[Features of detection and interpretation of intravital and postmortem changes according to the results of traditional X-ray and X-ray computed tomography of objects from historical graves and artefacts]. / Osobennosti vyyavleniya i interpretatsii prizhiznennykh i posmertnykh izmenenii po rezul'tatam traditsionnoi rentgenografii i rentgenovskoi komp'yuternoi tomografii ob"ektov iz istoricheskikh zakhoronenii i artefaktov.

OBJECTIVE: To study emergence mechanism, physical nature, pattern of intravital and postmortem changes of biological and non-biological objects originated in the period from 1550 to 1918 yr. using traditional X-ray and X-ray computed tomography. MATERIAL AND METHODS: The relics of Saint Macarius the Roman of Novgorod, the remains of the First Reverend of the Resurrection Novodevichy Convent in Saint Petersburg Mother Superior Theophania, damages on the chair leg on which Tsesarevich Alexey sat during the shooting of Russian Emperor Nicholas II, his family and entourage in 1918 in Yekaterinburg were stidued. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION: The application of highly informative methods of traditional X-ray and X-ray computed tomography of biological and non-biological objects showed their high informativity and allowed to correctly interpret the emergence mechanism, physical nature, pattern of intravital and postmortem changes of skeleton bones and historical artefact (chair legs) originated long ago. The necessity of special professional training and advanced training of experts in forensic radiology to prevent possible diagnostic and expert errors has been substantiated.

[Fatal radiation-induced injury resulting from the deliberate use of ionizing radiation source for illegal purposes]. / Smertel'naya radiatsionnaya travma vsledstvie umyshlennogo primeneniya istochnika ioniziruyushchego izlucheniya v protivopravnykh tselyakh.

A rare clinical observation of death from prolonged uneven external irradiation due to the deliberate use of an ionizing radiation source for illegal purposes has been presented. The main difficulties of postmortem diagnosis of this type of radiation-induced injury, considering the features of histological examinations and special methods of retrospective dosimetric evaluations, have been identified.

[Gastric cancer concurrent with IgG4-related disease: A clinical case and a review of literature]. / Sochetanie raka zheludka s IgG4-svyazannoi bolezn'yu (klinicheskoe nablyudenie i obzor literatury).

The paper presents the data available in the literature on IgG4-related disease (IgG4-RD) concurrent with malignancies at different sites, as well as possible common pathogenetic mechanisms of their development and morphological diagnostic criteria for IgG4-RD. The authors give their own observation of gastric signet ring cell carcinoma concurrent with morphologically verified IgG4-RD.

[Fatal and nonfatal cardiovascular complications in patients with essential hypertension (hypertensive disease) during follow-up for many years]. / Fatal'nye i nefatal'nye serdechno-sosudistye oslozhneniia u bol'nykh gipertonicheskoi bolezn'iu pri mnogoletnem nabliudenii.

Fatal and nonfatal complications (stroke, myocardial infarction, chronic heart failure, sudden coronary death, chronic renal insufficiency) were registered during long term follow-up of 529 patients with hypertensive disease and results were analyzed retrospectively. Duration of ambulatory treatment in two thirds of patients exceeded 15 years. There were 243 deaths in 1993-1999. Mean age of those who died was 75 years. Main fatal complications were strokes and myocardial infarctions. Their rates were similar. Strokes comprised one third of all deaths irrespective of age. There were no significant differences between rates of ischemic and hemorrhagic strokes. Among causes of death proportion of sudden death was the highest in patients younger than 60 years while that of chronic heart failure rose with age. There were no cases of chronic renal failure. Atherosclerotic lesions in coronary and cerebral vessels were found at autopsies irrespective of cause of death.
