BACKGROUND: Idiopathic gingival enlargement is associated with plaque, but other contributing factors are unclear. The prognosis of idiopathic gingival enlargement is closely related to the patient's oral hygiene habits and regular follow-up. CASE PRESENTATION: This article reports a case of a 32-year-old male patient with idiopathic gingival enlargement. The patient presented to the department of stomatology with a 2-month history of gingival swelling and pain on the right upper posterior teeth. During the treatment, oral hygiene instruction, supragingival cleaning, subgingival scaling, and root planning were carried out, and part of the hyperplastic gingiva was taken and sent for pathology. Pathological examination showed gingival enlargement with chronic suppurative inflammation. At 4-month follow-up, the patient's periodontal condition remained basically stable, and the gingival enlargement did not recur. CONCLUSION: The treatment of this case resulted in significant reduction of gingival swelling and patient's pain reduction through non-surgical treatment and good plaque control, indicating that patients with idiopathic gingival enlargement can also achieve ideal results through non-surgical treatment. Through oral hygiene instruction, the patient mastered the method of self-plaque control, which is conducive to the long-term stabilization of the periodontal situation.

RESUMEN

As a breakthrough strategy for cancer treatment, immunotherapy mainly consists of immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) and other immunomodulatory drugs that provide a durable protective antitumor response by stimulating the immune system to fight cancer. However, due to the low response rate and unique toxicity profiles of immunotherapy, the strategies of combining immunotherapy with other therapies have attracted enormous attention. These combinations are designed to exert potent antitumor effects by regulating different processes in the cancer-immunity cycle. To date, immune-based combination therapy has achieved encouraging results in numerous clinical trials and has received Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approval for certain cancers with more studies underway. This review summarizes the emerging strategies of immune-based combination therapy, including combinations with another immunotherapeutic strategy, radiotherapy, chemotherapy, anti-angiogenic therapy, targeted therapy, bacterial therapy, and stroma-targeted therapy. Here, we highlight the rationale of immune-based combination therapy, the biomarkers and the clinical progress for these immune-based combination therapies.

In-situ bioprinting is attractive for directly depositing the therapy bioink at the defective organs to repair them, especially for occupations such as soldiers, athletes, and drivers who can be injured in emergency. However, traditional bioink displays obvious limitations in its complex operation environments. Here, we design a bioconcrete bioink with electrosprayed cell-laden microgels as the aggregate and gelatin methacryloyl (GelMA) precursor solution as the cement. Promising printability is guaranteed with a wide temperature range benefiting from robust rheological properties of photocrosslinked microgel aggregate and fluidity of GelMA cement. Composite components simultaneously self-adapt to biocompatibility and different tissue mechanical microenvironment. Strong binding on tissue-hydrogel interface is achieved by hydrogen bonds and friction when the cement is photocrosslinked. This bioink owns good portability and can be easily prepared in urgent accidents. Meanwhile, microgels can be cultured to mini tissues and then mixed as bioink aggregates, indicating our bioconcrete can be functionalized faster than normal bioinks. The cranial defects repair results verify the superiority of this bioink and its potential in clinical settings required in in-situ treatment.

PURPOSE: Osteoporosis, due to bone loss and structural deterioration, is a risk factor for dental implant failure, as it impedes initial stability and osseointegration. We aim to assess the effects of calcium phosphate polymer-induced liquid precursor (CaP-PILP) treatment, which significantly increases bone density and improves early implant osseointegration in ovariectomized rats. METHODS: In this study, CaP-PILP was synthesized and characterized through TEM, FTIR and XRD. A rat model of osteoporosis was generated by ovariectomy. CaP-PILP or hydroxyapatite (HAP, negative control) was injected into the tibia, and the resulting changes in bone quality were determined. Further, implants were installed in the treated tibias, and implantation characteristics were assessed after 4 weeks. RESULTS: The CaP-PILP group had superior bone repair. Importantly, CaP-PILP had excellent properties, similar to those of normal bone, in terms of implant osseointegration. In vivo experiment displayed that CaP-PILP group had better bone contact rate (65.97±3.176) than HAP and OVX groups. Meanwhile, a mound of mature and continuous new bone formed. Moreover, the values of BIC and BA showed no significant difference between the CaP-PILP group and the sham group. CONCLUSION: In summary, CaP-PILP is a promising material for application in poor-quality bones to improve implant success rates in patients with osteoporosis. This research provides new perspectives on the application of nano-apatite materials in bone repair.
