors encompass medications like oral retinoids and self-inflicted trauma, as seen in repetitive cuticle manipulation. In this case, the patient's nail dystrophy resulted from chronic local microtrauma due to her carpet weaving occupation, suggesting certain manual professions may contribute to MCDH development.

BACKGROUND: This study aimed to indirectly examine whether the implementation of clinical breast examination-based screening program in Morocco has been successful in downstaging and improving survival rates. Breast cancer patients detected through the screening pathway were compared with those detected through self-referral over the same period in terms of cancer stage at diagnosis, tumor characteristics, care delays, and survival. METHODS: A prospective observational study was conducted between April 2019 and August 2020 at two major public oncology centers. RESULTS: A total of 896 women with confirmed breast cancer were recruited (483 were program-referred and 413 were self-referred). The authors did not report any significant difference between the two groups in terms of stage at diagnosis, molecular profile, or histopathological grade. Early-stage cancer (stage I-II) was detected in 55.7% of self-referred participants compared to 55.5% of program-referred participants. Median intervals between symptom recognition, pathological diagnosis, and treatment initiation were not significantly different between the two groups. Similarly, survival after treatment showed no significant difference between patients screened by the program and self-referred patients. The 3-year survival rate after treatment was 94.5% for patients referred through the program and 88.6% for patients not referred through the program (p = .16). CONCLUSIONS: This study highlights the importance of equitable and timely access to high-quality diagnosis and treatment facilities, leading to substantial downstaging and enhanced survival rates. Continued efforts to improve quality and expand coverage to include asymptomatic women will consolidate the health infrastructure gains achieved by the Moroccan breast cancer screening program.

With the increasing demand of new magnetic materials for modern technological application alternatives to conventional magnetic materials, the development of lightweight polymer magnetic composites has become a prominent research area. For this perspective, a new magnetic material was developed using 30 wt% nickel ferrite micro and nanoparticles as fillers for a high-density polyethylene matrix. The development process began with the synthesis of NF-micro and NF-nanoparticles using solid-state and co-precipitation techniques, respectively, followed by extrusion molding and injection molding. The success of the synthesis process and the purity of the spinel structure phase were confirmed. Additionally, using the extrusion process produced polymer magnetic composite materials with a good distribution of magnetic particles within the polymer matrix, resulting in good magnetic properties and enhanced mechanical properties of the polymer magnetic materials.
