RESUMEN

Peroxymonosulfate (PMS) based on heterogeneous catalytic reaction was a promising advanced oxidation process (AOP) to remove refractory contaminants. However, the contaminant degradation efficiency was challenged by the limited number of catalytic active site and low capacity for durable electron transfer. In this study, cobalt-doped manganese-iron oxides (CoxMn1-xFe2O4) rich in oxygen vacancy (Ov) were synthesized using a microwaved hydrothermal method and applied to activate PMS for bisphenol A (BPA) degradation, which achieved the complete removal of BPA within 30 min. In all samples, Co0.5Mn0.5Fe2O4 exhibited good catalytic activity for PMS, which was approximately 21.10 times higher than that of MnFe2O4. The results of density functional theory calculations and in-situ characterization demonstrated that the enhanced performance was ascribed to the generation of Ov and the enrichment of active site, which significantly accelerated the cycling of redox pairs and improved the PMS adsorption, which was more favorable to the formation of active specie in the electron transport process. The oxidation process involved both free radical and non-radical mechanisms, with main reactive species of O2-, and 1O2 being responsible for BPA degradation. In addition, the effects of different aqueous matrices, the results of reusability experiments, and ecotoxicity assessment experiments demonstrated the viability of the Co0.5Mn0.5Fe2O4/PMS system for real sewage purification. This research revealed a structural regulation method to enhance the catalytic activity of the material and offered new perspectives on the engineering of rich Ov.

PURPOSE: Ultrasound-guided percutaneous renal biopsy (PRB) has been considered as a golden standard for CKD diagnosis and is employed to identify potential therapeutic targets since 1950s. Post-biopsy hemorrhage is the most common complication, while severe bleeding complication might cause nephrectomy or death. Therefore, how to reduce the occurrence of complications while ensuring the success of PRB is always a clinical research topic. METHODS: This study retrospectively collected and established a renal biopsy database of each patient who underwent ultrasound-guided PRB at a tertiary teaching hospital from September 2017 to December 2020 through the Health Information System. All the data were statistically processed by SPSS software. RESULTS: A total of 1146 patients underwent PRB for various reasons. The overall rate of post-biopsy hemorrhage was 37.70% (432/1146). Of those bleedings, minor bleeding after PRB was found in 337 (29.41%), middle bleeding 84 (7.33%), major bleeding 11 (0.96%). Besides that, there were 96 patients (8.38%) reported their discomfort symptoms. There was no death. Females were at significantly increased risk of hemorrhagic complication than males (OR = 2.017, CI = 1.531-2.658). While the risk for hemorrhagic complication significantly decreased as BMI and platelet before renal biopsy increased (OR = 0.956, CI = 0.924-0.989; OR = 0.998, CI = 0.996-1.000). As the APTT time prolonged, the risk for hemorrhagic complication significantly increased (OR = 1.072, CI = 1.023-1.123). Those patients whose albumin were higher, also had higher risk for hemorrhagic complication than other patients (OR = 1.020, CI = 1.000-1.041). Specifically, postoperative urination within 4 h increased the risk for hemorrhagic complication (OR = 1.741, CI = 1.176-2.576). CONCLUSION: Our analysis finds that the incidence of post-biopsy bleeding complication is 37.70%, and its risk is associated with female, lower BMI, lower platelet before renal biopsy, prolonged APTT, higher albumin, and postoperative urination within 4 h. The findings highlighted the importance of perioperative management for renal biopsy, including adequate risk assessment, tailored careful observation after PRB. And medical staff should pay more attention to fluid management after ultrasound-guided PRB.

PURPOSE: To investigate whether BP is related to postbiopsy bleeding in patients undergoing native percutaneous kidney biopsy (PKB) and to evaluate the dynamic changes in blood pressure (BP) pre- and post-kidney biopsy. METHODS: A retrospective cross-sectional study was conducted. The whole-procedural systolic (SBP) and diastolic (DBP) BP for patients undergoing ultrasound-guided native PKB from October 2017 to December 2020 were recorded in the study. Propensity score matching was used to minimize selection bias. SBP and DBP were analyzed as the main risk factors for bleeding complications. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves were employed to explore the optimal BP thresholds to differentiate between bleeding and nonbleeding. The rates of major bleeding complications were analyzed according to BP thresholds through logistic analysis. RESULTS: Of 1146 biopsies, 432 (37.7%) patients suffered from postbiopsy bleeding, 88 (7.7%) patients had major bleeding complications, and 344 (30.0%) patients had minor bleeding complications. In the original data, for patients with SBP ≥ 160 mmHg before PKB, the rate of major bleeding complications was 17.6% (7.5% for SBP < 160 mmHg), and the rate of major bleeding complications was 19.0% in patients with DBP ≥ 100 mmHg (7.5% for DBP < 100 mmHg). For patients with DBP ≥ 85 mmHg to 100 mmHg after PKB, the rate of major bleeding complications ranged from 9.5 to 17.5%. The rate of major bleeding complications was lower (6.6-7.3%) in patients with DBP < 100 mmHg to 85 mmHg. CONCLUSION: Patients who have high-level BP during the native PKB perioperative period are at higher risk for postbiopsy bleeding. High-level BP here does not refer to traditional hypertension according to the guidelines for the diagnosis and treatment of hypertension, but rather BP above a certain threshold related to bleeding risk.

Stroke is associated with a high rate of disability and mortality, and survivors are usually accompanied with dysphagia, aphasia, motor dysfunction, cognitive impairment, depression, and other complications. In the past decades, many studies have been conducted to reveal the pathogenesis and pathological mechanisms of stroke. Furthermore, treatment methods have been developed that contribute to the elevated survival rate of stroke patients. Early rehabilitation poststroke is starting to be recognized as important and has been receiving increasing attention in order to further improve the quality of life of the patients. As an emerging method of poststroke rehabilitation, music therapy can help attenuate dysphagia and aphasia, improve cognition and motor function, alleviate negative moods, and accelerate neurological recovery in stroke patients. This review helps summarize the recent progress that has been made using music therapy in stroke rehabilitation and is aimed at providing clinical evidence for the treatment of stroke patients.

Subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) is a common cerebrovascular disease with high mortality and disability rates. Despite progressive advances in drugs and surgical techniques, neurological dysfunction in surviving SAH patients have not improved significantly. Traditionally, vasospasm has been considered the main cause of death and disability following SAH, but anti-vasospasm therapy has not benefited clinical prognosis. Many studies have proposed that early brain injury (EBI) may be the primary factor influencing the prognosis of SAH. Melatonin is an indole hormone and is the main hormone secreted by the pineal gland, with low daytime secretion levels and high nighttime secretion levels. Melatonin produces a wide range of biological effects through the neuroimmune endocrine network, and participates in various physiological activities in the central nervous system, reproductive system, immune system, and digestive system. Numerous studies have reported that melatonin has extensive physiological and pharmacological effects such as anti-oxidative stress, anti-inflammation, maintaining circadian rhythm, and regulating cellular and humoral immunity. In recent years, more and more studies have been conducted to explore the molecular mechanism underlying melatonin-induced neuroprotection. The studies suggest beneficial effects in the recovery of intracerebral hemorrhage, cerebral ischemia-reperfusion injury, spinal cord injury, Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease and meningitis through anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and anti-apoptotic mechanisms. This review summarizes the recent studies on the application and mechanism of melatonin in SAH.

Medulloblastoma (MB) is the most common malignant brain tumors among children. MiR-30b-5p is a potential tumor suppressor in a variety of human cancers. However, its expression and function in MB remain poorly understood. This study aimed to investigate the expression, role and regulatory mechanism of miR-30b-5p in MB. The expression of miR-30b-5p in MB tissues and cell lines was detected by real-time PCR. The effects of miR-30b-5p on cell proliferation and apoptosis were monitored by CCK-8 (Cell Counting Kit-8) assay, colony formation assay and flow cytometry, respectively. Bioinformatics database TargetScan predicted the target genes of miR-30b-5p. The interaction between miR-30b-5p and MYB proto-oncogene Like 2 (MYBL2) was determined by luciferase reporter gene assay. We demonstrated that the expression of miR-30b-5p was significantly downregulated in MB. Upregulated miR-30b-5p could inhibit the proliferation and induce apoptosis of MB.Moreover, overexpressed miR-30b-5p could increase the expression of BAX but decrease that of Bcl-2. Downregulated miR-30b-5p exerted the opposite effect. MYBL2 was proved to be the target gene of miR-30b-5p and was negatively regulated by miR-30b-5p. These results indicate that miR-30b-5p inhibits the progression of MB via targeting the expression of MYBL2.
