RESUMEN

Introduction to the diet of adult (7-8 months) and old (24-26 months) male rats for 30 days after a single R-irradiation at a dose of 5 Gy of preparation "Korargin" (whose active ingredients are L-arginine, contributing to the prevention of endothelial dysfunction, and inosine) in old irradiated rats significantly increased the relaxation of isolated segments of thoracic aorta by the action of acetylcholine, sodium nitroprusside and insulin. In adults irradiated animals this effect was not observed. Vasoconstriction response of isolated segments of thoracic aorta to norepinephrine was decreased in isolated segments of thoracic aorta by adults and old irradiated rats compared with controls, and application of korargin had no significant effect. Thus, in old irradiated rats, in contrast to adult irradiated animals, the use of korargin increased of vascular sensitiveness to act of endothelial-dependent and endothelial-nondependent vazodilatators, helped to preserve of endothelial function and increase the capacity of vazodilatator potential.

RESUMEN

Introduction to the diet of adult and old rats for 30 days after R-irradiation at a dose of 5 Gy drug "Korargin" prevented the development of some manifestations of radioinduced metabolic syndrome (MS) in animals of both age groups: in adult irradiated animals--a tendency to decrease insulin levels in blood plasma, increase of cholesterol levels in liver tissue, significantly increased serum high density lipoprotein as compared both to controls and irradiated animals, prevented the decrease in the levels of anions NO2- and NO3- in tissue of the aorta and anions NO2- in tissue of the heart; in old irradiated animals--prevented tended to increase of body weight, the increase in insulinresistance (index HOMA), the decrease in the level of anions NO2- in the aorta tissue, increased levels of anions NO2- and NO3- in the heart tissue compared to controls. Prevention through drug "Korargin" some manifestations of radioinduced MS in adult and old animals, indicates the prospects of exploring the possibility of correction of the violations of carbohydrate and lipid metabolism caused by exposure to ionizing radiation, in individuals of both age groups.

RESUMEN

An analysis was performed of the conception and content of a new Psychiatric Care Act by making a comparison with data from published literature and the present-day status of the mental health protection service. The main features of the crisis of psychiatry in Ukraine are characterized together with possible ways of resolving it. Main trends in reformation of the psychiatric service are identified that are to be secured by relevant acts of departmental and interdepartmental character based on law. Priority is emphasized to defence of the patients' rights and liberties together with a need for a guarantee of a highly skilled medical care to be provided for mental patients.

RESUMEN

Effects, both specific and non-specific, were analysed of ionizing radiation in a comparative evaluation of medical sequels of the Chernobyl disaster and of the Semipalatinsk Range nuclear test. A hypothesis is advanced assuming that development of all major bodily morbid conditions is directly related to the dysfunction of certain complex of organs, the thyroid gland in the first place, the thymus gland known to be a central organ of systemic immunogenesis. A breach in the thymus link triggers harmful cascade reactions of neuroimmunoendocrinological regulation, appeared to be responsible for the pathogenesis of practically all pathologies disclosed.

RESUMEN

Effect of insulin on Na, K-ATPase activity and phospholipid (PL) composition of myocardiocytes' plasma membrane (PM) was investigated in adult (6 months old) and old (28 months old) male Wistar rats. Administration of insulin increases Na, K-ATPase activity and phosphatidilethanolamin content, and decreases phosphatidilinositol content of myocardiocytes' PM in adult animals. Administration of insulin doesn't change Na, K-ATPase activity and decreases phosphatidilethanolamin content of myocardiocytes' PM in old rats. In the experiments with cellular hybrids (cytosol + PM) it was found that cytosol of adult insulin-treated animals caused the activation of Na, K-ATPase in both adult and old rats. Cytosol of old animals did not influence enzyme activity either in old or adult animals. Actinomycin D inhibited a stimulating insulin effect on Na, K-ATPase activity. The obtained data may suggest the presence of insulin-induced synthesis of intracellular factors responsible for resultion of the state of PM invertors.

RESUMEN

In vitro effect of alpha-adrenomimetic naphtizin (0.1 mM X 1(-1) and beta-adrenomimetic isoproterenol (10 mcM X 1(-1) on the basal and ACTH-stimulated (10 U X 1(-1) production of II-oxoketosteroids (II-OKS) by isolated adrenals (IA) was studied in adult (6 mo) and old (28 mo) male rats. Naphtizin increased ACTH-stimulated secretion of II-OKS by IA of adult rats, but had no effect on the above secretion of old rats. Isoproterenol enhanced basal secretion of II-OKS by adult IA. No such effect on IA was found in old rats. There was no additive effect of isoproterenol on ACTH-stimulated II-OKS secretion by IA in both age groups.

RESUMEN

The effect of chronic administration of antioxidant dibunol (BHT) on the blood level of thyrotropin, corticotropin, thyroxin, triiodothyronine, 11-hydroxycorticosteroids, immunoreactive insulin and the reactivity of isolated thyroids and adrenals to tropic hormones were studied in adult and old male rats. Chronic administration of BHT was found to inhibit the thyroid functional activity of both animal groups and to reduce the blood insulin level in the old rats. The results obtained suggest that hormonal effects play an essential role in the mechanism of BHT action on the organism.

RESUMEN

Ca2+ channel blocker verapamil (0.2 mM) and K+ channel blocker 2-aminopyridine (1.0 mM; 5.0 mM and 10.0 mM) have been studied for their effect on ACTH-stimulated steroidogenesis in isolated adrenal glands (IAG) of the adult (6-7 months) and old (26-28 months) male rats. The administration of verapamil produced a similar, about 2-fold decrease in ACTH-stimulated secretion of 11-OCS in the IAG of both animal groups. 2-aminopyridine, administered in several concentrations, produced no effect whatsoever on ACTH-stimulated secretion of 11-OCS in the IAG of the old rats. However, when administered in concentrations of 5.0 mM and 10.0 mM this agent decreased significantly the ACTH-stimulated steroidogenesis in the IAG of the adult animals. It has been suggested that plasma membrane permeability of z. fasciculata adrenocorticocytes to K+ ions decreases with age.

RESUMEN

The age changes of neural control over the function of the thyroid, adrenal cortex and testicles were examined in adult (6 months) and old (28 months) male rats. In old age, there was a weakening of adrenergic control of thyroidogenesis, alpha-adrenergic and M-cholinergic control of glucocorticoid function of the adrenal cortex and reduction of adrenergic and M-cholinergic influences in the regulation of steroidogenic function of the testicles.

RESUMEN

The effect of alpha-adrenoblocker dibenamine and beta-adrenoblocker propranolol on the blood level of thyroid hormones (TH) and TH production by isolated thyroids (T) was investigated in adult and old male rats. Isolated T were incubated for 4 h in medium 199 with or without TSH (100 mU/ml). TH blood concentration and specific TH production by isolated T was decreased with age. TSH stimulated thyroid hormone production in isolated T only in adult rats. Alpha- or beta-adrenoblockers administration resulted in a decrease in the TH blood concentration, basal and TSH-stimulated thyroid hormone production in adult rats. The results obtained suggested that aging was accompanied by decreased adrenergic control of thyroid function.

RESUMEN

Age-dependent changes in the polarization of the plasma membranes (PM) of various cell types and the mechanisms responsible for its regulation were studied in the experiments on the adult (6-8 months) and old (28-32 months) Wistar male rats. The relationship was found between the specificity of cellular function and the pattern of changes in resting potential (RP) and action potential (AP). In senility, changes occur in the ratio of different pathways of energy provision of the ionic transport: the contribution made by enzymic reactions to the mechanism of maintenance of the PM polarization level is diminished. Changes in the PM phospholipid composition influences considerably the character of the PM electric reactions in aging. An anti-oxidant, dibunol (butilated hydroxytoluene, BHT) has appeared to restore many reactions of the cellular PM in the old animals.

RESUMEN

Age-dependent changes in the polarization of plasma membranes (PM) of various cell types and the mechanisms responsible for its regulation were studied in the experiments on the adult (6-8 and old (28-32 months) Wistar male rats. It was found that the effect of the hormones on the PM polarization level is altered during aging. This being related to shifts in the number and affinity of the hormonal receptors, energetic processes and protein synthesis in the cell.
