RESUMEN

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: The acute vertebrobasilar occlusion associated with the poor prognosis, particularly tandem occlusion. However, few data on the efficacy of the endovascular therapy was indicated in this occlusion. We investigated whether the additional rescue extracranial vertebral stenting improved clinical outcome by modified Rankin scale (mRS) score within 3 months after the procedure. METHODS: This was a retrospective analysis of patients with acute posterior tandem occlusion who were treated with rescue extracranial vertebral stenting between December 2020 and January 2024 at our hospital. Clinical, neuroimaging, procedural, and complication data were collected. Primary outcomes included the rate of good outcomes (mRS ≤ 2) at 3-month follow-up. RESULTS: Nine patients who underwent rescue extracranial vertebral stenting in posterior circulation tandem occlusions were enrolled in the study. All patients were achieved the successful recanalization (mTICI ≥ 2b). Of Dotter technique in the "distal-to-proximal" approach, Diagnostic-Dotter made up 66.7%. Five patients (55.6%) with good outcome (mRS ≤ 2) at 3 months, and 1 patient (11.1%) underwent suboccipital decompressive craniectomy due to the malignant cerebellar infarction. CONCLUSION: Our study suggests that despite the small series with posterior tandem occlusions, the rescue extracranial vertebral stenting could be an important alternative treatment followed by mechanical thrombectomy.

RESUMEN

In this study, a simple green synthesis of vanadium pentoxide nanoparticles (VNPs) was prepared by the extract of Kaffir lime fruit (Citrus hystrix) as a green reducing and stabilizing agent, along with the investigation of calcination temperature was carried out at 450 and 550 °C. It was affirmed that, at higher temperature (550 °C), the VNPs possessed a high degree crystalline following the construction of (001) lattice diffraction within an increase in crystalline size from 47.12 to 53.51 nm, although the band gap of the materials at 450 °C was lower than that of the VNPs-550 (2.53 versus 2.66 eV, respectively). Besides, the materials were assessed for the potential bioactivities toward antibacterial, antifungal, DNA cleavage, anti-inflammatory, and hemolytic performances. As a result, the antibacterial activity, with minimal inhalation concentration (MIC) < 6.25 µg/mL for both strains, and fungicidal one of the materials depicted the dose-dependent effects. Once, both VNPs exhibited the noticeable efficacy of the DNA microbial damage, meanwhile, the outstanding anti-inflammatory agent was involved with the IC50 of 123.636 and 227.706 µg/mL, accounting for VNPs-450 and VNPs-550, respectively. Furthermore, this study also demonstrated the hemolytic potential of the VNPs materials. These consequences declare the prospects of the VNPs as the smart and alternative material from the green procedure in biomedicine.

RESUMEN

Repeated column chromatography resulted in the isolation of two new megastigmane derivatives, methyl-tiliaceates A and B (1 and 2), along with four known metabolites (3-6) from the leaves of Hibiscus tiliaceus L. The structures of the purified phytochemicals were elucidated by interpreting their NMR, HRESIMS, and CD spectroscopic data, as well as comparison with the previous literature. The compounds isolated were subjected to in vitro antimicrobial assays against a panel of pathogenic microorganisms (Enterococcus faecalis, Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus cereus, Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Salmonella enterica, and Candida albicans). Compound 1 showed obvious selective inhibition against the B. cereus strain, whereas 3 - 5 showed weak inhibitory activities against E. faecalis and S. aureus bacterial, and C. albicans fungal strains (with MIC values ranging from 128 to 256 µg/mL).

RESUMEN

In the present study, 14 phenolic glycosides, including one new neolignan glycoside, iodescirrhoside A (1), three new flavonol glycosides, iodescirrhosides B-D (2-4), and 10 known metabolites were obtained from the methanol extract of Iodes cirrhosa leaves. Structural elucidation was performed by interpretating the 1D- and 2D- NMR, HR-ESI-MS, and CD spectra in comparison with literature data. All compounds were noncytotoxic to LU-1, HepG2, MCF-7, SK-Mel-2, and LNCaP cancer cell lines. Compound 11 significantly inhibited the growth of E. faecalis. In contrast, weak inhibition was observed for 1-9 and 14 against E. faecalis, for 1, 6-8, and 11 against S. aureus, for 6 and 13 against B. cereus, and 2, 4, and 6-9 against C. albicans.

RESUMEN

In this study, the effect of graphene nanoplatelet (GNP) size on the microstructure and hardness of the electrodeposited nickel-graphene nanocomposite coatings were investigated. GNPs with different sizes were prepared by using a high energy ball milling technique. The experimental result revealed the high energy ball milling technique could reduce the size, increase the surface area, and improve the dispersion ability of GNPs. The microstructure, hardness, and components of the nanocomposite coatings were greatly affected by GNP sizes. The highest microhardness was measured to be 273 HV for the nanocomposite coatings containing 5 h-milled GNPs, which is increased up to ∼47% compared to pristine Ni coating. The enhancement in the hardness is attributed to the uniform dispersion of the small GNP sizes inside the Ni matrix and the Ni grain size reduction when using milled GNPs.

RESUMEN

Eight compounds were isolated from the leaves of Clerodendrum inerme, including one new rearranged abietane diterpene, crolerodendrum B (1). Their structures were determined by means of spectroscopic methods including one-dimensional and two-dimensional nuclear magnetic resonance (1-D and 2-DNMR), high-resolution electrospray ionisation mass spectrometry (HR-ESI-MS) and circular dichroism (CD). The DPPH radical scavenging and cytotoxic activities of isolated compounds against MCF7 (breast), HCT116 (colon) and B16F10 (melanoma) cancer cell lines were evaluated. Compounds 1, 3 and 4 exhibited strong DPPH radical-scavenging effects (ED50 values of 17.6 ± 2.1, 10.1 ± 0.8 and 11.3 ± 0.3 µM, respectively) and 4 showed strong cytotoxicity against the HCT116 cell line (IC50 = 3.46 ± 0.01 µM).
