RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: Two cases of Mondor's disease and one case of non-venereal sclerosing lymphangitis of the penis are reviewed. We analyze the differences between both processes based on the existing literature about these pathologies. METHOD: Two clinical cases of Mondor's disease and other one with non-venereal sclerosing lymphangitis are reported. RESULTS: Due to the spontaneous and good outcome of both pathologies, the diagnosis and follow-up are difficult in both processes. CONCLUSIONS: Doppler ultrasound has a great importance for the differential diagnosis between both processes. The treatment is based on steroidal anti-inflammatories as well as sexual abstinence.

RESUMEN

We report a case of a 58-year-old male with cirrhosis and upper gastrointestinal bleeding who developed multiple lipiodol pulmonary emboli after endoscopic injection sclerotherapy for gastric variceal bleeding. The patient did not have any respiratory symptoms after the sclerotherapy. A chest radiograph, obtained 1 day after the procedure for the evaluation of fever, demonstrated multiple tubular radiopacities in both hilar regions. CT confirmed the existence of multiple radiopaque emboli within the main pulmonary arteries, a small pleural effusion, and no evidence of associated pulmonary parenchymal changes. The patient had no further symptoms, and the radiologic opacities persisted on radiographs obtained 3 months later.

RESUMEN

We report a case of a portion of bran bread impacted in the cervical esophagus in an 88-year-old woman. A complete radiologic study including ultrasonography, computed tomography, and barium swallow was performed. These techniques confirmed and localized the foreign body, which was endoscopically removed. A complete radiologic assessment can guarantee the usefulness of esophagoscopy to avoid significant morbidity from unnecessary procedures in a patient in poor clinical condition. Ultrasonography and computed tomography are attractive and profitable options in these cases.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVES: To review a group of testicular lesions either clearly benign or that may simulate malignant neoplasia on testicular ultrasound. To describe those clinical and ultrasound findings allowing to make the right differential diagnosis, and proper clinical management. METHODS: We collect a numerous series of cases seen in the Urological Radiology Unit at the University Hospital "Marques de Valdecilla", Santander (Spain), and evaluated by means of a Logiq 500 GE ultrasound. For this study we used linear multifrequency probes (6-11 mHz). RESULTS: A series of patients with benign testicular lesions are presented. The most characteristic ultrasound findings in the grey scale, color-Doppler and Angio-Doppler are reviewed. CONCLUSION: Ultrasound is the diagnostic tests of choice in the study of scrotal pathology. This technique allows easy differentiation of lesions within the testicles from extra testicular ones. Such a simple difference is of vital value because it is demonstrated that most intra testicular masses are malignant, whereas extra testicular lesions are generally benign. However, experience has demonstrated us that orchyectomies resulting in a benign histological process were the few, although significant. We describe various benign testicular lesions with characteristic ultrasound features. These features in association with patient's clinical picture and negative tumor markers allow surgery avoidance in a given patient. Then, it is a question of knowing and identifying these lesions, and differentiating them from malignant neoplasia lesions with the purpose of avoiding unnecessary surgical interventions.
