Technical complications are a leading cause of graft failure following anterior cruciate ligament reconstructions. Complications can occur during any phase of the procedure, from graft harvesting to tunnel preparation to graft fixation. Predicting potential causes of technical difficulty and developing strategies to avoid potential pitfalls can limit the number of intraoperative complications. If adverse events do occur intraoperatively, prompt recognition and treatment can lead to favorable outcomes. It is important to discuss strategies to understand potential complications and develop tactics to avoid and correct adverse events that can occur during anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction.

BACKGROUND: Over the last few decades, several databases and clinical registries have been used to generate studies for orthopedic surgery research including shoulder arthroplasty. Observational database studies present data that are best used to provide information regarding associations between variables but is unable to prove causation. Yet, there remains a tendency for authors to use causal language and conclusive statements in published shoulder arthroplasty literature using such databases. METHODS: We systematically identified administrative database and registry studies on shoulder arthroplasty in 5 orthopedic journals from January 2020 to December 2021. Papers were independently graded by 2 reviewers for the presence, absence, or inconsistent use of causal language throughout the publication. χ2 analyses were conducted to determine the relationship between causality language and article characteristics including the journal of publication. RESULTS: There were 65 eligible articles. According to the reviewers, 67.7% of titles and abstracts were either consistently causal or inconsistently causal in language and inference. On reviewing the full text, 69.2% were found to contain some degree of causal language (38.5% consistently causal, 30.8% inconsistently causal). There were no statistically significant associations between the journal and title and abstract final grading (P = .863) or the journal and full-text grading (P = .726). CONCLUSION: The use of causal language remains highly prevalent in observational database studies related to shoulder arthroplasty. Understanding the limitations of observational database studies is paramount for accurate interpretation of these publications.

Background: Prosthetic instability is one of the most common short-term complications following reverse total shoulder arthroplasty (RTSA). Numerous strategies exist to attempt to mitigate this complication, including utilization of constrained polyethylene humeral liners. A concern of constrained humeral liners is that they may come at the expense of restricted rotational range of motion (ROM). The purpose of the present study is to compare range of ROM and patient-reported outcomes (PROs), and satisfaction among matched cohorts using constrained vs. unconstrained liners after RTSA. Methods: A multicenter shoulder arthroplasty registry was retrospectively reviewed to identify patients with two-year clinical follow-up after RTSA with constrained liners used at the surgeon's discretion. All patients had the same inlay humeral prosthesis with a 135° neck shaft angle. This study cohort was matched 1:2 to control patients who underwent RTSA with standard liners based on age, sex, total glenoid-sided lateralization, glenosphere diameter, and surgery performed on the dominant arm. Improvement in PROs and ROM was compared between groups. Results: Twenty-two patients were identified who underwent RTSA with a constrained humeral liner; these were compared to 44 matched patients with standard liners. The groups were found to have no notable differences in demographics, baseline PROs and ROM. At two years postoperatively, both cohorts demonstrated improvements in all PROs without statistically significant differences between the two groups. There were no differences between groups in improvement in any ROM measure, including forward flexion (constrained: 54°, standard: 57°, P = .771), external rotation at the side (constrained: 42°, standard: 41°, P = .906) or internal rotation at 90° of abduction (constrained: 24°, standard: 20°, P = .587). Conclusions: For an inlay humeral prosthesis with a 135° neck shaft angle, utilization of a constrained liner for RTSA demonstrates no significant difference in ROM or PROs compared to a well-matched cohort of patients who underwent RTSA with a standard polyethylene humeral liner. These are reassuring data for using constrained liners when there is intraoperative concern for prosthetic instability.

BACKGROUND: A common complication of anatomic total shoulder arthroplasty (aTSA) is aseptic glenoid loosening. Monoblock polyethylene glenoid components with backside ingrowth or on-growth utilize hybrid fixation, with cementation of the peripheral pegs and central ingrowth or on-growth of bone have been designed to decrease glenoid loosening. However, there is a paucity of midterm data comparing cementation of the peripheral peg holes versus all press-fit implantation for hybrid glenoid constructs. The purpose of this study is to compare the minimum five-year clinical and radiographic outcomes of a press-fit hybrid glenoid component with a peripherally cemented hybrid glenoid component in aTSA. METHODS: Between years 2013-2015, we reviewed a total of 169 patients who underwent primary aTSA, with follow-up data spanning a minimum of five years, from an international multi-institutional database. There were 61 press-fit and 108 peripherally cemented glenoids. Shoulders were evaluated for outcome measures, which included clinical outcome scores, radiographic outcomes, and complication rates. RESULTS: Postoperatively, there were no statistically significant differences in patient satisfaction, shoulder function, pain scoring, the Simple Shoulder Test, the Constant score, the American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons score, the University of California-Los Angeles score, nor the Shoulder Pain and Disability Index, between the two cohorts. There were no significant differences in adverse events (P = .791) or revision rates (P = .592). At the final radiographic follow-up, there were no significant differences between the two groups with regard to the incidence of radiolucent lines on the glenoid (P = .210) or humeral side (P = .282). CONCLUSION: At a minimum of 5-year follow-up, aTSA with a press-fit glenoid implant demonstrates no difference in clinical or radiographic outcomes when compared with a glenoid cohort where the peripheral pegs are cemented. In addition, there is no increased rate of aseptic glenoid loosening or need for revision surgery between the two groups with a lower rate of radiolucency detected than prior midterm data studies. Uncemented press-fit glenoid fixation with a cage component appears to be a safe and effective treatment option for patients undergoing primary aTSA at a minimum of 5-year follow-up.

OBJECTIVES: COVID-19 altered National Football League (NFL) player and team training during the 2020 offseason. All preseason games were cancelled resulting in absence of game play before the first week of the regular season. Thus, concerns exist regarding injury susceptibility of players during regular season games. The purpose of this study was to evaluate and compare injury rates during the 2020 NFL season versus injury rates from the unaffected 2017-2019 seasons. We hypothesized there would be an increased injury rate and an increased rate of season ending injuries during the modified 2020 season. METHODS: The NFL's public injury database was queried to identify players placed on the injury lists throughout the 2017-2020 seasons. All players listed as "out" and on the injured reserve due to physical injury were included in the data set. For further stratification, injury incidence was separated based on position. Time missed due to COVID-19 illness was not included. Injury rates were expressed as injuries per 1000 athlete exposures (AE). RESULTS: Overall, 893 individual players missed games due to injury during the 2020 NFL regular season compared to an average of 743 over the 2017-2019 seasons. Defensive players at all positions had a statistically significant increase in injury incidence from an average of 7.54 to 10.20 injuries per 1000 AE. Defensive backs were most affected with a 46% increase in players injured. There was no statistically significant difference in season ending injuries for any position. CONCLUSIONS: The COVID-19 stricken 2020 NFL regular season saw an increased rate and incidence of injuries. Specifically, defensive players had a higher incidence of injury overall with defensive backs experiencing the greatest increase in injury rates.

CASE: A 13-year-old obese boy presented with an acute-on-chronic unstable left slipped capital femoral epiphysis (SCFE). He underwent in situ surgical fixation with two 6.5-mm fully threaded cannulated screws. At 6 months, he presented with mechanical failure of both screws. He underwent screw removal, revision in situ fixation, a peritrochanteric flexion and internal rotational osteotomy, and an open femoroplasty. The osteotomy healed at 6 weeks. The femoral physis took an additional year to close. CONCLUSION: This case highlights an uncommon complication of in situ pinning of SCFE, discusses revision fixation options, and suggests possible prolonged physeal closure in severe slips.

BACKGROUND: As a result of the high physical demand in sport, elite athletes are particularly prone to fifth metatarsal fractures. These injuries are typically managed surgically to avoid high rates of delayed union and allow for quicker return to play (RTP). PURPOSE: To review studies showing clinical and radiographic outcomes, RTP rates, and complication rates after different surgical treatment modalities for fifth metatarsal fractures exclusively in elite-level athletes. STUDY DESIGN: Systematic review; Level of evidence, 4. METHODS: A systematic search was conducted within the PubMed, Scopus, and Cochrane databases from January 2000 to January 2020. Inclusion criteria consisted of clinical outcome studies after operative management of fifth metatarsal fractures in elite athletes. Exclusion criteria consisted of nonoperative management, high school or recreational-level athletic participation, nonclinical studies, expert opinions, and case series with <5 patients. RESULTS: A total of 12 studies met inclusion and exclusion criteria, comprising 280 fifth metatarsal fractures treated surgically. Intramedullary screw fixation was the most common fixation construct (47.9%), and some form of intraoperative adjunctive treatment (calcaneal autograft, iliac crest bone graft, bone marrow aspirate concentrate, demineralized bone matrix) was used in 67% of cases. Radiographic union was achieved in 96.7% of fractures regardless of surgical construct used. The overall mean time to union was 9.19 weeks, with RTP at a mean of 11.15 weeks. The overall reported complication rate was 22.5%, with varying severity of complications. Refracture rates were comparable between the different surgical constructs used, and the overall refracture rate was 8.6%. CONCLUSION: Elite athletes appeared to have a high rate of union and reliably returned to the same level of competition after surgical management of fifth metatarsal fractures, irrespective of surgical construct used. Despite this, the overall complication rate was >20%. Specific recommendations for optimal surgical management could not be made based on the heterogeneity of the included studies.

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate institutional opioid prescribing patterns following percutaneous fixation of pediatric supracondylar humerus fractures before and after implementation of a standardized discharge order set. DESIGN: A retrospective review of patients who underwent closed reduction and percutaneous skeletal fixation of a Type II or III supracondylar humerus fracture in 2017 (prior to pain protocol implementation) and again in 2019 (after pain protocol implementation) SETTING: Single Tertiary Care Children's Hospital PARTICIPANTS: In total, 106 patients met inclusion criteria between years 2017 (n = 49) and 2019 (n = 57). Exclusion criteria included miscoded patients, open fractures, patients who presented with vascular injury or nerve palsy, polytrauma patients with multiple fractures in the same upper extremity, and supracondylar humerus fractures that underwent an open procedure. RESULTS: There were no significant differences between inpatient pain scores (p = 0.91) and MDE prescribed (p = 0.75) between the 2 cohorts. In 2017, large variability was noted in day supply of opioids (0-11.4 days) and MDE (0-8.45 mg/kg), with significant differences between prescribing patterns of junior and senior level residents (mean day supply of opioids (p = 0.045), mean MDE prescribed on discharge (p = 0.001)). After implementation of a standardized opioid discharge order set, there was a tenfold increase in the number of patients discharged without an opioid prescription (2017: 4%, 2019: 44%). Additionally, any discrepancies between prescribing practices of junior and senior level residents were eliminated (mean day supply of opioids (p = 0.65), mean MDE prescribed on discharge (p = 0.69)). CONCLUSIONS: The introduction of a standardized post-operative opioid discharge order set led to a 10-fold increase in the number of patients discharged without an opioid prescription. Additionally, the order set decreased the variability in the prescribing patterns of discharge opioid medications without change in pain control. The resident prescribing variability based upon level of experience resolved with the use of the order set.

PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to (1) report on the incidence of concurrent surgical pathology at the time of adolescent ACL reconstruction, (2) evaluate patient risk factors for concurrent pathology, and (3) measure the effect of BMI on operating room (OR) time. METHODS: A retrospective analysis of the NSQIP database for the years 2005-2017 was conducted. Nine-hundred and seventeen patients 18 years of age and younger who underwent ACL reconstruction (ACLR) were identified using CPT code 29888 and patients undergoing surgery for multi-ligamentous knee injuries were excluded. The mean patient age was 17.6 years (range 14-18, standard deviation 0.52) and consisted of 546 males (59.5%) and 371 females (40.5%). Logistic regression was used to assess the relationship between BMI and additional CPT codes for internal derangement at the time of surgery. Internal derangement was defined as any procedure for the treatment of a meniscal tear, chondral lesion, or loose body removal. Linear regression analysis was then performed to evaluate the effect of BMI on operative time. RESULTS: 43.7% of patients undergoing ACLR required an associated procedure for internal derangement. Additionally, the risk of requiring additional procedures for internal derangement increased by 3.1% per BMI point. BMI was also predictive of operative time, independent of the number of additional procedures. Specifically, the operative time increased by nearly one minute for every point increase in BMI (58.0 s). CONCLUSIONS: Adolescent patients with an elevated BMI were much more likely to require additional surgical procedures for internal derangement at the time of ACL reconstruction. Additionally, BMI was a significant predictor for longer operative times. LEVEL OF EVIDENCE: Level III.

PURPOSE: To use the Truven MarketScan database to (1) report the incidence of venous thromboembolism (VTE), including deep vein thromboses (DVTs) and pulmonary embolism (PE), in patients undergoing simple knee arthroscopy and anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction, and (2) evaluate combined oral contraceptive (COCP) use as a potential risk factor for VTE in patients undergoing knee arthroscopy. METHODS: All female patients between the ages of 16 and 40 years undergoing knee arthroscopy and ACL reconstruction between 2010 and 2015 were identified in the MarketScan database. Patients were stratified by whether they had a documented pharmaceutical claim for COCP therapy, and the primary outcome was the risk of DVT and or PE within 90 postoperative days. RESULTS: In total, 64,165 patients were identified for inclusion. While the overall incidence of VTE was low, patients taking COCPs had an increased risk of a DVT or PE compared with those not on COCPs (odds ratio [OR] 2.1, P < .001). When patients were analyzed by procedural subgroup (ACL reconstruction and simple knee arthroscopy), similar results held true. Furthermore, smoking and obesity had a synergistic effect when combined with COCPs use on the risk of VTE. Specifically, 3.1% of patients with obesity on COCPs (OR 3.1, P < .001) and 4.0% of smokers on COCPs (OR 4.3, P < .001) developed a postoperative VTE. CONCLUSIONS: This study demonstrates that COCP use is associated with an increased risk for a symptomatic DVT or PE (1.70% and 0.27%, respectively) after knee arthroscopy and an increased risk for DVT, but not PE (1.80% and 0.23%, respectively), after ACL reconstruction. In addition, patients with multiple risk factors present such as tobacco use, obesity, and COCP use had odds ratios greater than the sum of the individual risk factors alone. INTRODUCTION: The association between obesity and the need for open reduction and surgical fixation of the syndesmosis in the setting of malleolar ankle fractures remains to be elucidated. Therefore, the primary objective of this study was to assess the relationship between obesity, ankle fracture complexity, and the need for open reduction and fixation of the syndesmosis. METHODS: A retrospective analysis of the NSQIP database was performed for patients undergoing surgical fixation of isolated, closed ankle fractures. Patients were grouped by fracture pattern into 6 cohorts (uni-, bi- and trimalleolar ankle fractures with or without syndesmotic injury). Demographic data was collected and compared between groups and logistic regression analyses were used to assess the relationship between body mass index (BMI) and ankle fracture pattern. RESULTS: A total of 15,841 patients (mean age 48.9 years) were identified for inclusion. Regression analyses revealed that BMI had a significant association with the incidence of open reduction and internal fixation of the ankle syndesmosis, but there was no association between BMI and malleolar fracture pattern. CONCLUSIONS: This study demonstrates that elevated BMI is associated with an increased risk for open reduction and internal fixation of the syndesmosis in malleolar ankle fractures. However, obesity was not associated with ankle fracture pattern itself, whereas older age, female sex, and white race were more significant predictors of fracture complexity. This data provides a framework for further evaluation of the effect that both modifiable and non-modifiable risk factors have on fracture complexity and operative management of patients with such injuries. PURPOSE: To (1) determine the rate of surgical complications and venous thromboembolism (VTE) in patients undergoing arthroscopic Bankart repair, open Bankart repair, or Latarjet-Bristow; and (2) assess potential risk factors for surgical complications and VTE in patients undergoing shoulder stabilization procedures. METHODS: The NSQIP database was used to identify patients undergoing isolated surgery for shoulder instability from 2005 to 2017. Demographic data were collected and compared. Logistic regression was used to assess the risk factors for developing a postoperative complication, and regression analyses were used to evaluate the odds of postoperative complications between types of surgery. RESULTS: We identified 7,233 patients for inclusion. Patients undergoing Latarjet-Bristow were more likely to be male and Black and to report current tobacco use. Overall, there was a low rate of surgical complications (0.4%) and VTE (0.2%). However, patients undergoing Latarjet-Bristow had nearly a 10-fold increase in the risk of surgical complications compared with an arthroscopic or open Bankart repair (1.9% versus 0.2%, P < .001), including deep surgical site infections, return to operating room within 30 days, and symptomatic VTE (deep venous thrombosis rate: arthroscopic Bankart repair, 0.1%; Latarjet-Bristow, 0.8%; P < .001). There were no differences in the odds of developing a surgical complication or VTE between patients undergoing arthroscopic or open Bankart repair. CONCLUSION: This study used a nationally representative, widely validated, peer-reviewed database to demonstrate that patients undergoing a Latarjet-Bristow procedure are at significantly higher risk for short-term postoperative complications, including deep surgical site infections, return to the operating room, and symptomatic VTE, than those undergoing Bankart repair. These findings should not discourage surgeons from proceeding with a coracoid transfer procedure when indicated for glenoid deficiencies, but should inform preoperative counseling and help guide perioperative care to optimize patient outcomes. BACKGROUND: Previous evidence has demonstrated an exacerbating effect of increased operative time on short-term complications in total joint arthroplasty. While the same relationship may be expected for unicompartmental knee arthroplasty (UKA), supporting evidence remains sparse. The purpose of this study is to determine the impact of operative time on short-term complication rates after UKA and determine a critical threshold in operative times after which complications may increase. METHODS: The American College of Surgeons National Surgical Quality Improvement Project was queried from 2007 to 2018 to identify 11,633 UKA procedures that were included in the final analysis. The effect of operative time on complications within 30 days was evaluated using multivariate logistic regression models. Receiver operating characteristics curves and spline regression models were used to identify critical thresholds in operative time that increase the likelihood of short-term complications. RESULTS: Longer operative times (in minutes) were associated with higher rates of surgical site infection (90.4 ± 26.7 vs 84.8 ± 25.5, P = .003), blood transfusions (94.9 ± 28.6 vs 84.9 ± 25.5, P = .007), as well as reoperation rates (90.8 ± 27.9 vs 84.9 ± 25.5, P = .01), extended hospital length of stay (93.4 ± 29.8 vs 84.5 ± 25.2, P < .001), and mortality (110.4 ± 35.5 vs 84.9 ± 25.5, P = .008). Following multivariate logistic regression, operative time was found to independently predict increased surgical site infection, blood transfusion, myocardial infarction, extended length of stay, and mortality (odds ratio: 1.09 - 1.45, CI: 1.01 - 1.91, all P values <0.02). Receiver operating characteristics curves found an increase in mortality risk during the 30-day postoperative period after 88.5 minutes of operative time, a finding supported by spline regression plots. CONCLUSION: The present study found a positive correlation between increased operative times and short-term postoperative complication rates after UKA. Despite a statistically significant association with increasing operative time, odds ratios of reported complications are relatively low.

Due to the infrequent occurrence of latissimus dorsi insertional avulsions or tendon ruptures, there is no clear evidence on the optimal surgical fixation strategy. A three suture unicortical button repair technique through a single incision offers an anatomic reconstruction of the broad insertional footprint with adequate exposure. This fixation strategy is the preferred technique by the senior author.

CASE: A 69-year-old woman with a history of breast cancer, on long-term antiresorptive medications, was treated with carbon fiber cephalomedullary nails for bilateral atypical femur fractures. Her thigh pain was presumed to be from metastatic lesions and was treated with radiation without standard imaging. The index procedure was complicated by a left nail fracture. The patient underwent exchange cephalomedullary nail fixation with plate augmentation. At 1 year, the patient was asymptomatic with radiographs demonstrating healing. CONCLUSION: This case highlights the importance of appropriate imaging in all patients with thigh pain on antiresorptive therapy and features an uncommon complication of carbon fiber cephalomedullary nail fixation.

INTRODUCTION: Obesity continues to be a problem in the United States with greater than 35% of the adult population affected. Obesity influences fracture care as it affects impact forces, alters cellular pathways of healing, and is often associated with higher complication rates. Distal radius fractures are among the most common fracture patterns in the adult population. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of BMI on the degree of intra-articular fracture comminution, operative time, and return to the OR in obese patients who underwent operation for distal radius fractures. METHODS: A retrospective analysis of the American College of Surgeons National Surgical Improvement Program's (ACS-NSQIP) database was performed and logistic regressions were used to assess the relationship between BMI and open treatment of distal radius fractures. Three separate CPT codes were used to distinguish between extra-articular fractures, intra-articular split fracture, and intra-articular fracture with comminution. Percutaneous or closed treatment of distal radius fractures were excluded. RESULTS: A total of 11,228 patients (mean age 65.1 years) with open reduction and internal fixation of distal radius fractures were identified. For every increase in BMI point, there was an increased risk of intra-articular split fracture by 1.7% (OR 1.017, 95% CI 1.010-1.023, p < 0.01) and increased risk of intra-articular comminution by 3.1% (OR 3.1, 95% CI 1.025-1.037, p < 0.01). Additionally, for every increase in BMI point, the risk of a surgical complication increased by 2.3% DISCUSSION: This nationally representative, population-based study demonstrates that elevated BMI is associated with increased risk for intra-articular involvement and higher risk for post-operative complications. Our results can be useful to patients and orthopedic surgeons as prognostic information for counseling patients on expectations following open reduction and surgical fixation of distal radius fractures. BACKGROUND: The volume of unicompartmental knee arthroplasty (UKA) has increased dramatically in recent years with good reported long-term outcomes. UKA can be performed under general or neuraxial (ie, spinal) anesthesia; however, little is known as to whether there is a difference in outcomes based on anesthesia type. The purpose of the present study is to compare perioperative outcomes between anesthesia types for patients undergoing primary elective UKA. METHODS: Patients who underwent primary elective UKA from 2007 to 2017 were identified from the American College of Surgeons-National Surgical Quality Improvement Program Database. Operating room times, length of stay (LOS), 30-day adverse events, and readmission rates were compared between patients who received general anesthesia and those who received spinal anesthesia. Propensity-adjusted multivariate analysis was used to control for selection bias and baseline patient characteristics. RESULTS: A total of 8639 patients underwent UKA and met the inclusion criteria for this study. Of these, 4728 patients (54.7%) received general anesthesia and 3911 patients (45.3%) received spinal anesthesia. On propensity-adjusted multivariate analyses, general anesthesia was associated with increased operative time (P < .001) and the occurrence of any severe adverse event (odds ratio [OR], 1.39; 95% confidence interval [95% CI], 1.04-1.84; P = .024). In addition, general anesthesia was associated with higher rates of deep venous thrombosis (OR, 2.26; 95% CI, 1.11-4.6; P = .024) and superficial surgical site infection (OR, 1.04; 95% CI, 0.6-1.81; P < .001). Finally, general anesthesia was also associated with a reduced likelihood of discharge to home (OR, 0.72; 95% CI, 0.59-0.88; P < .001). No difference existed in postoperative hospital LOS or readmission rates among cohorts. CONCLUSION: General anesthesia was associated with an increased rate of adverse events and increased operating room times as well as a reduced likelihood of discharge to home. There was no difference in hospital LOS or postoperative readmission rates between anesthesia types.

INTRODUCTION: Overuse injury in youth overhead athletes remains a concern. The introduction of pitch count guidelines was designed to limit the number of pitches per game. South Carolina is considered a warm weather climate which has been proven to expose overhead athletes to higher risk for injury. The purpose of this study was to detect baseline rates of arm pain and sequelae (injury, surgery, impact on participation) among southern youth baseball/softball players to better counsel players, parents, coaches and league administration on the prevention of arm injury. METHODS: A survey was distributed to 14 pediatric practices within the South Carolina Pediatric Practice Research Network. The 2-page survey included 28 closed-ended and descriptive questions that investigated physical and psychosocial responses during and after play. Additional questions were conducted on adherence and understanding of USA Baseball guidelines and pitch counting behavior. RESULTS: Two hundred and seventy three surveys were completed by parents of baseball/softball players. The players' average age was 11.6 years, who played on an average of 1.78 teams/leagues for 5.2 months each year. Only 26% of baseball players answered "Sometimes", "Often" or "Always" to their arm hurting. Arm fatigue, older age, parent/coach frustration with play, and months played were statistically significantly associated with arm pain. The survey revealed 58.9% of families were familiar with pitch count guidelines. DISCUSSION: Arm pain is relatively prevalent among the South Carolina youth baseball community and worse in older players and experience fatigue. This survey found lower percentage of youth overhead athletes experiencing arm discomfort when compared to prior studies. It is important for warm weather climate athletes to abide by guidelines, as they are more susceptible to arm injury. Increased recognition, education and compliance with pitch count guidelines will help protect these youth athletes from overuse injury. LEVEL OF EVIDENCE: IV, Descriptive Epidemiology Study.
